To say that Juno Temple is one of our favorite young actresses would be an understatement. In her brief career thus far, Temple has shown a knack for taking on challenging material and working with visionary directors, having chalked up time with folks like Gregg Araki, Noah Baumbach and Joe Wright. And in 2012 there is even more to come, with the actress starring in films from Christopher Nolan, William Friedkin and Jonas Akerlund among others. Before 2011 wrapped up, Temple played a lead in the indie dramedy "Dirty Girl," alongside an ace cast including Milla Jovovich, Dwight Yoakam, Mary Steenburgen and William H. Macy. If you missed it, we've got a second chance for you. The film tells the story of Danielle (Temple), the dirty girl of Norman High School in Norman, Oklahoma, circa 1987. Her reputation takes an unexpected hit when her misbehavior gets her banished to a remedial class, where...

Dirty Girl
Directed by: Abe Sylvia
Cast: Juno Temple, Jeremy Dozier, Milla Jovovich, Mary Steenburgen, William H. Macy
Running Time: 1 hr 30 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: October 7, 2011
Plot: In 1987 Danielle (Temple) is labelled the school’s “dirty girl.” She runs away to find her daddy and takes closeted gay Clarke and a bag of flour with her on her journey.
Who’S It For? Maybe, just maybe this movie will have some sort of effect on a troubled teen and wake them up, but then again they really shouldn’t be watching this R-rated flick.
Expectations: I had none. No one in the cast makes me truly excited, although I used to look forward to anything Macy was in.
Overall
Respect. It’s something that you earn. It is not just granted. Movies aren’t exempt from this thought. Dirty Girl doesn’t earn my respect. Neither does director Abe Sylvia.

"Dirty Girl" spins a tale many of us can relate to: how do you escape whatever reputation you've earned (rightfully or wrongly) at your high school and truly define yourself on your own terms. In the film -- set in 1987 -- a teenager named Danielle (delightfully played by future "Dark Knight Rises" star Juno Temple) has been pegged as the "school slut" and banished to special ed. Desperate to find herself away from the confines of her current existence, Danielle takes to the road with her closet case best friend Clarke (Jeremy Dozier), and engages on a cross-country escapade of discovering each other and themselves through a "funny and serendipitous friendship."

Dirty Girl is a candy-coated collection of ’80s hairstyles, pop tunes and other sparkly flourishes. Despite the best efforts of Juno Temple, who perfects her standard character — the sullen oversexed young woman — it’s a forced, facile effort. The film takes a premise with promise, in which the titular “dirty girl” (Temple) searches for her long-lost father, and flushes it away in a haze of standard road-trip silliness. It’d be hard to conceive of a movie more painstakingly comprised of dramatic filler than this one, in which nothing of consequence happens until the climax. Danielle and her shy study buddy Clarke (Jeremy Dozier) take off from Oklahoma for California, in the hope of finding the absentee paterfamilias who knows not of her existence. Both misfits are escaping unfortunate home situations: Danielle’s mom Sue-Anne (Milla Jovovich), a former “dirty girl” herself, wants to settle down with the domineering Mormon Ray (William H. Macy). Clarke has it...

The fall movie season, aka Oscar bait time, is in full swing. With The Ides of March leading the way, one of the best films of 2011 is on display. Not to be outdone, Disney has released a fantastically fun, cheer in your seat instant classic in Real Steel. So, what’s the "reel" deal with the movies of the week of October 7, 2011?
Real Steel: Hugh Jackman stars as a washed-up boxer who now is a promoter/trainer of robot boxers in the wildly popular world of the Robot Boxing Federation. At the beginning of the film, Jackman is down on his luck and has just discovered that his son whom he barely knows is now under his care as his mother just died. That father-son bonding experience is at the heart of Real Steel. But, the action is also fantastic as the robots move so effortlessly you would swear...

