While both series are action-packed, feature hot alpha badasses, both male and female, the Killer Instincts Series is set in modern time, while The Outlaws series is dystopia in nature taking place in the future. Both feature hot romance, but The Outlaws Series takes it to a whole new level, making this an adults only dystopian novel that will blow your socks off. Ruled is the third book in the series, and I have enjoyed them all. These Outlaws are out to live their lives on their own terms, not controlled by the current government and the constraints it places on them. They are tough, determined, fierce, and take their pleasure when and where they can.
I loved Rylan in the previous novels, so needless to say I was really excited about him getting his own book. We've also met Reese in the previous novels, and have seen a little of Sloan as well. Rylan has had a thing for Reese for a while now, but she keeps shooting him down. Sloan and Reese's relationship is intense, but up until this point, hasn't crossed over into the physical. With Rylan on the scene things change, as does the relationship between Rylan, Sloan and Reese. That said, OMG is this ever hot.
Danger intensifies and choices have to be made, causing tension and conflict on a level that tests all of their resolve, loyalty, and love, with all kinds of hot romance in the mix. Ruled is an awesome addition to Elle Kennedy's Outlaws Series. Do keep in mind that this is a "very adult novel," not appropriate for younger readers. ...more
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this exciting series by Katie Ashley, Vicious Cycle, so I was more than excited to read Redemption Road. In VicI thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this exciting series by Katie Ashley, Vicious Cycle, so I was more than excited to read Redemption Road. In Vicious Cycle, we were introduced to the three Malloy brothers, Deacon, Rev, and Bishop, with Vicious Cycle being Deacon and Alexandra's story. Redemption Road is Nathaniel "Rev" Malloy and Annabelle's story. I wasn't really sure how I was going to feel about Rev, but I must say he won me over from the get go, and even when he messed up, I still rooted for him wholeheartedly to turn things around. Annabelle......wow, just wow, what an awesome character. I cannot imagine going through what she went through and coming out on the other side as the beautiful person she was, even though she had to go through hell to get there. She was like a plant whose roots had been severed and forced to become dormant, left for dead. Rev played a big role in helping her heal, but deep down it was her own character, resolve, love, and strength that enabled her to push through, opening the door to the healing she so desperately needed. Once again, she found the ability to receive love, give love, and fight for who and what she wanted, as those severed roots once again flourished, grew, and even began to bloom. Rev was like the water and sun....the catalyst that got things started, and providing the encouragement she needed to keep going.
Redemption Road starts off with a bang, and that tempo pretty much keeps up for the majority of the book. There are a few "normal (or as normal as you can get when you are part of a motorcycle club) moments," but for the most part, it was intense. Sometimes that intensity was manifested in the form of impending danger and the fear that brought with it, and sometimes it was centered on the developing relationship between Rev and Annabelle and all the things that went along with that, including the baggage from both of their pasts, her family and who they were, and the relationship that was changing into much more than friendship between them. Events, actions, choices, and regrets try to tear them apart. Then, just when it seems to all be coming together, Annabelle's greatest fear and the most dangerous situation they could face is suddenly upon them. Their love, faith, and trust, as well as that of the Raiders MC is put to the test as alliances are formed and deals are made, culminating in an edge of your seat nail-biting ending that is awesome. Katie Ashley closes out this installment so well, and sets the stage for the next book in the series, Last Mile, which I can't wait to read. That said, do I recommend Redemption Road? Most definitely....more

I jI love New Adult Contemporary Romance, so when I heard about this book, saw the cover, and found out it was about a hot hockey player, I was sold. I just love sports themed romances. Lincoln Caldwell is hot, of that there is no doubt, and yes, the ladies fall all over him, but who could blame them. He is also charming, and oh so very swoon-worthy. When Ever Montgomery wants to do a story on him, he is more than happy to oblige, because truth be told, he is a really great guy. Ever is friend of Emily's, and Emily is Linc's brother Nix's girlfriend. The interview takes place during a party that Linc is throwing for his teammates and their families and friends. Everything seems to go great, and Linc is in fact, very attracted to Ever, even asks her to dinner. Despite her best mental efforts, her body has ideas of her own and she finds herself quite attracted to Linc to. He really seems like a nice guy. Ever is coming out of a very bad breakup and declines the invite. While at the party, she sees several things, misinterprets some, and some she doesn't, but the end result is an article that is more like a expose painting Linc as shallow, a womanizer, and a player. Linc is irate when he reads the article and decides to take action. When given the choice of spending six weeks with him 24/7 or facing a lawsuit, Ever's editor sends her on the six-week assignment with Linc. In all sincerity, he really wants her to see the real him and what he's like, and even though he's mad at Ever, he is also looking forward to getting to know her better, and that is just what he does.
