It was literally rippling with emotions- raw and real. The story. It was Everything I was expecting and not expecting at all. I expected it t be awesome, and I certainly didn't expect where the plot went.
When I read the summary of the book, I didn't get the gist of the story, but I was sure I would later on, when I was already reading it. and fathomed thhe book did I do. The beginning started with a notion that it's going to be a seriosu contemporary YA romance, with lots of sweet and spine tingling scenes, and yeah it did, and more. The issues of abuse Hopeless tackled ruined my mind. Colleen Hoover is such a genius when it comes to turning the story in a puzzle I never knew it had. Plus the way she connected all the scenes, and the characters, and the title? Perfect! I'm not even exaggerating.
I am so so glad I picked this one when I was thinking of what book to read next from my gigantic pile, lol. Hopeless is not a hopeless story, but it was hopeful and it's just going to get endless rain of appreciation from me. Oh! Though the book has some sexual content, those scenes were written with YA readers in mind. I think. Lol. S if you're asking me if I'd recommend this book? I'll answer you with a resounding "YEAH!". Duh. :)...more
After months of trying to dodge the inevitable-reading the last of the Beautiful Creatures novel, I finally Review also found in: Coffee, Books and Me
After months of trying to dodge the inevitable-reading the last of the Beautiful Creatures novel, I finally finished it. The past few days has been a whirlwind of goodbyes for me, goodbyes for the series I've read and loved for the past years. One quote was right when it said whenver a book series ends, every reader feels like his/her heart has a hole. And that's what I feel right now, that something is missing. I am happy for the book to end, and for everyone to have their happy endings, but I'm also sad because it has finally ended. Contradictory but true.
Beautiful Creatures is the first YA series I've read wherein I loved the male POV narration. I loved HP and Percy Jackson series, but they were more of the middle grade genre. Ethan Wate is like no other. His genuine kindness and honesty made me adore him. Plus the history of their little town, Gatlin, is so rich and deep, and I learned more about the civil war because of this book. Give that I'm not feom the Us, so it wasn't part of my education before.
Beautiful Redemption is a perfect title for an epic series ender. Somehow, the word "redemption" encompasses a lot heavy meaning behind it, and after everything that has happened in this series, Lord knows how much saving their town and each of their characters need. I don't know what I expected from BR, but it wasn't this. What Ethan went through had some sort of a road to saving grace theme. Seriously. Each character were at their best, and I did not find any of them the least irritating. The way where the plot went was so unprecedented I just found myself turning the page over and over until the end.
In the end, the acknowledgement said Maggie and Kami's gratitude to the readers, the fans. But the truth is, thank you Kami and Maggie for sharing this wonderful story about family and town and long-hidden secrets, the beautiful creatures (that is mortals) and most especially love, how to love and how far one does for love....more
*I’m so pissed off the review I just made was not saved because of the awful internet connection! poof! all gone! sigh. but because I loved this book *I’m so pissed off the review I just made was not saved because of the awful internet connection! poof! all gone! sigh. but because I loved this book so much I’ll make another review with the same enthusiasm as before*
If only I could give a 100-star rating to this book I would’ve but a flat out 5-star can do the justice, that’s the max I can give anyway. When I got home from a camp tired and drained, I checked out my email quickly and found out I won an ARC of Onyx, I couldn’t help but do a quick happy dance in front of my friends! All my weariness seemed to fade away in an instant!
Honestly, I was worried I wouldn’t love Onyx the same as I loved Obsidian. It was just not possible that Obsidian can be topped of, but Jennifer Armentrout not only maintained the level of excitement I had while reading Onyx, it was doubled, tripled over! I don’t know how she did it but I don’t care because she did and that makes her super awesome! I can’t even explain right why I fell in love with Obsidian, and it’s the same with Onyx. I cannot really point out the exact reason why it is EPIC. Katy and DAemon? Daemon only? or the fact that the story itself is so unique that the whole package is made of awesome? Maybe all. but whatever. IN a book blogging-related topic, that’s one thing I loved in this book! Katy is a book blogger and it shows how we are much like her, books strewn everywhere, the book reviewing, etc. Plus the In My Mailbox special participation of Daemon must be one of my fave scenes, you have to watch out for that!
