Tonight’s MPTF’s telethon on Ktla raised 858,493 for Hollywood’s 101-year-old charitable organization – exceeding the 750,000 that it had targeted. Jeff Bridges, who was one of the many stars who appeared on the show, noted that the MPTF is in “dire straits” due to the extraordinary Covid expenses it’s racked up over the last three years.
MPTF said in October that it’s facing its “imminent demise” unless it raises 10 million-12 million in cash donations by the end of this year in order to meet its bank line compliance and continue ongoing operations.

MPTF president and CEO Bob Beitcher said last week that the current fundraising campaign has only raised about half of that. Tonight’s telethon – called Lights, Camera, Take Action! – gets them nearly 1 million closer to meeting its fundraising needs.

The Motion Picture & Television Fund’s star-packed telethon Lights, Camera, Take Action! airs live Saturday on Ktla beginning at 7 p.m. It hopes to raise at least 750,000 to defray some of the 9 million in direct Covid expenses it’s racked up over the past three years – and to help keep more than 250 residents of the retirement village from having to move out.
If you can’t watch it on Ktla, you can watch the livestream above.

Earlier this week, MPTF (Motion Picture & Television Fund) hosted its ninth annual “Reel Stories, Real Lives” event virtually, and as always, it was a moving evening filled with extraordinary stories highlighting the impact of MPTF on the entertainment community.
Longtime advocate and supporter Hugh Jackman hosted the event, which featured powerful storytelling from Angela Bassett, Jason Bateman, and Danai Gurira, as well as a special appearance from Yvette Nicole Brown.
The program, which streamed across MPTF’s YouTube and Facebook pages, is still available for viewing.
Angela Bassett performed the tale of Toni Vaz, written by Charla Lauriston. MPTF’s Country Home is where she lives now, but Toni began in NYC. Her desire for adventure carried her through unexpected paths in the entertainment industry. She was a stuntwoman, an actress, and the creator of the NAACP Image Awards. She is a true leader who wanted better roles for herself and fellow people of color.

More often than not, advance photos promoting TV shows ahead of air date are known for serving up spoilers – it’s just a matter of how much will be on display. In the case of our latest Supergirl gallery, many images included are seemingly innocuous, but the analytical among us should be able to connect some dots.
So, as you peruse the pictures provided, the first thing you’ll notice is a whole lot of everyone standing around and looking confused. The other is Lena Luthor appearing as though she’s posing for a brochure circulated by a college with a strong focus on the sciences.
But if you look deeper, you begin seeing this as a flipbook of sorts, as can sometimes be the case with promotional galleries. And since there’s a complete absence of Reign or any other sort of guest villain, you have to admit it...

After what felt like an eternity, Supergirl has finally returned from its winter hiatus. Sure, it’ll be forced into hibernation again in a matter of weeks, but let’s just enjoy seeing the Girl of Steel while we can, shall we?
To say that a lot went down in last night’s midseason premiere is an understatement. Not only did the Legion of Super-Heroes – Mon-El, Saturn Girl and Brainiac 5, in this case – come together for the first time on this particular series, but Reign continued handing anyone who had the guts to take her on their respective asses, effectively proving that she’s easily one of the Arrowverse’s most powerful villains to date.
Luckily for everyone, the Maiden of Might showed up just in time to help balance the scales in the favor of good, thus forcing the Worldkiller to retreat and lick her wounds. Still, this war is far,...

Even with an extended hiatus looming, it sure does look like Supergirl will squeeze in a fair amount of memorable moments within the four episodes set to air over the next few weeks. For starters, the Legion of Super-Heroes will be making their presence known in the midseason premiere itself.
So far, the network has been slowly pulling back the curtain on each individual member of one of DC’s oldest and most beloved super teams. Just last week, for instance, we got our first look at Brainiac 5 and, yesterday, we finally saw Mon-El donning some heroic threads.
Normally, the Arrowverse costuming department does a pretty fine job, but the online reaction to how the Legion is thus far appearing has been met with some consternation. While Smallville‘s iteration of the team was a bit more casual in appearance, they were recognizable as those characters. Supergirl‘s take,...

To this point, Supergirl season 3 has proven to be a different beast from its predecessor. Last year, we were given a science fiction tour de force as the series fully embraced its comic book roots, often feeling like a live action answer to Superman: The Animated Series. This time, however, the focus has been placed more on drama, perhaps in an effort to keep the show’s budget in check.
Regardless, the back half of this season will still mine the DC well as much as possible, for we know that the Legion of Super-Heroes are set to make an impact upon the show’s return from hiatus. And, with that, Mon-El will finally suit up – only his costume isn’t quite accurate to the source material.
As you can see in the accompanying gallery, the network has offered up two new posters of the Daxamite: One providing a look at his new threads,...