Ever soon realizes that she may have made a mistake as she gets to know Linc up close and personal. She is attracted to him physically, and the chemistry between them is undeniable. Linc is just as attracted to her, but he wants her to see him as someone other that a player, which provides for some very entertaining situations as they get to know each other better. I loved watching their relationship progress, but Ever has some serious issues that have left her emotionally scarred and she has built walls of ice around her heart that even the hottest of the hotties have a hard time melting. When push comes to shove and it's down to the wire, will Ever give in, or will she push Linc away for good? Off the Record is a very entertaining and steamy contemporary romance. I loved Linc...everything about him. Sawyer Bennett created the perfect guy when she wrote Linc's character, and she definitely has a talent for creating the best best book boyfriends. I felt so bad for Ever. She is really a good person who has had some really unfair situations thrown at her in life. You get a glimpse into the source of her pain in the beginning which enables you to understand where she is coming from. I did want to shake her a time or two and tell her to look at what was in front of her, but Ever has to progress through the journey of finding, giving, and receiving love and forgiveness at her own pace. If you are a contemporary romance fan and enjoy a good love story that is entertaining, sexy, fun, and an overall great read, then Off The Record and the whole Off Series by Sawyer Bennett is something I would definitely recommend checking out. ...more

I wasn't sure what to expect when I read the synopsis, but it sounded intriguing, so I wanted to read the book. I am happy to say I was very pleasantly surprised by this novel. The story centers around Alexis and her best friend Keats. Alexis is 18 years old and she and Keats are about to graduate from high school. They have been best friends since they were 6 years old. Alexis has always known she was different. For example, she is super smart and seems to know the answer to every question asked, she only sleeps two hours a night, and she has this thing about being outside and staring in the night, at the stars. Keats is also on the genius level himself, and has a great sense of humor. He has been her rock, the one who keeps her grounded and out of trouble, taking up for her, protecting her, her only friend.
When Alexis' mother is killed in a car accident shortly before they graduate, things seem to be set into motion that change her destiny forever. As Keats begin to investigate his theories regarding Alexis and her abilities they begin to uncover more than they bargained for. Alexis confronts her father regarding a memory and finds that he knows a lot more than he let on, and that her whole life is not what it seems. As she and Keats investigate further, they are lead into the world of Greek mythology, with Gods, demigods, the progeny. Alexis is determined to find the killer who destroyed her family, but a evil God is determined to find her and use her abilities for his own purposes, and uses the one she loves the most to try to manipulate her into doing is bidding. Will she be able to stand up to this evil God and save the one she loves before it is to late?
