For the hard-core readers of this series, this installment doesn't disappoint.
Mercy is still recuperating from the attack she suffered in the last book. She is not doing well. Her mind and her magic were affected by the Soul Taker. No one really knows how to fix her.
Adam knows she is not well but no one he knows can help her.
Then, Mercy's half-brother, Gary shows up. He is unable to talk or comprehend. Something happened to him while he was taking care of a ranch in Montana. Despite her own problems, Mercy knows she has to help him.
Mercy and Adam decide to take a trip to Montana to find the answers. Their trip is not an easy one. The winter storm is a powerful one. Someone is behind it. But why? By whom?
As they arrive at the Lounge, they are met by a wedding party. It's not a typical one. Mercy and Adam come to the realization that more than Gary's life is in danger.
I love Mercy and Adam together. They have learned to trust each other and to let the other be independent when the right occasion arises. My one complaint is that I missed the rest of the pack and I also miss Bran.

Toadling was taken by faeries when she was born. She was raised in the water in fairyland. She loved the monsters that lived there as her own family. Then, she is retaken from the water that she loves and told that she must be educated. Furthermore, she is told that she must go back to the human world and give a blessing to a child.
Due to her inexperience, the blessing she performs turns into a curse. As the years pass and the danger grows, Toadling decides to do what must be done to stop worse things from happening.
Centuries later, Toadling's isolation is interrupted when a knight stops by trying to break the curse. Toadling thinks he would be better off staying away but she can't seem to make him leave and starts looking forward to spending time with him. But can she let him break the curse?
I like the writing, the descriptions, and the main character, Toadling. Yet, I did feel like the end was underwhelming.

VenCo is about an organization of witches. The whole premise is based on the belief that if seven special witches get together, women will become more powerful.
Lucky St James is the sixth witch. She is living in Toronto with her grandmother who is suffering from cognitive changes when she is found by Venco. Lucky is in possession of a special spoon that has the letters Salem inscribed in it. As soon as Lucky touches the spoon, she feels differently. When VenCo comes knocking she accepts traveling from Canada to the USA to meet a possible employer. She brings her grandmother with her and when they arrive at their destination they meet five women who are living together. Here is where Lucky learns she is a witch and she has to find the last spoon and the witch who will complete their coven. But, things are not easy, an ancient being is on the prowl. His name is Jay Christos, and he wants all the witches to die. He is responsible for the death of many and he is on the hunt for the last seven.
The book had a very slow beginning, only the last third had some action. I wished we had seen more of their powers and their backstories than what we got. The ending felt a little rushed. Yet, overall I enjoyed the story.

Zoey Hennessey finds herself moving from Tulsa to Mallow Island in South Carolina. She'll be there until she starts college. The condo was left to her by her mother, Paloma who died when she was young.
Paloma used to love going to Mallow Island and Zoey is hoping to find out more about her mother at the Dellawisps. The building's name comes from the small turquoise birds that inhabit the courtyard. On her arrival, the apartment manager, Frasier takes her to her condo and Zoey realizes there is nothing left behind by her mother. Yet, her disappointment is not long-lasting.
Zoey will get to know the other owners of the condos including Charlotte (henna artist), Mac (chef), Lizbeth (eccentric, hoarder), Lucy (Lizbeth's sister and a recluse), Frasier, and Lizbeth's son. The readers will also meet the ghosts too.
It was a sweet story despite the painful background of each character. I love Zoey's innocence and the way she is able to connect with all the other characters. In a way, she helps them heal and move forward, with some of them finding romance too.

Four neighbors, Melissa, Jess, Liz, and Amy have become friends for the last few years. They meet monthly to hang out, watch a movie and have some drinks. Liz is excited about starting the construction of her She-Shed. A place where all of them can enjoy some alone time, away from their kids and husbands.
Unfortunately, it seems that more than dirt is unearthed when the building commences. Suddenly, Liz's personality changes. Looming darkness begins to surround their neighborhood. Accidents happened. The friends all can feel the danger they are in but how can they help Liz?
Suburban Hell was a good tale for this month of October. It was fun and entertaining. I liked that their friendship was the driving force to help Liz. Those were good friends!!

