Stacy Juba is skilled at the art of writing a scene and making the reader feel the tension and suspense. When I began reading the book about a young girl, Cassidy Novak, who was a star of a reality show and then becomes concerned about a stalker, I was slightly concerned that 'Sink or Swim' would be just another forgettable run-of-the-mill story. But Juba is a professional. She has the reader right where she wants them, one minute Cassidy is concerned about her stalker, the next we are caught up in a multi-layered mystery where Cassidy is at the centre and I could feel the danger she was in. It's a gripping and enthralling read. At times, I was so engrossed in the book that I wanted to jump inside and save Cassidy... that is how adept Juba is at creating real characters and suspenseful storylines. I highly recommend this read from a rising star in the murder mystery genre.
The story deals with family relationships, the impact of reality shows on people's lives, obsession, love, trust, and of course murder! A must read.

What motivates a stalker? And what do you do once you have one? Cassidy Novak finds out when she goes on a reality TV show. Cassidy hopes to win the million dollar prize so that she can start her own chain of businesses. After the show, she is shocked to find that she has gained a few obsessed fans, as well as a stalker.

With Sink or Swim, Stacy Juba takes a look at our reality TV craze. Whether you enjoy reality shows or not, it's hard to miss the famous and the infamous that these shows create. Sink or Swim takes us behind the scenes and shows us what happens after the cameras have stopped filming.

Stacy Juba has a knack for showing us, rather than telling us, a story. In find myself easily getting lost in her fictional world. This is a fun read, with mystery, suspense and a little romance. And it would make a great movie!

Sink or Swim - Review by Martha A. Cheves

Under the show's set-up, twelve contestants had competed in four teams. The crew awarded marks based on skill and neatness, with team members pooling their numbers to win privileges like movie nights or dinners in the officers' mess. Every Monday, a low-scoring contestant walked the plank and went home on a rendezvous ship. Cassidy had lasted until the final cut.

Cassidy Novak was one of the contestants on the reality show Sink or Swim. She didn't like losing at anything, especially when there was a million dollars at stake. But lose she did coming in at second place. Her dream of opening a chain of gyms with her as the fitness instructor has come to an end. The only thing she can do now is go to her dull life in Garrett and hopefully make enough money to pay her bills. But... life was to never be the same again.

As with all the cast members, Cassidy had received her share of fan mail. There were those from her admirers and even a gift here and there. Then she spotted the Raggedy Ann doll, just like the one her father had given her before he ran away from Cassidy and her mother never to be heard from again. And then came the 'love' letters expressing the love and devotion of someone who signed everything with the name Miles. As time goes on, Miles becomes more than a want-to-be lover. He becomes her stalker.

This book has several twists and turns. As Cassidy received a hint as to who this person might be I started believing she might be right. All of her suspects had the perfect opportunity and reasons but which one was it? I was surprised to the end!

This is a very enjoyable book to read. I found myself wanting to read 'just one more page' before going to bed. Can't wait to read more by this author.

Sink or Swim is a very interesting book. It seems like a pretty simple premise. Cassidy, the main character, returns from being on a reality show and of course her life changes. Some changes are for the better but it seems she has picked up a stalker along the way. But the book is not just the mystery of who the stalker is and what will happen. It's also about Cassidy and watching her grow and change during the course of the book.

I really enjoyed the character development from Cassidy. She's not one-dimensional, the author really brings her out through the book. As she is set against different characters that come into her life I learned more and more about her as she does so herself. I think the characterization is very important to this book and made it even more enjoyable to me.

The mystery element is also well-done. I kept trying to guess through the book who the stalker was, then I would change my mind. I have to say I didn't see the end coming and I'm glad. I like that enough options were presented that even when you thought you knew who it was suddenly you changed your mind. Ms. Juba does an excellent job of plotting this book out. It never lagged. From the first page until the last I found it hard to put down. It went at just the right speed, I never felt things were hurried or too slow.

If you enjoy a good mystery with great characters then Sink or Swim is the book for you. The reality show element is really in the background so if you hate reality shows don't let this put you off of an excellent book. If you love reality shows, this is a great book with the reality show in the background. Either way - it's a good book and will entertain you for several hours. I cannot find fault with this book at all, the writing is well-done, the characters interesting, and the mystery stimulating. An excellent book for a weekend or weeknight read!

