Disney+ is bringing Holes back to the screen with a fresh twist, and they’ve tapped WandaVision and Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer to direct the pilot episode. This new adaptation of Louis Sachar’s beloved 1998 young adult novel will feature a gender-swapped lead, offering a new perspective on the classic tale.
The original Holes novel follows Stanley Yelnats, a boy who is wrongfully sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention center where boys are forced to dig holes under the scorching sun. Though the camp claims this builds character, Stanley soon realizes they’re actually searching for something buried beneath the dried-up lake. The story weaves themes of fate, friendship, and redemption, making it a favorite among readers for decades.

The new “Holes” TV series has filled in a key role: Jac Schaeffer, creator of the Marvel Studios series “WandaVision” and “Agatha All Along,” will direct the pilot episode for the Disney+ production, Variety has learned exclusively.
Disney Branded Television ordered the show to pilot in January (as first reported by Variety), with Alina Mankin serving as writer and executive producer and Liz Phang serving as showrunner and executive producer. The logline for this adaptation of Louis Sachar’s 1998 book shifts the story to focus on a teenage girl, who “is sent to a detention camp where the ruthless Warden forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose.”
As well as serving as showrunner and executive producer on “Agatha All Along,” Schaeffer directed Episodes 1, 2, and 7 of the show, the latter of which especially won wide acclaim last fall for its complex, time-hopping structure and performance showcase for costar Patti LuPone.

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is literally “Born Again” for Disney+ after the Netflix version of the series ended six years ago. The new version is canon to the MCU while keeping the majority of storylines of its earlier version intact. Cox returns to take on the character, who is the blind lawyer Matt Murdock by day and vigilante Daredevil by night.

The Netflix version was known for its raw depiction and it was darker than other Marvel projects of the time. My initial doubt for the series was whether Disney+ would keep the rawness of the story and setting in the new version of the series. The makers of Daredevil: Born Again have now hinted that it will be even more brutal than the earlier version.

Sometimes, you have to fall before you can fly. Well, High Potential is basically the definition of that—except Morgan keeps tripping over her own feet and somehow still manages to soar. Season one dropped us headfirst into her messy, beautiful disaster of a life. And every time we thought we had a grip on things, the show pulled the rug out from under us faster than a toddler on a sugar rush.
Just when you think Morgan’s life can’t get any more chaotic—bam—the season finale hits us with a cliffhanger that nearly gave us whiplash. Roman’s alive?! Seriously, we’re still clutching our pearls!

Seriously? What in the world is happening here? Honestly, we’re just trying to figure out if we’re watching a show or some twisted version of a game night gone wrong.

Ke Huy Quan’s first time out as a leading man is currently in theaters for a twist on the upcoming Valentine’s Day usual programming, but while the newly revived Academy Award-winner makes the promotional rounds, he inevitably fields questions about a possible Goonies sequel, especially powered by not just one reunion with Sean Astin in Love Hurts, but his former co-stars would celebrate him as he got his hand and feet imprints installed at the famed Tcl Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.
Quan would already say that he “would love for it to happen” in regards to a Goonies sequel, but he now tells Collider that the cast is ready to jump on the ship with him. The Everything Everywhere All At Once star explained,
That’s on all of our minds. I’ve spoken to everybody, and especially our head Goonie, Steven Spielberg, who also wants to do one.

ABC has handed an early Season 2 renewal to its breakout new crime drama High Potential. After “High Potential” left on a tense fall finale, the show’s winter return on Jan. 7 became the show’s highest-rated episode ever among both total viewers and in the key broadcast demo among adults 18-49, according to Nielsen live-plus-seven-day multiplatform viewing figures,...

After living up to its, uh, potential through the first half of this season, ABC’s High Potential is getting a second.
The network has renewed the Kaitlin Olson-led drama for a second season in 2025-26. High Potential has been a breakout for ABC, ranking among the top first-year series of 2024-25 so far and drawing strong streaming numbers in addition to its on-air ratings.
The first two episodes of the series averaged better than 10 million cross-platform viewers after seven days, with streaming making up more than a third of that total. ABC says the pilot episode’s audience has grown to more than 30 million in the four months since it debuted.
High Potential has taken off since moving from 10 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays earlier this month, averaging 5.74 million same-day viewers (vs. 3.48 million at the later time last fall). The Jan. 7 installment drew a series high of 12.9 million viewers...

