(This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 2, Episodes 1-2, 3-4, 5, 6, and 7.)
Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) new dragonriders, Ulf (Tom Bennett), Hugh (Kieran Bew) and Addam (Clinton Liberty) adjust to life in Dragonstone. House Lannister knight Ser Tyland (Jefferson Hall) treats with pirates. Rhaena (Phoebe Campbell) continues her search for a wild dragon in the Vale of Arryn. Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), shook by the discovery of Rhaenyra’s fresh dragon army, tries to even the playing field. Daemon’s (Matt Smith) allegiances are decided. Alicent (Olivia Cooke) makes a choice for her family’s future.
According to showrunner Ryan Condal, “The final episode is such a great build for everywhere we’ve been in Season 2 and promising what’s to come.” Audiences are pushing back on that after the highly anticipated finale didn’t deliver on the action-based climax we were expecting.

(This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 2 up to Episode 6.)
As House of the Dragon builds to its Season 2 finale, Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) takes a big risk. After claiming a dragon at the end of Episode 6, Lord Corlys’s illegitimate son, Addam of Hull, is on a new career path. Daemon’s (Matt Smith) fraught dealings with the Riverlords lead to a high-stakes exchange. Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) remains incapacitated, and Alicent (Olivia Cooke), stripped of her power, leaves King’s Landing to gain some perspective.
Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull isn’t the only one who hops from a side story to the main plot. Episode 7 contextualizes some characters we’ve followed on and off throughout the season. For those of us who have eagerly awaited some more dragon action since the last few minutes of Episode 4, this episode is both satisfying and promising.

“House of the Dragon” hit a Season 2 high in viewership with Sunday’s finale, which drew 8.9 million multiplatform viewers across HBO and Max, per Warner Bros. Discovery.
That’s up 14% from the Season 2 premiere night, which garnered 7.8 million viewers. However, it is down from the audience size for the first season finale of “House of the Dragon” in 2022.
After premiering with 10 million viewers in June 2022, “House of the Dragon” Season 1 hit its peak with Episode 2, reaching 10.2 million. Exact data was not made available for Episodes 3-9, but Episode 10 closed the season with 9.3 million viewers.
Warner Bros. Discovery attributed the season opener declines to a drop in linear viewing, as fewer viewers now watch on HBO’s cable channel. But on the flip side, the conglom reports that Sunday’s “House of the Dragon” finale has now led to the biggest streaming day ever for Max, both in the U.S.

This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2 episode 8 and details from Fire & Blood that could spoil House of the Dragon season 3.
Did you find yourself a little disappointed with the House of the Dragon season 2 finale? You weren’t alone on that front.
Season two’s final episode appeared to stop just short of some real action. While Daemon resolved his family issues and Rhaenyra and Alicent resolved…whatever it is they have going on, the Dance of the Dragons civil war appeared to be stuck in a holding pattern on House of the Dragon.
Still, the final five minutes of the season 2 finale do act as a sort of sizzle reel for the action to come in season 3 as we see several armies and navies advance across the Westerosi landscape to parts unknown. With that in mind, let’s take stock of all the various factions on the board,...

The first season of "House of the Dragon" teased the bond between dragon and rider as something special that can also threaten Westeros with the medieval equivalent of nuclear warfare, but it's season 2 that's really made this a central element of the show. The current season has truly sold the idea that dragons are scary god-level weapons that are also giant curious cats who like to play around.
The rules and lore of dragon and human bonding have always been kind of vague in the "Game of Thrones" universe. The book that "House of the Dragon" is based on, "Fire & Blood," is presented as having been written by maesters who don't have the full story, leaving plenty of room for its adaptation to explore and experiment with its lore and narrative. Still, for all the good changes "House of the Dragon...

[This story contains spoilers from House of the Dragon season two, episode seven, “The Red Sowing.”]
The latest episode of House of the Dragon was a huge win for Team Black, if only in the short term, as Queen Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) plan to recruit new dragon riders came to fruition. While several men and women were killed horribly in dragon fire, a few others emerged from the trials with new dragons to call their own. What’s a few dozen casualties when three new fire-powered soldiers are officially on the board?
But not every character with Valyrian blood managed to snag a dragon, or even attempt to snag one. Conspicuously absent from the dragon-snatching party: Alyn of Hull, the Seasnake’s bastard son who is emerging as a leader in Team Black’s seafaring side of the war against the Greens. While his brother Addam (Clinton Liberty) was the first of the new riders (called Dragonseeds) to emerge,...

