When I slow down my reading because I really don't want the book to end! That's what reading Midnight Flit was like for me. I wish there had been a bit more steam, but then again I appreciate that the author didn't shoehorn some in when the plotline clearly did not support it. It was refreshing to see Miles/Millie again, this time clearly grown in all ways, especially in confidence. I detect a set up for a sequel and I want to be first in line to read it when it appears. Kudos for a book that is the first I put on my "Best of the Year" list. That's three months of arid reading, folks, so you can tell I really like Midnight Flit.
Edited to Add: just as good on a reread in June 2020.

Beautifully composed with finely drawn main characters and interesting plots, each book in the series so far is a delight. I especially like the relationship between mercenary-for-hire Aric and half human fae Emrys. It is seldom that love and caring are so realistically portrayed, absolutely a part of who the characters are as well as integral to the plot. I'm enjoying this series immensely....more

I love the perceptive ordinariness of the plot, hey, just two guys meeting, being awkward, will he won't he. I adore the sex scenes... nothing earth shaking (except for that one scene, which is still handled in a way consistent with both characterizations). And speaking of which, that is a very deft hand that created and sustained what are some deceptively complex characters. It is so refreshing not to have the third act break up! I was braced for it and was gratified when the tone of the book was not disrupted by something that just wouldn't fit. I love that the supportive set of parents were still ones that had their doubts and were somewhat difficult to handle.
And above all, the time that the author gives her characters allowed me to really know them, to understand their situations, and to believe in what is ultimately but so beautifully understated, their love.
I'm going to reread this book probably sooner than later. Kudos!...more
