“Is that Weather, like ‘Stormy Weather’?”
In Winter Prey, we have Lucas Davenport assisting the police with a murder case during a terrible winter in Wisconsin.
A family has been murdered and their house has been burnt. A photograph of a man and underage high school kid points to the reason for their demise. When the local Sheriff calls Lucas for help, he can't resist. Lucas is bored and his video games and life at the cabin are not enough to entertain him.
The baddie on this one goes by the name of the "Iceman". A cold-blooded killer who will stop at nothing until he can save himself from being discovered.
Lucas Davenport keeps on growing on me. He can be petulant, but he can be funny too. I love how in this one, Lucas meets a woman, Weather Karkinnen who seemed to be one step ahead of Lucas with her comebacks and sarcasm.
I also enjoyed (from the warmth of my home) how John Sandford makes winter a character in itself with freezing temperatures and winter storms making the chase for the killer even a more difficult one.

Silent Prey follows Lucas as a consultant this time for the NYPD.
Lily Rothenburg comes to Minnesota to ask Lucas to come to her city to catch Bekker, the deranged criminal from Eyes of Prey who escaped during his trial to NYC. Dekker is not only killing his victims but he's also publishing articles about his "medical findings".
For her part, Lily wants Lucas to help her with her own investigation into a group of possible rogue cops nicknamed, Robin Hood who are murdering people who they consider dangerous. When one of Lily's cop friends, Walter Petty, who's investigating Robin Hood gets murdered, it makes it personal for her.
Silent Prey was easy to enjoy. Even though I haven't liked Lucas because of his philandering ways, he's starting to change or at least he's trying. He's still an arse but not a complete one. He does make me laugh and he's a true detective. I like how he pieces things together and he always gets to surprise me with something.
I wasn't a fan of Bekker and in this one, he was even weirder. I have no clue how a psychopath like him who was always high on so many things could even move, let alone plan and abduct anyone.
The Robin Hood storyline was much more interesting to me than the Bekker one. Sandford made no one safe and that kept my interest going.
I've decided to stick with this series and hope for the best.
As soon I saw the word Highlander, my finger was requesting this book.
What is not to love about the Scottish men I ask you?
Anyway, A Highlander Walks into a Bar is my first novel by Laura Trentham.
In this novel, our main character, Isabel "Izzy" Buchanan is preparing for the yearly Highland Games her father started many years ago. This for her is a way to keep the memory of her father alive. She usually has her mother, Rose to help her with it but this year, her mother has taken a trip to Scotland.
When Izzy goes to the airport to pick up her mother, she finds herself getting the surprise of her life. Her mother is not alone. She has a brought with her a Scottish man by the name of Gareth. Izzy is wary about his motives but she can't say no to inviting them to their home, Stonehaven after seeing her mother so happy and acting younger in spirit while around him.
Then, another Scottman comes to ring their doorbell. His name is Alasdair Blackmoor and he's here to see his "friend" Gareth. Alasdair works in London for an investment company. His real motive to come down to Highland, Georgia is to make sure his uncle Gareth is not been taking advantage of. Alasdair is not happy with his current life but he's not sure what can he do to change it. His vision becomes crystal clear once he meets Izzy and he realizes he needs to make major changes in his life if he wants to be happy.
I wish I had enjoyed this book more than I did. Here are some of the things which prevented me from loving it: The beginning was too slow for me. Most of the time, I couldn't connect with the two main characters. Their insta-love was a big turn off for me.
This is just my opinion. Hopefully, it doesn't deter you from reading it and enjoying it.

This series has ended with a BANG!
The ending was priceless and memorable.
I can tell you, I think this author is a master of deceit. I was sure who the bad guy was and then poof, I was wrong and then the guy I thought was a good one, was not. Or wait, maybe the bad guy was the bad guy after all or ....so u see my point. A complete mind play.
J. D. Baker does such a fantastic job in this series. The suspense and the writing were phenomenal. At some point, he had me rooting for Anson. A total psychopath but whom I wanted some type of happiness after everything he had to endure. It helps that we get glimpses of Anson as a teenager and the crush he had on Libby helped humanize him for me.
Sam Porter, what can I say? He was a very interesting character. I liked him from the very beginning of the 4MK series. Smart, likable, a nice boss with great powers of deduction. He was still mourning the loss of the only woman he had ever loved. In the Sixth Wicked Child, he gets himself into a corner. He's in deep trouble and I wasn’t sure I could or should trust him.
The secondary characters like Clair, Nash, Agent Poole and Kloz were all very well-developed. They complemented Anson and Sam's in every way possible.
I don't think I want to say anything else because a lot of it could be spoilers.
Thank you so much Hampton Creek Press for my free digital copy of The Sixth Wicked Child.

