A LOST OPPORTUNITY FOR A BETTER FLICK...!
17 September 2024
A 2023 frustrating actioner from South Korea. A boxer in the Philippines, Kang Tae-joo, whose mother needs funds for a lifesaving procedure suddenly hears from his Korean father to come home on the promise of getting the funds he needs. No sooner does his father's handlers come to collect him, another player, Kim Seon-ho, shows up on the flight home letting Tae-joo know things are going to get interesting for him very soon (as evidenced by the opening salvo where a passel of men are killed by Seon-ho who had him tied up!). Upon arriving, Tae-joo's circumstances are soon clarified as his father actually wants him for a transplant (he's on his deathbed) while his biological brother wants him dead & his sister, who hires a snappily dressed assassin, Go Ara, all convene on his location as he takes to the streets to save himself. Poor Tae-joo shows he can handle himself in an early fight which he wins & holds his own against some alley toughs but as soon as the mayhem ensues back home, he's all reaction & nothing else leaving the overly emoting thugs, especially Ara & Seon-ho, stealing whatever thunder Tae-joo had & the film suffers all the more for it.
