This was fun! I don't think this story'll stick with me but I had fun and was never bored. I was disappointed with the final reveal and I could see some others coming from a mile away, but the family was so fun to hate. Mackie is so good at writing evil and funny rich people. I had a few nose breaths here and there, and the afterlife concept was a unique angle. ...more

I never vibe with magical realism so I don't know why I keep trying.
This was just boring. It took way too long to get interesting, and I wasn't invested in the relationships or the main character. The balance between a dystopian surveillance state and the magical realism just didn't work for me. That's always my issue with magical realism, I can't turn my brain off to enjoy it.
I didn't hate this, parts were really good, they just were too few and far between. I loved learning about objects for the first time and how that made me rethink the world around me, but the plot didn't work for me at all.
Very mixed bag, I only read this because Lily Gladstone has signed on for the movie adaptation. I think this might work better as a film tbh....more

Fisher's writing is so snappy and fun, and her narration made it feel like we were just hanging out. I loved her perspective on being an older actress well past her glory days, her relationship with Leia and her relationship with herself as just Carrie.
Most of this focused on her affair with Harrison Ford, which I have to admit that I didn't really care about. The diary entries were written by a 20-year-old, and it shows. This was the weakest part for me, which is a problem considering the title of the book.
So overall, I really like Fisher's writing and perspective, but the majority of the book didn't interest me. I wanted more of a straight-up biography, so maybe I'll try Wishful Drinking instead. ...more
I like this series, but I don't think I will ever feel more than that. I might try more books, but I've had enough for now. I say this every time, 3/5
I like this series, but I don't think I will ever feel more than that. I might try more books, but I've had enough for now. I say this every time, but I wish this were longer. The gang is trapped for like five minutes before they escape and everything is fine. There are no stakes, and I didn't find Confection that interesting. I found the Moors much more atmospheric and memorable. Idk a candy world is just boring to me. I didn't love Kora as a character, and Rini annoyed me.
Kade is back and I love him, and he will always have the most interesting story for me. I like that there is a continuous underlying plot, and I want to see more of that....more

As a former bookseller, I feel like I should have enjoyed this more. The characters are charming, but the inclusion of a cliché fantasy plot wasn't needed. It felt like the author was forced to add a plot instead of the slice of life they wanted. I appreciate that this ended on a somewhat bittersweet note. Some relationships are just steps on the road to the right one. So yeah this was okay but nothing special....more
