A24 delivered the “disaster comedy of the millennium” when their film Y2K (you can read our review at This Link) reached theatres on December 6th – but not a lot of movie-goers turned out to see it. The movie has only made $4 million at the domestic box office. Maybe it will be better luck when viewers have the option to watch the movie in the comfort of their own homes… and that option is arriving very soon. Next week, in fact. Y2K is set to receive a digital release on December 24th and is available for pre-order on Apple TV and Amazon.
The feature directorial debut of Saturday Night Live veteran Kyle Mooney, who also crafted the screenplay with Evan Winter, Y2K has the following official logline: On the last night of 1999, two high school juniors crash a New Years Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives in this dial-up disaster comedy.

Last year, the Prime Video streaming service released the ten episode series Daisy Jones & The Six (watch it Here), based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid – a novel that was partially inspired by the complicated issues Fleetwood Mac band members Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks dealt with behind the scenes. It isn’t directly the Fleetwood Mac story, but comparisons are unavoidable… and Steve Nicks soon let it be known that she loved the show and had watched its full run multiple times. She said, “It brought back memories that made me feel like a ghost watching my own story. It was very emotional for me,” and she joined many fans in hoping that there would be a second season. Since Daisy Jones & The Six covered the full story of Reid’s novel and was categorized as a limited series,...

This article contains spoilers for "Agatha All Along" season 1, episode 4 — "If I Can't Reach You Let My Song Teach You."
In the series premiere of Disney+ and Marvel's latest project "Agatha All Along," Kathryn Hahn turns in a pitch-perfect performance as Detective Agnes O'Connor, with the entire episode mimicking the HBO hit "Mare of Easttown" before the "TV magic" is stripped away to reveal that Agnes is actually Agatha, a now-powerless witch. In the third episode, the show offers up its own take on another HBO favorite, "Big Little Lies." So, what popular series does the fourth episode, titled "If I Can't Reach You Let My Song Teach You," reference? That would be "Daisy Jones & the Six," a huge Amazon Prime Video original based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
How and why does the show manage to pull off an homage to "Daisy Jones?" It's all...

The cast of Daisy Jones & The Six were set to take the stage once again according to series star Suki Waterhouse.
Waterhouse shared in a YouTube vlog on Thursday from the 2023 Lollapalooza festival that she along with the cast, which also included Sam Claflin, Riley Keough, Josh Whitehouse, Sebastian Chacon and Will Harrison, were supposed to perform at the Chicago-based music festival last summer.
“That whole thing was planned, we got people visas, like, it was an operation. And then the SAG strike happened, so we all decided that we should not perform at Lollapalooza,” the actress and singer recalled. Amid the strike, guidelines stated that the union’s affected members would be prohibited from all principal on-camera work — including acting, singing, dancing and stunts — on top of off-camera work, such as voice-acting and narration. All promotional activity such as interviews, award shows and podcasts were also not allowed by union members at the time.

Walk into the room where Caitlin Cronenberg is sitting, idly checking her phone and chatting with a friend, and you will be greeted by: Chaos.
The 39-year-old filmmaker already cuts an imposing figure, courtesy of a mane of dyed red hair in maximum tousled mode, some impressively art deco nailwork and her wide-set eyes, capable of a full-bore stare that Cronenberg uses to unblinkingly punctuate deadpan jokes (and which make her a dead ringer for her late mother). But the thing that you notice first is a small pendant that says,...

Climate change is getting worse day after day, and every uncomfortable conversation we’ve been putting off for decides is waiting for us just over the horizon. Caitlin Cronenberg’s debut feature Humane dives headfirst into that messy, chaotic crisis we’ve built for ourselves, in a chamber piece that has one affluent family forced to make the ultimate decision. It’s a classic thriller set-up with a premise ripped from the headlines of tomorrow’s newspaper, and a great cast of character actors ready to rip each other apart as soon as shit hits the fan.
The world of Humane is not unlike our own. With dwindling resources and increasingly inhabitable conditions, it’s like looking 5 minutes into the future. A future where fresh vegetable and meats are prohibited, and standing for any length of time in direct sunlight with no protection is practically a death sentence. But in...