Lucas Davenport has not been the same since his last few cases. His head hasn't been right since then. He has lost his relationship with his girlfriend, Jennifer and he barely sees his kid. He went into a major depression but maybe getting back on the job is the one thing that can help him.
When Dell, another cop, asks Lucas to look into the murder of one of his cousin's, Lucas decides to put his personal problems aside and help Dell. Dell thinks the husband, Michael Bekker did it. Bekker is a doctor, a well-known pathologist, but he's a strange bird. Everyone who Lucas approaches about Bekker thinks Bekker is the responsible party but he has a great alibi. Bekker was in a different state when his wife was murdered.
One look at Michael Bekker and Lucas know there's more to the story. Then a theater manager is murdered and her eyes are gouged just like Bekker's wife. The plot thickens when Lucas believes there is a second killer involved. Lucas wishes for "Loverboy", the sole witness to Bekker's wife murder, to come forward.
Lucas will have his hands full trying to piece together these murders.
Carlo Druze and Michael Bekker were a weird couple of psychopaths. Michael was obsessed with death and what comes after. He was hooked on all types of drugs which at times made me doubt his capacity for him having any logical thought process and fooling the police. Carlo had no qualms with killing but it was kind of strange for him to befriend Bekker. He knew Bekker was crazy but he did everything Bekker wanted him to do despite knowing it could bring trouble to his doorstep.
When I started the series, I didn't like Lucas but he was able to bring out plenty of emotions from me. He made me angry with his philandering ways. He made me upset when he didn't blink an eye when he was breaking the law. Yes, his purpose was all about catching a criminal but I was expecting him to do it by the book. He also made me laugh many times and he made me feel bad for him at certain times too. In this book, John Sandford has made him more likable. Not that he didn't use violence and still broke the law, but for me, he has finally realized his actions have consequences.
I'm guessing, Lucas will continue to grow on me since I've many more books to get to.
Eyes of Prey ends with an amazing twist. One, I never saw coming until the very end. I wonder if this will come back out on a future book.
As a side note, this book has a lot of violence and gory details, so if you're squeamish, this might not be the book to start this series with.

It's not a secret that The Friend Zone was one of my favorite books of 2019. It was such a good story that I thought how can Abby Jimenez top that? This was the main reason why I had reservations about reading The Happy Ever After Playlist. I was so worried it was not going to meet or surpass my expectations.
It turns out, I didn't need to worry. I ended up loving it. The ending is now on the list of my favorite endings of all time. While I was reading it, I was a mess. I cried, I laughed. I might even have applauded (a little bit).
The Happy Ever After Playlist begins with Sloan, Kristen's friend from The Friend Zone, finding a lost dog by the name of Tucker. During the next few days, Sloan tries to find his owner. She leaves voicemail after voicemail until she gives up and decides to keep the dog. Then, Jason, Tucker's owner who has been in Australia, returns her calls and begs her to give him his dog back. At first, Sloan is not too sure he can be trusted but Jason explains he's a singer and has been away for a while and he left his dog with someone he thought he could count on. This conversation leads to more phone calls and texts between these characters for the next few days which leads to AMAZING banter!
Between Tucker and Jason's presence, Sloan begins to awaken from her two-year grief. A grief so deep she had become a shell of the woman she used to be. As Sloan starts feeling better and maybe thinking a relationship with Jason could work, his fame explodes and in order to stay together, hard choices have to be taken or even harder ones to stay apart.
I love so much the banter Sloan and Jason had. They had chemistry out the wazoo. Both characters were likable and I was rooting for their happy ever after (playlist). Yes, there was a part I wasn't too happy about but I understand why it happened. It did lead to the resolution of the conflict which was a pure MAGICAL moment (this is probably where I started clapping).
In regards to Sloan's interaction with Kristen, it was absolutely refreshing. Two best friends who lift each other up (and not down for a change). Their antics had me in stitches. Also, getting a glimpse of Kristen and Josh's happiness was a fantastic treat for this reader.
I hope Abby Jimenez brings a third book as amazing as this one soon.