Someone is targeting the Brown children.
Stacy Brown has been Toby’s very good friend since they were little and jumping in to rescue her kids is not a question. This "case" is not easy for Toby but as a Hero of the Realm, she must do what is expected of her. Yet, she is not alone. Tybalt will be with her. But can he really help?
Be the Serpent is UF at it's best. It has the Fae, shocking twists, a funny side, and drama with very sad parts. It also finishes with a cliffhanger!!!
I can only say: Be ready, be prepared.
One thing I will say and I never thought I would: I love Simon. He keeps on getting better. Who would have thought that was possible after reading book 1, Rosemarie and Rue?
I can't spoil the novel for you so I will not tell you who is responsible for the chaos that Toby has to fight through. Although, I think some of us have a guess. I also think I know who is the other missing part of the equation and I'm guessing she will reveal herself in the next installment.
The wait until These Violent Delights is going to kill me.......

There are 3 women going through changes in their lives:
Nessa James is a widow who used to work as a nurse and whose twin girls have left for college. She is alone now and she has started to hear voices. The voices are getting louder. Her grandmother had a gift and it seems like Nessa shares it. She can hear the dead. Specifically, young women calling for her to find them.
Second, there is Jo Levison who was an executive and now is the owner of the local gym for women. She's miserable experiencing her menopausal symptoms including rage and hot flashes. She feels like she is burning up and she feels like she could start a fire from the heat she is experiencing.
Lastly, there is Harriett Osborne. She left her job in marketing and her husband left her and asked for a divorce. The neighborhood men and the homeowners association's president can't believe her front lawn is looking like a jungle and they want Harriett to fix it. They don't care about the rumors that say she is a witch. But Harriet is finally realizing who she is. Her power is transforming her. She knows nature can heal or kill and all the plants in her garden serve a purpose.
When Nessa discovers a female teenager's body by the beach and she can see two other dead girls close to the corpse, she understands they are all dead and with the help of Jo and Harriet hopefully, they can find the killer or killers and bring them to justice. Stopping the men who are responsible and punishing them is part of the equation.
The Change is an entertaining novel with fantastic characters and a dose of magic. These three women were a perfect team! I liked listening to their voices. Understanding where they were coming from and how their powers manifested. I was more than ready for their sweet revenge.

So if you are a true fan, you know that Toby will finally marry Tybalt. We also know that she will be stabbed at least once before she gets married. Or by the end of the ceremony, her wedding gown will have blood all over it. Why? Because October Daye brings chaos wherever she goes! (Thinking about a crossover between my favorite UF's heroines, Mercy (Pat Briggs) and Toby could be a disaster together or maybe it would be a great team!!)
Toby's wedding is happening at High Court. Toby had never wanted to be involved in the details of her wedding. She has let her friend from childhood Stacy, her Fetch, May, Tybalt, and Kerry take control. It is not that she doesn't want to marry Tybalt. For her, the whole idea of a big wedding is not what she wants but she understands the importance of following protocol.
Of course, once they get to Toronto, immediately someone is murdered and Toby as the hero of the realm needs to put a stop to whatever plan is cooking. By her side, she will have the support of Quentin and Tybalt. This demonstrated how mature she has become. Toby has realized she doesn't need to be alone anymore. She can trust people close to her and she can't stop barging into situations blindly where she always gets hurt. (It only took a bunch of books but who is complaining?)
I love When Sorrows Come. It had me smiling and laughing. It also made me turn the pages fast enough to find out who was behind the attacks. I love these characters, and seeing Toby and Tybalt happy made my day!
I'm not sure if we only get two more books or if Seanan McGuire has decided to write more books in this series. I just hope that I can find out more about Stacy and Quentin's future, Raj becoming the King of Cats, Guillian sharing time with her mother, Simon becoming a true father to Toby, Luna and Sylvester apologizing for the wrongs against Toby, May getting married, The Luidaeg getting free from the geas bindings and so many more questions I have.

Short Story at the end of the book:
And With Reveling
The short story happens just after the ceremony. It's the wedding reception. It should really be the epilogue. You can't find it in the audiobook but it is on kindle ebook.
Toby and Tybalt get seven formal blessings as newlyweds which I'm guessing in Faerie, is a big deal. Hopefully, all those will protect them from what is yet to come.
My favorite part is how Tybalt deals with Sylvester. As many of you know, he has not treated Toby right.
Sylvester transferred his gaze to Tybalt. “You’ve never liked me,” he said.
“This is true. To be fair, you were once the man who stood between me and the woman I loved, and then became the man who treated the girl I found fascinating without half the respect that she deserved.”
I read this short story back in 2018 but I guess I forgot to review it. I reread it (it only takes 10 minutes) and found it still to be adorable.

It is a cute story about Harry Dresden putting together a gift for his daughter, Maggie on Christmas Eve. His dog Mouse is with him. This is going to be their first Christmas together and he wants it to be a special one. A few characters drop by including Mab.