Sink or Swim, I was honored enough to get an advanced copy of this book and have been dying to write this review.
I started reading it and thought, wow an inside view of the life of a reality "star". I enjoy reality TV, let's see how "tough" their life really is after appearing on TV.
Cassidy has the misfortune of being the "runner-up" and must walk the plank in the season finale. Not only is she disappointed but her #1 fan is very unhappy about these results and decides it's not fair.
Cassidy is the contestant everyone loves, personable, friendly, all around nice person, which makes her the perfect target.
Cassidy has a stalker who not only thinks she should have won, but also that they should be together, what stalker doesn't think that!
Upon arriving home to her job as a personal trainer, and her loving family, she is asked by the local paper to do a follow-up story on the life of Cassidy Novak, local girl makes it on reality show. Now she has a photographer following her around, he's mysterious, handsome, and she knows very little about him! While on the show she has a connection with one of the other competitors, who happens to be engaged! The winner of SOS is the obnoxious Reggie, the guy everyone loves to HATE!
So we have at least 3 potential stalkers or might they be victims of the stalker.
You will enjoy the connection she has with her family, her clients, and her NEW number 1 fan.
There are little twists and turns and ups and downs, and this is really a great book. Great storyline, and written by a fabulous writer!

You always hear how great reality TV is, turning ordinary people into celebrities practically overnight. I’m sure we have all watched one reality TV show or another. But what happens when those ‘stars’ return back to their normal lives? In Sink or Swim by Stacy Juba, Cassidy Novak fought her way to the finals on the reality TV show Sink or Swim. She is disappointed when she realizes that she has lost the show, including the million dollar prize money that would help pay off her debt and open a chain of fitness centers. Being the character that everyone loves, she bravely walks the plank and plunges into the cold water below, all while staying strong for the sake of appearances. Once back to her small hometown, she realizes that her days in the lime light are far from over. Not only does everyone recognize her, but Cassidy must also deal with a crazed stalker who will do anything to win her love, even if that means murder. When things can’t seem to get any more confusing for Cassidy, she must also struggle with feelings for the handsome photographer who is doing a story on her and a previous contestant on the show who happens to be engaged. Can Cassidy trust her instincts to save not only herself but those closest to her, or will she end up a loser in reality? Sink or Swim is a quick read and is one of those books that sucks you in and won’t let you stop reading until the very end. Will you guess right as to who the stalker really is? Read Sink or Swim to find out!

I received a copy of this book from the author Stacy Juba. The funny thing is when I read the first page I was reluctant to go to the second because she fakes me out. See I do not read historical fiction very often and that it what I though it was. Well considering that I really like Stacy I decided to move ahead and boy was I surprised.

Sink or Swim is a great book. Cassidy returns from being on a reality show and of course her life transforms. She is now a celebrity. Some changes are fantastic but it also seems she has also picked up an obsessed follower. The book is not just the mystery of who the stalker is and what will happen. It's seeing Cassidy come into her own self by watching her grow and change during the course of the book.

I kept trying to speculate throughout the book whom the stalker could be, then I would change my mind. The end was a complete shocker and considering I usually guess who the ending by the middle of the book or movie I really enjoyed being surprised. I picked this book up toyed with the first page for a bit and then dug in not putting it down until two hours later when I was finished.

This was an excellent book. Thank you Stacy for sharing!!

What an enjoyable story! I won't summarize the plot because the author and other reviewers have done a great job of that. What I will say is...outside of the cooking network, I'm not much of a reality TV fan. (I know *cringe* not a popular confession) BUT, I am very curious about reality TV and what draws the participants/watchers.

Stacy Juba's SINK OR SWIM gave me a wonderful, honest glimpse behind the curtain of reality TV--the participants and the viewers. The author obviously knows her subject, and her ability to weave a fictional tale around the potential risks and rewards of reality TV is a true talent. Characters are nicely fleshed out and have all the proper motivations to make them believable. I especially enjoyed that although the premise of SINK OR SWIM is a 'dramatic hot topic', the author didn't use the crutch of melodrama to get her point across. The tightly woven plot and character development kept me turning pages.

