This book is told from the point of view of Red, an old oak tree. Red is a wishtree. Over the years, people have written their wishes on scraps of cloth and tied them to Red's branches. Red is really wise and smart and observant, and a surprisingly endearing character. When a new family moves into Red's neighborhood, Red breaks the rules to foster friendship and acceptance. The story was really touching and I loved the little bits of trivia about the natural world that were thrown in.
