ABC’s High Potential ended its breakout first season on a high note. The February 11 season finale of the light procedural starring Kaitlin Olson, which already has been renewed for Season 2, hit series highs in total viewers (13.2 million – tied) and adults 18-49 (2.59 rating) after seven days of viewing on ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+ and digital platforms as well as a series high on streaming, becoming ABC’s most watched drama episode ever, based on 7-day views on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

On linear, the High Potential Season 1 finale topped Tuesday night across broadcast and cable for the second straight week among total viewers (8.7 million) and adults 18-49 (0.76 rating), logging the largest viewer advantage over CBS’ flagship drama FBI (+9% vs. 8 million) for any Tuesday scripted series in over six years – since NBC’s This Is Us did it on January 22, 2019.

Agatha All Along and WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer is taking on another Disney+ project.

Schaeffer will direct the pilot episode of the streamer’s upcoming gender-swapped Holes television series, Deadline has confirmed.

The adaptation of Louis Sachar’s 1998 novel was announced in January, reimagining the story with a female lead.

Written by Alina Mankin with Liz Phang as showrunner, Holes the series centers on a teenage girl who is sent to a detention camp where the ruthless Warden forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose.

Phang and Mankin executive produce with Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg of Goddard Textiles; the movie’s producer Mike Medavoy; Walden Media, which was behind the 2003 feature; as well as rights holder Shamrock. 20th Television, where Goddard is under a first-look deal, is the studio.

Schaeffer is represented by Curate, CAA, and attorney Erik Hyman.

Variety was first to report the news of Schaeffer’s directing role.

The new “Holes” TV series has filled in a key role: Jac Schaeffer, creator of the Marvel Studios series “WandaVision” and “Agatha All Along,” will direct the pilot episode for the Disney+ production, Variety has learned exclusively.

Disney Branded Television ordered the show to pilot in January (as first reported by Variety), with Alina Mankin serving as writer and executive producer and Liz Phang serving as showrunner and executive producer. The logline for this adaptation of Louis Sachar’s 1998 book shifts the story to focus on a teenage girl, who “is sent to a detention camp where the ruthless Warden forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose.”

As well as serving as showrunner and executive producer on “Agatha All Along,” Schaeffer directed Episodes 1, 2, and 7 of the show, the latter of which especially won wide acclaim last fall for its complex, time-hopping structure and performance showcase for costar Patti LuPone.

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is literally “Born Again” for Disney+ after the Netflix version of the series ended six years ago. The new version is canon to the MCU while keeping the majority of storylines of its earlier version intact. Cox returns to take on the character, who is the blind lawyer Matt Murdock by day and vigilante Daredevil by night.

The Netflix version was known for its raw depiction and it was darker than other Marvel projects of the time. My initial doubt for the series was whether Disney+ would keep the rawness of the story and setting in the new version of the series. The makers of Daredevil: Born Again have now hinted that it will be even more brutal than the earlier version.

Sometimes, you have to fall before you can fly. Well, High Potential is basically the definition of that—except Morgan keeps tripping over her own feet and somehow still manages to soar. Season one dropped us headfirst into her messy, beautiful disaster of a life. And every time we thought we had a grip on things, the show pulled the rug out from under us faster than a toddler on a sugar rush.

Just when you think Morgan’s life can’t get any more chaotic—bam—the season finale hits us with a cliffhanger that nearly gave us whiplash. Roman’s alive?! Seriously, we’re still clutching our pearls!

ABC has handed an early Season 2 renewal to its breakout new crime drama High Potential. The light procedural starring Kaitlin Olson joins ABC’s flagship comedy Abbott Elementary in securing a spot on the network’s 2025-26 schedule. High Potential also joins the other standout 2024-25 freshman drama, CBS’ Matlock, in landing an early Season 2 renewal. Both were series originally ordered for last season but delayed due of the strikes.

The size of High Potential‘s Season 2 order is Tbd but is expected to be larger than Season 1, which consists of 13 episodes. Because of the show’s atypical production schedule and Olson’s commitment to her other series regular job on FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, filming on Season 1 had to wrap after its initial 13-episode order.

Kaitlin Olson will return to screens as Morgan in a second season of “High Potential.”

ABC has granted a Season 2 renewal to “High Potential” for the 2025-26 broadcast season, the network announced Tuesday. The news comes on the heels of the network renewing “Abbott Elementary” for a fifth season.

In “High Potential,” Olson, who can also be seen in Max’s “Hacks” and Fxx’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” stars as Morgan, a single mom with a unique knack for solving crimes. When her talent is noticed by the LAPD during a janitorial shift, Morgan is asked to join the force as a consultant where solving crimes becomes her everyday gig.

After “High Potential” left on a tense fall finale, the show’s winter return on Jan. 7 became the show’s highest-rated episode ever among both total viewers and in the key broadcast demo among adults 18-49, according to Nielsen live-plus-seven-day multiplatform viewing figures,...

The network has renewed the Kaitlin Olson-led drama for a second season in 2025-26. High Potential has been a breakout for ABC, ranking among the top first-year series of 2024-25 so far and drawing strong streaming numbers in addition to its on-air ratings.

