Over the weekend, Nicolas Cage won a Saturn Award for his work in A24’s “Dream Scenario,” a surrealist comedy that saw the performer playing a college professor whose dreams infect the masses. He used part of his acceptance speech to warn against the dangers of artificial intelligence.
“I say, protect yourselves from AI interfering with your authentic and honest expressions,” the actor warned.
After thanking his writer/director Kristoffer Borgli for dreaming up the imaginative world of “Dream Scenario,” he then turned his attention to the threat of AI.
“But there is another world that is also disturbing me. It’s happening right now around all of us: The new AI world. I am a big believer in not letting robots dream for us. Robots cannot reflect the human condition for us,” Cage began. “That is a dead end if an actor lets one AI robot manipulate his or...

Actor Nicolas Cage used his Best Actor acceptance speech at the 52nd Saturn Awards to deliver a passionate warning about artificial intelligence’s potential threat to artistic creativity in filmmaking. Speaking at the Hilton Universal City Hotel on Sunday, Cage argued strongly for preserving the human element in artistic expression.
Receiving the award for his role in “Dream Scenario,” the 61-year-old actor emphasized the critical importance of human emotional depth in performance. “The job of all art is to hold a mirror to the human condition,” Cage stated, cautioning that AI-generated performances would ultimately “lack heart and turn to mush.”
Cage’s concerns aren’t new. In October, he previously expressed worry about potential misuse of his digital body scans, fearing posthumous manipulation of his image through AI technology. At the Saturn Awards, which honor achievements in science fiction, fantasy, and horror, he made his stance clear: “I am a...

In a moment near the end of our interview at the IndieWire Studio at Sundance, presented by Dropbox, Callum Turner gets sheepish about dropping a certain four-letter word. The British actor asks if he’s going to be bleeped. When I say that he won’t — IndieWire is edgy and won’t tolerate censorship! — he says he actually really wants, perhaps desperately, to be bleeped.
Perhaps it’s the kind of American talk show convention the 34-year-old Londoner wants to embrace as he continues to make a mark in the U.S. The rising star has already been in “Green Room,” “Emma,” “The Boys in the Boat,” as well as “Masters of the Air,” but late night show ubiquity still lies ahead for him. And it’s gonna happen.
The frantic desire to be bleeped certainly captures the manic energy of his new, cockeyed rom-com, “Atropia,” directed by Hailey Gates and co-starring Alia Shawkat.

Robert Pattinson admitted in an interview with Vanity Fair that he nearly convinced himself that cinema was dying and it was time to maybe stop acting as Hollywood struggled in the wake of the Covid pandemic and two major labor strikes. But then came a few movies like Oscar contender “The Brutalist,” directed by his friend Brady Corbet, that made him excited about the movies again. Corbet directed Pattinson in the filmmaker’s debut feature “The Childhood of a Leader.”
“It’s strange because the last few years for the film industry, starting with Covid and then the strikes, everyone was constantly saying cinema is dying. And quite convincingly,” Pattinson said. “I was literally almost turned off. It actually started to get a little worrying.”

A24 and Nicolas Cage proved to be a match made in heaven with their 2023 surreal comedy Dream Scenario. A24 is the auteur-driven studio best known for thought-provoking films like Everything Everywhere All At Once and Midsommar, and the actor with an eclectic resume ranging from Oscar-winning fare like Leaving Las Vegas and Adaptation to action classics like Con Air and Face-Off, were the perfect collaborators for writer/director Kristoffer Borgli's brilliant satire of celebrity culture.
Dream Scenario follows Paul Matthews, an unassuming professor living a mundane life with his wife and two daughters. Paul is a passive man, not particularly respected by his students, peers, or family, and he dreams of making a bigger impact. He unexpectedly gets his wish when random people worldwide begin having dreams about him. Initially, he basks in the attention and newfound fame this brings him, but they also come with unexpected, drastic consequences.

Author Bret Easton Ellis says the announced “American Psycho” reimagining isn’t real.
Ellis said during his eponymous podcast that announced remake’s director Luca Guadagnino and rumored lead actor Austin Butler are not contracted for the feature. Regardless, Ellis confirmed that he is in no way involved in the potential reboot, despite writing the novel it will be adapted from.
“American Psycho” was first brought to the screen in 2000 with Mary Harron co-writing and directing; Christian Bale starred. Guadagnino’s version, which is being billed as an entirely new adaptation of Ellis’ book, was announced in 2024 as a Lionsgate film with Scott Z. Burns adapting. Ellis says Burns does not have a deal in place either.
Jacob Elordi was first rumored to be leading “American Psycho” prior to fellow Elvis-portrayer Butler being announced. Elordi has been a favorite of author Ellis’ ever since his “Oh, Canada” casting. Butler was...

