But I was delighted when I found three books from M.O’Keefe’s ‘Hearts’ trilogy - Stolen Hearts, Broken Hearts, and Untamed.
‘Dark Hearts’, allows readers to move from one part of Ronan’s and Poppy’s story to the next, without ever having to switch books. I found this super helpful when getting to an intense ending and immediately wanting to know what happens next.
From the start, I thoroughly enjoyed Ronan’s ‘dark and mysterious’ side, which throughout the books we saw an increase as we learned more about his character. And even better was his soft, romantic side - that had been hidden for so many years due to outside influences forcing him to take on the persona of their ‘lap dog’ - start to blossom for Poppy.
Poppy was layered with her want to: Be a good sister for Zilla, to pull Ronan out of this dark world, to get away from people controlling her - which thanks to Ronan’s help, she was finally able to see. However, I did want to also throttle her sometimes due to her lack of pride. Constantly time and time again, when he’d ‘reject’ her, she only cried or clambered on him again. And though I’m glad she stuck with him throughout as it led to him finally being free. It was a little annoying.
Another criticism would be, that the whole ‘will they, won’t they’ trope in this series was a little bit too dragged on for my taste. I felt it was excessive at times and Ronan was always the instigator of the ‘we can’t’ and his reasoning was always the same, even though he would allow himself to give in for a minute before getting mad at himself and taking it out on Poppy. Though I do believe these two were ‘made’ for each other, and bring out the dark and light in each other (in good ways), at times it was mad annoying.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this series and would recommend it for those gangster, dark world, and romance, vibes. ...more

This book opened with action, which was gripping, and compelling, and then the ‘you don’t remember me?’ question was thrown in there, creating a brilliant first chapter. And I was glad to see that this brilliance wasn’t lost throughout the book.
I found the plot to be engaging, easy to follow along with, and our female lead to be layered and flawed. I love how throughout the book we saw Saffron want to constantly prove herself to not only her brother and teammates but to herself. To prove that she could handle being a field agent. And once she became secure in her decisions, she went from being badass to being a badass agent.
One of the best things about Lachlan’s character was not only his constant vibe of ‘she’s mine, don’t touch', but also his groveling. Ugh, he groveled very well. It showed how caring he was, and how he listened to Saffron and took into account her feelings and wishes.
Though I found this book to be good, there were a few times where it could’ve been better. First, Malone used the line ‘like the devil himself was chasing…’, no joke, maybe five times. It is a good line that shows the desperation of our characters, it felt overused and at times I felt like screaming ‘come up with a different line!’. The second point would be, at times the mission that’s going on felt a little drawn out. There was a lot of back and forth between David Webster and Graciella that I felt wasn’t detailed enough to fully grasp or understand. And lastly, there was the discussion of Lachlan and his showing up at Rogues Division and his bad relationship with his parents, but I felt like I lost the depth with him sometimes that we got with Saffron. Apart from these little things, Nana Malone did a fantastic job. ...more

This prequel was filled with mystery, suspense and a blossoming romance between our two main characters. Though it was a quick and short read, it definitely piqued my interest and had me wishing for the next book.
I already know that I’m going to LOVE Carter Morelli - our professor and mystery spy. He shows promising signs of being protective of his soon to be girl ;).
Sweet and innocent Jane Porter has this sense of mystery to her (like Carter), that we see presented in her past - with the mention of perhaps a distant mother. I look forward to understanding her better AND seeing how she reacts when she realizes professor Morelli isn't who she thought he was.
It was a promising start for the story and I can't wait for more!...more

I quite frankly couldn’t stop reading it. I’m a massive sucker for single-parent books, and this book was no exception. The love between miss Everly and Ford was astounding - that girl has him wrapped around her little finger. To be fair, the same can be said for Sydney.
From the moment Everly and Sydney met, you just knew they’d be each other's best friends. And when she officially becomes her nanny - ugh, they just keep giving. From the constant baking to the pancake parties, and the singing together - my heart melted.
Reading (and in some ways watching) this little unit become a family was so special, and Marni writes it in such a lovely way that you want to keep reading - to see what the next development in their threesome is.
Aside from Everly, the growth between Sydney and Ford is at times slow, with the whole ‘should we, shouldn’t we’ tension. Nonetheless, still wholesome. They’re definitely - in my opinion - soulmates who’d do anything for each other. And can find an appropriate balance between time with Everly and with themselves (even though sometimes you just wish they’d just be selfish and spend time alone ;)).
Was I enthralled throughout the entirety of this book? Yes, yes I was. Do I recommend this book to you? HELL YES
I implore you to add a reminder for June 28th on your calendars, since that’s when this book will hit the shelves!

However, once I actually read it, I found it to be 'ok'. It served its purpose but didn't do that much for me, which sucks considering how pumped I was when I first heard about it. I found the plot to be a little lacking - and the whole under plot of finding out who her attacker is, was very underwhelming and felt rather rushed.
One of the main aspects I thought was going to make this book really good, was the 'bad boy/good girl' trope, because lets face it - who doesn't love it. It was implied a bit and Knox said a few times "I'm bad for you" or "I'm not going to be good for you", but that was pretty much it; within the first ten or so chapters, he was mr nice guy? Which just felt a bit flat.
I found when they both discussed their past trauma, it all came out in the first three chapters? So there was no sort of 'get to know them and then confide in them', it was just 'blah here's my history'. And since their trauma was absolutely terrible, it wasn't said in a heartfelt way, but rather a joking manner? So, wasn't a huge fan of that. I personally love a lead up to a big reveal that creates and instills the bond between the characters.
The thing - for me - that saved this book was the epilogue (I won't spoil it), and how sweet it was and quite honestly how it was able to wrap everything up. So points for that. ...more
