Two decades have passed since Jennifer Garner put down Elektra’s pair of Okinawan sais following the critical and commercial failure of her 2005 spinoff movie. No one expected that the character, at least her version, would be revived in Shawn Levy’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

There are a lot of flaws in the Elektra movie, and it became a learning experience for the filmmakers and producers not to go down that path again. Garner did an excellent job at playing the female anti-hero, but the story and execution lacked in several aspects.

Jennifer Garner played Elektra in Ben Affleck’s 2003 movie Daredevil. The actress confessed she wasn’t interested in returning for a spinoff but because of contractual obligations, she had to wield those pointy sais one more time.

"Kill him and get the girl!" Saban Films has released an official trailer for an action thriller titled Last Man Down, the second feature made by Swedish filmmaker Fansu Njie. It opens direct-to-vod starting in October, and this really does look like direct-to-video quality. Daniel Stisen stars as John Wood, who left the pieces of a broken civilization behind after a virus pandemic, to go back to his roots in the woodlands. Years later a wounded woman appears on his doorstep, claiming to have escaped from a lab because they believe her blood is the key to a worldwide cure. The film also stars Olga Kent, Daniel Nehme, Stanislav Yanevski, Madeleine Vall, and Natassia Malthe. This definitely looks like a macho woodsman badass takes-on-the-government-assholes kind of film, which might actually be entertaining to watch? Lock 'n load. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Fansu Njie's Last Man Down, direct from...

We’re at that exciting point in the Disney/Fox merger aftermath where nobody exactly knows what’s going on with all of the major franchise characters Marvel Studios just received, but the possibilities still seem endless. While it may be a while before we see Magneto or the Human Torch pop up in the McU, Disney has made it clear that some form of a Deadpool 3 is going to happen sooner rather than later, and now we’re slowly learning details about the Merc’s next adventure.
Sources close to We Got This Covered have shed some light on the Regenerating Degenerate’s first Disney movie, and it sounds like it’s going to be sick. That’s because Marvel is thinking about having Typhoid Mary be one of the film’s primary antagonists. Originally appearing in the comics as a Daredevil villain, the alter ego of Mary...

With the Summer winding down, and Labor Day well in sight, are moviegoers nostalgic for an adventure set it the “good ole’ days”? Hmmm, not sure if they were all that “good”, but the emphasis is on the “ole”, er “old” in the week’s new release. We’re going way, waaay back with this epic, around 20,000 years to be exact to the “cave man” tribal days, when humans were both hunters and the hunted. It’s not fun in fur skin time as in the comic strip “B.C.” or The Flintstones, nor is it the fantasy of early man evading dinosaurs as in the One Million Years B.C. films or the comedy Caveman (loved the stoned “stop -motion” T-Rex in that). . No, it’s a bit closer to the 1980’s double bill of Quest For Fire and Clan Of The Cave Bear, though more “family friendly” but...

Everyone loves a dog who can play basketball, learn karate, save children from wells or help Tom Hanks solve mysteries. Heck, everyone seems to love dogs, period. But where did all that love come from?
Albert Hughes’ “Alpha” tells the story of the first wolf who became man’s best friend, in a film that could have been cheap and saccharine — like so many dog films before — but instead feels almost, but not entirely, mythic.
“Alpha” stars Kodi Smit-McPhee (“X-Men: Apocalypse”) as Keda, a teenage caveman from thousands of years ago, whose father Tau is chief of their tribe. Keda is about to embark on his first hunt, and along the way earns his tattoo of the Big Dipper (which might be important later) but also earns scorn for his inability to kill a captured boar.

