Jack Wallen (jack_wallen) | 25 comments I've read most of his work (the Inferno series being my favorite). I've always thought him to be one of the better splatter punk writers of the day.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I think you'll find many fans in this thread. I don't like everything he's done, but I did enjoy The Black Train. Thought it was gross and scary and a lot funny.

Scott Baker | 148 comments I love most of Ed Lee's works. The INFERNO series, MONSTROSITY, and THE GOLEM are my favorites; plus I enjoyed GOING MONSTERING, but that is a sick book (and not in the gore sense).

My least favorites of his are THE TRAIN (I read the extended version, GAST) and BRIDES OF THE IMPALER.

message 4: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I forgot I liked Golem, too.

message 5: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I've added The Black Train to my reading list.

message 6: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Good, Eileen. Hope you enjoy it.

I picked up Backwoods today to read on my lunch hour, but glancing at the reviews it got, I put it right back on the shelf. Not very many glowing ones.

Pagetranquility The Inferno books are my most favorite. I've read some of his contributions to short story collections, and there is one that haunts me to this day. Really wish I could forget I read it. I believe the title is "Stickwoman".

message 8: by Scott (last edited Mar 03, 2011 02:03PM) (new)

Scott "The Stick Woman." It's in Darkside: Horror for the Next Millenium. That was the first Lee I ever read. It impressed me with its nastiness, but then I read a few more of his stories and found out what a one-trick pony he was. It's still pretty gross, though.

message 9: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Now I just must read "The Stick Woman." Huh, no library in WorldCat is willing to admit to owning Darkside and I don't want to buy it. Poo.

message 10: by Scott (new)

Scott It's worth buying..

message 11: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I already have to box up so many books when I move. I really don't want to add to it. Maybe when I'm settled.

message 12: by Jack (new)

Jack Wallen (jack_wallen) | 25 comments It looks like Lee has a few new books out. Has anyone had a chance to read Brain Cheese Buffet, Bullet through your Face, or Ipswitch Horror?

message 13: by Pianoforte (new)

Pianoforte | -10 comments i liked The House/The Pig but The Minotauress which I read next was so poor I haven't read any more.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments Every time I think of the ending from "In the Year of Our Lord: 2202," I can't help smiling. Check out the story in

Triage by Jack Ketchum

All three stories are good but Lee's takes the prize.

message 15: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (alazif) I loved the Inferno series. Wish he'd do more with it.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I also liked the inferno series, particularly his detailed image of hell and its leaders (the more disgusting you were on earth, the higher you rise in hell). by the way, does anyone know what happened to his books now that Dorchester has gone out of business (or has it merely changed its name?)

message 17: by 11811 (Eleven) (new)

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments His paper books can be found at http://www.necropublications.com/

And there are reasonably priced ebooks at https://www.smashwords.com/profile/vi...

Yeah, Brides of the Impaler a big disappointment -- as was Creekers.

Jack Wallen (jack_wallen) | 25 comments Aaron wrote: "I loved the Inferno series. Wish he'd do more with it."

Totally agree. Loved the way he laid out Hell. I think he wrote another book that took place in hell. I started reading a sample and then, for some reason, didn't purchase the book. Guess I need to revisit that title.

Iain Wright (iainrobwright) Just got into Lee. He's great if you've got the stomach for it. 'Ever Nat' was probably the most disturbing thing I ever read.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments "Ever Nat": First up is a long short story called "Ever Nat," and even by Ed Lee’s standards this is seriously hardcore. An absolute nightmare of a tale involving sexual violence on a scale that has to be read to be believed. "Ever Nat" is hard to describe without spoiling the plot but suffice to say it’s about a man who gets a whole lot more than he bargains for one night when he picks up a white trash whore on the way home from work. Exhilaratingly brutal stuff.

Sounds good. Is her name Eileen Wuornos?

I think this is the most bloody awful short story I ever read: http://www.grahammasterton.co.uk/eric....

I bought The Backwoods by Lee at my library bookstore and when I have some time to kill I pick it up and read a few pages.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments Thanks for sharing that link, I think. That story was truly awful. The poor calf!

message 23: by Jack (new)

Jack Wallen (jack_wallen) | 25 comments I've never even seen Ever Nat. I'll have to find it and give it a go.

message 24: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I'm intrigued too, Jack.

Jack wrote: "It looks like Lee has a few new books out. Has anyone had a chance to read Brain Cheese Buffet, Bullet through your Face, or Ipswitch Horror?"

I've read "The Innswich Horror" and enjoyed it. I'd recommend it to fans of H.P. Lovecraft's classic "The Shadow Over Innsmouth". It's the only Edward Lee book I've read as the whole splatterpunk thing doesn't get my juices flowing. I was impressed by how such a notorious writer handled a Lovecraftian tale. I'll certainly be reading "Trolley No. 1852" down the line.

message 26: by G.R. (new)

G.R. Yeates (gryeates) | 69 comments I agree in his capability as a Lovecraftian writer. Trolley No. 1852 has one of the few occasions in homage fiction that overtly uses Lovecraft's voice and style where the writer captures that eerie ambience. I won't spoil it for those who have not read it but yeah, check out 1852. Fantastic piece of work.

Just picked this one up in Philly a couple of weeks ago. Looks good.

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments it's a lot of fun, despite being very badly edited

message 29: by Timothy (last edited Aug 12, 2011 01:54PM) (new)

Timothy Asbury | 960 comments Thanks for the heads up. My favorite Ed Lees from now on are going to be the ones that Tressa really hates like Backwoods, Bighead Etc.

message 30: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments It's your time to waste. Do as you please.

Lots of time at work to enjoy torture porn.

message 32: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments You get to read between ear fondlings? Lucky? You have the ideal sensual, relaxing job.

message 33: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Asbury | 960 comments I just hope I don't start feeling the need to start ripping peoples ears off.

message 34: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments And having sex with holes created by the missing ears. I do believe this is one hole that a Lee character hasn't violated yet.

message 35: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments well, if you do...you can start making these

message 36: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Asbury | 960 comments Damn I really have to get out of the ear business.

message 37: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments What sort of thing would you prefer to be doing?

message 38: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Asbury | 960 comments Greeter at Wal-Mart or a goat herder.

message 39: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments I can see you herding goats

message 40: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments That greeter job seems sweet.

message 41: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Asbury | 960 comments Gatorman I really believe its a job I can't fuck up!

message 42: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments will these greetings be accompanied by ear fondling?

message 43: by Timothy (last edited Aug 15, 2011 08:13AM) (new)

Timothy Asbury | 960 comments No, I'm moving to Wyoming and goat herding part time and greeting part time. I really didn't want to ear fondle, I just kind of fell into it.

message 44: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments in that case, I wish you fun goats

message 45: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Asbury | 960 comments If theres one thing those goats need it's a herder.

message 46: by Bandit (new)

Bandit (lecturatoro) | 8821 comments precisely :)

message 47: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments And if there's one thing a Walmart shopper needs, it's a greeting.

message 48: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Why does a business have to pay someone to stand at the entrance and welcome me to the store? Greeter is the most useless position in retail!

message 49: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments True, but it serves to employ many mentally and physically handicapped people, since I find many of the greeters fit these categories.

message 50: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Asbury | 960 comments Tressa's just mad because they turned down her application.
