In his arresting, thought-provoking directorial debut The Most Wonderful Day Of The Year, Australian Director Harry Windsor takes a nuanced journey into the feelings of dissatisfaction which push some people to hit the reset button. Through the eyes of a young mother whose home and life seem to brim with the supposed markers for happiness, we see what happens when the question of how satisfied you truly are is given the chance to develop into life-altering action. It’s a feeling that many of us entertain in idle ‘what if’ thought experiments but rarely follow through with and one which echoes Windsor’s own hesitant move from the world of film journalism to helming his first directorial project. Ahead of today’s online premiere of The Most Wonderful Day of the Year we had the opportunity to probe Windsor about his detailed and studied prep work for the script, how...

The film, which is nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, nabbed a BAFTA award on Sunday evening for Best Editing by John Gilbert.
What was Ce's involvement in Hacksaw Ridge?
Bolton: We had a team of 25 people dedicated to the project to ensure we delivered to the deadline. Our VFX team worked on over 100 set extension shots, creating quite massive landscapes needed to be true to specific location in the United States. We were also lucky to be chosen to create the Titles and Credits design on the film.

Damian Martin and.Adam Johansen.
The founders of prosthetics and creature effects house Odd Studio, Adam Johansen and Damian Martin, have worked on everything from 'Farscape' to 'Pacific Rim: Maelstrom'. They talk to Harry Windsor about their partnership.
How did you guys meet?
Adam: We meet in .98 on the first season of Farscape. Damian and myself were among the first Aussies to join Jim Henson's crew and the only ones to do all four seasons. It was a fantastic series to work on, with so much creature effects and prosthetic work, and an invaluable experience for all involved, making new aliens and creatures on a weekly basis for four years. We both ended up working on productions like Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones and Revenge of The Sith, the Matrix films and a few others in between Farscape seasons. We worked very well...

Martin Brown.
In 2017, Aftrs is offering an advanced diploma in script editing and development. Aftrs Open.s Director of Award Courses Martin Brown speaks to Harry Windsor about the new course.
I spoke to Neil Peplow a few months ago and he mentioned that you'd been hearing that the ability to assess scripts was in short supply. Who were you hearing that from?
Neil did an industry survey a little while ago. One of the findings from the survey was that, in terms of how the business operates, there are a lot of people who have a stake in making judgements about what a good, commercial script is that's going to get traction creatively and financially. We were talking to one of the well-known production companies last Friday and script coverage was number one on the list of things that they thought a new, prospective employee should have as a skill set.

Emma Jensen.
Brisbane native Emma Jensen talks to Harry Windsor about her career as a writer and the path to her first feature, 'A Storm in the Stars', starring Elle Fanning and Douglas Booth and set for release this year.
How did you get into writing?
My background is in script development. I started as a producer.s assistant in London 17 years ago at Film4. I was their second assistant. I went to Queensland College of Art and studied film and television, and then graduated and thought — now what do I do? So I spent a few years in illustrious careers like Sizzler and working in a bank and I got to the point where I thought, maybe I should do that backpacking thing. I signed up with a temp agency and they asked if I wanted to do half a day at Film4, and I was like,...

Justin Kurzel’s “Assassin’s Creed” starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, arrives in theaters this week. The story revolves around criminal Callum Lynch (Fassbender), who is set to be executed but when the Templars learn of his Assassin ancestry, they fake his death in order to use him for their mission. Critics’ reviews are in, with many not so thrilled about the latest video game movie.
IndieWire’s David Ehrlich gave the film a B- and called it a “silly, senseless and possibly the best video game movie ever made.”
“Justin Kurzel’s adaptation is utterly ridiculous, but it’s also the most interesting blockbuster in a year where most of them were boring…Declaring this to be the best video game movie ever made is the kind of backhanded compliment that sounds like hyperbole, but the description fits the bill on both counts.”

Barring the lucrative Resident Evil franchise, Hollywood cinema has a spotty record when it comes to live-action video game movies – and that’s putting it kindly. From Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to the by-now infamous Super Mario Bros. film of ’93, the list of botched pixel ports stretches back for more than two decades, but even after this year’s so-so Warcraft, all eyes turned to Assassin’s Creed as the one adaptation to buck tradition. Spoilers: You’d be best tempering your expectations.
Even in the wake of last week’s largely positive fan reactions, the early critical consensus claims Assassin’s Creed will go down as another problematic video game movie for its po-faced screenplay and convoluted storytelling. Whether these reviews have much of a bearing on the film’s box office projections – let alone...

Brian Truitt over at USA Today, gave it an 75 score, saying: "The 5th Wave finds a way to make the most of Moretz’s talents, with the emotionality she showed in If I Stay and the utter physical chutzpah of her Kick-Ass films." Clark Collis over at Entertainment Weekly, gave it a 58 score. He stated: "The frankly preposterous nature of the film...