Marvel used the same strategy with Sebastian Stan that they used with other actors in their roster. The studio hired relatively unknown actors, paid them cheap compared to industry standards, and they would receive a higher salary down the road if they delivered. According to this strategy, Stan was only paid breadcrumbs when he took on Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger.

According to Stan, it was so low that he couldn’t even afford his rent despite starring in a Marvel movie. However, as the Marvel promise goes, Stan was offered multiple projects down the lane. Stan is set to reprise his Winter Soldier role once again for the upcoming film, Thunderbolts*.

Austin Butler is looking to get a little crazy in Luca Guadagnino’s “American Psycho” remake.
Butler, who has made his career working with auteurs such as Baz Luhrmann, Denis Villeneuve, Ari Aster, Darren Aronofsky, and Jeff Nichols, might have his Guadagnino debut with the upcoming feature. Variety reported that Butler is in talks to star as the iconic Patrick Bateman in Guadagnino’s reimagining of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel.
IndieWire has learned that there are no casting deals are in place, however.
The Lionsgate film was announced earlier this year, with Scott Z. Burns adapting the novel for the screen.
Christian Bale led the original 2000 film alongside Guadagnino’s frequent collaborator Chloë Sevigny; Mary Harron co-wrote and directed the classic feature. Guadagnino’s version will not be a remake of Harron’s but rather a new adaptation of Ellis’ book.

Since making his acting debut in 1982's "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," Nicolas Cage has gone on to amass an astounding filmography that has never stopped evolving. He's admittedly made some baffling choices as an actor, starring in the infamously terrible "Deadfall" (which has a zero rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and the 2019 dud "Grand Isle," whose flaws have more to do with its storytelling than Cage's performance as a haunted war veteran. Really, we would be here all day if I were to list the scores of middling-to-awful straight-to-video flicks Cage has starred in, yet the actor never, ever phones it in and shows up to every role with an intensity that is tough to match.
Being one of those actors who shines brighter than ever when given layered, intriguing roles to work with, Cage has delivered several unforgettable performances worth rooting for. For starters, we have the lesser-known...

Robert Pattinson is the latest star to join Christopher Nolan’s top-secret follow-up to his Best Picture Oscar winner “Oppenheimer,” which Universal will release on July 17, 2026, The Wrap has learned.
The film also stars Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Anne Hathaway. Plot details are currently being kept under wraps and insiders note that loglines or descriptions of the film that have been published to date are wrong.
Through a combination of Nolan’s devoted global fanbase, universal acclaim, strong marketing from Universal and Imax, and an organic pop culture phenomenon spawned by its shared release with “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer” became the highest-grossing biopic in box office history with $976 million worldwide last year.
Then, this past March, the film became the highest-grossing movie to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 20 years. In fact, it was the first Best Picture winner since “Lord of the Rings: The Return...

Robert Pattinson has come quite far since his role in the Twilight movies, which, to be fair, was one of his worst acting jobs. Throughout the four films, Pattinson’s performance progressively worsened. However, he did not have much to go on with the vampire character. Pattinson proved to be a performer in films like The Childhood of a Leader, Good Time, and The Lighthouse.

Pattinson was not a fan-favorite when he was cast in the role of Batman. However, he surprised fans with his darker take on the character, something Matt Reeves also got credit for. The film has now set a major benchmark that James Gunn will have to surpass with his Dcu film, The Brave and the Bold. However, Pattinson’s upcoming projects seem to have more promise than his role as the Dark Knight.

Producers and distributors heading to Las Vegas for this year’s American Film Market, which runs Nov. 5-10, are betting big that indie action is primed for a comeback.
The AFM was built on action movies — the leading independent film bazaar launched in 1981 at the start of a decade defined by the cinematic stylings of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steven Segal, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Thanks to Luca Guadagnino, Patrick Bateman will be back.
The auteur is in final negotiations with Lionsgate for a new interpretation of iconic novel “American Psycho,” the studio announced Friday, October 18. The Bret Easton Ellis book was first brought to the screen in 2000. Christian Bale led the original film alongside Guadagnino’s frequent collaborator Chloë Sevigny.
Scott Z. Burns will adapt Ellis’ novel. Rather than a remake of the 2000 feature, Burns’ screenplay will be a new adaptation of the IP. Mary Harron directed the original film from a screenplay by Harron and Guinevere Turner.
Guadagnino’s iteration of “American Psycho” will be produced by Frenesy Films and executive produced by Pressman Film’s Sam Pressman, the son of Edward R. Pressman, who was a producer of the first adaptation.

