This is another one of these low-rent, junk thrillers being passed off as something true crime obsessed audiences of today might want to see. How long has it been since we've seen Freddie Prinze Jr. in anything? So he's back? Prinze Jr. stars as Tom, who "reflects on one final rendezvous with a woman he is having an affair with — shortly before that same woman is found dead in his pool. To complicate matters, Tom's wife and his family throw him a surprise birthday party in the same backyard. At the party, Tom's shock is noticed by those around him, including his father-in-law and a man who arrives at his home saying he is looking for his wife.

Remakes have always been and will always be a tricky proposition. You could have something as pure and wonderful as 1982’s The Thing, which is objectively better than the revered Howard Hawks and Christian Nyby version, but be trapped in purgatory for way too long before it is decided that its proper and loved. There’s a bunch that are better in different ways or at least thoroughly enjoyable in their own right like John Carpenter’s masterpiece, Philip Kaufman’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and of course David Cronenberg’s The Fly. While you can argue the horror vs sci fi merits of any of these movies, their quality can’t be disputed. When it comes down to what you can or can’t remake, I think the gloves are off at this point. Quiver Distribution announced today that they have partnered with Blacktop International to launch sales on psychological thriller The Girl in the Pool, starring Freddie Prinze Jr (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scooby-Doo). The news comes with a first look image from the film.

The Girl in the Pool also stars Monica Potter and Kevin Pollak.

About the thriller: “A well-to-do family man is forced to struggle through a surprise birthday party moments after hiding the murdered corpse of his mistress.”

Dakota Gorman directors the thriller from a script by Jackson Reid Williams.

“The Girl in the Pool is a surprising thriller that will keep audiences guessing right until the end,” said Quiver Distribution Co-Presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman in a press release, who added that “Freddie Prinze Jr. delivers a remarkable performance as the unfaithful husband in a truly unfathomable predicament.”

Quiver Distribution is partnering with Blacktop International to launch sales at EFM next week on Freddie Prinze Jr. thriller The Girl In The Pool and has released a first-look image from the film.

Quiver has wrapped production on the story directed by Dakota Gorman about a well-to-do family man who must get through a surprise birthday party thrown by his wife shortly after he has hidden the corpse of his murdered mistress.

Starring alongside Prinze Jr are Monica Potter as his wife, and Kevin Pollak.

Prinze Jr. and Potter starred together in Universal’s 2001 comedy Head Over Heels.

When you think of Sundance movies, you usually think of quirky, optimistic or melodramatic coming-of-age stories. Five years ago, Arrow Video gave a two-disc limited edition Blu-ray release to writer/director Wes Craven’s 1972 feature debut The Last House on the Left. Parenthood star Sam Jaeger addresses the possibility of a reboot. Developed by Friday Nights Lights creator Jason Katims, Parenthood debuted on NBC and ran for six seasons. With an ensemble cast that included the likes of Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Dax Shepard, Monica Potter, Erika Christensen, Craig T. Exclusive: Francesca Eastwood (Old) and Milo Gibson (Hacksaw Ridge) have been tapped to star in Clawfoot — a cat-and-mouse thriller from Yale Entertainment, which is currently in production in Los Angeles.

In the film penned by April Wolfe (Black Christmas), an upper-class suburban housewife (Eastwood) is psychologically terrorized by a manipulative contractor (Gibson), leading to a twisted battle of wits with deliciously unexpected results.

The film’s director Michael Day (As They Made Us) is producing alongside Yale’s Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman, with Kade Thomas, Scott Levenson, Jason Kringstein, Lee Broda and Colby Cote serving as exec producers. Yale’s recently launched sales banner Great Escape, led by Nick Donnermeyer, will handle worldwide sales.

When “This Is Us” premiered in September 2016, “Parenthood” had been off the air for a little more than a year. Many dubbed Dan Fogelman’s new NBC family drama the heir apparent to Jason Katims’ critical darling, which was itself a successor to his NBC family drama “Friday Night Lights.” Some even mistakenly complimented Katims for his work on “This Is Us,” assuming it was his next big-hearted tearjerker. Of course, “This Is Us” wasn’t Katims’ project, but that wasn’t the only key difference between the two shows: “This Is Us” quickly became a ratings juggernaut, whereas “Parenthood” was never NBC’s top draw, and the large ensemble cast eventually took pay cuts in order to ensure a sixth and final season could happen.

So, a little lingering irritation is understandable, even in jest — like the quippy remarks made at “Parenthood’s” reunion panel Friday night, as part of the 2022 Atx TV Festival.
