Hellmouth is different to those I usually read, as it’s a medieval-style, brutal, horror. It’s set all the way back in the 1300’s.
Rating it 3 Stars, simply because I feel as though the story could have been fleshed out better at a slightly longer page count than around 50 pages. Even just 20-50 more pages would do. The writing style is detailed and engaging. ...more

Boote’s writing style is. This is extreme/splatter-punk horror to the most extreme degree, Christ I feel as though I need to rinse my brain with bleach after reading. It’s takes a lot to disturb me, I’m good with gore and such, but the plot of this honestly made me feel sick to my stomach… yet I could not look away. It discusses how some parents will use “religion” as an excuse to pretty much torture and abuse their children, and then wonder why they turn out to be fucked up mentally as a result. Also there is some demonic possession thrown into the mix for good measure. ...more

Check the trigger warnings for just about everything you could imagine. If you aren’t a reader of extreme horror/splatter-punk, then please avoid. I ended up really liking the character of Tina, you can empathise with her struggles and her losses, and are rooting for her to take her revenge here. I’m definitely curious to check out more of this author’s work now.
The main character, Joey’s unique and highly disturbing sexual fetish has ruined his health, and robbed him of his once good-looks. He isn’t technically homeless, but is choosing the life of a vagrant to chase his sickening desires. How much further could his disturbing fetish go? Well, it might finally cost him his life at the hands of a woman he had once been with/used, who is out for his blood.

Dollface is an extreme, splatter-punk, novella - which is only readable because the extremes are done as revenge against the most deplorable excuse for a “human being” ever (the character of ‘Papa’).
Dollface has seen Papa hurt/kill countless young girls, and has been unable to do anything about it - because she actually is an inanimate object; a doll. But now, she has awoken, and she is filled with anger and rage. She’s going to make Papa pay for all she has had to witness and endure at his hands.

I could hear her deadpan delivery of the text in my head as I was reading the Kindle version, so it was keeping me laughing. At times, it can feel quite repetitive, that’s why I spaced out reading this in-between my others reads. but I did highlight so many of the jokes. I can’t get enough Cunk! The mockumentaries are quite possibly some of the funniest television I’ve ever watched, especially if you are British or like that style of humour, I highly recommend them.

Not that it is a majorly creepy age-gap or anything, but this relationship does indeed feel Hopeless. Whilst I was reading it at the beginning, I did like Bailey’s character, and had *some* hopes for her. But the more the story went into her and Beau’s budding relationship, the more bored I sadly became. This was a surprise, because Beau was an interesting side character in the previous books, so the reader would feel excited about a book when he is the male main character. The Author should have delved more into Beau’s PTSD from his traumatic time in the army, the side of him that we know he would be trying to heal. It could have been a powerful story about finding love after going through harrowing times… but it was not this. Where was the depth?! The spicy scenes were often awkward because of the way Bailey’s virginity was written. There didn’t seem to be much of a connection between this couple, it doesn’t seem like a solid relationship that would last like the other couples in this series. The “fake relationship/fiancè” storyline-trope felt tired here. Elsie Silver’s writing pace is quick, I will give her that. I was able to sit with this and finish pretty much all of it within an hour or two. This is definitely the weakest book in the Chestnut Springs series, which is sad because this was the last book of my buddy ready with my GR, Fable friend, angelpompom...more

She Theo and Winter are my second favourite couple in this series, after Cade and Willa. The character development that I wanted for Winter happened! She gets rid of her toxic partner, Rob, and gets back in touch with her estranged sister, Summer. It makes her character so much more likeable. It took me a little while to fully feel invested in this story because of my initial apprehensions about Winter, but then once it took off, I really started to enjoy their love story. ”That night we were reckless. But god I’d be reckless with you over and over again if it means ending up here.” One night between Theo and Winter changes the trajectory of their lives. Some miscommunication over this major event ends up possibly ruining their relationship before it even begins. But Theo is honestly like a ray of sunshine, whilst Winter is more reserved due to hang ups from previous relationships. He is exactly what she needs to be able to open herself up to love again. She doesn’t want to get hurt though, and now things have gotten very serious between the both of them, because they have been Reckless.

Intriguing that it is Nightfall is an excellent post-apocalyptic novella, it is one for if you are looking for a quick dose of, well-written, horror. Intriguing that it is the start of a six-part series. It is interesting to think that the horror-filled moments within this story are, quite literally, only the beginning of what’s to come. This is the story of John Hawthorne, and a world that has been plunged into eternal darkness. The night is in control.
”Tomorrow died on the last morning of May. There were those who saw it happen, who watched the shadow fall, who felt the chop of the guillotine as the world lost its head. Everyone else witnessed only the aftermath, for the event itself lasted no longer than a moment. They stepped outside from windowless rooms, they climbed up from crowded subways, they pulled back the blinds to let in the sun, and found the nightmare waiting for them.”

I was constantly going between feeling invested in these characters, to feeling annoyed with them. For starters, Sloane is cheated on by her ex-fiancè, Sterling, right before their wedding starts - why the hell is she still wearing the damn ring? Maybe it’s that the “childhood friends-to lovers” romance trope does feel a little tired at this point too, idk?
Jasper is very controlling and domineering in the bedroom, which makes for some ...more