For anyone who enjoys real characters dealing with a bit of romance and suspense, SINK OR SWIM is a must read!

You don't have to be a fan of reality TV to thoroughly enjoy Sink or Swim. If you like novels that combine the tension of thrillers with the problem-solving challenges of a good mystery, you'll love this book.

Cassidy Novak is a well drawn protagonist who is in the process of working through childhood issues while pursuing her dreams. But an unintended consequence of her participation on a reality TV show causes her to amend plans and deal with issues when a dangerous stalker forces his way into her life.

Author Stacy Juba does as masterful job of tying Cassidy's fate with her stalker to the resolution of longstanding problems. If you like to swim along the surface of a story to feel the waves of tension as they hit, you'll have a satisfying read. If you enjoy diving below the surface, you'll definitely find hidden treasure in Sink or Swim.

Feeling she has nowhere to turn Cassidy moves in with her stepfather but even that does not keep her safe from harm. Deciding to leave town all together and go to somewhere isolated she stays with her stepfather’s aunt and uncle in order to remain safe. But, is she? Telling no one where she has gone how does one old friend find her? How does this stalker know her every move and remain two steps ahead of everyone involved? Step one is learning to shoot a gun and getting a license to do so. Leaving her home was just a temporary fix and Cassidy realizes she cannot remain a recluse forever and needs to move ahead with her life and end this nightmare once and for all. But, can a weapon really solve the problem? Pursing the killer on her own, asking questions of the family’s of the victims solidifies her suspicions that the killer is getting close and will strike again. Thinking Zach is the one person she can trust she learns the real reason he is sticking so close, pushes him away and winds up alone.

Many different suspects in the mix including one young lady named Rhonda Sue who is overly infatuated with Cassidy and only wants to work out with her at the gym. Howard the weird guy who works out their too and several others who joined only to get close to her and soak up some of her popularity for themselves. What about Adam who is totally enamored with her? Could be the stalker?

Trust must be earned and Cassidy has a hard time trusting anyone as she delves deeper into the lives of both victims. Cassidy gets a permit for a gun to protect her hoping not to be vulnerable anymore. Leaving her safe haven she decides to accept a speaking engagement at a college hoping to flush him out. But, the one person she thought she could trust betrays her in a different way and once again she is alone as she walks to her car tears pouring down her face. Who can she trust and why does she feel so alone? As she approaches her car she finds something taped to the windshield that changes her entire direction and puts not only her in harm’s way. Leaving a memento of another killing, he sends her an offer she cannot refuse and Cassidy plunges into a different Sink or Swim situation and is forced to walk a much more deadly plank as she fight not only for her life but someone she loves. What happens next will surprise the reader as Cassidy learns the true meaning of trust, love, loyalty and much more. Although Zach’s publisher sent him in one direction alienating him from Cassidy, will his heart send him in the right one? An ending with a definite surprise twist and a little girl caught in the crossfire. Who is the stalker? Who is the killer? What rationale did this person have for his actions? Hiding in plain sight might be the answer. Who is this killer that targeted two of her competitors? Is he angry that she came in second and this is his way of avenging her loss?

Characters that are strong clearly defined and extremely well developed. Once again author Stacy Juba has penned a novel that is definitely not going to sink, it will do more than just Swim: It will rise to the top with no lifeboats needed. How far will someone go to create a fantasy life? How far will someone go to protect his or her family from harm? What would you do if you were Cassidy and knew the only way to save someone you love was to place yourself front and center in the line of fire with a sadistic killer? One man’s deceit, another mans frustration, a killer’s sick mind and another who won’t give up. An ending that will surprise you and a young woman’s courage to protect someone she loves at all cost. Read this outstanding second novel by the author of Twenty Five Years Ago today to find out what happens to Cassidy. Walking the plank is dangerous and sinking to the bottom even more. Find out who does sink and who does swim. Find out what happens to Cassidy and Zach. Which one will sink? Which One Swims? Or do they both float together? Find out for yourself and read this book when it comes out.