ScreenRant is proud to present an exclusive sneak peek of High Potential season 1, episode 10, "Chutes and Murders." Airing on ABC on Tuesday, January 21 at 9 p.m. Et, the new installment will see Morgan and Karadec investigate a particularly bizarre murder scene. The official synopsis reads: "A nanny is found bludgeoned to death in the park. Elsewhere, Morgan interferes when Elliot admits to not being invited to his classmate’s party."
The clip opens with Morgan trying to convince Karadec to taste her sandwich at the diner, while the detective emphasizes the importance of being discreet during their stakeout. In typical Morgan fashion, she counters his reprimand with humor, and he appears unamused. Before the banter can go any further, Karadec spots their suspect buying a newspaper across the street. Check out ScreenRant's full sneak peek above.

Warner Bros is reportedly in the early stages of developing new Goonies and Gremlins films, according to a new report.
The Goonies is a seminal 80s film. About a group of kids hunting for lost treasure, it’s a classic adventure whose popularity shows no signs of abating. Gremlins – technically a Christmas film, for those who enjoy such debates – and its sequel A New Batch are favourites too. The original was controversial on release for being marketed more as a family film than the dark comedy it actually was.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros has a huge number of films on its slate, but hidden among the sequels and reboots which have already been announced is a brief mention of new films in the Goonies and Gremlins franchises. The full quote reads as follows:
‘Franchise hopes abound down the road in Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Practical Magic 2,...

Since The Terminator’s monumental success, the concept of robots going rogue has been a mainstay in the realm of sci-fi. In 2010, it was announced that Steven Spielberg was set to adapt Daniel H. Wilson’s Robopocalypse, which took an experimental approach to this sci-fi trope. While the best-seller tackled a similar subject of robots going rogue, it was the book’s narrative structure that caught the eyes of many.

Moreover, even before the book was published, Spielberg was on board to direct an adaptation, based on a screenplay by Drew Goddard, which would’ve starred Anne Hathaway and Chris Hemsworth.

Best known these days for directing Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter movies, Chris Columbus was also the screenwriter behind two enduring ’80s classics: Gremlins and The Goonies, both of which were released by Warner Bros. and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. Now, according to a new report on Deadline, Warner Bros. is developing new Gremlins and The Goonies films, with Columbus attached to at least one of those projects.
Deadline wrote that, at Warner Bros., “Franchise hopes abound down the road in Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Practical Magic 2, DC’s Clayface and Supergirl, Drew Goddard’s incoming script for a new Matrix, a new Gremlins from Christopher Columbus and a Goonies treatment.”
Directed by Joe Dante from Columbus’s script, Gremlins had the following synopsis: A gadget salesman is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one at a store in Chinatown.

Can you believe it’s been 35 years since a Gremlins movie rampaged up on the big screen? That movie was of course Joe Dante’s bonkers 1990 sequel to the 1984 classic, with the franchise more recently returning to life with two seasons of an animated prequel series: “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai” in 2022 and follow-up “Gremlins: The Wild Batch” last year.
But is the animated series setting the stage for a return of the Gremlins to live action? According to a new article from Deadline today that takes an expansive look at Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s near future plans, a new Gremlins movie may indeed be coming soon.

Last April, we learned that The Martian writer and The Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard had been tapped to helm a new Matrix movie for Warner Bros. Discovery.
Rumours of a reboot or spin-off have persisted for years, and while we don't know which category this one will fall into, this could mark a return to form for the franchise.
The Matrix was released in 1999 to widespread acclaim, with The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions following in 2003. They didn't receive anywhere near as warm a response as the original, and Lana returned to the property (minus Lilly) in 2021 for The Matrix Resurrections. That once again struggled to strike a chord with fans and was widely deemed a disappointment.
There's currently no word on whether original Matrix leads Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne-Moss, Laurence Fishburne, and Hugo Weaving will be involved in any way, but a new rumour claims...

Last April, we heard the exciting news: Drew Goddard, known for The Martian and The Cabin in the Woods, was chosen to direct a new Matrix film for Warner Bros. Discovery. Fans have speculated about a reboot or spin-off for years, and this project might finally deliver.
The original Matrix movie, released in 1999, was a massive hit. Its sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, both came out in 2003 but didn’t capture the same enthusiasm. In 2021, Lana Wachowski returned (without Lilly) to direct The Matrix Resurrections, but it also struggled with fans.
We still don’t know if original stars like Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, or Hugo Weaving will join this new venture. However, a rumor from @MyTimeToShineH (via the Sff Gazette) suggests that Ariana Grande could be one of the leads in Goddard’s Matrix. This would be a big leap for Grande, especially after her praised role in Wicked.

