From USA Today Bestselling Author Amelia Hutchins comes a tale of love, war, and treachery. Aria faces new challenges and tribulations within the Nine Realms. One king who yearns to control her, and own her body, mind, and soul . . . A council who has deemed her too dangerous to live . . . And one fate she never asked for, but can’t escape. What’s a girl to do? Within the Nine Realms, treachery runs deep. War lingers on the horizon, as armies gather deeply within the shadows. The land has chosen its hero, but war demands a hefty price—one Aria may not be willing to pay. Those she thought to trust have betrayed her. The council has declared her the enemy. Everything that can be stolen from her has been snatched from her grasp. When everyone is pushing her to become the villain they claim her to be, will she be able to become the monster the realms need? Aria was created to rule the Nine Realms. Will she allow them to guide her future, or will she forge her own path? Well-behaved women never make history. But no one forgets the misbehaved woman with honed claws and teeth.

omg. why on earth do i keep doing this to myself?? i thought i learned my lesson after book #2 - AHs writing is so tediously and painfully repetitive. its the ultimate example of one step forward, two steps back. but i just cant. stop. reading!?
i honestly dont know if i have the mental capacity to keep up with this all the way to book #7. lol. and i truly have no idea why i keep trying. maybe its the guilty pleasure aspect of it all - the fact that its so bad, i just cant help but continue. because even though the writing is horrible and the actual story itself isnt much better, im perfectly willing to read 600+ pages of it just to find out what happens.
so catch me complaining about this series yet again after the next book comes out and i compulsively read it. 😂
Dear Miss Author, If you ever come across my comment in future would you please consider releasing the book as soon as possible 😭the suspense is killing me, the fact that i am so addicted to this series , so much that i come here to check for the date of publication every two weeks💀, so kindly relieve me from this torture and let me live again 😭 .Hope you understand :') ,thank you
I literally hate Amelia Hutchins right now...I swear if I could scream at her in person I would...I mean who keeps readers like us waiting and that too after such an angsty ending to the last one...DUDE RELEASE THE NEXT BOOK NA PLEASE...I cant believe I would ever be so eager for a book to release...but can you blame me...we dont even have the release date for crying out loud...no release might be fine...but we dont even have the blurb right now...its killing me...SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RELEASE THIS BOOK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE...until then I'll just keep obsessing...AND ALSO IF U FEEL LIKE I WAS RUDE...IGNORE IT

I went into this book with so many theories and scenarios that I was honestly shocked that it didn’t pan out that way - this was not at all what I expected (and not because it was bad OH NO but because it was refreshing to be shocked beyond belief so many times since most book twists nowadays seem so predictable).
I have a lot to say and a massive number of feelings so let’s dive in:
About 90% of my theories were wrong for this book. The only thing I was on the money on was Aria being pregnant and that Aurora was a lying bitch who was never for a moment was not thinking of herself. The fact Aria’s sisters knew of the horror that she dealt with as a child and the fact she isn’t their sister really puts things into perspective. I am glad Aria let go of that responsibility to protect them and no longer has to put herself in danger to keep them safe.
Aurora is revealed to being Aria's mother. Freya was Amara's mother, but Amara's twin died in the womb, while Aria ate her twin in the womb so they figured they could trick everyone. It's insane.
Knox is and will always be the most tortured MC I have ever read. I hated him in book 1-3 to the point where I loved him even more because I knew he would end up on her side and being who I knew he could be. However, with that being said I genuinely thought (especially with how Book 3 ended) he would be horrible again in this book and treat her with utter disrespect BUT Amelia once again brilliantly twisted that into him coming to terms on his own from page 1 - 100% no longer wishing her harm from himself or anyone else and no longer wishes to be her enemy nor her villain.
The fact he spent more time in the book (whenever he physically could) saying he just wanted to hold her was beautiful and showed his growth. He stands by her and will be the shield to protect her. Also let’s not forget his constant need to be WORTHY of her. Holy 180 Batman.