Both "Game of Thrones" and "House of the Dragon" have cultivated fascinating relationships with their respective source material. The former infamously outpaced the publication of author George R.R. Martin's fantasy series titled "A Song of Ice and Fire," flying off a cliff like Wile E. Coyote once it exhausted the books at its disposal and forced to build the rest of its runway in midair flight ... and, yeah, you remember how that ended. The latter, meanwhile, came with the baggage of a thoroughly unconventional book to adapt. "Fire & Blood" is the furthest thing from a traditional novel, instead chronicling the feats of the Targaryen dynasty in Westeros from the perspective of an in-universe historian. Reliant on fictional secondhand sources and a mix of conjecture and personal bias, the author paints a broad portrait of historical events centuries after the fact.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7, “The Red Sowing.”] Alyn of Hull (Abubakar Salim) doesn’t want to be a dragonrider, but will fate force his hand? House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7, the penultimate episode of the season, showed the Hull brothers protecting each other from afar by playing their part in the civil war between the blacks and the greens. Fate has brought these brothers into the conflict, and their focus is for each of them to make it out alive. But unlike his brother, Addam (Clinton Liberty), Alyn isn’t as invested in Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) fight to reclaim her throne. Still, the captain of father Corlys’ (Steve Toussaint) fleet may have no choice but sail into battle in next week’s House of the Dragon Season 2 finale. A battle seems imminent in the finale, airing Sunday, August 4 on HBO. In the finale trailer, Corlys and Alyn are ...

This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon through season 2 episode 7 and George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood.
The family feud at the center of House of the Dragon has gone from throne-room squabbling to outright conflicts, with assassins skulking down dark alleys and dragons engaging in open combat. The only thing the Targaryen family likes more than having sex with their relatives is killing them, especially when the throne is involved. It’s a complex web of siblings, half-siblings, bastard children, and sister-wife/brother-husband relationships, but thankfully, it’s easily broken down by their color scheme.
On one side, there are the Blacks, who support the cause of Viserys’ firstborn child, Queen Rhaenyra. On the other side are the Greens, who support the existing power structure in King’s Landing, headed by the hedonistic King Aegon II, the oldest child of Viserys I and his second wife, Alicent Hightower.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7, “The Red Sowing.”] Rhaenyra has found her dragonriders. In true Game of Thrones fashion, House of the Dragon delivered its most exciting episode of the season one week before its finale, at last putting Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) theory about dragonseeds to the ultimate test. She and Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) were right that Targaryen bastards could be accepted by a dragon, but not all. Many lives were lost in the search for riders for Vermithor and Silverwing. But found, they were. Just like in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, there are now three dragonriders: Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty), Hugh (Kieran Bew), and Ulf (Tom Bennett). Addam was chosen by Seasmoke in Episode 6 and was recognized by his father, Corlys (Steve Toussaint), in Episode 7 for the first time because of it. Here, Liberty breaks down what this means for Addam and older brother...

Editor’s Note: The following post contains spoilers for “House of the Dragon” Season 2, up to and including Episode 7.
Any “Game of Thrones” fan knows the significance of a penultimate episode. From “Baelor” to “The Rains of Castamere” to “Hardhome” and more, the world of Westeros holds nothing back ahead of its finale, and “House of the Dragon” Season 2 joins that noble tradition.
Episode 7, written by David Hancock and directed by Loni Peristere, spends half of its runtime on exposition — and the other half auditioning dragon riders for Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) to win back the high ground in her family’s civil war. The hour contains some stunning score work from Ramin Djawadi and shots by cinematographer Vanja Cernjul, and an A story anchored by D’Arcy’s performance and Rhaenyra’s drive.

Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) has tracked down Seasmoke, who has seemingly found a new rider in Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty), a bastard son of Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint). No one seems to be too thrilled about this as dragon riding has historically been a Targaryen right of passage. Jacaerys (Henry Collett) is worried about how it will be perceived if anyone can possess the blood of the dragon, which is wild considering that only two episodes ago he was willing to throw anyone with the smallest drop of Targaryen blood at a dragon. The Blacks are facing a big problem on House of the Dragon. Their ancestral seat of Dragonstone is teeming with dragons and yet they’re running low on Targaryens to actually ride them to war.
Thankfully, in season 2 episode 5 “Regent,” Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Prince Jacaerys (Harry Collett) dream up an ingenious solution: dragonseeds. Due to the Targaryen family’s prolific sexual appetites, there are plenty folks in the Seven Kingdoms who have a little bit of the “blood of the dragon” in them even if they don’t have a Targaryen surname. Perhaps Rhaenyra’s supporters can track down some of these folks and see how they take to the skies.
It’s a solid plan, but will it work? Who are these dragonrider...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4, “The Red Dragon and the Gold.”] Corlys Velaryon “f***ed up.” So says Eve Best, whose Princess Rhaenys does, in fact, know best on this matter. Tragedy befell Houses Velaryon and Targaryen in House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4, but not before the Queen Who Never Was could reveal the truth that she knows about Alyn of Hull (Abubakar Salim) and presumably his brother Addam (Clinton Liberty). The stupidly charming Best and Toussaint address this moment in the TV Insider interview above. Rhaenys met Alyn in “The Red Dragon and the Gold” long before she knew she was going off to battle with her beloved dragon, Meleys. Per Warner Bros. Discovery, the premiere of “House of the Dragon” Season 2 is now approaching 25 million viewers, and catch-up viewing over the Fourth of July holiday led “House of the Dragon” Season 2 to its “strongest week yet” on Max between July 1-7.

House of the Dragon‘s world gets even bigger in season 2. With the Dance of the Dragons Targaryen civil war now in motion, the “Blacks” (Queen Rhaenyra I’s supporters) and the “Greens” (King Aegon II’s supporters) must enlist the other Great Houses of Westeros to their cause.
This means that many of the characters we’ve gotten to know thus far, Prince Jacaerys (Harry Collett), Prince Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), Ser Criston (Fabian Frankel), and more, will hit the road to recruit nobles like college football coaches in need of a star quarterback.
“People have to curry favor with the other lords and figure out who’s on what team,” House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal told Den of Geek. “It’s nice because instead of just introducing 18 new characters, we follow characters who we already know going to these new places and meeting new people.”
Condal is exaggerating a bit.

This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2 episode 2 and references characters from Fire & Blood.
Things are heating up in House of the Dragon season 2, and as the Greens and the Blacks are rocked by losses on both sides, the clash known as the Dance of Dragons shows no signs of slowing down. To compete with all these cast departures, there’s been an influx of new blood in season 2, with episode 2 “Rhaenyra the Cruel” focusing on some major players.
The show’s latest episode cued up expanded roles for Clinton Liberty’s Addam of Hull and Kieran Bew’s Hugh Hammer, both of who will become important figures moving forward. However, an altogether more important member of the Green Team was given the nod. Yes, someone finally acknowledged Daeron Targaryen.

Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” premieres June 16 on HBO. The reign of House Targaryen begins with this prequel to the Emmy-winning HBO series “Game of Thrones,” based on George R.R. Martin‘s “Fire & Blood,” “House of the Dragon” is set nearly 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” telling the story of the Targaryen civil war with King Viserys I Targaryen’s children battling for control of the Iron Throne.
This second cycle has garnered early buzz from critics, certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a critics consensus that reads, “Approaching its dynastic cataclysm with a deliberate stride rather than a charging gallop, ‘House of the Dragon’ carefully sets up its emotional stakes to make the fiery spectacle all the more scorching.”