Taking a page out of the popular reality series, Sink or Swim is a fun and sometime unnerving novel about the stalking of celebrities, and even pseudo celebrities including reality stars. Often, just being in the public eye for a moment can cause a tailspin. That is the case of Cassidy Novak, the contestant and second place winner of the game show Sink or Swim.

Mortified and unaware of the amount of people she has affected, she leaves the show in the most undignified of ways, by walking the plank. Knowing she will have to go back to a job she does not care for, she is surprised when a publicity agent wants to sign her up. As she drifts back into her usual routine, she finds that her life is anything but usual. Creepy and unusual people begin to follow her. One young girl wants to be her, to remake herself in Cassidy’s image. However, even worse is the stalker that leaves her gifts and steals personal items from her parent’s home.

More than unnerved she brings in the police and shares her horror. As the notes and gifts continue to show up, the stalker is getting closer and closer. The real terror begins when the winner of Sink or Swim is found murdered. Cassidy fears that her stalker could have the same designs on her. When another member of the popular cast of contestants to Sink or Swim is murdered, Cassidy no longer knows what to do. Initially she hides out with her parent’s friends, but decides she will not be driven away. Will she come home only to be the next body on the list?

Stacy Juba has put together a story about the reality game shows that are popular currently. She takes the celebrity status of the cast and creates a real life murder and mystery. The characters are well written and priceless. You either love them or hate them, as is the way of reality TV. Trying to figure out in this cast of characters who is the most sinister is thrown off balance, when the one most odd is the first one murdered. Throw in a red herring or two with the wacky personalities now following her after the show, and twist in another few people that are new to her and yet she feels compelled to trust.

You get a mix for a possible disaster where not everything is what it seems. The surface of those you think you know is often a façade. This is a great whodunit mystery with a thread of romance throughout. Be careful what you wish for, it may not be what you expect when you are gifted just that.

This is a wonderful and fast-paced, with a cast of characters that could rival Survivor or the Amazing Race. The contestants could not be more real. The romance is just right and tagged as an aside to the actual story with is about the dangers of celebrity. A satisfying read.

This book was recieved as a free download from the author. All opinions are my own based off my reading and understanding of the material.

AudioBook Review: Stars: Overall 4 Narration 4 Story 5

I’m not a huge reality television watcher, but the premise of a daredevil-styled show as the introduction and backdrop for the murder victims is intriguing. Cassidy is the runner-up, second place for the prize that would have allowed her to pay off some debts and start her own new business.

An interesting character, Stacy Juba gives us the initial sense that Cassidy is rather calculated and forward thinking: dying the hair, practicing a smile in the mirror, working on ‘comeback lines’ in the hopes they will be quoted around the water cooler. In itself, this isn’t a bad thing, but setting her up as calculated, then having her react in near complete contradiction to that early character: hot-headed, impulsive and often unreasonable, while I could understand her determination to be independent and self-reliant in lieu of the threat, there was something missing that made her likeable in any way more than any other cast member of a reality show.

But what saves the story is the mystery and the tension created as her cast mates start disappearing, the difficulties encountered with being a ‘celebrity’, the questions about the real intentions of her love interest, Zach and all of the daily stressors of life that don’t include a crazed stalker with murderous intent. Full of tension, twists and some really clever perspective on the reality television and celebrity culture as a whole, the story swiftly moves through potential suspects with a pace that keeps readers on the edge.

Narration is provided by Funda Duval, initially I wasn’t a fan of the pairing as early on narration felt tentative and there is an accent that came through quite strongly early in the story that didn’t fit with my vision of Cassidy. However, as the ‘newness’ of the story and voice became more familiar, Duval’s narration managed to perfectly capture both tension and assumed voices for characters, that didn’t feel over-worked or false. There were also some early ‘echoes’ in the initial 45 minutes of the audiobook version that may have contributed to the issues, whether a microphone was not shielded or not operating properly, those issues did also resolve. ( I did listen with 3 different headphones from in ear to free-standing speakers to a set of high def headphones, none made any significant different to the echo issue I noted.)
This is only one of a handful of mystery/suspense audiobooks that I have listened to, and I will most certainly be accepting opportunities for more. Juba made a story that was interesting, intriguing and surprising for a wholly entertaining listen.

