This book is profound, heartbreaking, and masterfully told. James Baldwin writes in such a way that his stories and characters feel more real than fictional.

TheThe Tale of Peter Rabbit was one of the first books my mom ever read to me. It has been a comfort read of mine even before I could read it myself.
The other day I watched the 2006 movie "Miss Potter", which tells the story of the inspiring artist and author who gave the world Peter Rabbit and many other animal friends! The film was enchanting and simply perfect! It had a stunning soundtrack, iconic artwork, books, romance, friendship, nature and the English countryside! What more could I ask for? (My favorite things all in one film!)
While watching, I wanted to do three things: illustrate, read, and write! The three things that make up who I am, and the three things that made up who Beatrix was! As Anne Shirley would say, I have a kindred spirit in her!
Re-reading this book took all of 5 minutes, but it's impact has lasted me for a lifetime!...more

This was my first time re-reading it in a non-academic setting, and it was equally if not more amazing than the first time!
This collection also has The Rocking Chair and Old Water which is also found incredibly groundbreaking and thought provoking!!! These stories oppose the typical "fair maiden comes to a tragic death" trope, (which is found in almost every Shakespeare play...although I love them) and has the "striking and dominant man" meet his demise! I greatly admire Charlotte Perkins Gilman for writing such bold stories in a time where these tropes were of great reality for women!
She and this book are brilliant!!! This is a must read!!!...more

In all honesty, I didn't expect to love this book as much as I now do! My favorite stories are the ones that make me feel a myriad of emotions, which is exactly what reading Don Quixote did! I laughed at almost every chapter, felt tearful by the end, and adored them the whole way through! This is a groundbreaking work of fiction, and I feel honored to have read it! To think that some of my favorite "classic" writers have also read this story fills my heart with joy! To think that Tolstoy, Dickens, Dostoevsky, and so many others have read it as well!!!
I wish to thank Cervantes for bringing me along on all of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza's adventures and misadventures!!! It was quite the quest!...more
When I tell you I love everything Fredrik Backman writes ,I genuinely mean I love EVERYTHING Fredrik Backman writes!!!!! I bought this book the secondWhen I tell you I love everything Fredrik Backman writes ,I genuinely mean I love EVERYTHING Fredrik Backman writes!!!!! I bought this book the second it was published in November of 2020! I raced to the bookshop and felt a thrill when I held it in my hands! Then, naturally, I proceeded to not read it for more than a year! I knew I’d love it, because I love absolutely everything Fredrik Backman writes! The only other book of his I haven’t read yet is Brit Marie Was Here, mainly because I don’t want to not have an unread Backman book on my shelves! Luckily he’s still writing and I get to look forward to new releases, but I still didn’t want to pick the book up and finish it! Well, clearly I finally did! And I still have Brit Marie waiting for me on my shelf, so I don’t feel entirely at a loss for unread Backman books!
So, Anxious People, where do I even begin! What I love about this story and his writing, besides absolutely everything, is his humor! This book deals with quite heavy and important topics, but every page is full of laughter and the silliness of our “idiot” human minds! He kept explaining what this book was about, and I loved that! It’s about: a bank robbery, a hostage drama, an apartment viewing, a bridge, but most certainly, it’s about idiots! All it takes is one really idiotic idea! What Backman does so brilliantly, is show that we’re all idiots in our own way! This books is in fact about all those things I just mentioned, but mainly, it’s about how everyone is just trying to live their life the best they can! Sometimes life makes us do really idiotic things, especially when it comes to the people we love!
I couldn’t put this book down! The past few days, while reading this story, life left like a series obstacle keeping me from reading it, and that’s one of the best feelings! This book is also about caring for people you barely know. What I find even more beautiful, is how as readers we not only care for people we barely know, but for people who don’t even exist! These people were made up by one person, who we also barely know, but through a collection of words, it feels like we’ve known them all our lives! Life does make us do really idiotic things, especially when it comes to reading! (I will continue to not read Brit Marie, because I don’t want to not have an unread Backman book on my shelves! Yes, that’s absolutely idiotic!)
Please please please read this book, as well as all of his other books!
Thank you Fredrik Backman! Sincerely, An idiot :)...more

...as if I couldn't love E.M. Forster even more!!! That fact that one of my favorite authors (Forster) has also read and loved the same books as I have just makes my heart sing!
Going into this book, I thought it was going to be a type of "guide to writing fiction." Well, I can happily say that I was very wrong. I did know I would love this book because it's a written transcript of his Cambridge lectures. What I didn't expect was for it to feel like a love letter to other classic books and authors! Something that made me smile, was how humble E. M. Forster was! He honestly didn't consider himself a "great" writer, which makes me adore him even more. I wish I could travel back in time and tell him just how great he was and still is! His books have impacted so many people and have stood the test of time. In these lectures he spoke about Dickens, Austen, the Brontë sisters, and so many more classic authors. What he didn't realize then, is that he is now among them! If only I could have been one of the many lucky people sitting in on these lectures. My dream of being an Oxford student came alive while reading. Instead of instructing "how to write fiction" or "the art of fiction," he chose to consider what made a novel "a novel." These lectures weren't a "how to" but a "what is." By picking apart these "aspects," he shows us the beauty of narrative storytelling. To accompany these aspects, he selected certain books and read excerpts to prove his point. By doing this, he was able to illustrate each aspect and give them backing. I not only found this incredibly inspiring as an aspiring writer, but as an avid read! This book can also be looked at as a curated reading list from Forster himself. I have added so books to my TBR because of his wonderful words about them! What's better than getting book recommendations from one of your favorite authors? ... Well know that I think about it, it would be even better to talk with them face to face!

I absolutely loved this book so much! I think we can all agree that Jane Austen was and remains to be a genius!! She writes characters in the most unique ways; where they feel more like caricatures than real people. I think my two favorite character's were: Mr. Woodhouse because I have a weird affinity for elderly men (probably because I used to work at a nursing home) ...and of course Mr. Knightley or should I say Mr. Knight-in-shining-armor, because he was the real savior of this book. Which leads to my one and only gripe with this book... I wanted more Mr. Knightley and less Mr. and Mrs. Elton. Although, I do think they were essential to the plot. Since each unlikable or disagreeable character enhances the characters that we as the readers are meant to root for. Something Jane Austen is known for, which I absolutely love about her books, is that even though her books are third person omniscient the narrator takes on the essence of the character being spoken about. Meaning that although her books are usually in third person, they almost feel like multiple first person point of views! I could go on and on!! But the last thing I have to say is that I adored Emma Woodhouse! Her faults were so distinct, that I couldn't help but love her anyway! Can't wait for my next Austen!...more

This book is incredibly special to me for so many reasons... Let's name them! 1) Because when I read and watched Call Me By Your Name for the first time, the book and film both truly impacted me in a way very few books/films do. 2) André Aciman's way of writing, both lyrical and philosophical, makes me think and question things about life and love that are simple yet profound. 3) I feel a special bond with the setting since my ancestors come from Italy and being Italian is of course a very important part of my life and my family. 4) I got the chance to go and meet André in Brooklyn the day this book was released. 5) Hearing him talk about this story that I love so much was unforgettable. 6) He read an excerpt from this book that left me in tears even before I read the book myself. 7) How this story honors classical music, which reminds me of my grandfather who's passion for Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and many more musicians, has been passed down to me. 8) I love how intellectual this book is without being pompous or overdone. I love a book that challenges the intellect. 9) The way André Aciman made Samuel an even bigger part of this book. I adore Sami and loved to read from his perspective! 10) Simply everything!...more
