The memoir opens with Kat having found out that her husband has been cheating on her with one of her friends, and she resolves not to spend more than 12 hours being sad over this betrayal. At first, I thought that can't be possible or even a good idea, but in the memoir Kat recounts her life experiences, travels, health issues and her spiritual journey, in which she developed a great deal of acceptance, resilience and gratitude. When you read about Kat's spiritual evolution, her ability to move on from her husband's betrayal in 12 hours makes total sense.
I was really moved by this book. It's written in a really open, relatable and easy-to-read style and it is just so inspiring and compassionate. It talks a lot about karma, how we shape our own destinies and how no matter what we've been through, it's never too late to change your path in life and shape your future for the better. I have a tendency at times to wallow and feel victimized, but Never Let A Good Disaster Go To Waste is all about accepting struggle, no matter how rough, and moving forward, being kind, strong, and hopeful, an attitude that will change your fortunes, not matter what life throws your way.
I'll cherish this book and its message!
Thanks to Kat Finnerty for sharing your story and I highly recommend others check this one out! ...more

The story centres around the same sex attraction between Sunny and Milan and the familial and internal tensions this causes Sunny due to his cultural background. It is heart-wrenching at times to see how much difficulty Sunny's feelings for Milan cause him, and this struggle is very sensitively conveyed.
Don't let the cover (which is albeit adorable!) fool you, this is a nuanced and very thoughtful novel and the author has clearly gone to great lengths to achieve such empathy and authenticity.
Bhathal is a very talented writer whose writing often feels literary. As well as achieving great emotional sensitivity, she conveys different places, settings and characters vividly and skillfully. This isn't a fluffy rom com despite giving the feels at times!
I highly recommend this novel and look forward to seeing what Bhathal does next....more

The novel means a huge amount to me. Camilla Black is a dark angel who has been living in my head for four years so I'm really happy she's now reaching readers (for the second time around!).
Writing about a vigilante serial killer of very bad men was very cathartic and fun to write, and I hope the book is equally enjoyable to read!
If anyone has questions about Pretty Evil, you can ask me on my Goodreads page. It would be great to interact with readers!
Also, if you've reviewed here, it would be a real help if you could post your review to Amazon too. It helps us authors out a lot!