I received an AudioBook copy from the author for purpose of honest review for the Heard Word. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

STACI T'S REVIEW

Sink or Swim by Stacy Juba is a contemporary romantic suspense novel incorporating all the elements of modern society: reality television, celebrities, moral dilemmas, romance, and danger. The description of the book promised a combination of sizzle, intrigue, and action, and for the most part, it delivered.

Sink or Swim follows the life of Cassidy Novak after she almost wins a reality television contest. She appears to have been the show’s sweetheart; she has a huge fan base and many people lament that she wasn’t the winner. In the course of the novel, she realizes that there aren’t really any perks to being a reality television celebrity, but there are a lot of drawbacks, the most sinister of which is being stalked by a crazed fan.

Cassidy’s port in the storm is photographer Zach Gallagher. But before she gets too serious about him, she discovers he might not have the best of intentions. Cassidy considers Zach and several other suspects during the course of the novel, relying on no help as she tries to be self-sufficient. Her character arc falls just short of believable. She is painted as the darling of the television show, but she seems hotheaded, unreasonable, and willful. Much of that can be explained by the stress she’s under, but not quite all of it.

Despite Cassidy’s likeability issues, the novel is well-written. The plot is carefully constructed and characters are developed fully. My only note is that there was a lot of internalization and description when I would have liked to have seen more action and dialogue. All things considered, though, Juba’s use of that writing style didn’t detract from the novel’s overarching message.

Sink or Swim is a novel with a good pace, a strong plot, and memorable characters. If you’re looking for a fast and easy romantic suspense novel with an independent female protagonist, this is the book for you.

ABHA'S REVIEW

3.5 STARS

Cassidy is a strong, motivated woman with some dreams and ambitions. What I really like about Sink or Swim is that Cassidy isn't a helpless female. She is strong and willing to fight for herself and for what she believes is right.

The back drop of the book is a reality game show or rather the book starts at the last episode of "Sink or Swim". It quickly turns into a murder mystery with a few twists and turns. There is also some budding romance. Sink or swim is an easy read and I would give it my three and a half stars.

The main reason why it didn't score higher for me is that Cassidy's character could have been portrayed better. The author focused on her indecision very well but didn't develop the character as much as I would have liked. Some of the supporting characters could have been better portrayed as well.

This book had two of my favorite things: reality TV shows and stalkers. I swear this book might have been made for me. The only thing that would have made me like it even more would be if the story took place during the filming of the show and not the aftermath. The plot deals with the heroine Cassidy Novak coming in second place on a reality show named SOS. She is faced with all this temporary fame and in the process of sorting through her new life, she starts getting notes and gifts from some creeper named Miles. Aside from Cassidy's stalker, there's a psycho on the loose who's going around killing former contestants of the show.

The stalking started out not that impressive to me. Not that I wanted pets getting sliced up and underwear being thieved, but I wanted to read about something outrageously creepy. Over the course of the book, the notes and such got freakier and freakier. I felt Cassidy's fear and paranoia. All she had was a name and no face. This crazy guy was obsessing over her and she had no clue who he was. For all she knew, it could be the guy working down the street at the gas station or even someone much closer to her. I was kept guessing for the majority of the story as to who the stalker was and I was pretty pissed when I guessed wrong. The whole time I was convinced it was a certain person and I was disappointed a little that it wasn't them. If it had been this person, it would have made for some super freaky events. I was honestly shocked when I found out who was sending Cassidy the notes. I wished I would have paid closer attention to the scenes they were in, so I could see if I could pick up on any clues pointing to them. The part where Cassidy confronted the stalker at the end was my favorite. All my complaining about the person not being up to my stalker standards was swept away during the last few chapters. The person was just so deranged and I found myself alternatively laughing and dropping my jaw at the psycho things they said and did. The ending alone was what made the book good for me.

