This is where you will need to post information about completed tasks - updates to the scoreboard will be based on what is posted HERE AND ONLY HERE. The things that must be included in your post are: the title/author of the book (or a link to that book) and what task it is for (either a description of the task or the number associated with the tasks (exe. 5 point task number 3). If the task involves an activity (a required review or watching a related film) details of that activity must also be posted. Finished a couple--BEAR-OLOGY by Sylvia Dolson
This was a factoid book about bears that I had a little trepidation going into, but found it thoroughly enjoyable. I didn't know that bears have as good eyesight as humans and see in color, that mothers keep their cubs with them for up to four years, and that they form communal groups and are able to figure things out (and tend to not forget). The Panda even has a rudementary thumb. My favorite story in the book was about a bear who was orphaned in Iraq during WWII and was "adopted" by a group of Polish soldiers. The bear and the men became inseperable until the end of the war when the bear was given to a zoo to finish his days (should have been a refuge, but I guess there were not that many then).

THE STRANGE DEATHS OF BATMAN by Various Authors and Artists.
Back in the day when I was dating a comic-book store owner I got hooked on comics and my favorite was Batman. I loved the fact that he had no "superpowers" but used his mind and trained his body to fight evil.
This book is like a histrical look at the evolution of the character taking seven stories of Batman's "death" dating from 1966 to 2001. The earlier authors seemed to think that the story had to seem "smart", with Batman thinking up scientific ways to destroy the villain, in order for the story to succeed. While the later Batman simply used deduction and brawn to get the job done. The evolution of the art is pretty amazing. I can't say that the early works were simpler, but there was a definate rise in quality as the years progressed.
So that brings me to 20 points.

Thanks Lindsey, but I did, it was 5.2. Maybe you were directing your comment toward Roseann? Also, Rhiannon is in the clear, because The Book Thief is set in Germany, so she can use it for 10.5 (if that's what you were referring to). I know this because I'm using the same book for the same task.

Lindsey - I really like Kaye Gibbons's writing style, do you? I've selected Charms for the Easy Life for the second part of Roseann's task.
Yea, I really like her style. This was a re-read, I read it earlier this year and loved it. I have another book of hers I'm using for the Civil War task called On the Occasion of My Last Afternoon A Novel. Hopefully it'll be just as good.
Wee!! Points already!! Finished task 5.2 (Apple) - I read Midnight in the Dollhouse by Marjorie Stover. I absolutely ADORE this book. It was one of my favorites growing up and now its out of print. Luckily I found a copy of it on eBay last week for $1! Here's a copy of the cover since it's not posted on GR:
I also finished task 10.3 (Bear) - For this one, I read 11 different Berenstain Bears books. I loved these books when I was growing up, so it was a wonderful trip down memory lane for me on this task! I read The Berenstain Bears: Go to School; Get the Gimmies; Trouble at School; Too Much Birthday; Week at Grandma's; Go Out for the Team; Meet Santa Bear; Bad Dream; Trick or Treat; Slumber Party; AND Prize Pumpkin. Each book is 32 pages long, so that makes my total # of pages 352. Amazing how quickly those go by in children's books :D

Just completed another task (again, woohoo for sleeping patients):10.7 (Novel about a hero) - Beowulf. Beowulf has always been a favorite of mine, and I think this is my favorite translation so far.
Hopefully I'll finish 1 more book before the night is through.

Britta, you could also try to find a poetry book with a word in the title that rhymes with "Going" or "Postal" for Nicole's task.
I started The Stinky Cheese Man and Little Bear last night for task 10.3 (children's books). Both books had a total of 115 pages.

I liked Ellen Foster too and also liked Charms For An Easy Life but I have to admit that I've read nothing else by Gibbons since OTOOMLA. Maybe you'll have a better experience.

I think it would be awesome if our world was exciting as Westerfeld's? I mean can you imagine? Cross bred animals and highly advance war machines? ok so that doesn't sound so good but trust me it is amazing in the book. Plus I'm sure there are much more peaceful inventions in that alternate history, but the story takes place during World War I so of course there will be a lot of tanks and ships. It would also be cool to have seen what would have happen if the Archduke's children were legitimate heirs to the Austrian throne. I can't say the world would be better per say, as there will still be war and death but it would be ALOT more interesting for Europe and the world.