Katy and Daemon hit it on again! Their endless and hilarious banters are so entertaining I literally laugh out loud most of the time. Daemon is showing off his sweet side and we see a lot of him that he practically guarded his life with in Obsidian. His thoughtfulness almost choked me to bits and bawl like a baby. We all know how awesome he is in Obsidian, but it turns out it’s not even a quarter of what he is capable of. Katy, on the other hand has a huge leap in her character development! But that’s not until later on on the book. In the beginning she was more of the in denial mood with Daemon (both of how she and he feels). I get it that she was protecting herself, and it’s actually understandable. I hate it when other stories get pretty fast with the characters, so the slowness of their romance is much more acceptable and reality-bound, and I like it. And there is a new character that will try to shake some tension in the story! Better hold fast everyone. Plus! There are some characters whose presence will grip your heart and disturb your mind until you can’t think properly anymore! haha.
The story’s plot is oh-so awesome I nearly had a heart attack! Jennifer made it so heart-gripping, mind-boggling, plus the steamy, as well as witty scenes from Katy and Daemon is full of static and the energy they emitt would have been enough to supply the Titanic and probably prevented it from sinking! Seriously! I’ll tell you I did not expect the things that happened in the book. At times I thought the book is so long (400+ pages) and after reading a funny and sappy scene I don’t believe there’s another one in sight but then I am shocked to find myself laughing at another scene. Or when there’s a very poignant scene and it’s so sad I cry and I convince myself there won’t be anymore coming but there is! It’s all roller coaster ride in there! Have you seen an ECG graph/tracing? The erratic lines from a PVC or heart attack can describe the way the scenes and things happened in Onyx.
I don’t even want to finish my review but I have too! What else can I say other than Onyx is super worth it!

It was like watching a marathon series of TVD, except it’s TMI, and it’s plot is far more different than TVD. I never thought, or actually I thought of it but anyway, I never thought COLS could beat or maintain the level of epicness of the other 4 books, but it actually did! I didn’t know what can still possibly happen in the 5th book because every little possible thing happened already. City of Lost Souls was a book full of lost souls. LOl.
The ending of City of Fallen Angels left us all hanging with lots of questions, the biggest of them is “what will happen to Jace now?”. I remember feeling so sad of how Jace’s character was given a very heavy problem in the last book, and just as he was relieved from Lilith’s control, he was yet again loaded with a heavier problem. (though I know there will be a solution,he can’t just die). Anyway, so in the beginning of City of Lost Souls, we follow two weeks after the incident on the rooftop. The Clave is hunting for Jace & Sebastian, but after 2 weeks of failed attempts at finding them, they moved them second in their prioritized tasks. So, as usual, the gang (Clary, Alec, Izzy, Magnus & Simon) made their initiative and took it in their own hands to solve this problems. Clary ended up acting as a “spy” and stayed with Jace & Sebastian, while Alec, Magnus, Izzy and Simon were figuring out and finding ways how to kill Sebastian without harming Jace.
What I liked about this book is the no holds barred action and romance scenes. Clary can be officially deemed as a one hell of a kick-ass woman. She’s not becoming a shadowhunter, because she already is embodying a Shadowhunter. Her boldness and braveness is not something to be looked down on here, but admired. There were a lot of unexpected twists that made me hold my breath countless of times. Thankfully, not so much deaths that I care about. Simon, oh gosh, I love Simon more than ever! I appreciated his funny attitude before, but now I adore it! He’s like a happy-go-lucky guy who acts like it’s nothing to him, but deep inside he cares and he cares a lot. I appreciate more of his and Clary’s friendship here. I dunno why. Maybe I just don’t remember how they were before. What surprised me even more was the fact that on the two times I cried in this book, it was always on the scenes with Simon on it. (seriously, I’m becoming attached to this guy and I don’t mind it a bit). Let’s move on to Jace. My gosh, for some reason I imagine him more handsome and hotter now, and at the end of it all, I saw how much wisdom he has gained from all his experiences. I just loved him more and more.
The plot was not complicated to follow, and was very much well planned. There’s no other way to say it other than to just simply say reading this book was an amazing journey! I was totally entertained and enthralled with the story. Captivated, I was, with how things went through in the book. And I will just say this once, I have fallen somewhat to Sebastian. Haha. There’s just something about evil guys that enraptures me. I pity their situation and understand that they are lonely. And Sebastian is really alone. He just has this evilness in his nature that lead him to what he is now.
Thank God the ending was not a cliff hanger. And the ending was superb. The book is absolutely ah-may-zing. Can’t wait for Heavenly Fire....more