First of all, I must say, this cover is somewhat misleading. It makes me think of pirates, ships, adventure. It made me feel that more of the novel would be dedicated to the reality show itself than actually was. Truth is, the show ends on the first page practically. The book itself is just a story about a woman being stalked and trying to figure out who is ruining her life. What starts as gifts becomes crazy notes and invasion of her life. Oh--the murders of two of her fellow contestants.

But it's fast paced, entertaining, and it kind of has a theme/moral. Don't think you can be famous, don't expect to be on TVs around the world every week, and not accept the repercussions, such as having your privacy invaded or in this case, picking up a stalker or two.

She'd bought fame for a price. She couldn't expect the world to have her money and esteem, yet have her privacy level remain the same.

I liked this. It was an entertaining read and only took a day, though it was a day off work. Every now and then it's nice to pick up something that doesn't take four days of your time. But I am disappointed there wasn't more of the reality show. I like reality TV in books, just don't watch them. Yes, I know, that's weird. LOL

However, I must say I really like the heroine though sometimes she's a bit dumb and acts too rashly, without thinking. She hated to be seen as a coward. When the press said she "ran away", she fought to prove them wrong. She faced her fears and the bad guy. She gets a gun and learns how to use it.

This is a strong n sexy heroine. She also doesn't need a man, though there is two men skirting around her, potential love interests, if she decides she wants them. She doesn't hesitate to push them away when she feels it's necessary or even draw a gun on one.

I also appreciated the moral about not getting sidetracked from your dreams/goals by insta-money/fame. That's an important thing to remember.

When trainer Cassidy Novak participates in a reality TV show called "Sink or Swim," she hopes to win first prize, and with the winnings, start a chain of fitness studios.

But she doesn't win first prize, and as the runner-up, her actual cash will be miniscule compared to the million dollar payday for the winner.

Nevertheless, she discovers that some fame follows her afterwards, and soon she has an agent and the promise of more celebrity opportunities. But the aftermath of the show and the instant celebrity turn into something dark and malevolent. Cassidy is being pursued by a stalker. At first the letters seem only mildly troubling, but as time passes, they grow more intense. Then there are two murders of former competitors on the show...and Cassidy must consider the possibility that she will be next.

Throughout the story, there were numerous characters, from weirdly annoying to less troubling, who might turn out to be the stalker. And just when Cassidy believes that one or the other could be the one, she is blindsided by her discovery of who is actually stalking her. But she doesn't figure it out until more tragedy ensues and she is right in the man's crosshairs.

I enjoyed the ride throughout the suspenseful pages, and I was also surprised by the reveal. Along the way, there were some romantic moments between Cassidy and a couple of the other characters. I liked that she was drawn as an independent, feisty, and fiercely determined young woman. I felt connected to her from the beginning, although there were some moments when she seemed to let her guard down too easily. I am not a fan of reality shows, but I did enjoy the stalker angle, and her sometimes casual (or plucky?) behavior did help intensify the suspense, so I'm giving this one 4.5 stars.

Cassidy Novak came in second place on a reality television show, called Sink or Swim. Her dreams of being able to open up a chain of specialized gyms will have to be delayed, since she didn’t win the money. But when she returns back home, everyone treats her as though she was the star of the show. The gym where she works is booming with new clients all desperate to see and meet Cassidy. Plus, the local newspaper has a reporter and an out-of-towner photographer following her around, everywhere she goes. As if this wasn’t enough, the overwhelming fan mail has taken a scary turn when a stalker starts sending her items from her past. As the postmarks get closer and closer, Cassidy’s anxiety gets higher and higher. Did she survive reality television only to meet her end in real life?

Stacy Juba explores the good and bad sides of reality television fame. The story is a fast read, but does have a tendency to remain in the dramatic zone, even after Cassidy has returned back to her normal like. Readers will either like Cassidy or like to dislike her, since her personality seems to shift throughout the book. However the mystery aspect will leave the readers guessing, right up until the end. Juba demonstrates an exquisite talent for leading her readers through a maze only for them to discover a completely different outcome.

