I certainly liked this book, I'm just not sure if I loved it. I wasn't expecting the two different time periods in the narration, and it was handled very well and was never confusing. The mystery at the center of the novel definitely had some twists, and I was surprised by some of the revelations, even if some were a bit obvious. The major red herring was a little too blatantly a red herring and felt a little jammed in to send the reader down the wrong path. Some of the dialogue was stilted and unrealistic; a character revealed (view spoiler)[she was pregnant and it was very "Oh you're pregnant!", "Yes I am!" (hide spoiler)] with no real build up or fluidity.

There was one moment in the end, when the villain is revealed that was quite disturbing and came out of the blue. I found myself wondering why the already despicable villain had to go to those lengths as well.

All of that to say, I did like the main character and am curious how her narrative continues in future books.
