Some things I like in both the previous book and this one:
- The first really good representation of a warrior-monk in fantasy.
- The first really good representation of a doppelganger in fantasy.
- The blending of fantasy and SF in a tasteful and intelligent way.
The desert war was awesome, but I've already read an awesome fantasy desert war in one of the Malazan books. And while this one isn't worse by any way, the novelty is gone. The thing about ...more