Tifferz Take:
I have the honor of receiving an arc copy of Sink or Swim. This is the second book I have read of hers and it will not be the last. I can't tell you how happy I am to find new authors! This was a fun mystery that kept me captivated from the first few chapters. The plot was great and the story moved right along. I found myself rooting for Cassidy she seemed so real to me.The characters in Sink or Swim were well developed with a great mix personalities. Whether you like reality TV or not I think you will enjoy this book. This story is more about what happens after the show. I liked how I was guessing to the end who is the stalker. So, to sum up this book if you like mystery, suspense and a some romance I recommend this book. This is a keeper and I will be reading this one again! I look forward to reading more from Stacy Juba.

I admit to enjoying a few reality television series like "Dancing with the Stars" and "The Amazing Race." After the ending and the winner has been announced, my husband and I get a cup of coffee and sit down to have a lively speculation of 'what happens next?' History has shown us that even some of the winners of these shows end up unhappily, such as Richard on "Survivor #1", some go on to become 'professional' game contestants. Some, as in this thrilling and chilling novel, find themselves victims of stalkers when reality mixes with the stalkers unreality.

Author Stacy Juba captures several post game scenarios. You can tell Ms. Juba has done considerable research into the subject. Perhaps that is why the book is so scary, Stalkers are real even though they live in non-realistic worlds.

Our victim is 2nd place winner, Personal Trainer, Cassidy Novak. Through this very realistic character we feel the discomfort, then fear, and then chilling terror of being stalked. As Cassidy works with the police to find the culprit, murders of the other contestants begin. Cassidy finds her options diminishing.

This book was very well thought out and I liked the ending because, they tell you the ending. I'll be looking for Ms. Juba's next novel.

Cassidy Novak loses on a reality television show to return home to find out that she has won the attention of a stalker who begins to send her letters and gifts. She has dreams of opening up a nationwide chain of exercise studios and hopes that the exposure she received as the runner up on the Sink or Swim show will help to achieve those dreams, but the stalker puts a halt to her rise.

With different people entering her life at different times she had difficulty figuring out who her stalker is and the police seem to have their hands tied. She wants to fight back but the stalker is always in the shadows and she does not have know when or where he is going to strike again. It could be a letter under her door, a present left on her car, or hurting someone close to her. Two of the contestants from the show are murdered while she is wrestling with her finding out who her stalker is. The reader will find him/herself switching from one person to another as a suspect.

It all comes to a quick conclusion when the stalker presents himself to her. Will she be able to talk him out of his obsession or will it end badly for her or him? There are some very interesting twists in the story. A very good read. Good job.

Good thing that summer is just around the corner because you’ll want to add Stacy Juba’s mystery Sink or Swim to your vacation list. It’s a fun, relaxing read. The reluctant sleuth, Cassidy, is the runner-up on a reality show called Sink or Swim, where the contestants are crew members on a tall ship. When a contestant is voted off, he or she has to walk the plank. It’s a clever set up that pulls you in right from the start.

When Cassidy returns home, her life is not the same as what she’d left. She’s a personal trainer, and although her client load picks up, she’s not satisfied with the way things turn out. Her boss is a jerk. Her dream of her own line of gyms is still out of reach. Plus she’s got a new class of clients: the gawkers and hangers-on. Add to that a stalker, whose letters quickly turn from friendly to threatening. After two of the other contestants are murdered, Cassidy begins to fear for her life. With plenty of suspects to pick from, and as many red herrings to throw you off the track, you’ll be guessing until the satisfying conclusion.

The story moves along quickly, and you won’t want to put it down! Make a vacation list on your Kindle and add Sink or Swim to the top.

Cassidy has come in second on the reality t.v. show Sink or Swim. Now she is stuck going back to her old job and her dreams of owning her own gym are out of her reach. Once back home, she has become somewhat like a celebrity and the local paper wants to have a reporter and a cute photographer, Zach, follow her around. Cassidy thinks it is a good idea until she starts receiving love notes from "Miles". She definitely does not want anyone to know about this and blow it out of proportion. After two of her former castmates are found dead, Cassidy reconsiders and goes to the police. Now she is looking around every corner wondering who this stalker is and what is he going to do next.

