I agree to read so many and after all the daily free Amazon downloads and the hundreds of other ebooks on my devices, books get lost. I promise that this book did not take four months to read. I actually got about halfway through it, then for the past few months have been buried in library books, that with no strings attached always get first priority because of their due dates. Anyways, last weekend I finally found out that I never finished this book. I ended up starting it from the beginning again because it had been so long and I had finished the entire thing within 24 hours. Gun Kiss is a lighter, quick read and was full of adventure that made the time fly by.
Exceptional story line. I loved the action and fast pace of the developments constantly building off of one another. Khaled Talib fit so much into this book that it was so fun to read because there was never a dull spot. Gun Kiss held a fun, unique backstory that had you guessing what direction it would take next full of unexpected twists and turns.
I did enjoy the plot points, but the thing that held Gun Kiss from perfection was the rush that although invigorating came with some lack of depth. Points were getting introduced so rapidly and each scene would bounce to the next, when sometimes the low moments could have held the potential to carry even more epic high times. I wanted even more development. I wanted the plotting and scheming (even though they went into things with no plan the majority of the time), so that I would feel more apart of the cast and feel more involved.

Kimberly developed an outstanding cast of characters that when brought together formed an entertaining, unpredictable whirlwind of a tale. The character chemistry and development was brilliant.
The entire structure of this story was beautifully assembled from the individual introductions of each character flowing into the next, which laid a great foundation when they did all finally cross paths, to the background characters complementing the story line so flawlessly by creating crossroads and having situations arise that might have otherwise felt forced or choppy.
I loved so many different things about Vortex! From the strong female character taking charge throughout these pages to her sidekick that stole my heart (and I mean Nimbus, not Heath even though he was as sweet as can be as well). Elaina was impeccably portrayed and Nimbus will be ingrained in my heart for many years to come, envisioning that freaking adorable helmet he had to wear during the chase and the love and anxiety he had for his owner's safety held me captive.
The drama throughout Vortex created a tension that made this a page-turner and the short chapters and easy dialogue created a lightness that provided momentum in my need to finish and find out how things ended. I'd recommend this to any and all. I enjoyed reading a story based near my hometown, about a subject I took pleasure learning about, and based on a strong-willed female protagonist.

The second half makes up for the first. I almost didn't continue on, but I'm glad I did. I would definitely classify this as a more family and marriage drama then the mystery that I'd thought would be the front runner. I was thinking here previous Big Little Lies going into this and this one didn't include nearly as much deceit, backstabbing and murder.
I appreciated the mental insight the author takes time to detail in each character. She brings new little quirks that are not often seen in characters and even is all inclusive in her assignment of them. A male is allowed to cry, hoarders are not as they appear on TLC, and drunks don't always get sober. She not only went into the issues of a generation, but took time to follow the trickle down of how that effected the next. These details were very well structured and researched.
I do love the foundation the most, how everything ends up coming around full circle. At the end, you get to sit and smile at all the little hints you missed. Slow start to a sweet, well rounded curb. Once the story picks, it just keeps getting better and better....more

I've read similar several times before so I wasn't gripped to the edge of my seat, but waiting for what few little differences would appear. I didn't connect with this one as much as a lot of other people, but I think that's more of a personal preference so I know to steer clear of these type of books. ...more