High Potential's Daniel Sunjata addresses the dynamic between Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) and his character Detective Karadec following the midseason premiere, which sparked more intrigue about their relationship. Created by Drew Goddard, the procedural series follows the story of the unlikely partnership between Karadec, a methodical detective, and Morgan, an eccentric single mother with an Iq of 160 and a knack for solving murders. Although High Potential has just returned from its midseason break, the series is already a massive success for ABC, breaking viewership records and earning a fresh 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Sunjata shared his thoughts on Karadec and Morgan's relationship and pointed out the complexities of their growing partnership. In the midseason premiere, it seems that Karadec gets a little weird when Morgan mentions Tom (Jd Pardo), the police station janitor who seems to be a potential love interest. Disney+ is bringing Holes back to life with a new TV series adaptation, and the project has officially been ordered to pilot. The series will reimagine Louis Sachar’s beloved 1998 novel, but this time, it introduces a fresh twist by centering the story around a teenage girl.
Like the original, the new protagonist finds herself at a detention camp where the Warden forces campers to dig mysterious holes in the desert.
The original book followed Stanley Yelnats, a boy sent to Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn’t commit. Over time, Stanley uncovers his family’s deep connection to the camp and its secrets. Published in 1998, the novel became a massive success, winning the National Book Award and the Newbery Medal, and selling millions of copies worldwide.
Sachar also penned a sequel, Small Steps, and a companion book, Stanley Yelnats’ Survival Guide to Camp Green Lake.

Louis Sachar’s beloved book Holes is getting the Disney treatment once again, this time for a Disney+ series.
There’s a lot of affection for 2003’s Holes, the Andrew Davis-directed Disney film that adapted Louis Sachar’s 1998 novel. It’s a charming adventure, based on a novel that fits satisfyingly together like a Swiss watch.
It also features great villainous turns from no less than Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight and Tim Blake Nelson. You’ll also find a wide-eyed, young Shia Lebeouf before his career swerved into controversy and accusations of extending method acting to not washing on set (during the making of Fury).
As the House of Mouse loves to do, Disney is once again mining its back catalogue and reviving Holes for a new generation. Thankfully, it’s not making another movie – because a perfectly good one already exists – and so instead, we’re getting Sachar...

It's been nearly a year since we first learned of plans for Drew Goddard to write and direct a new Matrix movie. Rumours of a reboot or spin-off have persisted for years (the prequel starring Michael B. Jordan as a young Morpheus never came to fruition) but we've heard very little about this effort since it was announced by Warner Bros. Discovery.
Goddard, best known for writing The Martian and directing The Cabin in the Woods (he also worked on Netflix's Daredevil and the unmade Sinister Six movie for Sony Pictures), will have a helping hand from franchise co-creator Lana Wachowski who has boarded the project as an executive producer.
Yesterday, Will Smith shared a cryptic Instagram post addressing his now-infamous decision to pass on the role of Neo in 1999's The Matrix to instead star in Wild Wild West.

Drew Goddard didn’t have any designs on returning to broadcast. But then ABC asked him to take a look at the French-Belgian series “Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (Hpi)” — and it immediately inspired to turn it into the Alphabet primetime procedural “High Potential.”
“The last thing I wanted to do at that time was go back to network television,” Goddard says. “Not because I have any disdain for network television. It’s just, I know what a grind and how hard network television is. And yet when I saw the show, I thought, ‘Oh, that’s pretty special. That approach feels very unique.’ Putting the single mom in the center of the police procedural felt necessary to right now, and more importantly, I just couldn’t stop thinking about it.”
And it’s a good thing he followed that gut instinct. “High Potential,” which stars Kaitlin Olson as a single mom...

Will Smith has taken to social media to obliquely suggest that he might be starring in The Matrix 5 – 25 years after turning the original film down.
Will Smith famously turned down the chance to star as Neo in the original trilogy of Matrix films which began in 1999. The Matrix was a mind-bending cyberpunk adventure that would eventually star Keanu Reeves instead, becoming an all-time classic. While the sequels may not have lived up to the promise of that first film, The Matrix endures, and Smith’s decision to appear instead in Wild Wild West goes down as one of those legendary career missteps.
Of course, Smith is no stranger to career missteps, having committed perhaps the most high-profile one of that last couple of decades. His career is still recovering from that Oscars slap, but last year’s Bad Boys: Ride Or Die seemed to prove that audiences are more than...