There’s a nice trio of specialty films to highlight this weekend from Joanna Arnow, Uberto Pasolini and Caitlin Cronenberg’s feature directorial debut.
Joanna Arnow’s micro-budget comedy The Feeling That The Time For Doing Something Has Passed world premiered in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight. It follows a thirtysomething New York woman as time passes in her long-term casual Bdsm relationship, low-level corporate job, and quarrelsome Jewish family. Arnow writes, directs and stars. And that’s Bdsm, as in bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism.
The helmer is thrilled to see her feature (after 2017’s i hate myself :), and a handful of well-received shorts) launch a theatrical run, with Magnolia distributing. “That’s how I dream of my movies being seen,” Arnow tells Deadline. “It’s also so important to see comedies (on the big screen) Shared laughter with strangers is quite beautiful and healing in a way.

"For humanity to survive, 20% of the population must volunteer to die" in Humane, the feature film directorial debut of Caitlin Cronenberg. An exploration of the lethal lengths humanity (and one family in particular) will take to preserve itself in the face of a worldwide ecological disaster, Humane is now playing in select theaters via IFC Films, and in a new video interview, Daily Dead recently had the pleasure of catching up with Caitlin Cronenberg and co-stars Emily Hampshire and Jay Baruchel to discuss their ambitious new film, including its massive global scale, its exploration of dysfunctional family dynamics, and the Clue-esque mansion where much of the movie takes place.
Directed by Caitlin Cronenberg and written and produced by Michael Sparaga, Humane stars Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, Enrico Colantoni, Sebastian Chacon, Sirena Gulamgaus, Alanna Bale, and Peter Gallagher.
Synopsis: Humane takes place over a single day, mere months after a global...

Caitlin Cronenberg’s assured directorial debut Humane begins with the planet plagued by ecological disaster. After decades of ignoring the warnings of scientists, society is battling the threat of its own extinction. Erratic weather patterns are commonplace. A scarcity of food and water has led to strict rations. Curfews abound. The ozone layer is anemic from years of abuse, leaving little protection from Uv rays. Everyone walks around with reflective umbrellas.
In this not-so-distant dystopian future, countries have one year to reduce their population by 20 percent. These grim terms are part of the Athens accord, an emergency international meeting convened to respond to this man-made crisis. In North America, where Humane is vaguely set, the government has created a voluntary euthanasic program. Families of citizens who enlist are paid $250,000 and receive gratitude in the form of a shoddily constructed “Thank you” video on a nationally televised piece of propaganda. The...

Caitlin Cronenberg’s directorial feature debut, Humane, sees a global crisis puncture the safety bubble of an affluent family in a darkly comedic and violent fashion. Borders clamp down tight as governments resort to voluntary euthanasia in order to reduce the population within a year to stave off catastrophe. While Humane is far less interested in the wider-scaled intricacies of its setup, the social commentary has enough bite, and a compelling cast ensures a darkly funny chamber piece.
Set in a rich Ontario neighborhood, Humane introduces the York family through narcissistic patriarch Charles York (Peter Gallagher). The image-obsessed, somewhat retired news anchor has invited his grown children to his sprawling home to break the news that he’s decided to enlist in the government’s assisted suicide initiative along with his celebrity chef wife, Dawn (Uni Park). Humane follows the York family in a near-future setting dealing with a government euthanasia program after overpopulation dwindles the Earth's resources down to extinction levels. Directed by Caitlin Cronenberg in her feature directorial debut, the movie blends dark comedy and horror elements with an all-star cast. The movie's unique concept and humor attracted Cronenberg to make her feature debut, creating a tense and timely narrative, while stars Jay Baruchel and Emily Hampshire were thrilled to finally play siblings on screen.

