It works on many different levels - as a coming-of-age tale, a "ghost" story, an examination of friendship, racism and justice. It makes you question your beliefs and perceptions and shows you where to find true heroes.
The story centers around the Finch family who live in a small Alabama town during the Depression. It is told from the viewpoint of Scout, the youngest child in the family, who must deal with growing up, making friends, and learning about her father as he represents a young black man accused of raping a white woman. A truly amazing, poignant and important novel. The movie starring Gregory Peck is also outstanding. ...more