What are you?”
“Chaos,”
Patricia Briggs never ceases to amaze me. Her world-building is extraordinary. She keeps on bringing new spectacular characters into the fold.
In Smoke Bitten, there are a few things that are going wrong in the Mercyverse.
For starters:
-A new being is trying to kill Mercy (nothing new there, right?).
-A pack of werewolves is trying to take over Adam's territory.
-Wulfe decides to tell Mercy something she doesn't want to hear.
-Last but not least, Adam and Mercy's mate bond has gone silent.
How can anything go wrong with these events happening simultaneously? I mean, Mercy is right when she says she's Chaos. She should advertise it with neon lights. Of course, Coyote is part to blame.
From the moment I opened the first page, I knew it was going to be a rollercoaster of events. There is non-stop action and poor Mercy is always in the middle of it. She has to deal with Fae, Underhill, Vampire and Werewolf politics to mention a few.
From the above, the one that annoyed me the most was the Pack issues.
For how long are they going to question her motives and when are they going to completely accept her?
Hasn't she proven her loyalty and love for Adam?
I wanted to give some of these werewolves a big slap on the face. I'm getting tired of their attitude. I almost got mad with Adam too until I understood what was going on with him.
One passage in Smoke Bitten made me wonder what might happen in the next book. I'm not sure it was intentional or I'm just reading too much into it. I guess I could only hope. If it happens, that could be explosive all way around.
(view spoiler)[“I wonder if Hannah’s granny’s fae blood is the reason that Kelly and Hannah have so many kids,” Adam mused. “Though it seems like the fae blood should work against them, because the fae have more trouble reproducing than werewolves do.”
“Maybe it’s Hannah’s granny’s secret ingredient,” I told him. “Take one sip before bedtime as needed for conception.” (hide spoiler)]
I love Mercy, Adam, Ben, Jesse, Stephan and so many more. I'm not sure what I'll do when Patricia Briggs decides to stop writing these characters. It will be a sad, sad day.

When I began reading Wolfhunter River, I wasn't sure which way Rachel Caine was going to be taking Gwen Proctor's character. Yet, a couple of chapters into it, I was sure the ride had to be a good one. If you read the first two books in this series, you know a big baddie is no longer a threat to her or her family.
In case, you're not reading them in order, Gwen Proctor is the ex-wife of the famous serial killer, Melvin Royal. She changed her name and the name of her kids after Melvin was convicted. She moved many times and lately, Stillhouse Lake, is what she calls home. Her kids, Lanie and Connor have confronted many ugly things since learning about their father and they had to grow up sooner than they should have.
Wolfhunter River begins with Gwen agreeing to do a live interview on a TV show, but getting ambushed in the process. The only thing productive that surfaces from the interview was discovering that a new enemy is out to get her and her family. A woman's from Sam's past is making it clear that this is war.
When Gwen receives a call for help from the town of Wolfhunter, at first she doesn't want to do much. The second time someone calls her from the same town, she knows she has to go and maybe it's time for the whole family to leave Stillhouse Lake for a while.
In Wolfhunter, nothing goes the way it should. The town reeks of deceit, abuse of power, and endangered lives. It's up to Gwen and her family to uncover the evil.
Kudos to Rachel Caine for writing another entertaining book in this series. I like Gwen, she's not a doormat. She's strong and she will fight for her kids until her last breath. The kids are also becoming more involved in the process. Connor is smart and handy with a computer. Lanie is protective of her younger sibling. She tries to keep him safe.
I'm excited to see what is going to happen in the next one, now that I know how this one ended. Gwen is going to open so many can of worms! I'm sure I don't want to miss it.

