Nicole Kidman starred in Frank Oz’s version of The Stepford Wives in 2004, so it’s understandable why she wouldn’t tolerate living another picture-perfect life that rots from the inside out. It’s taken years of development, but a trailer for Kidman’s new Hitchcokian thriller, Holland, is here. The film finds Kidman’s character, Nancy Vandergroot, living a cookie-cutter lifestyle as a school teacher in Holland, Michigan, where quaint interactions, dancing, and frivolity reign. However, it is not as it seems after Nancy uncovers a dark secret that threatens the safety of her routine lifestyle.
The plot for Holland is a wild one. It “involves secrets that lurk beneath a Midwestern town with a Hitchcock bent.” According to the film’s description, a dark secret causes Nancy’s life in Holland, Michigan, to unravel. “It may seem like we have everything together, but right under that surface, it...

Oprah Winfrey has set the topic for her next ABC special — what she calls “the inevitable phase of life every woman will face: menopause.”

It will feature Winfrey speaking with medical experts, celebrities — including Halle Berry, Naomi Watts and Maria Shriver — and everyday women about their experiences with perimenopause and menopause.
“When I was around 48 years old, I thought I was dying and went from doctor to doctor trying to understand why my heart was racing, and did not receive any answers until I picked up a book and read how heart palpitations can be a symptom indicating a change is coming to your body,” said Winfrey. “This show starts the revolution of answers for millions of women throughout this country. It's become a fun pub trivia act to be able to rattle off the legion of beloved performers who got their start on the big screen by acting in horror movies. It's less common, however, to learn about actors famous for their roles in horror films pivoting to directing and nabbing an Academy Award nomination for Best Director in the process. But that's precisely what happened with Brady Corbet, the director behind one of the frontrunners for Best Picture (at the time of writing) and a film that /Film's Chris Evangelista called "an overwhelming triumph" in his review, "The Brutalist."
Corbet, for those not familiar, made his feature directorial debut in 2015 with "The Childhood of a Leader." Loosely adapted from Jean-Paul Sartre's short story of the same name, the film centers on an American boy living in France with his authoritarian parents during the Treaty of Versailles and explores...

"Captain America: Brave New World" doesn't just stick a sequel tease in its end credits, it also includes a "special thanks" to a beloved actor. Is it star Anthony Mackie, or the "Brave New World" Mvp Harrison Ford? Nope, it's someone who doesn't even star in the film. Any guesses?
It's Octavia Spencer, who starred in "Captain America 4" director Julius Onah's previous film "Luce." Speaking to People magazine, Onah revealed why he thanked Spencer alongside his actual family and the Stan Lee Foundation. According to Onah, he may not have directed the movie if she hadn't helped him out. He explained:

"I could feel him missing Walter in the same way I did." Bleecker Street has revealed an official trailer for The Friend, one of the best dog movies ever made, based on the book. Directed by Scott McGehee & David Siegel, The Friend first premiered at the 2024 TIFF & NYFF festivals last fall to mostly positive reviews (I loved it). Adapted from the bestselling novel also titled "The Friend" by Sigrid Nunez, it's a story about love, friendship, grief and healing, following a writer who adopts a Great Dane that belonged to a late friend and mentor. Naomi Watts stars as Iris, who takes in this massive, 150lbs Great Dane named Apollo (played by a real doggie named Bing). He immediately creates practical problems for Iris, from furniture destruction to eviction notices, as well as more existential ones, his looming presence constantly reminding her of her friend's problematic choices in both life and death.

The Friend received strong reviews out of its Telluride Film Festival debut last year, further building its reputation at TIFF. It was here that word grew enough that it seemed a sure thing it would get a respectable release. And after Bleecker Street nabbed the rights, it was on its way to 2025. It flew a bit under the radar there for a while but now, ahead of its debut in a couple of months, we have the first trailer.
Here is the official synopsis, as per Bleecker Street, who will be distributing the drama: “In The Friend, adapted from the bestselling novel, Iris (Naomi Watts) finds her comfortable New York life upended when her friend and mentor Walter (Bill Murray) bequeaths her his Great Dane, Apollo. The regal yet intractable beast is a constant reminder of Walter and causes various problems— yet as Iris bonds with Apollo, she begins to cope with her past,...

Naomi Watts grapples with grief and becomes a dog caretaker in the first trailer for The Friend. On Tuesday, Bleecker Street released the clip for the upcoming film, which poignantly captures Watts dealing with the loss of a good friend, played by Bill Murray, as she adopts his pet Great Dane.
The trailer opens with Murray asking: “What’s going to happen to the dog?” The trailer devolves into Watts’ character having to take in the Great Dane following Walter’s death, since it was what he wanted when he died.