Some casting news spread over the past 24 hours, Alana Haim is continuing her progression in cinema and working with choice auteurs climbing aboard the latest by Kelly Reichardt (The Mastermind) and Kristoffer Borgli (The Drama). It’s not that far-fetched to think that she’ll shore up in three major titles in 2025 – namely the new Paul Thomas Anderson film. She joined Josh O’Connor for the set in the 70s portrait by Reichardt, and for Borgli project, she joins Zendaya, Robert Pattinson and the just announced Mamoudou Athie. This third feature for the filmmaker is said to be a romance — a couple, played by Zendaya and Pattinson, who in the days leading up to their wedding, end up in a crisis when unexpected revelations derail what one of them thought they knew of the other.…...

Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” made its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, September 9. His adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ novel stars Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey as the two showcase just how ruinous an addictive, life-altering love can be.
In the film, there’s a graphic sex scene involving Craig and Starkey, where the camera starts on them undressing, then pivots out the window. In “Call Me By Your Name,” Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer begin having sex, only for the camera to gear toward the window and cut to another scene. However, with “Queer,” instead of cutting to another scene, it cuts to Craig and Starkey going at it harder than any sex scene Guadagnino has portrayed.
When we asked Guadagnino if the “Queer” scene was rebuking criticisms of the “Call Me By Your Name” sex scenes, at the TIFF premiere, he told us,...

Independent studio A24 may have scored one of the most sought-after casts of the year. Sources confirm that Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are in early negotiations to headline director Kristoffer Borgli’s new project, titled “The Drama.”
The film would continue the success both actors have found balancing mainstream blockbusters with critically-acclaimed indies. Zendaya just dominated the box office with her role in “Dune: Part Two” and shone in the tennis drama “Challengers,” while Pattinson most recently donned the bat suit for “The Batman” and has worked with auteur directors like Robert Eggers.
Though plot details are under tight wraps, “The Drama” is said to revolve around a romance that takes an intriguing detour as a couple prepares to walk down the aisle. Borgli made waves at Cannes with “Sick of Myself” and his comedic skills were on display in “Dream Scenario,” signaling he’ll bring a singular vision.

Dream Scenario director Kristoffer Borgli has found himself in, well, a dream scenario aptly enough. Hot on the heels of his wackadoodle Nic Cage starrer from last year, the Norwegian filmmaker is preparing to reteam with A24 for his next feature, The Drama — and he's got two incredible actors eyed to lead it. According to Deadline, Dune star Zendaya and The Batman's Robert Pattinson are both in early negotiations to lead the project, written by Borgli himself and set to be produced by Midsommar helmsman Ari Aster.
Per Deadline's reporting, A24 were keen to work with Borgli again after the success of the Sick Of Myself director's aforementioned, Cage-stuffed psycho-comic-drama, and even more-so once Zendaya became interested in the project. A24 is collaborating once again with Dream Scenario director Kristoffer Borgli, with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson on board for The Drama.
There was plenty of critical acclaim for Kristoffer Borgli’s 2023 offbeat drama Dream Scenario. The film starred Nicolas Cage as a college professor who becomes a global celebrity when he starts appearing in everybody’s dreams across the globe. The film possessed that trademark unconventionality that we’ve come to expect from A24 films and scored some good reviews too.
As such – despite publicly expressing a desire to movie its projects further into the mainstream – there was always a chance that A24 would want to be involved in Borgli’s next project. It looks like the studio will get to have its cake and eat it, given that the filmmaker is set to sign up two major names for his next film, simply titled The Drama.

Deadline reports that Robert Pattinson and Zendaya are in early negotiations to star in The Drama, a new movie from Dream Scenario writer/director Kristoffer Borgli for A24.
Plot details are unknown, but the story is rumoured to revolve around a “romance that takes an unexpected turn before a couple’s big day.” That unexpected turn could be just about anything. I’m down. After the success of Dream Scenario, which starred Nicolas Cage as a man who keeps appearing in other people’s dreams, A24 was keen to work with Borgli again. Zendaya showed a lot of interest in the project, and with Robert Pattinson also involved, the studio is making this a top priority.

Both Zendaya and Pattinson have very busy slates. Zendaya is finally expected to start working on Euphoria season 3 early next year.
