It's a great reminder to be far less self-interested, and be far more interested in how others are feeling, what their desires are, and why they do what they do.
For some reason, this is a hard lesson for people (myself included) to learn. Viralnomics is a refresher course is how to leverage social networks by reminding us that it's actually not about the network — it's about the people that use them....more

Reads like it was written solely for the author, and follows a similar formula to many Gladwell-esque books, where stories are taken from history and the primary focus of the book (in this case, the ego) is used as a way to explain historical events. You could write another book about "drive" or "practice" or many of the other concepts that have been popular recently and use many of the same historical figures and stories.
Not a bad book, just a simple premise repeated in 200 different ways....more

It seems he does this on purpose though, because his humanity shines through in much of the writing if you look closely. The arrogance and egotism in the writing seems to make his ideas spread more, which is what he wants, so he does it.
The general premise of the book is fantastic, stemming mostly from its application outside of its standard domain: finance. Antifragility (things that get stronger when stressed) is a helpful lens to analyze our health, lives, and habits through, provided you don't over-apply it.
Even though Taleb cautions against its over-application, I couldn't help but get the feeling that he committed that very sin in the book, especially as he got into some of the more nitty-gritty health details.
But overall, a worthwhile read that will clarify your understanding of a few concepts and introduce you to a handful of new ones....more