In the trailer for The Friend, the emotional support animal comes in a large package.
Based on the Sigrid Nunez novel, The Friend follows Iris (Naomi Watts), a writer and teacher, who is grieving the loss of her friend and mentor Walter (Bill Murray) when she learns that he has left her his dog, a Great Dane named Apollo.
“What’s going to happen to the dog,” Murray’s Walter asks in the trailer. After taking in the dog, Watts’ Iris has to contend with the realities of having a new massive companion in a New York City, where Apollo destroys her apartment, takes over her bed and drags her down city sidewalks. All the while, she continues to work through the loss of her friend.
Scott McGhee and David Siegel directed and adapted the book for the screen. Constance Wu, Carla Gugino and Ann Dowd star alongside Watts and Murray.

The Room Next Door wasn’t the only Sigrid Nunez adaptation to premiere at fall festivals last year. David Siegel and Scott McGehee’s Montana Story follow-up The Friend finds Naomi Watts as a woman in NYC who looks after the dog of her friend (Bill Murray) after he passes away. The Telluride, TIFF, and NYFF selection was picked up by Bleecker Street who have now released the trailer ahead of a March 28 release in NYC and a wide release on April 4.

The drama from directors Scott McGehee and David Siegel opens exclusively in New York on March 28 before its wide release on April 4. And you can watch a brand-new trailer for the Naomi Watts-led film below.
“The Friend,” based on Sigrid Nunez’s 2018 book of the same name, stars Bill Murray as a man who leaves his beloved Great Dane to his friend (Watts). Wouldn’t you know it, she learns more from the dog than the dog could ever learn from her? Sarah Pidgeon, Constance Wu, Ann Dowd, Noma Dumezweni, Owen Teague and Carla Gugino also star.
The movie premiered at last year’s Telluride Film Festival and screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival. Bleecker Street acquired the North American rights to the film, which tentatively planned an early 2025 release. Now we know the release isn’t quite...

“The Friend,” an upcoming comedy-drama that follows the relationship between a New York writer and a Great Dane dog passed on to her by a deceased friend, marks the second collaboration between Naomi Watts and Bill Murray. After co-starring in the 2014 critically acclaimed comedy “St. Vincent.” While Murray is notorious for being difficult to track down in the casting process, filmmakers Scott McGehee and David Siegel had the advantage of Watts already on board, a friend of Murray’s who was willing and able to reach out to the comedy legend, as she explained in a recent Collider interview:

The cause of death for lauded and experimental filmmaker David Lynch has been revealed.
Lynch, who was behind such films as The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive and the seminal television series Twin Peaks, died as a result of cardiac arrest, with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease listed as an underlying cause, per a report by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health obtained by TMZ. Dehydration is also listed as a significant condition contributing to the death.
Beloved by the industry — with heartfelt tributes since pouring in from muses like Kyle MacLachlan and Naomi Watts, executives like Bob Iger and Ted Sarandos and fellow directors like Ron Howard and Martin Scorsese — Lynch died Jan. 15, five days shy of his 79th birthday.
Per Deadline’s obituary, Lynch had been diagnosed with emphysema in 2020, after having smoked tobacco for years since he was eight years old. Sources told Deadline that...

Spectacular and breathtaking, Birdman is an exhibition of magic realism.
Michael Keaton stars as an aging Riggan Thomson, once famous for playing a superhero called Birdman, a superhero franchise which had its last film in 1992, [which interestingly is also the year Michael Keaton’s 2nd Batman film released] and is now desperately looking for a comeback by appearing in a Broadway play.
Twenty-two years after Tim Burton made his last Batman film with Michael Keaton, who would have thought that the near-extinct Keaton would resurface in such a hauntingly beautiful fashion and deliver the most outstanding performance of his career? Michael Keaton was arguably the most deserving candidate for last year’s Academy Award for Best Actor. However, he lost to a brilliant performance by Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything.
Birdman is so similar to Keaton’s life in films that I wonder if director Alejandro González Iñárritu wanted to cast a washed-up superhero actor to play the...

Since making his acting debut in a 1989 episode of the NBC cop drama "In the Heat of the Night," Walton Goggins has been a most welcome presence on screens big and small. He first popped as police detective Shane Vendrell in the electrifying FX series "The Shield," and won our hearts as the scarily charming criminal Boyd Crowder over six brilliant seasons of FX's "Justified." We also love him as Baby Billy Freeman on "The Righteous Gemstones," and were blown away by his portrayal of The Ghoul on "Fallout." Goggins has been in some bad movies over the years (e.g. "American Ultra" and "Cowboys & Aliens"), but he certainly wasn't bad in them. The man seems wholly incapable of giving a bum performance.
Given that Goggins has become a favorite of filmmaker Quentin Tarantino since appearing in "Django Unchained," is it too much to hope that, whenever the director...