Albert Hughes’ prehistoric adventure, now on Blu-ray & DVD, is dazzling and frustrating at the same time.
It’s been a while since we had an old-fashioned caveman movie (for lack of a better term), and kudos to director Albert Hughes for conceiving of one with Alpha, the story of a prehistoric teen who makes his way back to his family across a vast, treacherous landscape with the help of a wolf he establishes a bond with. But the movie is both impressive and vexing as Hughes’ genuinely ambitious vision is hampered by stock plot points and inconsistent visuals.
Hughes isn’t afraid to genre-jump, going from urban drama (Menace II Society) to period horror (From Hell) to post-apocalyptic sci-fi (Book of Eli) with relative ease. In Alpha, he confidently asks viewers to follow Keda (Kodi Smit-McPhee), a young member of an advanced Cro-Magnon tribe known as the Solutrean. Keda speaks...

Part wilderness survival tale, part prehistoric boy-meets-wolf love story and part American Museum of Natural History exhibit come to life, Albert Hughes’ rugged, rich epic feels just as out-of-time as its narrative of primitive hunters and their Canis lupus pals. It’s a movie devoted to overwhelming viewers with vast, lush vistas of craggy cliffs, lightning-split skylines, endless snowy tundras, impossibly green forests and eye-popping auroras. (Sweeping does not begin to describe the visuals here; it not only deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible, it demands it.

“Alpha,” a spectacular prehistoric eye-candy survival yarn, is enthralling in a square and slightly stolid way. It’s the tale of a young hunter stranded in the wilderness, who proves his manhood and becomes best friends with a wolf, and it’s like a Disney adventure fueled by a higher octane of visual dazzle, with a gnarly texture wrought from elements like blood, excrement, and maggots. The director, Albert Hughes, made his name along with his brother Allen co-directing such landmark films as “Menace II Society” (1993) and the supremely underrated Jack the Ripper thriller “From Hell” (2001), and on his own he proves to be a seductive if highly traditional craftsman who knows how to sculpt a drama of the primal human spirit out of sweeping images: a herd of mastodons, a billowing volcano, a racing warthog, sun and wind and ice and plunging cliffs.

"Leaders are born from survival." Whoa. Sony has released a new trailer for the movie Alpha, which was originally set for release in March but then delayed until August this year. We featured the first trailer for this last year, almost a year ago, but the studio freaked. This new trailer is much different - selling it more as an uplifting tale like one of those fun nature documentaries. Very interesting pivot. This adventure follows the story of Zeta, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, a young man injured on a bison hunt left for dead. He befriends a lone wolf and together they figure out how to survive. The full cast includes Natassia Malthe, Leonor Varela, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Mercedes de la Zerda, and Jens Hultén. I can't believe they're actually trying to sell this as the story of the first dog, that's some serious pandering. Oh well. Here's the new...

Sony Pictures has released a new trailer and poster for their upcoming Ice Age adventure film Alpha. The film comes from director Albert Hughes, the co-director of films such as Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, From Hell and The Book of Eli, which was a solo directing gig.
I'm not sure about this movie. The trailers that have been released haven't done a very good job selling me on it. My kids want to see it, so maybe that's the film's market. Maybe it will end up being a decent watchable adventure movie, but I'm not expecting much.

Harvey Weinstein is suing his former studio, The Weinstein Company, in order to gain access to his personnel file and his work email account. Weinstein has been accused of sexual harassment by over 60 women since the first report from The New York Times was published on October 5. Actresses Rose McGowan, Asia Argento, and Natassia Malthe have accused Weinstien of rape, as has former production assistant Mimi Haleyi.

The suit was filed in Delaware. The former studio head says The Weinstein Company has rejected his attorney’s requests for his personnel file. Ashley Judd was one of the first women to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment by name. In the first Weinstein exposé from The New York Times, published on October 5, Judd shared her story of being invited for a business meeting with Weinstein that ended with her alone in his hotel room being asked to give him a massage and to watch him shower. Judd sat down with Diane Sawyer on Thursday’s “Good Morning America” for her first public interview since The Times story was published, and she had a surprising new message for the former studio head.