Well, Shadow Prey was underwhelming. There wasn't as much action as with Rules of Prey. The last third had a faster pace and it kept my attention.
In Shadow Prey, we have Lucas Davenport investigating a series of murders done by Native Americans. The attacks seem to be coordinated by a pair of brothers, Sam and Aaron Crow and committed by different individuals including Shadow Love. Once the media and the FBI get involved, everything becomes much more dangerous.
Lucas' personal life seems to be stable. He's with Jennifer Carey and they have a daughter together. Yet, we know this won't last. Lucas is a womanizer. He "loves" women and can't live without them. He's unable to be faithful.
When one of the slayings involves the city of NYC, a NY cop is sent to assist with the investigation. This is how Lily Rothenberg becomes Lucas' sidekick.
The first time Lucas sees Lily, he knows she's his next conquest.
I had some issues with the plot. I wish John Sanford would've explained more about why the Crows had taken the time to plan and coordinate the attacks. I felt like it was glossed over which is a shame because the slayings were done with purpose and the readers should be clear on why.
I liked Lucas much less in this one. He didn't care about Jennifer's feelings. He just looks at a woman and he decides he's going to convince her to be with him. He doesn't care if she's married. He doesn't care about the consequences. He didn't even care about the case while he was trying to get into Lily's pants. Quite a disappointment. I do wonder if he will learn from his mistakes in later books.
My recommendation for any reader is to wear their 90's hat when they read this series. It will avoid a lot of irritation.
I'm committed to the Lucas Davenport books, so Eyes of Prey is next for me.

The last third of Killman Creek was a pounding frenzy!
In the beginning, I wasn't sure where Rachel Caine was going with her story. The end of the first book finishes in a cliffhanger. Gwen, ex-husband, the well-known serial killer, Melvin Royal is on the loose. He has escaped prison and he's targetting Gwen and her children.
Gwen has to make a decision. Does she wait like a sitting duck or does she go on the offense and try to find Melvin first. She decides on the later. She and Sam embarked on a trip to find Melvin. She leaves her children, Lanny and Connor behind in the care of her trusted friends.
Regretfully, Gwen's plan is always getting interrupted by Absalom and his cronies. Her enemies seem to always be one step ahead of her and Sam.
While Gwen is looking for Melvin, at home, her children are not safe despite good people trying to protect them. Gwen knows she must go back home but then a video surfaces that changes everything.
Killman Creek is written in multiple POV's. We have Gwen, Sam, Lanny and Connor narrating the book. It was a really good second installment. Like I said earlier, the last third of the book was incredible. Everything was moving in fast motion. I was scared for Gwen, Sam and the children. Melvin was nothing but an evil man. An evil man who didn't care if her children were collateral damage.
I was pleased with the end but I know there has to be more evil people lurking around for Gwen and her family.
The question is going to be who's going to try to get to her next.

I didn't read Eliza and Johnny's novel, The Hookup, but I had a chance to read The Slow Burn in between my ARCS. The end result: I'm disappointed.
The title of this novel has the perfect name. I found the narrative to be slow, rambling and repetitive. I lost count of how many "Babes", "Honey" and "Let-me-tell-you-how-things-are-going-to-go-because-I'm-the-alpha-here" there were. I just don't see the conversations coming from a guy's mouth to go the way KA writes them in this book.
There was absolutely no major drama or obstacle for this couple. The first time they meet, they are already half in love with each other. So kind of an insta-love situation.
For me, The Slow Burn was saved by some specific scenes. Toby with Addie's child, Brooks. Toby with Johnny talking about the "mother" they had growing up. Eliza and Addie's interactions as sisters, the Gamble brothers listening to their women talking over the phone with their estranged dad and the Epilogue.
I just can't believe this is the same writer who wrote FOUR of my favorite series, Rock Chick, Dream Man, Chaos, and Colorado Mountain.
What happened to KA? Or is it me who just can't connect with her writing anymore? I have to tell you, for a book lover, there's nothing worse than disliking one of your favorite writer's novels.