You’ve gotta hand it to Caitlin Cronenberg – it takes a lot of guts to slip into the director’s chair after not one, but two of your immediate family members have already managed to put their own gloopy red stamps on the horror genre’s proverbial map. Following in the footsteps of her father (and King of Venereal Horror) David, and younger brother Brandon, the third Cronenberg to tackle narrative filmmaking makes her feature debut with Humane, a dystopian family drama that may be short on visual inventiveness, but has plenty to say about the bitter realities of life on a planet spinning out of control.
In the near future, environmental collapse has led to a last ditch effort in which world governments must close their borders and reduce their respective populations by 20%. By encouraging citizens to sign up for voluntary euthanization, not only are countries able to meet their reduction goals,...

Plot: In the wake of an environmental collapse that is forcing humanity to shed 20% of its population, a family dinner erupts into chaos when a father’s plan to enlist in the government’s new euthanasia program goes horribly awry.
Review: The modern era consists of a lot of uncertainty. Whether it’s climate change or nuclear war, there’s no telling what the landscape of our future will be. And I love it when filmmakers provide a glance at those dystopic futures. Hopefully, they serve as a message of what not to do and provide a window into a future we want to avoid. Humane takes the ever-present crisis of climate change and combines it with a fascist government hellbent on a solution. Marking her directorial debut, Caitlin Cronenberg continues her family’s pursuit of thought-provoking cinema with an intense journey through family pain.

A single-location thriller set in an imminent-seeming future where food scarcity has forced every country on Earth to cull its population by 20 percent, Caitlin Cronenberg’s slight but steel-eyed “Humane” takes a hard look — or at least an unflinching glance — at the irreconcilable relationship between self-interest and saving the planet. The broadly representative premise screenwriter Michael Sparaga uses in order to examine that dynamic: A family dinner at the castle-like estate of a former news anchor (Peter Gallagher), which is tense even before the wealthy retiree tells his four adult children that he and his most recent wife (Uni Park as Dawn) have volunteered to be euthanized later that same evening.
This news takes Charles’ kids by surprise, as their family doesn’t need the $250,000 payout that the government offers “heroic” — aka poor — people who agree to sacrifice themselves for the greater good, but there isn’t time enough to...

Caitlin Cronenberg’s feature-length directorial debut, Humane, presents a world where environmental collapse is no longer theoretical. While the full extent of that collapse is never fully detailed, it’s bad enough where people can no longer expose their bare skin to the sun anymore. Naturally, instead of, say, regulating the environmental impact of big businesses, working with scientists, or increasing efforts toward sustainability, the governments of the world collectively decide on going full Thanos: 20% of the world’s population must be culled, and people are being encouraged to volunteer for euthanasia. Those who volunteer are given a $250,000 reward to distribute to their next of kin, and as you can imagine, lower classes and marginalized folks aren’t taking the idea of state-sponsored murder for cash very well.

There will likely be no season 2 for Daisy Jones & the Six, as star Riley Keough offers a disappointing update. Keough is unsure about reprising her Daisy Jones role, saying she hasn't heard anything about season 2. Fans may be left wanting as Keough expresses interest but uncertainty in the future of the show.

Update: Soon after this story was published, a source reached out to Variety to confirm that “Daisy Jones and the Six” will not be getting a Season 2 because “it was always planned as a limited series.”
Despite the success of “Daisy Jones & the Six,” star Riley Keough says the band isn’t getting back together anytime soon.
Despite fans hoping — and demanding — a second season of the Prime Video miniseries adaptation of Tara Jenkin Reid’s best-selling novel, Keough tells me, “I would love to but I don’t know if it’s in the cards…I haven’t heard anything.”
The series followed Daisy Jones (Keough) and her bandmates as they make their way through the Los Angeles music scene of the 1970s. The series premiered just over a year ago to positive reviews. Keough and Morrone earned Emmy nominations as did the show for outstanding limited or anthology series.

