[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the NCIS: Sydney Season 2 premiere “Heart Starter.”] All it took was Mackey (Olivia Swann) almost losing her job for her to open up on NCIS: Sydney. Last we saw, it looked like Rankin (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) was involved in the kidnapping of J.D.’s (Todd Lasance) son. But, it turns out, he’s just another piece; his pacemaker was really so someone could listen in and it was hacked, putting him in a coma. He’s the only one who can give them any information, and they’re now stuck waiting for him to wake up (while the world thinks he’s dead). Meanwhile, Mackey reveals to Jd while both are on the outs with their agencies that she has an almost 18-year-old son who lives with her mom. In the end, Mackey and Jd do keep their jobs; the assassin (Georgina Haig) whom the latter had let go to trade for...

The Aussie-set actioner ended its freshman season with Jd Dempsey (Todd Lasance) backed into a corner after his 9-year-old son was snatched. He agreed to free a prisoner in exchange, but at the meetup the kidnapper was killed and the escaping criminal implicated Jd’s boss Colonel Rankin (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) in the abduction. “We’re thrown right back in,” teases NCIS: Sydney‘s Olivia Swann, who plays Jd’s partner Michelle Mackey. The pair will face the repercussions for releasing a prisoner — even if it was for a reason. Below, she previews the new season. Plus, watch an exclusive featurette above. We were left on a huge cliffhanger in Season 1. Where do we find Mackey when the series returns? Olivia Swann: Season 2 is almost a direct pick up from the end of Season 1. With NCIS: Sydney season 2 closer than ever before, there are a few things to remember before it returns for its sophomore year. As an NCIS spinoff, NCIS: Sydney is the first show in the NCIS universe to expand beyond America. The procedural puts a unique spin on the franchise by combining the American Naval Criminal Investigative Service with the Australian Federal Police in a unique NCIS/Afp task force that supports the American military base in Australia.
The international offshoot has typically followed the structured format of NCIS episodes featuring a new case every episode, but there have been a few twists. Besides the unique location, NCIS: Sydney has also introduced an interesting partnership between two vastly different characters, Mackey and Jd, the leaders of NCIS and Afp respectively. NCIS: Sydney's characters bring life to the series and separate it from its predecessors. Even with just 8 episodes, season 1 featured...

NCIS: Sydney has been renewed for season 2, with the main cast expected to return and potential new characters joining. The storyline of season 2 will likely explore the mysterious connection between Ana and Colonel Rankin, which could pose a major threat to the NCIS team. Showrunner Morgan O'Neill is excited to delve deeper into the lives of the core team, revealing what makes them tick as their bonds are tested.

When "Alien 3" was released in 1992, it was roundly bashed by critics, met with uproar by fans, and later disowned by its director, David Fincher. Despite this, the troubled production and intrigue around Fincher's original vision have made it a constant source of fascination for "Alien" aficionados. One of the many subplots was the input of David Twohy, one of several writers involved in the film and whose biggest contribution was the setting of a prison planet populated by shaven-headed criminals.
Things didn't work out for Twohy on "Alien 3," but he got a chance to revisit that idea when he was offered the chance to rework and direct a screenplay that bore similarities to the "Alien" movies. Its most interesting character would become a vicious criminal named Richard B. Riddick, recaptured after busting out from a maximum security prison, perhaps not unlike the one in the much-maligned third...

Syfy has been cleaning house and getting rid of a bunch of their existing shows while introducing new ones. Will new shows like Hunters attract bigger audiences than the shows they're dropping? Will Hunters be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
On Hunters, the beloved wife of a decorated FBI agent (Nathan Phillips) is mysteriously abducted. When it becomes clear that her abduction is tied to a group of ruthless and extraterrestrial terrorists called Hunters, the agent is recruited by a secret government organization called the Exo-Terrorism Unit (Etu) to bring the aliens down. The show also stars Laura Gordon, Shannon Berry, Britne Oldford, Lewis Fitz-Gerald, Mark Coles Smith, Gareth Davies, and Julian McMahon.

Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
If the advertisements for Syfy’s new series Hunters were promising in their silly mish-mash of modern-day terrorism and B-movie monsters, it might not have been exactly because of the premise itself. In retrospect, Hunters piqued my interest because of the quality turn-around the network took with the largely solid first seasons of The Expanse and The Magicians.
I saw a commercial for Hunters during a particularly fun episode of the latter and, I admit, my enthusiasm for the network’s attempted return to Battlestar Galactica-level TV made me ready to consume everything on offer.
The problem with Hunters, then, is a tragically awkward disconnect between a silly premise (alien terrorists) and aggressively dour tone, one that’s only exacerbated by particularly lame world-building. It’s got the case-of-the-week camp vibe of the Warehouse 13 era, but showrunner Natalie Chaidez overly course-corrects...

Scott Hicks: One Of The Boys
By
Alex Simon
Scott Hicks made his bones as a filmmaker the old-fashioned way, paying his dues as a crew member during the Australian film industry’s birth in the 1970s. Born in Uganda March 4, 1953, and raised in Kenya, England and finally Australia, Hicks worked his way up to assistant director for soon-to-be big names such as Peter Weir and Bruce Beresford before moving into directing industrial films and documentaries for television. Hicks didn’t direct his first feature, Freedom, until 1982, and had to wait for his second, in 1996, to put him on the A-list. Shine was the true story of Australian piano prodigy David Helfgott, and his battle with mental illness. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards, and won a Best Actor statuette for Geoffrey Rush, who played Helfgott as an adult.
Hicks has been choosy since then, going back and...