Bill Murray is notoriously hard to reach. For starters, he doesn’t have an agent. Add to that that he uses an 800 number that you can only leave a message on and the man may as well be on another planet if you’re trying to cast him. We have to respect how limited he chooses to be, but Bill Murraty himself may have some new insights on how he approaches which movies he signs on for.
After making a surprise appearance at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Bill Murray sat down with critic Elvis Mitchell to admit that his approach to secrecy has made him the sort of enigma that has distanced him from movie studios. “I’ve been lazy. I don’t have an agent anymore, so I’m not the first person people think of to be in studio movies…Only in this last year, doing...

Bill Murray concedes he hasn’t been proactive about finding work as an actor. The “Groundhog Day” and “Lost in Translation” star has appeared in just a few independent films, such as 2024’s ensemble crime comedy “Riff Raff” and Naomi Watts-led drama “The Friend,” in recent years.
“I’ve been lazy,” Murray said at Sundance Film Festival during a fireside chat on Sunday with critic Elvis Mitchell at the Elvis Suite. “I don’t have an agent anymore, so I’m not the first person people think of to be in studio movies.”
However, Murray, who reprised roles in 2023’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and last year’s “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” has a renewed desire to get back in front of the camera.

Naomi Watts remembers David Lynch and how “instrumental” he was in her Hollywood career.
In a new interview, the Mulholland Drive star revealed how the filmmaker kept her from quitting acting.
“[Lynch] was very instrumental to me even being in America,” Watts said on Live with Kelly and Mark. “I wouldn’t have stayed had I not met David Lynch.”
Watts told host Kelly Ripa and guest co-host Anderson Cooper that when she met Lynch, “the chips were down,” and it had been “ten years of flunking auditions.”
“Nothing was happening,” she added. “I was literally alienating people. I was making them uncomfortable because I was so like, ‘I need a job! I need a job!'” she recalled. “So much so that my agent at the time said, ‘You’re too intense. You’re making people uncomfortable.’ Yeah, I need a job. I’m desperate, I need to work.

Naomi Watts revealed on “Live With Kelly and Mark” (via Entertainment Weekly) that she nearly quit acting before she met the late David Lynch, who cast her as the lead in 2001’s “Mulholland Drive.” The film’s critical acclaim and global success turned Watts into a star after “10 years” of “flunking auditions.” Lynch died on Jan. 15 at 78 years old.

“He was very instrumental to me. Even being in America, I wouldn’t have stayed had I not have met David Lynch,” Watts said during an appearance on Tuesday morning’s Live! With Kelly and Mark, with Anderson Cooper filling in for co-host Mark Consuelos.
Watts went on to explain that she met Lynch — who died last week at age 78 — after a decade of trying to find work in Hollywood. “The chips were down,” she said. “I was literally alienating people … making them uncomfortable, like, ‘I need a job, I need a job,’ in fact, so much so that my agent at the time said, ‘You’re too intense. You’re making people uncomfortable.’ I’m like, yeah, ‘I need a job. I need to work.'”

Laura Dern is remembering collaborator and friend David Lynch on what would have marked his 79th birthday.
“Happy birthday, tidbit,” Dern wrote on Instagram alongside a warm picture of the two. “I will love and miss you every day for the rest of my life.”
Dern worked with Lynch across three films, beginning with 1986’s mystery-thriller Blue Velvet, in which she plays Sandy Williams — a detective’s daughter who becomes embroiled in an investigation connected to a severed ear — opposite MacLachlan’s leading man. Though Dern had been acting for over a decade before the crime flick’s release, the role — along with her turn in 1985’s Mask — marked her breakout.

Stars: Noémie Merlant, Will Sharpe, Naomi Watts, Jamie Campbell Bower, Chacha Huang, Anthony Wong, Harrison Arevalo | Written by Emmanuelle Arsan, Audrey Diwan, Rebecca Zlotowski | Directed by Audrey Diwan
Back in 1974, the original Emmanuelle was something of a cause celebre, a French soft-core erotic drama that became a huge crossover hit, inspiring multiple sequels and bestowing instant fame on its eponymous star, Sylvia Kristel. Now it’s been remade, with French star Noemie Merlant in the lead, and given a 21st century spin by director Audrey Diwan, the acclaimed director of 2021’s Golden Lion-winning abortion drama Happening. However, whatever Diwan and co-writer Rebecca Zlotowski were intending with this supposedly erotic dalliance, it does not appear to have penetrated, so to speak.
Merlant (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) plays Emmanuelle, a high-flying quality controller for a chain of luxury hotels. She’s first introduced having a spot of mile-high fun with...
