Denmark has approved the launch of a tax incentive to lure international TV and films, joining the ranks of all other Nordic countries which each have a rebate program.
Denmark has been lagging behind other European countries such as France, Germany and Czech Republic due to its lack of tax incentive. In spite of its vibrant creative community and home to many critically acclaimed directors such as Susanne Bier, Lars van Trier, Nicolas Winding Refn and Thomas Vinterberg, Denmark is currently the only country in Europe, along with Luxembourg, to not have a rebate program in place.
The Danish incentive, which will kick off in 2026, will tap into an annual envelop of Dkk 125 million ($17.5 million) — twice the amount allocated to foreign productions in Sweden and significantly larger than in Norway. The rebate on eligible expenses is expected to be 25%.

Great storytelling can come from anywhere and anybody who says that animation is only for children, are in my opinion a bit stupid. The time when animated shows were only created for children’s entertainment is long gone and today we have great storytelling in animated form in both movies and TV shows. So, we thought of compiling a list of the best adult animated shows you can watch on Netflix right.

How Zack Snyder Made ‘Twilight of the Gods’ Into a 2D Animated Adult Fever Dream of Sex and Violence
For Zack Snyder, the 2D adult animated “Twilight of the Gods” series (currently streaming on Netflix) became his purest form of visual expression. In fact, his deep dive into Norse mythology was like a fever dream of sex and violence driven by the wild hand-crafted animation from French-based Xilam Animation.
“It was 100 percent like [a fever dream],” Snyder told IndieWire. “The amazing thing about it is the language of 2D adult animation fits so well within the context of Norse mythology, which is a bizarro world anyway. Digging down into it, you’re not going to break it with your own embellishments: We should have a sexy scene here, or we should have some gore here, or we should have some crazy relationships here. You can’t out-Norse it, right? So it was a really fun playground for me because I feel like my natural aesthetic is very close to what it was like reading Norse mythology.

Plot: After traveling to Jötunheimr in search of his brother Loki and finding the giants uncooperative, Thor lays waste to the entire population, save for the human-sized giant Sigrid and her fabled warrior lover, Leif. Together, they vow revenge against the gods, sparking a war that brings about the death of the Æsir and Vanir in the ultimate battle against evil.
Review: Have you ever watched superhero movies and thought, “Sure, those Norse gods seem cool, but I really expected them to be… I don’t know… bloodier?” Forget Chris Hemsworth’s jubilant quips and Mimir’s witticisms from Sony’s God of War: Ragnarok. The gods, born from humankind’s imaginations and stories, reflect our lust for power, carnal desires, and hubris. Whereas most of Hollywood’s portrayal of the gods offer tempered, toothless, and sanitized versions of literature’s all-powerful chess pieces made flesh, Twilight of Gods reminds us of how cruel,...

In the opening scene of Zack Snyder’s Twilight of the Gods, Leif Völsung (Stuart Martin) tells his men how he met his betrothed, Sigrid (Sylvia Hoeks). The animated series cuts to a kinetic depiction of the Norse king’s story. At the height of a battle on a wintry field, a warrior tears her way through an invading army and, with a feat of preternatural skill, saves Leif’s life. Before long, only the pair of newfound comrades remain standing, the snow beneath them marred by streaks of blood that resemble the scribbles of a giant.
Once the fighting concludes, Hans Zimmer’s spirited score turns to grim quiet, but that calm is cracked by a lightning bolt that heralds the arrival of a valkyrie, descended from the heavens to take the valiant dead to Valhalla. “As it left us, the valkyrie bowed,” Leif recalls. “To my Sigrid. And I knew love.

Netflix has shared the official trailer and key art for Zack Snyder’s Twilight of the Gods, which the streaming service describes as “an all-new daring and spectacular animated vision of Norse mythology.”
Consisting of eight episodes, the series will premiere on September 19, 2024.
In a mythical world of great battles, great deeds, and great despair, Leif, a mortal King, is saved on the battlefield by Sigrid, an iron-willed warrior with whom he falls in love.
On their wedding night, Sigrid and Leif survive a wrath of terror from Thor, which sets them – and a crew of crusaders – on an against-all-odds and merciless mission for vengeance.
This heroic story of love, loss, and revenge is a journey to Hell and beyond… across fantastical lands, battlefields fierce and bloody, and wars waged against Gods and demons.

Later this month, on September 19, Zack Snyder will unleash his new animated epic Twilight of the Gods on Netflix. The ultra-violent odyssey brings the filmmaker’s stylish sensibilities to the battlefield for a sprawling love story fueled by vengeance and a desire to see the gods face down in the snow. The latest Twilight of the Gods trailer tones down the violence from the red-band trailer to focus on the over-arching mission to make Thor, the God of Thunder, pay for massacring a maiden warrior’s family.