I wanted to start a new police thriller and I had this book in my library for a long time. I heard good things about this series and I thought it was time to give it a go.
The serial killer in Rules of Prey goes by the name of the Maddog. He's a horrible person who does horrible things to women. He's also hard to catch and after killing his victims, he leaves a note behind:
"Never have a motive." "Never follow a discernible pattern." "Never carry a weapon after it has been used." "Beware of leaving physical evidence."
Lucas Davenport is the cop who's called to help catch him. He's a different type of cop. He's the only member of the Office of Special Intelligence. Besides being rich, the lieutenant is smart, dresses in expensive suits, he's handsome, drives a Porche, owns a lake house, invents board games in his free time, has a nun as his best friend and he loves to bed women. He also has killed five people which we're not sure of the circumstances this has happened.
A few times, I had to remind myself that I was reading a book published in the 1990s. There were many things that I wouldn't agree with if this book was written now but for the most part, it made me laugh and the suspense was great too! I ended up liking Lucas in spite of him being a womanizer and a liar. He was determined to catch this killer and he was ready to use whatever method was necessary to accomplish his goal.
I'm going to continue this series and see where Lucas Davenport ends. After all, there are 28 more books to go.
Amos Decker, the man with a perfect recall memory, is back in his hometown. But the visit is not a happy one. He is back in Burlington, Ohio to visit Amos Decker, the man with a perfect recall memory, is back in his hometown. But the visit is not a happy one. He is back in Burlington, Ohio to visit the gravesite of his daughter who would have been fourteen.
While at the cemetery with his FBI partner, Alex Jamison, Meryl Hawkins shows up. Meryl is the first man Decker and his police partner Mary Lancaster ever put behind prison bars years ago when he was just a rookie. Meryl is there to tell him that he was innocent. He says that he didn't kill those men and the children. He asks Amos to find out the true murderers. The next day, Hawkins is found murdered. Amos knows he needs to investigate even if this means he could lose his consulting position with the FBI. His boss is not happy with him and neither are some of the cops he used to deal with.
A great addition to the Amos Decker series. Many dead bodies and a sense that Amos was always two steps behind the real killers, kept the story moving and interesting to this reader.
I still have two more books to catch up but Lucas Davenport had kept me busy for a long time.

"Through love, all is possible."
This book is long. You have to be committed, find time during your busy day, or after hours to read it or listen to it.
I'm not going to deny it. I was intimidated.
Then, I started listening to it, and about 25% into it, I was solely preoccupied with who killed Danika Fendyr and what was going to happen to Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar.
Sarah J. Maas dumps a huge amount of world-building into the lap of the reader. It was enough to cause whiplash but I think I found it was easier to follow with the audio than with the printed book.
Bryce Adelaide Quinlan is a half-fae, half-human young woman who resides in Lunathion, also known as the Crescent City. She works for Jesiba Roga who is the owner of Griffin Antiquities. At the beginning of the story, Bryce behaves like a regular party girl. She likes to have fun, dance, have superficial hookups, and to get high. She spends the majority of her free time with her best friend and roommate, Danika. Since the moment they met in college, they become inseparable. Danika is the Alpha of the Pack of Devils. She is respected and feared. Neither has gone through "the Drop", a time when they leave their mortality behind and their true power manifests.
One night, needing to blow off some steam after breaking up with her human boyfriend, Bryce goes out partying. While Bryce is enjoying her time at the White Raven, Danika and her pack are being slaughtered. Connor who was part of the pack and whom Bryce has finally said yes to a date dies as well.
"Look where it hurts the most."
Two years later, Bryce is not really living. She goes through the motions. But when Hunt Athalar and Micah Domitus appeared at her work and she learns the demon who attacked Danika is back to slaying people, she can't pass up the opportunity to help with the investigation. Grudgingly, Bryce will also have to accept the help of her cousin, the Crown Prince of the Valbaran Fae, Ruhn Danaan, who has been told by the Autumn King to find Luna's horn.
Things I loved: -The friendship between Danika and Bryce. -The love Bryce had for Syrinx. -The camaraderie between Declan Emmet, Tristan Flynn, and the Crown Prince, Ruhn Danaan. -The sharpshooting skills Randal Silago taught her stepdaughter. -Mail delivering otters. -Fantastic character growth. Girl power all the way! -Aidas as a cat when Bryce was 13. -Tharion Ketos, the Mer. -Hypaxia (and Ruhn?) -Lele -Phone call between Ember Quinlan and Bryce's daddy. -Fury.
"Memento Mori"
Things that made me cry: -Lele, The Sprite fire. -Danika.
“I am a descendant of Ranthia Drahl, Queen of Embers. She is with me now and I am not afraid. My friends are behind me, and I will protect them."
Things that shocked me: -The boat scene. -The secrets Bryce kept.
Things I want to learn more about: -A.I.D.A.S (for sure). -Jesiba.
I believe House of Earth and Blood is UF at its best! The audio was fantastic. Kudos to the narrator. She was superb.

