Best episodes lists often tend to be dominated, these days, by the flashy, format-breaking standalone installments that most great prestige programs seem to unveil once or twice per season.

Our list does, indeed, include a couple of those. We’ve got flashbacks, tonal detours and feature-length episodes that reframe everything we thought we understood about the season or the shows themselves. But we also have some a couple of premieres, a finale or two and just some darned good regular episodes representing the best that the shows have to offer, rather than trying out something new or different. We’ve got animation, documentary and foreign television, plus some comedies, some dramas and whatever The Bear is.

Please note that no matter what the headline here says, this isn’t precisely a “best episodes” list at all. If a show made either of our respective Top 10 lists, we deemed it ineligible...

The cast of Fight For My Way has been in some of the best, most popular K-dramas of 2024, and that is a perfect reminder to revisit the 2017 show. Starring Park Seo-joon, Kim Ji-won, Ahn Jae-hong, and Song Ha-yoon, Fight For My Way tells the story of four young adults trying to navigate life and love. Despite its simple premise, Fight For My Way became a fan favorite and is often listed as one of the best slice-of-life K-dramas. Not only did it have a fun story, but it also featured a promising cast of up-and-coming stars.

The fact that Fight For My Way continues to be included in the best K-dramas of all time lists seven years after its premiere speaks to how well-received the 2017 series was. While it had two love stories, one of which was a classic friends-to-lovers arc, Fight For My Way was much more than just a romance K-drama.

Top prizes at Busan’s Asia Contents Awards & Global Ott Awards today went to Wong Kar-wai’s first feature series Blossoms Shanghai and Coupang Play’s Boyhood.

Blossoms Shanghai won the Best Creative prize and the series’ Hu Ge won Best Lead Actor (Male). Coupang Play’s Boyhood won Best Ott Original.

Best Director went to Indonesian co-directors Kamila Andini and Ifa Isfansyah for Cigarette Girl.

Imperfect Us, the most nominated work at this year’s awards, received two prizes: Best Lead Actor (Female) for Ariel Lin and Best Original Song for Tanya Chua’s “Learn to Live Again.”

The newly-introduced People’s Choice Award went to Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hyeyoon from Lovely Runner after receiving approximately 600,000 votes from global viewers via Kinolights.

Netflix’s Mask Girl won Best Supporting Actor awards for both Ahn Jae-hong and Yeom Hye-ran.

Wong Kar-wai’s series debut “Blossoms Shanghai” won two of the top awards at the Busan International Film Festival‘s sixth annual Asia Contents Awards and Global Ott (streaming) Awards on Sunday. The Tencent Video Chinese series won best creative and best male lead actor for Hu Ge.

Kamila Andini and Ifa Isfansyah won best director for Indonesian Netflix series “Cigarette Girl.” The best female lead actor award went to Ariel Lin for Pts Taiwan’s “Imperfect Us.”

Coupang Play’s Korean show “Boyhood” won best Ott original. Salem Entertainment’s “1286” from Kazakhstan won the best Asian contents award.

Ahn Jaehong and Yeom Hye-ran won the male and female supporting actor awards respectively for Netflix’s Korean show “Mask Girl.” The best male acting newcomer award was shared by Chae Jong-heop for TBS Television’s Japanese show “Eye Love You” and Kim Yo-han for Netflix’s Korean series “A Killer Paradox.

“Squid Game” star Lee Jung-jae was among the Korean celebrities to lead out a red carpet parade on the opening night of the 29th edition of the Busan International Film Festival. The festival kicked off Wednesday with a bright show of international solidarity and a spectacular, if controversial, Korean film from Netflix.

The ceremony, held under the semi-open roof of the futuristic Busan Cinema Center, was buoyant and attended by 4,500 guests, masking some the woes incurred by the festival itself and by the wider Korean film industry.