Nobody likes a dirty girl, but count me amongst the growing number who've fallen in love with "Dirty Girl," director Abe Sylvia's semi-autobiographical movie about two teenage outsiders — Danielle (Juno Temple), the promiscuous girl in school, and Clarke (newcomer Jeremy Dozier), a loner struggling to hide his homosexuality from his intolerant and increasingly suspicious father (Dwight Yoakim) — who forge an unlikely friendship and set out together on an impromptu road trip of self discovery.
Temple, soon to be seen in an unspecified role in "The Dark Knight Rises," swung by MTV News this week to talk about her work in "Dirty Girl." The actress turns in a dazzling performance as Danielle, someone who begins the movie as a ruthlessly mean-spirited, do-what-it-takes-to-get-your-way kind of gal, but slowly reveals herself to be someone else: a young girl looking to fill a hole in her heart.

Those walking into the indie "Dirty Girl" expecting something "dirty" will be sorely disappointed. What they'll get instead: a charming coming-of-age comedy backed by a standout leading turn from girl-on-the-rise Juno Temple.
So back to that title ... "Dirty Girl" centers on Danielle (Temple), a messed-up and promiscuous Oklahoma high school student in the 1980s who flaunts her assets -- and her potty mouth -- for the whole wide world to see. Danielle comes home one night to find out her divorced mother (Milla Jovovich) has gotten engaged to a Mormon (played by William H. Macy), so she sets off on a road trip along with her gay classmate Clarke (Jeremy Dozier) to Fresno, where she hopes to reunite with her birth father.
Even though the film marks a rookie effort for writer-director Abe Sylvia, The Weinstein Company picked it up out of last year's Toronto International Film Festival, where it had its world premiere.

Writer-director Abe Sylvia may have grown up in Norman, Oklahoma, in the 1980s, yet his film's Dirty Girl locale and time period of his youth are only the launching pad for his coming of age comedy that is equally as funny as it is fierce with drama. Although Sylvia took inspiration from his upbringing -- that much is sure -- the director has stressed the story is a work of fiction. But, when a filmmaker pours that much of his heart and soul into a movie, the results, based solely on effort, have to be pleasing. Dirty Girl is that and more and it begins with his cast.
Sylvia wrote and directed the film that follows Danielle (Juno Temple) and Clarke (Jeremy Dozier), two unlikely teenage friends who discover they have more in common than appears on the surface.

Before going into the nuts and bolts of Abe Sylvia's gay-meets-skank coming of age road trip story titled Dirty Girl, I would like to call to your attention the wonder of Juno Temple. Some of you may recognize her. Some of you may not. She is one of those actresses who you would probably refer to as "That actress in That movie" -- and by that, I am talking about her role in Atonement. She plays that one girl who gets raped in the woods by that one guy and then ends up marrying him. Remember?
In any event, Miss Temple has also been seen in under-the-radar cinematic fare such as Killer Joe with Emile Hirsch and a notable role in Gregg Araki's sexually charged film Kaboom. She also landed...

Writer/director Abe Sylvia makes his feature directorial debut with Dirty Girl, a film that doesn't live up to its title or marketing in terms of raunch, but is decent enough. Even if it is nothing more than an R-rated after school special.
Set in 1987, Juno Temple (Atonement, Killer Joe) stars as Danielle, the titular "dirty girl", a high schooler whose mouth lands her in a remedial class where she's paired up with Clarke (Jeremy Dozier), an overweight and gay quiet type with a homophobic father (Dwight Yoakum) threatening to send him to military school. The two are assigned a parenting project where they have to care for a bag of flour as if it were their child. Danielle is initially uninterested in playing any part in the project, but soon comes around once she realizes she won't be getting out of remedial class unless she shows some effort.

Writer-director Abe Sylvia grew up in Norman, Oklahoma in the mid-to-late 1980s -- the setting and time for Dirty Girl. Norman, Oklahoma, in 1987 is no place to be either an overweight gay teenage boy or a sexually permissive young lady with a come-hither stare and a candy-apple red Mustang. The stars of Dirty Girl, Juno Temple and Jeremy Dozier, sat down for an exclusive video interview with Movie Fanatic to talk about their heartfelt comedy that opens October 7.
The independent film takes place in Norman, Oklahoma, circa 1987 and comes from the mind of writer-director Abe Sylvia. A young star rapidly on the rise, Juno Temple takes the title role in Dirty Girl , opening in limited release this Friday. Written and directed by first time feature helmer Abe Sylvia, the film stars Temple as Danielle, a brash, loud-spoken, sexually promiscuous girl growing up in a small Oklahoma town in the late 1980s. The story inspired by real events in his life, Sylvia finds his autofictional self in Clark (Jeremy Dozier), a young gay teen and social outcast forced into shame by his homophobic parents. When Danielle and Clark are assigned to look after a bag of flour as a mock child for a class assignment, they form a unlikely bond that leads to them running away together (with their flour baby, Joan) on a road trip to find Danielle's real father in California. Temple...