The next load of episode synopses for Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow have arrived. Although Supergirl will most certainly have her hands full over the course of this season’s remaining three episodes having to deal with the likes of Rhea and General Zod, James Olsen is set to get some needed exposure tonight in “City of Lost Children.”
You see, with Calista Flockhart no longer being a series regular, CatCo hasn’t enjoyed the prominence it had during the first season as of late. Sure, we do see it here and there, but you have to admit that much more time has been spent over at the Deo and, as such, James has needed something to keep him occupied even though he’s been put in charge of the media empire. Thus, having him take to the streets as Guardian has filled that void.

Now that Kara has successfully made sure that her adoptive sister, Alex, remains among the living for the foreseeable future, she’s once again ready to embark on adventures that are a little more science fiction in nature. And should next week’s episode of Supergirl, “City of Lost Children,” live up to its trailer, we’ll get just that.
With only three episodes remaining this season, it looks as though Rhea is beginning the first phases of whatever her endgame may be. Whether General Zod factors into her plans remains to be seen, as we all know that Kryptonians and Daxamites aren’t exactly on the best of terms, but we could very well be looking at an “enemy of my enemy” scenario.
While it remains unclear as to what Mon-El’s mother has on her agenda, the trailer above gives me the impression that it has something to...

With just a few short hours to go until Kevin Smith’s directorial return to Supergirl hits airwaves, the network has circulated a few teaser clips in an effort to tide us all over. But, as usual, they don’t make the wait any easier.
That sentiment could especially be aimed at the first clip, which sees Mon-El’s parents, Lar Gand and Rhea, visit him at work. Not surprisingly, they aren’t happy seeing royalty earning an hourly wage, making me recall similar events seen in Coming to America.
Likewise, Mon-El is less than thrilled with the bounty put on his girlfriend’s head, which he suspects to be their fault. Honestly, that’s what we’ve been expecting for a while, too, but we’ll all just have to tune in to see who the culprit really is. Aside from maybe Cadmus, the list of suspects is quite short.

With the musical crossover involving Supergirl and The Flash airing tonight, it’s understandable that the network dropped a promo for that upon the conclusion of the Girl of Steel’s latest adventure last night. Still, it felt kind of weird not seeing a trailer for next week’s episode, especially when you factor in the knowledge that it’s directed by none other than Kevin Smith. Fortunately, we have you covered.
When it comes to the footage offered, we see Kara having to deal with the reality that a price has been put on her head. Given the events witnessed in “Star-Crossed,” it’s really starting to look like that bounty is the brainchild of Lar Gand and Rhea, Mon-El’s parents, something that we theorized previously. Dire situation aside, it looks like there will be a bit of levity offered due to Kara and Mon-El’s recent breakup.

We’ve known for a while now that DC superfan Kevin Smith would direct his second episode of Supergirl this season, which is arriving a little sooner than expected. Even so, we doubt many of you out there will complain.
In “Distant Sun,” it appears that life will become exceedingly difficult for Kara Zor-El as she comes within reaching distance of the season finale. Keep in mind that one episode will precede this that will not only serve as a prologue to the musical crossover with The Flash, but also lets us in on the truth behind Mon-El. In short, expect a lot to happen within that hour of television.
When Smith’s next episode does get here, it will apparently see Kara attempting to evade aliens who are trying to collect a bounty on her.

Cool couple bits of information here: It is important to start with the fact that, while I loved Kevin Smith in his Flash episodes, I did not like his 1st Supergirl episode. However, it is easy to say that it was not his fault, as bad writing in that episode ruined it, for the most part. That being said, he is coming back strong with a new Supergirl episode which investigates Daxam further (Mon-El's home planet) and he even gave us a hint that the great Linda Carter (the '70s Wonder Woman) will reprise her role as president. Check his Instagrams posted from the Daxam throne room:

Now that The CW has moved on from the romance between Kara Danvers and James Olsen, what is left to do with the character? Lucy Lane isn't around and the Girl of Steel doesn't really need his help now she's an experienced superhero, so Supergirl is taking the surprise decision to have him become a vigilante. In this first look at next week's instalment, we get a glimpse of him embarking on that path. Just last night, I was reflecting on how Arrow spawned such a rich universe – now a multiverse – from its humble beginnings as an unrelated followup to Smallville. With timelines being rewritten and characters appearing in live action that we previously never thought possible (Wild Dog, anyone?), we truly are living in a golden age of fandom.
As can be expected, synopses released by the network allow us to gaze into the not too distant future of our favorite superhero shows. Please note that The Flash wasn’t included due to the fact that November 8 is Election Day in the United States, therefore the Scarlet Speedster won’t have a new episode to offer that week.

Supergirl, Season 1, Episode 10, “Childish Things”
Written by Anna Musky-Goldwyn & James DeWille
Directed by Jamie Babbit
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on CBS

Although the big villain-of-the-week is Toyman, the true center of the episode belongs to Winn and the lesson he learned from encountering his villainous father, which will in turn affect his relationship with Kara, changing their dynamic for future episodes.
The development of this story is presented well, albeit heavy-handedly. Having Kara relate to Winn by expressing how important he is to her both establishes the status quo of their relationship and reinforces their strong bond, so when Winn kisses Kara it raises the stakes.