The first two episodes of the series averaged better than 10 million cross-platform viewers after seven days, with streaming making up more than a third of that total. ABC says the pilot episode’s audience has grown to more than 30 million in the four months since it debuted.

Directed by Joe Dante from Columbus’s script, Gremlins had the following synopsis: A gadget salesman is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one at a store in Chinatown.

Can you believe it’s been 35 years since a Gremlins movie rampaged up on the big screen? Rumours of a reboot or spin-off have persisted for years, and while we don't know which category this one will fall into, this could mark a return to form for the franchise.

Disney+ is bringing Holes back to life with a new TV series adaptation, and the project has officially been ordered to pilot. The series will reimagine Louis Sachar’s beloved 1998 novel, but this time, it introduces a fresh twist by centering the story around a teenage girl.

Like the original, the new protagonist finds herself at a detention camp where the Warden forces campers to dig mysterious holes in the desert.

The original book followed Stanley Yelnats, a boy sent to Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn’t commit. Over time, Stanley uncovers his family’s deep connection to the camp and its secrets. Published in 1998, the novel became a massive success, winning the National Book Award and the Newbery Medal, and selling millions of copies worldwide.

Sachar also penned a sequel, Small Steps, and a companion book, Stanley Yelnats’ Survival Guide to Camp Green Lake.

Louis Sachar’s beloved book Holes is getting the Disney treatment once again, this time for a Disney+ series.

There’s a lot of affection for 2003’s Holes, the Andrew Davis-directed Disney film that adapted Louis Sachar’s 1998 novel. It’s a charming adventure, based on a novel that fits satisfyingly together like a Swiss watch.

It also features great villainous turns from no less than Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight and Tim Blake Nelson. You’ll also find a wide-eyed, young Shia Lebeouf before his career swerved into controversy and accusations of extending method acting to not washing on set (during the making of Fury).

As Morgan and Karadec’s professional and personal relationship continues to grow on “High Potential,” Daniel Sunjata revealed Karadec’s feelings for Morgan are gradually “beginning to percolate.”

“He probably does [have feelings for Morgan], but I think they are in embryo, as it were,” Sunjata told TheWrap. “I don’t think he’s consciously aware of it, but I think that there is something that’s beginning to percolate.”

The duo’s relationship deepens in Episode 8 of “High Potential,” when Karadec reveals to Morgan that a painting in his apartment was a gift from his ex-fiancé prior to their engagement being broken off due to Karadec being more “more married to his work than he ever could be to to a romantic partnership.” Morgan shares her own struggles in starting a relationship with Tom (Jd Pardo), leading to Sunjata’s favorite moment in the episode.

It's been nearly a year since we first learned of plans for Drew Goddard to write and direct a new Matrix movie. Rumours of a reboot or spin-off have persisted for years (the prequel starring Michael B. Jordan as a young Morpheus never came to fruition) but we've heard very little about this effort since it was announced by Warner Bros. Discovery.

Goddard, best known for writing The Martian and directing The Cabin in the Woods (he also worked on Netflix's Daredevil and the unmade Sinister Six movie for Sony Pictures), will have a helping hand from franchise co-creator Lana Wachowski who has boarded the project as an executive producer.

Disney+ has ordered to pilot a series based on the acclaimed book from Louis Sachar, “Holes,” an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire. The project will be a new take on the story, this time gender-swapping the characters to make it about a teen girl sent to the desert to toil away in the dirt.

The Disney+ series will be a project of 20th Century Television’s and will be executive produced by Drew Goddard via his Goddard Textiles banner, with Alina Mankin serving as writer and EP and Liz Phang serving as showrunner and EP.

Phang and Mankin executive produce with Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg of Goddard Textiles; the movie’s producer Mike Medavoy; Walden Media, which was behind the 2003 feature; as well as rights holder Shamrock. 20th Television, where Goddard is under a first-look deal, is the studio.

Drew Goddard didn’t have any designs on returning to broadcast. But then ABC asked him to take a look at the French-Belgian series “Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (Hpi)” — and it immediately inspired to turn it into the Alphabet primetime procedural “High Potential.”

“The last thing I wanted to do at that time was go back to network television,” Goddard says. “Not because I have any disdain for network television. It’s just, I know what a grind and how hard network television is. And yet when I saw the show, I thought, ‘Oh, that’s pretty special. That approach feels very unique.’ Putting the single mom in the center of the police procedural felt necessary to right now, and more importantly, I just couldn’t stop thinking about it.”

The potential show would be based on the book of the same name by Louis Sachar, which was previously adapted into a 2003 feature film by Walt Disney Pictures.

Alina Mankin serves as writer and executive producer, while Liz Phang will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Drew Goddard will executive produce via Goddard Textiles along with Sarah Esberg. Walden Media, which produced the film, is also producing the pilot and has been attempting to get a series version of the book off the ground for some time, according to sources. Mike Medavoy will executive produce with rights holder Shamrock executive producing. Andrea Massaro of Goddard Textiles is a co-executive producer. 20th Television, where Goddard is based, is the studio.