If you're looking for a little unexpected sass at the movies on Friday you may want to check out Abe Sylvia's energetic debut "Dirty Girl." The coming of age story meets road trip premiered at last year's Toronto Film Festival and is finally hitting theaters this weekend in limited release. "Dirty Girl" stars Juno Temple ("Atonement," the upcoming "Dark Knight Rises") as Danielle, a sexy, sexually promiscuous, foul mouthed and generally misunderstand Norman, Oklahoma teenager who is in dire need of finding her long lost father. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she's thrown together with Clarke (newcomer Jeremy Dozier),...

The upcoming indie comedy "Dirty Girl" features Juno Temple as, well, the "dirty girl" of her small town high school in Oklahoma. Her character Danielle is paired up on a school project with Jeremy, a closeted gay kid with absolutely no friends played by Jeremy Dozier, and, instead of pursuing academics, the pair set off to chase the bigger answers in life. She's off to find her biological father; he's looking for a place where he can be accepted.
It's a touching story, and coming first time writer/director Abe Sylvia, a poignant meditation on what it is to grow up in an intolerant place. The message is that the world is so much bigger than a bigoted hometown, and that there's always a chance to find somewhere more accepting. It is a natural fit, then, for Sylvia and the cast to join author Dan Savage's "It Gets Better" project,...

Juno Temple has a memorable name, but that's not all that stands out when it comes to this beautiful young Brit with the incredible mane.
Her rising star is twinkling madly in both the UK and the U.S. as she gathers accolades from hot-shot directors and glossy magazines alike. Here's why this wild child is on our NextFactor radar.
Age: 22
Hometown: London
What She's Done: Highbrow fare like "Notes on a Scandal" and "Atonement" snuggle up to more edgy films like Gregg Araki's "Kaboom," "Cracks" and "Greenberg." She also played a beautiful cave girl in the big-screen bomb "Year One" with Jack Black and Michael Cera.
What She's Doing Now: In "Dirty Girl," Temple rocks out as Danielle, a small-town girl with a bad reputation. She recruits fellow outsider Clarke (Jeremy Dozier) to go on a road trip to find her real dad before her mom ("Musketeers...

For lack of a better term, Dirty Girl is a coming-of-age story about a girl named Danielle (Juno Temple) and a boy named Clarke (newcomer Jeremy Dozier) growing up in 1980s Oklahoma. Written and Directed by Abe Sylvia, it is at once hilarious, bawdy, nostalgic, heartbreaking, and will send you home bopping your head to the best tunes from Melissa Manchester. I met with Abe Sylvia to talk about his new work, and found him to be as charming and lively as the characters he carefully crafts in his new film Dirty Girl.
What were you like as a teenager? Were you at all like Clarke?
I’m similar in that I grew up in Oklahoma; I ate my feelings like Clarke did. I certainly felt alienated from the other kids,...

The most common Lgbt duo in entertainment is the gay guy-straight girl relationship – Will and Grace, Carrie Bradshaw and Stanford Blatch, Kurt and Rachel, Liza Minnelli and most of her husbands – the list goes on and on.
The somewhat indie film, Dirty Girl, which has been making the festival rounds for more than year and officially opens on October 7, tells the story of yet another such pairing with funny and heartfelt results.
It's the mid '80s in Norman, Oklahoma. Danielle (Juno Temple) is the high school "dirty girl" whose unrepentant, scandalous ways have landed her in a remedial class full of other outcasts, including an overweight, awkward, obviously gay boy named Clarke (Jeremy Dozier), who hides under his sweatshirt hood like a turtle permanently retreated inside its shell.
He's as introverted as she is extroverted and they're both misfits. Danielle and Clarke are soon paired up and charged with...