Heather Lind, the former star of AMC’s political drama series “Turn: Washington Spies,” accused President George H. W. Bush of sexual assault in an Instagram post that has since been deleted. The actress wrote that the former President “touched me from behind” while taking a photo at a March 2014 press event celebrating the television series.
Lind said she believed the action classifies as sexual assault and felt that Bush viewed it as “an attempt at humor.” She wrote that a security guard blamed her for the action for standing too close to the President, while former First Lady Barbara Bush allegedly knew what occurred and “rolled her eyes.”

Actress and model Dominique Huett has filed a lawsuit against The Weinstein Company, alleging that Harvey Weinstein’s former company was complicit in his abuse. Huett, who previously appeared on “Blue Bloods” in a guest role, went public with her allegations against Weinstein earlier this week, alleging that Weinstein “forcibly performed oral sex on her” in a Beverly Hills hotel room where the pair were set to meet under the guise of business.
Huett is one of dozens of actresses, models, and aspiring stars who have waged similar allegations against Weinstein in recent weeks. As Variety reports, Huett’s story sounds terribly familiar to anyone who has been following the fallout from a pair of shocking exposés published by The New York Times and The New Yorker earlier this month.

"An enemy will become an ally." Sony Pictures has unveiled a trailer for an epic new action thriller titled Alpha, formerly known as The Solutrean (which is a very weird title so it makes sense they changed it). This is the latest feature film from Albert Hughes, who last directed The Book of Eli in 2010, and it's set during the last Ice Age - 20,000 years ago (kind of like Emmerich's 10,000 BC). This epic adventure follows the story of Zeta, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, a young man injured on a bison hunt left for dead. He befriends a lone wolf and together they figure out how to survive in this harsh environment. So basically it's The Revenant meets 10,000 BC. The full cast includes Natassia Malthe, Leonor Varela, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Mercedes de la Zerda, and Jens Hultén. I really, really adore wolves, so I'm already into this. But this trailer is a bit awkward,...

Albert Hughes, the co-director of films such as Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, From Hell and The Book of Eli, which was a solo directing gig, has released the first trailer for his new film adventure Alpha, and it looks... interesting. Awakening to find himself broken and alone -- he must learn to survive and navigate the harsh and unforgiving wilderness. Reluctantly taming a lone wolf abandoned by its pack, the pair learn to rely on each other and become unlikely allies, enduring countless dangers and overwhelming odds in order to find their way home before the deadly winter arrives.

Master of Horror Alfred Hitchcock was supposedly fond of saying “Film your murders like love scenes, and film your love scenes like murders.” In essence, directors should be willing to go against the grain to create a frightening blend of sex and fear. The lines between what makes something erotic and what makes it terrifying can be blurrier than you might think.
Well, the directors of the following scenes probably heard that Hitchcock line at least once or twice (Some probably have it framed and hung in their offices). One thing these all have in common is that they’re downright steamy…right up until they’re incredibly disturbing and make you want to cover your eyes and hide your arousal.
Beware, for they may excite you, but they may also permanently stop the flow of blood to your favorite body parts.

If there is one thing that Vikings have absolutely no tolerance for, it has to be men in tunics, as this clip from Vikingdom clearly demonstrates. If you are wearing a tunic, then sadly you are a dead man. The equation is simple. The less clothes you wear, the more deadly and efficient you are at killing. Must be a freedom of movement thing. Or, in the case of Natassia Malthe and her whip, that is simply... a good thing. Wink wink. Nudge nudge. ...

Former Uwe Boll actors Dominic Purcell and Natassia Malthe team up to take on an evil Thor in Yusry Abd Halim’s expensive looking action-adventure fantasy epic “Vikingdom”. Thor is up to no good in this one, which will probably make the Odin Father very angry. Where’s Loki when you need him? Maybe Marvel can spare Tom Hiddleston to make a cameo. Couldn’t hurt to ask, right? Or maybe one of Thor’s fellow Avengers… Anyhoo. Check out a pair of trailers and a batch of images from the film. It actually looks pretty good. Or at least, very interesting. Jon Foo of “Tekken” fame is in this one, too. (Or Jon Foo of “Tekken” infamy in case you didn’t like “Tekken”. To each his own.)