Netflix released the official trailer for “Twilight of the Gods,“ Zack Snyder’s 2D adult animated series about the clash between Norse gods and mortals (premiering September 19). The mythic tale of vengeance and power unfurls amidst an abundance of choreographic violence and gore.
It’s a tragic love story that begins with badass warrior Sigrid (Sylvia Hoeks) heroically saving the life of mortal king Leif (Stuart Martin) — in slow-mo, of course, with beautiful streaks of blood. But their wedding day is destroyed by Thor (Pilou Asbæk), who slaughters her family, sending Sigrid on a vengeful rampage. With Leif by her side, she forms a band of rebels to kill Thor, with the support of Paterson Loki (Paterson Joseph), who wants to take over the world of the gods.

After showing brief glimpses of Twilight of the Gods earlier this year, Netflix is offering a more extensive look at the animated series from Zack Snyder.
The streamer has released a full trailer for the series, which takes Norse mythology as its source material — featuring a vengeful, very much not Marvel-influenced Thor and a still-scheming Loki. The show centers on Sigrid (voiced by Sylvia Hoeks), a fierce warrior who saves King Leif (Stuart Martin) in battle. After they marry, the couple “survive a wrath of terror from Thor (Pilou Asbæk), which sets them and a crew of crusaders on an against-all-odds and merciless mission for vengeance,” per the show’s description. Watch the trailer below.
Snyder’s producing partner and wife, Deborah Snyder, told The Hollywood Reporter at a Netflix event in June that the streamer offered them creative freedom in making Twilight of the Gods: “We pitched them...

Norse gods and mortals clash in all their bloody glory in Zack Snyder’s 2D adult animated series, “Twilight of the Gods,” premiering on Netflix September 19. The streamer has released a red band teaser trailer that revels deliciously in all of the graphic gore.
The hardcore action-adventure, which looks like a cross between “300” and Cartoon Saloon’s “Wolfwalkers” on acid, is set against a love story between badass warrior Sigrid (Sylvia Hoeks) and mortal king Leif (Stuart Martin), whom she saves on the battlefield. However, their wedding day is tragically destroyed by Thor (Pilou Asbæk), causing Sigrid to go on a vengeful rampage.
The series (from The Stone Quarry and Xilam Animation) is co-created by Snyder, Jay Oliva, and Eric Carrasco, with Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Oliva executive producing. Snyder, Oliva, Tim Divar, Andrew Tamandl, and David Hartman direct the eight episodes.

“I am a mother of young kids but, boy, I hope I’m a very different kind of mother than Eva,” says Danish star Birgitte Hjort Sørensen about her character in the Danish psychological drama “Dark Horse,” showcased this week in Canneseries’ official competition.
The story about a mother-daughter toxic relationship, set against the backdrop of addiction, turns on 17-year-old Anna and her mother Eva who move back to Eva’s small provincial Danish town from Shanghai. Their abrupt arrival at Eva’s brother, who runs a veterinarian surgery, is awkward for everyone, as Eva has been silent for years, busy dragging her daughter around the world, in her restless pursuit of new adventures and relationships.
Soon, the unhealthy co-dependent and toxic relationship between Anna and the pill-popper Eva emerges. In an urge to fit in with her school friends and break free from her dominating mother, Anna takes risks.

One of the Nordic region’s biggest providers of premium series, Copenhagen-based REinvent International Sales, will make a splash at this week’s Canneseries festival and MipTV market.
For the second consecutive year, the sales, financing and packaging banner has two titles in competition: the Danish drama thriller “Dark Horse”, due to world premiere in the main competition, and the short form Swedish dramedy entry “Painkiller”, which initially bowed at the Göteborg Film Festival.
“Last year we had the Norwegian political drama “Power Play” which won best series, and the Swedish romantic dramedy “Out of Touch” in the short form section. Canneseries is a great platform to get the hype going on your series,” commented Helene Aurø, REinvent sales and marketing director.
Turning on this year’s competition candidates, Aurø points out that both “Dark Horse” and “Painkiller” deal with mother/daughter relationships.

In Danish political drama Borgen, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen plays a fearless journalist holding power to account. In real life, she’s been calling out government plans to tax streamers and suggesting tax incentives.
The actress has joined a chorus of voices from the Danish production and creative communities condemning Denmark’s proposed Cultural Contribution Act. Netflix and Danish broadcaster Dr are partnering to revive political drama Borgen after it was last on television in 2013.
Sidse Babett Knudsen will reprise her role as Danish politician Birgitte Nyborg in the new series, which is slated to premiere in 2022 on Dr before dropping on Netflix internationally.
Netflix has also secured the rights to the first three seasons of the BAFTA-winning show and is planning to launch them globally later this year.
Borgen will be produced by Sam Productions and will reunite its creative team, including creator Adam Price, who will pen Season 4. Birgitte Hjort Sørensen also returns as Katrine Fønsmark.
The new season follows Nyborg in her role as Foreign Minister, as well as her staff and the media tasked with covering her. Fønsmark was her head of press, but returns to journalism in the new season.

Hit political drama “Borgen” is not only gearing up for a fourth outing, but all seasons are coming to Netflix.
Following a deal between the streaming giant and Danish public broadcaster Dr, all three seasons of the show, which originally aired from 2010-2013, will land on Netflix later this year, followed by a new fourth season of the hit drama in 2022.
While terms of the co-production deal have not been disclosed, it is likely Netflix is contributing to some of the costs for the fourth season, and getting involved in the creative direction.
Dr revealed Wednesday that a new season will debut on the broadcaster, followed by a global premiere on Netflix. The show — which follows a centrist politician’s journey to become the first female Prime Minister of Denmark — reunites creator Adam Price as well as lead actresses Sidse Babett Knudsen as Birgitte Nyborg and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen as Katrine Fønsmark.

