After his wife dies of cervical cancer, a man decides to walk around the coastline of England and Wales, in order to raise awareness and funds. Cervical cancer is spread by a virus, and there is a vaccine that takes care of it, provided it is administered early enough. Unfortunately, thanks to various government officials, trust in vaccines is very low indeed. I felt sorry for the guy....more

Of course, the scientific establishment of the time tried to bury him. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

His childhood wasn't all that different than Bill Cosby's except in a different time. He was mostly working class, but still had poor relations. An only child, he had an imaginary friend, who was much cooler than he. In the picture, he looks like actor Kadeem Hardison from It's A Different World, who in the pantheon of coolness, comes in somewhere behind the Mon chi chis.

Written in the 1960's, it was an eye opener for a lot of people. The time capsule aspect is very strong here. Baseball players being paid $12,600 a year? Nowadays the minimum is over $800,000. Maybe the strikers had a point. Also, the tales of peeping Tom behavior would definitely not go over well in this day and age. ...more

FromThis is actually a difficult book to review. I'm not entirely sure it isn't some kind of parody. Is Romney really this out of touch with reality?
From the first, when he claims to be from the Reagan wing of the party, which everyone else knows is simply not true. He is a part of the country clubber, Rockefeller, RINO wing, just like his father. I guess he forgot how when Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry joined the race, very, very late, they immediately got to his right. When he decided not to run for re-election as senator of Utah (because he was going to lose the primary) there was a sentence missing from his political eulogies: "Opposed democrats" because well, he never actually did.
Calling Rick Santorum "deeply weird," which very well may be true, but is certainly case of the pot criticizing the kettle. The fact that Romney couldn't put away a guy best known for wearing a sweater vest was a pretty good clue of how the election would go.
He had some kind of meltdown after his "43%" remark was leaked. We know the leaker was the grandson of Jimmy Carter, and a democrat party activist. Who let him into the event? That's what people want to know.
On the whole, a farewell from someone nobody is going to miss....more

Seems like a recipe for failure, and the climb did have tragic results.