Love, love Cassidy! She is a very believable character. Juba has done a great job making this book seem like something that had actually happened. I never knew who the actually stalker was (which is a HUGE plus in my book). Cassidy also never made those irritating classic air-headed decisions that really annoy me. The book has a few twists and turns that keep it interesting and builds up to a great conclusion. I definitely recommend this book...:)

Sudden riches and newfound fame are both a notorious way to attract people trying to befriend you for all the wrong reasons. Cassidy Novak returns home to her old job after narrowly missing the big prize on a reality show. She hopes to find a way to leverage her 15 minutes of fame into enough money to start her own business. Then she discovers the downside, with people making claims on her time she doesn’t want to give, and a stalker, who could be one of many different people.

With the rise of reality shows over the last several years, I’m surprised no one has used the premise of "Sink or Swim" before now. It has all the ingredients for a good story. Someone experiencing the changes that come with sudden fame is a magnet for crazies and those who hope to ride their coattails. Those who are smart, as Cassidy is, are aware of this, which increases their natural suspicions about other people’s motives. Juba takes full advantage of the potential in this premise to maintain the tension throughout.

I had the opportunity to read Ms. Juba's first book (Twenty Five Years Later) back in March and I was incredibly impressed with her writing so I was truly looking forward to her next book. When I was offered the opportunity to read her new book I jumped at the offer. To be honest I actually stopped what I was reading to read her new book Sink or Swim. I was not disappointed! It is about Cassidy, a fitness trainer, who goes on a reality show and finishes second. On returning to the real world she becomes the vicitim of a stalker. I read the book in a single sitting - it had all the key ingredients of a great mystery novel. The characters were interesting, the story was intriguing (and too realistic) but most importantly the writing made you feel as if you were actually part of the story. Be careful of jumping to conclusions on the identity of the stalker. If you love mysteries this is a must read! I will look forward to Ms. Juba's next book.

Being a fan of "Survivor," I was really interested in reading this book so that I could get a sense of what life is really like when a reality star returns home. The main character is Cassidy Novak who came in 2nd place on the reality tv show, "Sink or Swim." Cassidy doesn't have much peace and quiet when she gets home because she is now recognized when she goes out in public.

Cassidy soon finds out that she has a stalker. That is where the story takes us.... on the trail of the stalker and finding out who it is.

I thought this book was very well written and very engaging. Once I picked it up, I didn't want to put it down. The main character, Cassidy, is flawed and human and that is what makes her interesting. How she handles her stalker and her new fame kept me interested. I would definitely recommend this book

Stacy Juba's contemporary romance,SINK OR SWIM has an interesting premise. It's the story of a young woman who's suddenly famous after having been a contestant on a reality TV game show.
The character herself is interesting. She's part driven, part innocent, part tough, part insecure. I was scratching my head at her crush on an engaged man, but then she redeems herself when faced with the opportunity to act on her crush. She can be a brat to those who love her, but she usually comes around & owns her behavior. In essence, she's a very realistic character. Juba's romance is packed with plot & down plays the romance for those who prefer their romances on the mild sensuality side (which many peopl do!)
I enjoyed the book & look forward to reading her more recent series.

It was pretty good. Even I couldn't figure out who her stalker was.

PLOT:
Personal trainer Cassidy Novak garners popularity and fame while starring in a hit reality show. She catches the attention of an obsessive stalker that turns her well-ordered life topsy-turvy. As Cassidy's competitors disappear in a string of murders, she teams up with Zach Gallagher, the photographer tasked to record her personal moments for a local newspaper. Is Zach trustworthy? He shadows her as easily as the stalker. Cassidy hates the bizarre rules in this guessing game, but when her stalker forces a showdown, she plays to win.

An intriguing suspenseful novel. When fitness trainer comes in second in the reality TV show, Sink or Swim, all her plans to build a chain of personal fitness salons are pushed to the background. It doesn't feel as that things can get any worse until she realizes that she has a celebrity stalker. An investigation into past celebrity stalkings makes terrifies her and things only get worse when a member of the SOS cast is murdered.

I won the book in a multiple author drawing.

While I don't think I'll read other books in this series, this was a great suspense story. It wasn't overly violent, but just not my cup of tea.

I thought I had it figured out who the stalker was, but was surprised at the ending.
