I was really excited to read this book. As a fan of historical fiction, I was intrigued about a story about WWII from the Hawaiian perspective, since not many books focus on that angle. I was a bit disappointed that this book was so light on history. I felt like the love story between Grant and Lana really took center stage, but didn’t feel really hooked into it. I found Lana to be largely sympathetic to the children in her care, but there wasn’t enough meat to the story for my taste. I also found the supernatural elements to be a little strange.
In all, a good book...quick read, but not what I was hoping for....more

There is not a single scriptural reference, nor is it divided into days, months, seasons, etc. The author, instead, offers words of encouragement in a friendly, chatty kind of way. I will keep it by my bedside for those times I need a gentle reminder of God's love, though. ...more