Alexis is one kick butt heroine, and Keats isn't too bad at holding his own in that arena either. She makes some bad choices, but she is honest, devoted, loyal, and determined. I enjoyed the relationship between Alexis and Keats. They were best friends, knew each other about as well as they knew themselves, and were completely devoted to one another. There isn't a whole lot of romance in the book, but Alexis finally realizes how she feels about Keats, and Keats finally determines that he is going to tell Alexis how he feels about her. After the history is laid in the first couple of chapters, there is pretty much nonstop action. This book is definitely fast-paced and really keeps your interest. I really enjoyed Segall's take on mythology, and the Weight of Night is filled with it. If you enjoy fantasy and mythology, then The Weight of Night is one book you won't want to miss. ...more

I mean the Converse tennis shoes, the title Sound Bites: A Rock & Roll Love Story, what's not to love. Renee and Justine have been best friends since they were 14 years old. They have done everything together. They even move to Los Angeles together and are roommates. Everything is going great. Renee, now 25, has the job she's always dreamed of, she's met a great guy, and she has her best friend with her. After returning to California from a visit home, she walks in to find Justine and David, her best friend and her boyfriend, in bed together. Renee's world is shattered. She leaves LA, her best friend, and her boyfriend behind and heads back home to Boston. After finding an apartment she could afford, and landing a job that she hates, she ends up backing into a van at her apartment complex, and this van is owned by Dylan Cavallari. Renee thinks Dylan is a big jerk. He's rude and outspoken, seems to think he is God's gift to women, and he has a trashy girlfriend. Then one night she hears music and singing, really great singing, and she has to find out where it is coming from. When she knocks on the door to the apartment where the music is coming from, who answers? You guessed it, Dylan. It turns out they have a lot more in common than they think, especially regarding rock and roll. Renee finds herself falling in love with Dylan, but does Dylan feel the same way? This is their story. A story of love, heartbreak, misunderstanding, forgiveness, and rock and roll.
I really enjoyed this book. It is an entertaining contemporary romance. Renee, who is the main character in the book, faces several crises in her life, most of which are centered around relationships. Her relationship with her best friend, her relationship with her boyfriend, her relationship with her family, and her relationship with Dylan. They go through good times and bad times, laughter and tears, heartbreak, forgiveness, and learning to trust again. While I would like to have seen a little more romantic moments, the story was really compelling. It is an adult romance, but also has the feel of an older YA book. If you are a fan of contemporary romance with the added bonus of a rock and roll element, you will love Sound Bites. ...more

We were introduced to the Merrick brothers in Elemental, which centered on Michael, the eldest of the four brothers, who is an earth Elemental. Storm primarily focused on the youngest of the Merrick brothers, Chris, who is a water Elemental, but we got to know all four of them a whole lot better. In Fearless, a novella, we get to find out more about their friend Hunter and his background. In Spark, the story focuses on Gabriel, one of the twins, who is a very powerful fire Elemental. His twin brother Nick, is an air Elemental.
Unlike his brothers, Gabriel's element is far more difficult to harness and control, which often leads to "mishaps." Chris has Becca now, and Nick is dating Quinn, which sometimes makes Gabriel feel left out. After a big fight with Nick, Gabriel and Hunter begin to hang out together more. A new math teacher also figures out that Gabriel and Nick have been switching places to take tests, and Gabriel is forced to either learn the math or get off the basketball team. Layne, who seems like the nerdy super smart type, becomes a source of interest for Gabriel and ends up helping to tutor him. Gabriel discovers that behind that braid, glasses, and turtleneck is a beautiful girl and he is falling hard for her. Layne has her own secrets and issues to deal with. Unfortunately, her father can't stand Gabriel and has ordered both Layne and her little brother to stay away from him. As Hunter and Gabriel get more involved in a series of suspicious incidents that are occurring, things get turned around and Gabriel ends up under suspicion himself. As the situation escalates, hidden threats emerge and once again, the lives of the Merrick brothers and those they love are threatened.
I have to say I absolutely love the Merrick brothers, all of them. They are such hotties. Brigid Kemmerer has outdone herself again in Spark. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Gabriel more in this book. There is so much more to him that he lets on in Storm. Sometimes I wanted to shake him, and other times I just wanted to hug him. I really liked Layne to. Despite all the the hard things life has dealt her, she still goes on. The relationship between Gabriel and Layne was really sweet, but also hot. They are perfect for each other. We get to see some new characters/villains come into play in this story also. Despite the tension in Gabriel's relationship with his bothers, they really came through for him. True to form, Brigid Kemmerer has provided her readers with nonstop action, mystery, romance, and plenty of twists and turns that keep you guessing. Spark is another great addition to the Elemental series and is something you won't want to miss. ...more
