Ellis said during his eponymous podcast that announced remake’s director Luca Guadagnino and rumored lead actor Austin Butler are not contracted for the feature. Regardless, Ellis confirmed that he is in no way involved in the potential reboot, despite writing the novel it will be adapted from.

“American Psycho” was first brought to the screen in 2000 with Mary Harron co-writing and directing; Christian Bale starred. Guadagnino’s version, which is being billed as an entirely new adaptation of Ellis’ book, was announced in 2024 as a Lionsgate film with Scott Z. Burns adapting. Ellis says Burns does not have a deal in place either.

Matt Reeves revealed that he wrote The Batman with Robert Pattinson in mind. There were several actors on the shortlist to replace Ben Affleck as the next Dark Knight, including Pattinson, Nicholas Hoult, Armie Hammer, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The Twilight star was Reeves’ choice but he was unsure whether the actor would take on the role.

Austin Butler is looking to get a little crazy in Luca Guadagnino’s “American Psycho” remake.

Butler, who has made his career working with auteurs such as Baz Luhrmann, Denis Villeneuve, Ari Aster, Darren Aronofsky, and Jeff Nichols, might have his Guadagnino debut with the upcoming feature. Variety reported that Butler is in talks to star as the iconic Patrick Bateman in Guadagnino’s reimagining of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel.

IndieWire has learned that there are no casting deals are in place, however.

The Lionsgate film was announced earlier this year, with Scott Z. Burns adapting the novel for the screen.

Christian Bale led the original 2000 film alongside Guadagnino’s frequent collaborator Chloë Sevigny; Mary Harron co-wrote and directed the classic feature. Guadagnino’s version will not be a remake of Harron’s but rather a new adaptation of Ellis’ book.

Zendaya and Anne Hathaway are reportedly joining the cast of Christopher Nolan’s new project, which will see the British filmmaker working on his second film for Universal Pictures after Oscar-winner and global hit Oppenheimer.

Matt Damon and Tom Holland are already set for the yet-to-be-titled project, which Nolan will write and direct, and produce with partner Emma Thomas through their Syncopy company. The project is expected to shoot next year and is slated for a July 17, 2026 release on Imax screens. No plot details have been revealed.

The auteur is in final negotiations with Lionsgate for a new interpretation of iconic novel “American Psycho,” the studio announced Friday, October 18. The Bret Easton Ellis book was first brought to the screen in 2000. Christian Bale led the original film alongside Guadagnino’s frequent collaborator Chloë Sevigny.

Scott Z. Burns will adapt Ellis’ novel. Rather than a remake of the 2000 feature, Burns’ screenplay will be a new adaptation of the IP. Mary Harron directed the original film from a screenplay by Harron and Guinevere Turner.

Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” made its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, September 9. His adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ novel stars Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey as the two showcase just how ruinous an addictive, life-altering love can be.

In the film, there’s a graphic sex scene involving Craig and Starkey, where the camera starts on them undressing, then pivots out the window. In “Call Me By Your Name,” Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer begin having sex, only for the camera to gear toward the window and cut to another scene. However, with “Queer,” instead of cutting to another scene, it cuts to Craig and Starkey going at it harder than any sex scene Guadagnino has portrayed.

Norway’s heavyweight producer Thomas Robsahm, credited for more than 50 films, including Joachim Trier’s double Oscar-nominated “The Worst Person in the World,” is gearing up for his busiest film slate ever.

After the delivery of Lilja Ingolfsdotttir’s Karlovy Vary’s multiple-winner “Loveable” and Yenni Lee’s “Explosions in My Heart,” which both screened at the New Nordic Films market in Haugesund, Robsahm is gearing up for four film shoots.

First up is “Dancing Queen in Hollywood,” Aurora Gossé’s sequel to her 2023 family hit “Dancing Queen,” which snagged multiple awards in 2023, including best children’s film in Zurich, Seattle, and distribution deals in more than 30 territories. The film starred Nicolas Cage as a college professor who becomes a global celebrity when he starts appearing in everybody’s dreams across the globe. The film possessed that trademark unconventionality that we’ve come to expect from A24 films and scored some good reviews too.

As such – despite publicly expressing a desire to movie its projects further into the mainstream – there was always a chance that A24 would want to be involved in Borgli’s next project. It looks like the studio will get to have its cake and eat it, given that the filmmaker is set to sign up two major names for his next film, simply titled The Drama.