The hectic inaugural season of House of the Dragon covered roughly 20 years as the long-standing peace under King Viserys came to an end. In the season’s final two episodes, the series found its footing, establishing the parallel claims to the throne between the Black faction that follows Viserys’s appointed heir, daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), and the Green faction under Rhaenyra’s former best friend, Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), who follow Alicent and Viserys’s young, impetuous son Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney).
All the table setting and time jumping that dominated the better part of the first season have, perhaps inevitably, set the stage for a much stronger second season for House of the Dragon. It’s also, especially for a Game of Thrones property, surprisingly restrained. The first four episodes made available to press cover only a few weeks, and the entire opening episode, “A Son for a Son,...

If we had a nickel for every time a trailer for the second season of a big budget fantasy series based on an iconic book series released on a Tuesday in mid-May, we’d have two nickels. Yes folks, within mere hours of the first teaser for The Rings Of Power Season 2 dropping yesterday, HBO fired back with its own fancy new trailer for House Of The Dragon’s second season. And sure enough, there be dragons. Check it out below:
As you may recall, Season 1’s breathless finale saw Aemond Targaryen’s (Ewan Mitchell) dragon Vhagar brutally kill his half-sister Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) son Lucerys (Elliot Grihault). Families, eh? Unsurprisingly, Rhaenyra’s none-too-happy about Aemond’s heinous deed, and in this new trailer things are hotting up...

The Targaryen civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons" is nearly upon us and this sneak peek does a phenomenal job of setting the stage for the conflict to come.
All the major players are highlighted, with the sneak peek ending on a suitably epic note as Rhaenyra stands tall with Syrax looming large behind her. Who will prevail? Book readers (and most Game of Thrones fans) will know, but we won't spoil anything here,
"The first season was so much about the royal family, that 1 percent of the upper 1 percent that rules this world. All the people in the...

On Tuesday, HBO released the full trailer for “House of the Dragon” Season 2, which premieres June 16.
The eight-episode second season of the “Game of Thrones” prequel finds the Targaryens in a civil war, with the Greens – supporters of Aegon II Targaryn (Tom Glynn-Carney), son of late king Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the traditional heir – on one side, and the Blacks – partisans of Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Viserys’ chosen heir, and her husband/uncle Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) on the other. Both sides claim the Iron Throne, and they will kill their kin to get it.
The trailer previews the combination of political strategy, intense action, and interpersonal backstabbing that’s the “Game of Thrones” franchise’s signature. On the political side, there’s a small council meeting where Aegon forcefully rejects the idea of dignity in favor of revenge. On the action side,...

All hail the king ... or the queen! Which one has the rightful claim, you ask? Well, that depends on which side you happen to have sworn allegiance to in the great Targaryen schism known as the Dance of the Dragons.
"House of the Dragon" lived up to its billing as an essential "Game of Thrones" prequel, set hundreds of years before Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen ever made their claims on the Iron Throne. The events of the mythic Targaryen civil war always loomed large in the background of the original HBO series, but never before had we seen the fire, blood, and (of course) incest depicted with as much fervor as the 10 episodes that comprised its debut season. With all the major players fully established and the stakes set impossibly high, season 2 now has a full runway to double down on our favorite royal squabble and dive deep into...

HBO is rolling out some beauteous dragon footage and a potty-mouthed Aegon in the season 2 trailer for House of the Dragon, which returns June 16.
The drama based on on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” is setting up an epic war between the Targaryens and the Hightowers following the Season 1 finale, which saw tragedy befall the former (R.I.P Prince Lucerys Velaryon) at the hands of the latter (Prince Aemond Targaryen). The series was largely able to continue filming last summer during the strikes as it has a largely British cast under Equity contracts rather than SAG-AFTRA ones.
Season two returning cast is Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Additional returning cast includes Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.

“House of the Dragon” Season 2 is about to soar onto screens soon.
After Season 2 was first unveiled at Ccxp in Sao Paolo in December 2023 with a teaser, and later released viral dueling trailers, the season of the dragon is almost upon audiences. Season 2 will not have a time jump like in Season 1, and instead solely focus on former besties turned step-family Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) as they both battle for the Iron Throne.
Per the official synopsis, after the death of King Viserys I (Paddy Considine), an undeniable rift has grown between his daughter Rhaenyra (D’Arcy) and wife Alicent (Cooke), after their close friendship as teenagers. A rift that’s now a full-blown civil war.
The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” and is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”