"For humanity to survive, 20% of the population must volunteer to die" in Humane, the feature film directorial debut of Caitlin Cronenberg. An exploration of the lethal lengths humanity (and one family in particular) will take to preserve itself in the face of a worldwide ecological disaster, Humane will arrive in select theaters on April 26th, and we have a look at the trailer ahead of its release.
Directed by Caitlin Cronenberg and written and produced by Michael Sparaga, Humane stars Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, Enrico Colantoni, Sebastian Chacon, Sirena Gulamgaus, Alanna Bale, and Peter Gallagher.
Synopsis: Humane takes place over a single day, mere months after a global ecological collapse has forced world leaders to take extreme measures to reduce the earth’s population. In a wealthy enclave, a recently retired newsman has invited his grown children to dinner to announce his intentions to enlist in the nation’s new euthanasia program.

Yet another Cronenbrg getting into making horror films - yes she's the daughter of David Cronenberg, and brother of fellow filmmaker Brandon Cronenberg. Humane is a chilling dystopian satire opening in theaters first this April before it's streaming on Shudder in the summer. In the wake of a catastrophic environmental collapse that is forcing humanity to shed 20% of its population (are we headed here?), a family dinner erupts into chaos when a father's plan to enlist in the government's new euthanasia program goes horribly awry. Set over one night at this home. The film stars Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, Peter Gallagher, Enrico Colantoni, Sebastian Chacon, with Alanna Bale, and Sirena Gulamgaus.

Best known for his role as drummer Warren Rojas on the hit Amazon series Daisy Jones & The Six, Chacon remains represented, at present, by attorney Jeff Chabrowe and publicist Siri Garber of Platform PR. Deadline will update this post with a statement from him if and when it becomes available.
In a statement on their separation from Chacon, the Red Dirt team clarified that “production never formally engaged his services,” even if the actor had “expressed interest in being attached to the project.” We were first to...

Rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been sued for sexual assault for the second time in a week.
In a lawsuit filed on Wednesday in New York Supreme Court, Joi Dickerson-Neal claimed that the rapper and record mogul drugged and sexually assaulted her in 1991 and later engaged in “revenge porn”.
She claims to have “substantial and lifetime injuries”, reports Deadline.com.
Dickerson-Neal was a Syracuse University student at the time of the alleged assault. She had appeared briefly on one of Combs’ music videos. She says they went on a dinner date in Harlem that led to her being “intentionally drugged” after leaving her drink unattended. The effects left her “in a physical state where she could not independently stand or walk,” the suit claims.
The plaintiff also alleges that they left in Combs’ car.

Sebastian Chacon, who recently played drummer Warren Rojas in Daisy Jones & The Six, has been accused by three women of sexual assault. The plaintiffs, identified in a lawsuit filed in New York this week as Jane Doe 1, Jane Doe 2 and Jane Doe 3, allege the assaults took place between 2017 and 2022 in New York and Los Angeles.
The lawsuit, reviewed by Deadline and filed under the Adult Survivors Act, says plaintiffs are seeking “to recover for (Chacon’s) tortious conduct involving similar patterns of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse that he inflicted upon them individually between 2017 and 2022.”
Chacon’s attorney, Jeff Chabrowe, told People in a statement that the actor “vehemently denies these allegations.”
Regarding Jane Doe 1, the suit alleges that “starting around the summer of 2017, Chacon, who was 24 years old, groomed Jane Doe 1, aged 16, under the guise of a romantic relationship. Then, in December 2017, Chacon encouraged Jane Doe 1 to consume multiple...

We thought there might be a chance of Humane slipping into the 2023 film fest schedule, but Caitlin Cronenberg did move into production only in October of last year on her feature debut – so one full year of post (with possible sci-fi elements) work makes sense for a January drop and perhaps Park City is fertile Cronenberg ground as her brother Brandon has preemed here with his last two features Possessor in 2020 and Infinity Pool in 2023. Featuring Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, Peter Gallagher, Sebastian Chacon, Alanna Bale and Sirena Gulamgaus, production took place in Hamilton. There’s been talk of the cast of “Daisy Jones & The Six” performing the music from the hit Prime Video series — and that talk is still going on.

