It seemed like I waited a long time for this book before the library finally got it in for me. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. After reading Good Luck With That and Now That You Mention It, I was looking forward to another Kristan Higgins book. I will say that I love how the author writes, she sneaks in and you are hooked. But, for me, that is not what happened here.
I did not like most of the characters in this book. The only two I liked were Riley and Pops. The grandmother, Genevieve, was a bitch. No other word would describe her better. She had money, therefore, what she thought was right. Her way or the highway. And when Emma got pregnant as a teenager, well, it was the highway for her. Well, I will go off on a tangent if I continue.
I got to page 207 and found out another character got a chapter of their own. How many people do I have to read about and want to throw the book across the room? Yes, some books you get mad at but in a good way. This book was not it. There were so many characters that we were introduced to and they all had problems and their own chapters. Oh my god, did they have problems. I know this book is about sad things and depression and dealing with death but it seemed like everyone had someone close to them who had died. You would have to draw a diagram to connect everyone’s death and how they were related. It was just too much, for me. I don’t mind reading a book that has a difficult subject or that the characters have to deal with it but I don’t want to get depression in the meantime.
I wrote in my notes that on page 207 that I would stop here, take it back to the library, and try again later. But the longer it is that I haven’t read it the better I feel and have decided to not try again later.
I do look forward to Kristan Higgins next book and hope it will be like the two mentioned above. She is still one of my go-to authors though.

"I don't know if I'm going to finish this book. It's just not as good as the author's other books. I don't know if I can read any more about these horrible characters. If I don't read any more before it's due back at the library I don't think I will be missing much. It's sad because I usually love Kristan Higgin's books."