What a bittersweet moment to end this book!
Over the past month (I know, I was not suffering through years like so many) I have come to enjoy learning about everything Elin Hilderbrand wanted to tell me about these characters. I have come to adore this not-so-perfect family with their quirks and all.
Bart coming back home from Afghanistan and finally listening to his point of view was something I enjoyed tremendously. He was a man who was suffering and who deserved some happiness.
I was ecstatic to see "Fast Eddie" showing up in this book. I liked him a lot in The Rumor despite getting himself into so much trouble and ending up in jail. Now, as a free man, he was trying to support his family and he was desperate to sell a property in order to keep his family afloat.
As Winter Solstice progresses, we check in with Patrick, Jennifer, Kevin, Isabelle, Ava, Margaret, Mitzi, and of course Kelley.
I won't lie and say that Winter Solstice didn't break my heart. As I approached the ending, I knew where this was going and more than a few tears were shed.
I'm going to miss these characters and my only hope is just like Fast Eddie, Elin Hilderbrand decides to bring them back into her future books.

"The Thunderhead did not speak to unsavories."
What a huge cliffhanger!!
I usually hate cliffhangers but I think Thunderhead ends in a great one.
So what happens in this installment?
Rowan is now Scythe Lucifer. He's targeting Scythes who have forgotten their way. The Scythes who enjoyed the killing are all in his naughty list.
Citra as junior Scythe Anastasia is trying to change the Scythom from within with the support of Scythe Curie and the help of Scythe Faraday. This puts her in grave danger. Not everyone agrees with her way of thinking.
There's a fight for power between the old order and the new one. All thanks to Scythe Goddard and his followers.
Shusteman introduces an important character, Greyson Tolliver who will play a huge part in the Thunderhead.
My favorite part was learning more about the Thunderhead. Instead of the Scythes journals, we get so much more input about It, what he's thinking and who he wants to help.
“Death must exist for life to have meaning.”
I love the world building and the insight we get from the main characters.
I'm not sure how much the Tonists will play a part in the next one but I think it's going to be a major one.
I wonder how much time passes between the end of the Thunderhead and The Toll. I hope we don't have to wait too long for it. I'm dying for answers.
It has been a year in the life of the Quinn family. Another December in Nantucket is here.
So what's new with the characters?
Kelley's missing Mitzi. He has not divorced her and when she calls to beg to attend the baptism of Kevin's new daughter, Genevieve, he can't say no to her. It seems things between Mitzi and George, the yearly Santa Claus, are not going well. George might even start dating someone else!
Margaret is still dating the pediatric surgeon, Drake. She's very happy with him. She's also quite involved with the Inn and with her children lives too.
Kevin and Isabelle are preparing for the baptism when Kevin's ex-wife Nora makes her presence known. She's back to create trouble for the Quinn's family.
Ava is dating Scott and she couldn't be happier. Then, Scott invites another teacher to the Winter Stroll and when she gets hurt, Scott feels responsible and takes care of her, leaving Ava behind. This leaves room for Nathaniel to make a pass at her. Nathaniel is back on the island with the sole purpose of recovering Ava as his girlfriend.
Bart is still missing in Afghanistan but all his family is thinking of him.
Jennifer, Patrick's wife has become addicted to pain meds and Ativan. She's trying to figure out a way to get more pills for herself. She thinks she will stop using when Patrick is out of prison.
A lot has happened in the last year and many more things happened in this novel. All exciting and interesting to me since now I'm invested with these broken characters. The audio was fantastic and I would love to do a Winter Stroll myself during December in Nantucket.
One of the things I love the most is how they were thinking about Bart and how the light in his room was always on.
I'm surprised I have come around to liking Mitzi. I was so happy with the way she felt at the end of The Winter Inn but after finishing Winter Stroll, I understand her better and I'm rooting for Kelley and her to fix things between them.
Ava's love life is a mess. I'm leaning towards Scott but who knows.
Kevin had a moronic moment but thanks to George, not everything was lost to him.

