I thought some aspects of the novel were very good but then for the remainder of the book I was left with some crap. There were so many random things happening, like Corein was the emperor somehow, when Elaina and Navi etc. Were running to Astavar abs they miraculously ran into Malik Navi’s brother I was just like hold up what is he doing here. And what was with the angels coming back to life. To me it was all over the place. When Elaina found out she was the daughter of Rielle she asked questions that I thought could have been asked later, and when she asked how it was possible( thousands of years apart) the angel barely told her anything and that should have been the main question. I also was bothered by the scene between Rielle and Audric, so I love a good romance but I just didn’t feel connected to the characters in any way and so that then made me feel like the love was rushed and not thought through. The scene between the two characters( you know which one I’m talking about) I am pretty young but I read a lot of the YA books I am 13 but I came to read a book about women empowerment not a book how a young Generals daughter wants the princes hands in her pants. It was very awkward to read and I just thought that it wasn’t necessary to that extent. I’m more a fan of the less detailed version where you get little snippets of where she was touched and then the chapter ender ‘ my world exploded’ then new chapter. See because you still know what they did without getting a health class out of it. Navi as a character I thought she was sprung upon us in the beginning but she became a vital role in Elainas development as a character. I thought remy deserved better. Harkan just shouldn’t have been there in my opinion, if he had not been there it would have moved things along much smoother in my opinion like the romance between Simon and Elaina. Overall I thought the book deserved a 3.5 at the least and a 4 at the most.