“Everybody involved really wants it to [happen],” he said, noting that scheduling and logistics is the key stumbling block.

Earlier this year, the Prime Video streaming service released the ten episode series Daisy Jones & The Six (watch it Here), based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid – a novel that was partially inspired by the complicated issues Fleetwood Mac band members Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks dealt with behind the scenes. It isn’t directly the Fleetwood Mac story, but comparisons are unavoidable. And now Nicks has taken to social media to share what she thought of the Prime series. In short, she loved it!
Developed for television by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, Daisy Jones & The Six has the following synopsis: In 1977, Daisy Jones & The Six were on top of the world. Fronted by two heat seeking missiles in Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne, the band had risen from obscurity to fame. And then, after a sold-out...

Longtime makeup artist Rebecca Wachtel has experience in realizing beloved book characters for television adaptations. She spent seven years working on the hit Freeform series “Pretty Little Liars,” the wildly successful show based on the Sara Shepard novels. So when she was hired to lead the makeup department on the Amazon Prime Video limited series “Daisy Jones and the Six,” based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Wachtel knew where to start.
“I feel like any time you’re transferring a book to screen, I want to honor the characters in the book, and I want to be true to them and I want to make the fans happy,” Wachtel tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview. We’ve all made the “Cop Rock” jokes. The Steven Bochco musical drama, which premiered in fall 1990, was a big swing: marrying original music with procedural storytelling. It was a colossal flop that we still talk about three decades later, and a reminder that musicals are hard.
Music has been a part of the TV landscape going back to the 1950s and shows like “Your Hit Parade.” But few series have successfully integrated regular music performances into their storytelling: “The Monkees” and “The Partridge Family” worked in the 1960s and ’70s. “Fame” did it in the early ’80s. And then “Cop Rock” scared people off the concept.
The 1990s animation boom incorporated music in shows like “The Simpsons” and “Animaniacs.” But not until the 21st century did scripted series really figure out how to make musical numbers work as part of the narrative. “Flight of the Conchords” did it with satiric tracks,...

Daisy Jones & The Six star Sam Claflin arrived at his final audition to play fictional 1970s rock star Billy Dunne without, by his own admission, the strongest grasp on the type of musician he was expected to embody.
His future showrunners had already taken a shine to the dimpled British actor, as had music supervisor Frankie Pine and producer Hello Sunshine’s president Lauren Neustadter, but one last hurdle remained before he could land the male lead in Amazon’s hot adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel of the same name. He had to sing live for the project’s music producers, Blake Mills and Tony Berg. Pine gave Claflin a shot of moonshine to soothe his nerves. The actor entered the storied halls of Sound City Studios, the Van Nuys building where Mick Fleetwood first met Lindsey Buckingham, and proceeded to kind of blow it. “I had prepared Elton John’s ‘Your Song,...

Whether it’s because of Covid shutdowns, reboots, spin-offs or a gap between seasons, more and more actors in Emmy-eligible shows are coming to their roles after much delay. While this could create financial or scheduling concerns, it also gives the talent more time to ruminate on the part, new or old.
More often, actors returned to characters they previously inhabited. Alan Cumming, nominated three times for playing the slippery Eli Gold on the CBS drama “The Good Wife,” reprised the role as a guest star for the final season of its spin-off, Paramount+’s “The Good Fight.”
Adam DeVine, who played frequent foil Bumper Allen in the “Pitch Perfect” movies, became the lead of the Peacock spinoff, “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin.” And Adam Scott, Emmy-nominated for his performance in “Severance” last year, joined other cast members from the Starz comedy “Party Down” for the cater-waiter comedy’s third season,...