John Carr is back and he's on the run!
If you have been following this series, you know what happened at the end of the last book, Stone Cold. This will trigger a reaction from Oliver Stone which will make him become the most sought-after man in the USA.
Oliver says goodbye to the Camel Club and to D.C. He ends up in the little town of Divine, WV which is nothing but that. Here, he'll realize that something is wrong with the town and some people are into shady businesses. Oliver can't walk away. He stays in Divine to help the people he has come to care for.
While Oliver is in Divine, the rest of the Camel Club won't let him deal with the government on his own. They decide to help Oliver even if he doesn't want their help. On the other hand, some people in the government want to keep Oliver quiet about everything he knows. Ending his life is the best way to do so.
Divine Justice is a great addition to the series. I was with Oliver on this one. He did what he thought was right and despite being on the run, he couldn't walk away from the trouble in Divine.
My favorite part of Divine Justice was to see characters from the other books making an appearance like Harry Finn and Alex Ford and meeting new ones like Joe Knox. Of course, there are some dangerous men like Macklin Hayes who were easy to hate.

I just have one question. What did Coyote mean at the end of Storm Cursed?
Arg, I wish I understood him. He's such a mystery. He's powerful, a trickster, very smart and he loves his daughter, Mercy, even though he has a weird way of showing it.
The Mercyverse is one of my favorite places to go back to. I adore Mercy and Adam. After this many years, Patricia Briggs has demonstrated that a couple can be together and still attract readers without the need for an unnecessary love triangle. To this day, Iron Kissed is still one of my favorite books.
Also, I love the side characters like Stephan, Zee, Sherwood Post, Tad, Joel, Ben, Wulfe, Larry (Goblin King), etc. I wish we could spend more time with each of them. They are fantastic! Mercy keeps on bringing on strays that make her life so much more interesting (and deadly..LOL).
When I start a new Mercy book, I always wonder where Mrs. Briggs is going to take her this time. Yes, Mercy has been hurt and almost killed so many times but she's fast, resourceful and she has learned to trust her mate and friends to help her out. She continues to grow as a character. She's my girl crush.
Storm Cursed is mostly about witches. Bad witches. Black Magic witches. Mercy is not a fan. She knows they are trouble and she must intervene. She must do it. Her job is to help the humans and the Fae meet without the witches killing them all.
I hated those Bad. Bad. Witches.
Storm Cursed is full of action, intrigue, suspense, and amazing characters. Unputtable down. The stories are only getting better.

Something weird happened to me while I was reading Stone Cold Heart. I was more interested in the suspense and the unsub than in the romance. As a romantic at heart, this was really shocking to me. No doubt only Laura Griffin can distract me from a HEA!
Stone Cold Heart is the 13th book in the Tracers series. Each book has a new couple investigating a case.
Newcomer Sara Lockhart is a forensic anthropologist. She's at a wedding when she's called by detective Nolan Hess to assist on an investigation. Human bones have been found at a National Park. Sara has recently relocated to Texas after spending some time in Guatemala. She accepted a job at the Delphi Crime Center. Sara is confident in her performance. She's a hard worker and prefers to stay away from any romantic notions. Her last relationship ended with her breaking up her own engagement.
Nolan Hess feels a responsibility to his town. A girl disappeared almost a year ago and her family is still looking for answers. Nolan wants nothing more than to bring the family some closure. He would love to capture the person responsible for her disappearance and put them behind bars for a long time. When human bones are found at the park, he thinks they could be the remains of the missing girl but Sara has her doubts. Then, a new young woman disappears in a city close by.
Stone Cold Heart had the perfect components of a romantic suspense. Laura Griffin is able to create the right environment for the crimes. In this case, the parks, the rock climbing and the caves were an excellent addition to the mystery. The idea of a serial killer dumping bodies so close to other people enjoying the outdoors was scary. I was biting my nails trying to figure out who was the killer. I knew it had to be close to them but I wasn't sure who it was until the end.
Stone Cold Heart is a great complement to the Tracers series. I hope we see many more stories to come.
