The Queen of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #1)

I love that this book addresses the weight of responsibility of a ruler. To make a comparison of another monarchy based book: The Selection is a series that glorifies the life of royalty. The pretty dresses, maids waiting on you, and they sort of allude to the difficult decisions of being a ruler.
While reading this you do not envy the decisions the main character is faced with at all, but you’re constantly intrigued at how she will handle the challenges she faces. I enjoyed that you are finding things out while the mc does, even though there are chapters from other perspectives, it keeps you interested and wondering what will happen next.
One of my favorites right now, I couldn’t put it down and already ordered the rest of the series.
* I would say this book has some dark themes and vulgar descriptions, but it feels necessary to show the realities of her kingdom and the dangers she faces.