Who doesn’t love a big-screen bad girl? On October 7th, Juno Temple hits the big screen as Danielle in Dirty Girl, a sassy teen growing up in Oklahoma and a self-proclaimed whore. Living up to her bad reputation, Danielle convinces another school outcast Clarke (Jeremy Dozier) to steal his father's car with which the two make a mad dash to Los Angeles so Clarke can escape the ridicule and she can find her father. Most prefer to steer clear of firebrands like Danielle in real life, but on film they can be some of the most colorful people to spend time with. While Temple’s character isn’t nearly as ruthless and mean-spirited as some of these ladies, Dirty Girl is certainly an excellent excuse to look back at some awesome big-screen female baddies...

I'm going on record and predicting that 2012 will be the year Juno Temple becomes a star. Over the past decade, this young lady has been quietly moving up the ranks, crafting an impressive career by doing notable work in smart, small films like Notes on a Scandal and Gregg Araki's supercool Kaboom.
Temple will soon be kicking it up a notch by appearing in bigger, louder flicks like The Three Musketeers and The Dark Knight Rises. But before we see her engaging in Franco-steampunk swordplay or consorting with Catwoman in Gotham City, Temple is taking a trip to 1987 Oklahoma for Dirty Girl, Abe Sylvia's sassy, retro coming-of-age comedy.
As Danielle, a smart and stubborn Oklahoma teen, Temple takes center stage and trades her natural British accent for a convincing Southern drawl. Danielle is the prototypical bad girl who enjoys acting out and shocking the dolts that surround her.

"Danielle, nobody likes a dirty girl." Today's indie trailer via Apple is for something a little dirty, the indie Dirty Girl starring Juno Temple as, well, a dirty girl. It's actually a roadtrip coming-of-age movie, but it doesn't really seem like it, at least not really an interesting one. Despite starring the rather talented Juno Temple, as well as Milla Jovovich, William H. Macy, Mary Steenburgen, Dwight Yoakam and Jeremy Dozier, this doesn't look good at all. It received dismal reviews at Tiff last year, but it might interest or connect with a few of you, and I wanted to feature it anyway. Check it out if you think Juno Temple will impress you. Watch the Weinstein Company's official trailer for Abe Sylvia's Dirty Girl: You can also download the Dirty Girl trailer in High Definition on Apple It's 1987 and Danielle (Juno Temple), the 'dirty girl' of Norman High School in Oklahoma,...

In the mood for an 80’s-set teen comedy which features a lead performance from a talented and engaging up-and-coming British actress?
Here’s the trailer for Dirty Girl, the tale of a promiscuous teenager named Danielle (Juno Temple) who befriends a chubby, sexually-confused loner from her class (Jeremy Dozier) and embarks on a journey with him to find her father, who abandoned both her and her mother (Milla Jovovich – don’t you love the blatant ageism in Hollywood casting) years back.
Temple (daughter of music promo and features director, Julien) has been quietly making a name for herself over the pond for a couple of years now, and this role may be the one to finally put her firmly on the Hollywood map.
The film is due out on the 5th August in the Us. We’ll let you know when a UK release date is announced.

It's strange, how much I want to see Juno Temple succeed. I love her to death, even though I'm pretty sure I've only seen her in two movies. Yet those movie -- Cracks and Atonement -- were such a gorgeous, fascinating films, and she was simply perfect in them. She seems incredibly promising, and she's starting to garner attention -- she's been cast as Queen Anne in Paul W.S. Anderson's upcoming extravaganza of excess and revisionist history, The Three Musketeers, as well as in The Dark Knight Rises.
Dirty Girl, however, features her as the star. She plays a rebellious and promiscuous teenager in s stuffy Oklahoma town who befriends a different kind of school misfit (Jeremy Dozier), and the two embark on a road trip to find her father. It's got a remarkable supporting cast, including Milla Jovovich, William H. Macy, Mary Steenburgen, and Dwight Yoakam. The trailer doesn't blow me away,...