One of the worst fears “Game of Thrones” fans had going into the final season’s third episode, “The Long Night,” was that the Army of the Dead attacking Winterfell would include the resurrected zombie versions of such beloved characters as Kristian Nairn’s Hodor. While the writers fortunately did not go down that painful route, they did once discuss the potential for beloved dead characters to return as white walkers. Vanity Fair has published exclusive storyboards from the show’s main storyboard artist, William Simpson, that reveal there was a plan at some point in early development to revive dead characters and have them join the Army of the Dead.
Per Simpson’s art, the seventh season premiere “Dragonstone” was originally set to feature the zombie version of the dead wildling Karsi (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen). The character became a fan favorite after her appearance in the battle episode “Hardhome,...

The cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, and Juno Temple. High Fidelity is the best-selling novel by Nick Hornby that was adapted into the 2000 film starring John Cusack.
It is now being developed into a TV series with one major change: the lead role is being written for a woman.
Let's check out some of the other times that a woman stepped into a role originally created for a man.
1. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (Battlestar Galactica) When Ronald D. Moore's re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica announced that Starbuck was going to be a woman, there were many skeptics. Katee Sackhoff ultimately landed the role and quickly won over viewers with her powerful portrayal. 2. Lenny (Legion) Showrunner Noah Hawley first envisioned David's friend Lenny as a middle-aged man. Once he met Aubrey Plaza, Hawley rewrote the role so she could play it. 3. Jeri Hogarth (Marvel Netflix Universe) In adapting comic character Jeryn Hogarth for the Marvel/Netflix franchise, he became a she.

And he's got a little bit of high profile help in front of the camera as well in the form of Games Of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Borgen's Birgitte Hjort Sørensen. 3 Things centers in and around a hotel where the police are negotiating the terms of a witness protection deal with the prime suspect of a big money deposit robbery and an expert on explosives, Mikael (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). In order to agree to the deal Mikael demands three things from the police: that his former girlfriend is brought to him, that the police bring the contents...

Though it might seem like Liam Neeson has all claim to avenging a child in the “Taken” series, the Norwegian action black comedy “In Order of Disappearance” proves that there’s plenty more to be mined from such a premise. Described as a cross between “Fargo” and “Taken,” “In Order of Disappearance” follows snow plow diver Nils (Stellan Skarsgård) who discovers his son has died of a supposed heroin overdose. Knowing his son was not a drug addict, Nils starts his own investigation and discovers a local drug gang is behind the crime. Soon, Nils finds the killers and the gang’s leader, but not before being caught in the crossfire between the local and Serbian gangs. The film also stars Bruno Ganz (“The Wings of Desire”), Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (“Borgen”), Kristofer Hivju (“Game of Thrones”), and more. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below.

1970s-set rock and roll drama Vinyl won't return for a second season on HBO after all...
Well, this is unexpected. Back in February, the news broke that HBO had renewed its rock and roll drama Vinyl for a second season. Now, though, the network has gone back on that idea and cancelled the series altogether.
Collider reports that the initial plan had been to "retool" the show for season 2, and that showrunner Scott Z. Burns had begun working on a blueprint for Vinyl's second season. (Actual scriptwriting hadn't yet begun, it would seem.)
It doesn't seem like too much of a leap to suggest that this U-turn could be related to HBO's new chief Casey Bloys. It was his predecessor in the role - Michael Lombardo - that initially ordered season 2 of Vinyl.
Bloys seems to have different ideas about how the network should be run,...

Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger's new HBO drama looks and sounds great, but can Vinyl grow into more than just Mad Men: The Rock Years?
My favourite rock ’n’ roll conspiracy theory runs as follows. Punk rock, with its cheap Diy ethic, mistrust (and deliberate avoidance) of wealth and dismissal of the decadent excess of earlier rock bands was a deliberately nefarious creation of major music labels that had grown fearful of the growing power of artists and who found a clever way of redressing the balance so that they, the anonymous suits, remained in charge. A Sid Viscious, so the theory goes, would be far more biddable and less likely to demand a larger slice of the cake than a Neil Young or a Roger Waters.
Whether by deliberate policy or not, it’s certainly true that some of the business elements of the music industry were changing.

Booze, drugs, sex, and oh yeah, music. This winter, Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, and Terence Winter are taking audiences back to the '70s where personalities were as wild as the punk, glam, disco, and rock 'n roll that was coming out of New York City with "Vinyl." And an electric new trailer for the series is here. Bobby Cannavale swaggers in the lead role as Richie Finestra, who is looking to shake up the game in the record industry, even as it seems his personal habits, and professional problems are mounting around him. The actor is supported by a helluva ensemble including Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Juno Temple, Jack Quaid, James Jagger, and Paul Ben-Victor. This looks like a show that will rarely be lacking in energy.
