Nielsen Soundscan revealed that in the first six months of 2012, catalogue records (albums released over 18 months ago) have outsold current LPs. The best rock record of 2012 is not some overwrought, double-disc affair, nor was it presided over by a studio pro like Rick Rubin or Butch Vig, and it doesn't contain a single instance of dubstep. Rather, it is an eight-song, 35-minute fist-pumper called Celebration Rock, the second (barely) full-length from Japandroids, a pair of unassuming everydudes from Vancouver.

And what Celebration Rock lacks in general grandiosity, it more than makes up for in sheer sonic wallop, featuring thundering drums, rousing riffs and more top-volume "Woah-oh-ohs!" than any record in recent memory. Much like the duo that made it, the record is a brazenly blue-collar, proudly scruffy thing, a revelatory, celebratory disc that seems tailor-made for beery, cheery sing-alongs and all manner of drunken debauchery.

Axl Rose was robbed of $200,000 in jewelry after a Guns N' Roses concert in Paris on Tuesday. The thief reportedly made off with three of the legendary frontman's gold-and-diamond necklaces.

A Paris police spokesman said that the theft occurred during a private gathering after the band's show at the city's Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy stadium. An investigation into the incident has been opened by police, who report Rose did not appear to be wearing the necklaces when the theft occurred.

Sir Elton John has lashed out at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame officials for failing to induct Donna Summer earlier this year, branding the snub a "total disgrace".

The I Feel Love hitmaker was shortlisted for the honour as part of the class of 2012, but she was overlooked in favour of artists like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donovan, Beastie Boys and Guns N' Roses - and the Rocket Man is angry his good friend Summer, who died on Thursday, was left out.

Paying tribute to the late star in a statement to Eonline.com, Sir Elton says: "I'm so sad. This woman was the queen of disco and so much more. Her records sound as good today as they ever did.

The Beastie Boys and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame have one major thing in common: they both hit the big time in 1986. That was the year the former released its first full-length album, "Licensed to Ill," and the latter inducted its first honorees, including Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and James Brown.

Twenty-six years later, in a ceremony that will be broadcast on HBO this Saturday, May 5, at 9 p.m. Et/Pt, the Beastie Boys became just the third rap group to enter the Hall, after Run-d.M.C. (2009) and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (2007). They were joined by fellow new inductees Laura Nyro, Donovan, The Faces, Guns N' Roses and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, to name a few.
