- CreatorIrwin AllenStarsMartin MilnerPat DelaneyWillie AamesKarl Robinson, his wife, two children and an orphaned girl end up on a volcanic island after a shipwreck. Also on the island is Jeremiah Worth, who was abandoned there seven years earlier. This Irwin Allen series went missing for 33 years and was finally found again in early 2024. The April/May screenings were mind blowing. I had forgotten how good this series is! Related to LOTG in that the series has a Fitz-type character played by Cameron Mitchell. One episode totally ripped off a LOTG episode as the father had to operate on his sick son. Perhaps the bigger point here is that both shows made strong use of Richard LaSalle music cues and writer William Welch was involved in both. I have a strange relationship with The Swiss Family Robinson, in a nutshell: it is apart of the Irwin Allen family of TV shows. This family member is not perfect (there were a few less pleasing episodes and Irwin's Sci-Fi stuff is better) but because it is apart of the Irwin Allen family I can forgive the flaws. If you saw the series as a kid I strongly suggest you give it another go today as an adult. My view of it has totally changed and improved. In fact, there was a time in the 1990s where I had a low opinion of it. That now seems hard to understand??
