The Roku Channel has picked up sci-fi adventure series “The Pact” from Qatar-based Katara Studios and Taipei- and Los Angeles-based Organic Media Group.

The Roku Channel is the home of free and premium entertainment on the Roku hardware and software platform.

The six-part show will be exclusively available on The Roku Channel in the U.S., U.K. and Canada from March 26, 2022, and release to the rest of the world in July.

“The Pact” is an English language series, produced by full-service production firm Katara, created by Bobby Barbacioru, that was written by Gareth Brookes and Katara principal, Ahmed Al Baker.

Everyone loves a dog who can play basketball, learn karate, save children from wells or help Tom Hanks solve mysteries. Heck, everyone seems to love dogs, period. But where did all that love come from?

Albert Hughes’ “Alpha” tells the story of the first wolf who became man’s best friend, in a film that could have been cheap and saccharine — like so many dog films before — but instead feels almost, but not entirely, mythic.

“Alpha” stars Kodi Smit-McPhee (“X-Men: Apocalypse”) as Keda, a teenage caveman from thousands of years ago, whose father Tau is chief of their tribe. Keda is about to embark on his first hunt, and along the way earns his tattoo of the Big Dipper (which might be important later) but also earns scorn for his inability to kill a captured boar.

“Alpha,” an action-adventure film from Jeff Robinov’s Chinese-backed Studio 8, has secured a theatrical release in mainland China. It will arrive in Middle Kingdom cinemas Sept. 7.

The film is licensed through Leomus Pictures. Distribution is to be handled by state-owned China Film Group.

I'm not sure about this movie. The trailers that have been released haven't done a very good job selling me on it. My kids want to see it, so maybe that's the film's market. Maybe it will end up being a decent watchable adventure movie, but I'm not expecting much.

Sony Pictures has unveiled a trailer for an epic new action thriller titled Alpha, formerly known as The Solutrean (which is a very weird title so it makes sense they changed it). This is the latest feature film from Albert Hughes, who last directed The Book of Eli in 2010, and it's set during the last Ice Age - 20,000 years ago (kind of like Emmerich's 10,000 BC). This epic adventure follows the story of Zeta, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, a young man injured on a bison hunt left for dead. He befriends a lone wolf and together they figure out how to survive in this harsh environment. So basically it's The Revenant meets 10,000 BC. Albert Hughes, the co-director of films such as Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, From Hell and The Book of Eli, which was a solo directing gig, has released the first trailer for his new film adventure Alpha, and it looks... interesting. The story is set in Europe 20,000 years ago during the Ice Age.

While on his first hunt with his tribe’s most elite group, a young man is injured and left for dead. Awakening to find himself broken and alone -- he must learn to survive and navigate the harsh and unforgiving wilderness. Reluctantly taming a lone wolf abandoned by its pack, the pair learn to rely on each other and become unlikely allies, enduring countless dangers and overwhelming odds in order to find their way home before the deadly winter arrives.

Another week, another installment of VOD Vault – taking a look at some on-demand releases that have hit various VOD platforms recently. Master of Horror Alfred Hitchcock was supposedly fond of saying “Film your murders like love scenes, and film your love scenes like murders.” In essence, directors should be willing to go against the grain to create a frightening blend of sex and fear. The lines between what makes something erotic and what makes it terrifying can be blurrier than you might think.

Well, the directors of the following scenes probably heard that Hitchcock line at least once or twice (Some probably have it framed and hung in their offices). One thing these all have in common is that they’re downright steamy…right up until they’re incredibly disturbing and make you want to cover your eyes and hide your arousal.

Beware, for they may excite you, but they may also permanently stop the flow of blood to your favorite body parts.

Epic Pictures Group has brought online a trailer for their indie actioner, Vikingdom: The Blood Eclipse , an English-language adventure produced in Malaysia with a cast that includes Conan Stevens, Craig Fairbrass, Dominic Purcell, Jon Foo and Natassia Malthe. An English language sequel to Thale is coming, but before you despair, let it be known that the original writer and director, Aleksander Nordaas, is returning to the material that put him on the filmmaking map. He will be writing and directing the sequel, with Yesbox Productions and Epic Pictures Group teaming together.