He was HEXED - to forever mourn his wife/son and so was the entire kingdom. Celia also placed things in his custom-made chest to hex him from feeling emotions other than anger etc. Glad he killed Celia. It didn’t hurt when Gideon died as we never got to know him like we do with the other guys. Celia was working with the witches and was being ''blackmailed'' to keep herself on their good side, which resulted in a bunch of shit happening because of her. She is the reason that Liliana died after Sven died, she removed the necklace from her neck and that was the cause of her death. She was just a horrible person, and I am glad that her fate was sealed in this book. I could NOT deal with anymore of her. ALSOOOOO you know how she said and Knox believed they had slept together? It was a LIE - she made it up and Killian proved it was false. Thank fuck.
The daughters they never got to have truly broke me. I figured she was pregnant in COC but I never really expected her to lose them. Knox’s dedication to them was such a tender moment. The honor he gave them was breathtaking.
Two of my favorite lines in the book are from Knox: “I’ll breath for you, if you’ll let me, I’ll do it for you Aria” & “Don’t add your name to my ghost” 🥺
Hecate being utterly obsessed with Knox is hilarious and pathetic. She seems to hold grudges over men who don’t want her 👀I sense a pattern and it's not a good look on her.
We know what Aria and Knox are - I suspected this and glad it was confirmed, and we also found out about her father and that whole mess. Dragons and Phoenixes are going to be a huge part of book 5 and I am super excited.
Can’t wait to see her in the new Kingdom and how that will unfold. I don’t like Aden, nor do I trust him and also Griffon but that’s because I don’t trust the parents in any of Amelia’s books (they always turn out to be evil lol).
Few random thoughts: Lore reveal was interesting, BLACK ROSES!, “My girl” being said so many times I wanted to cry, I loved that Knox never truly thought of Liliana or bring the ghosts of her and Sven into the room with Aria to hurt her as he did before, Esme and Aria being BFF is perfect, Knox revealing he created her a fantasy section in the library was so sweet and whenever he stood up for her.
Now do I think she is pregnant again after that Ember and Lennox decided to do? Yes-ish and if she is - I kind of hope it’s twin boys or girl/boy. Despite the prophecy most likely now being the SUN - I still want her to be a mother but it will be tough for her to be pregnant considering she is in an unknown territory and Hecate will attempt to hurt her again.
Do I trust her sisters after what they revealed? Nope, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and be cautious. I want to believe they love her and truly care but there is something missing and I cannot pinpoint it.
OW drama: Aria is led to believe two things. 1) Knox and Celia are together 2) Knox is engaged to Sabine. Both of which were FALSE. Knox never wanted Celia and regretted everything he ever did with her up until the point he found he never slept with her which he found relief in that nd Sabine was never his fiancé because while she was engaged to the KING, Brander was Knox's proxy which made him the King and Sabine's fiancé.
OM drama: Aria kisses another guy who is the holder of the wind element. He is also an incubus, so it was inevitable. She does that in front of Knox and everyone after finding out he is ''engaged''. That's as far as it goes.
I seriously have so much to say about this, but I won’t write it all down as it will take forever.
In all honestly this was such an incredibly book with mind-blowing reveals and revelations.
Can’t wait for book 5,6 & 7 and any other books Amelia decides to grace us with.
No wonder it’s so long! I went on a reread binge in order to remember everything that had happened before this book (it had been over a year since book 3 came out). Man… so much happens.
Book 4 starts off with Aria dreaming of dragons and phoenixes, of her father, of Aden. She has lots of questions about her role in the grand scheme of the Nine Realms and the biggest question she has relates to her origin. The council wants to cage her up, but Aria isn’t going to let them catch her. She continues to use the library since it knows her and allows her to seek refuge there. Knox smells her and senses her, but Aria won’t allow him to see her. He misses so much, but Aria is having a hard time trusting him.
Oh man. I have to say. I did not know how Knox was going to turn around in this book. I mean, the ending of book 3 was gut-wrenching for him😬. Finding out his wife was someone else was horrible. Buuuut I love how much he grows and he realizes Aria’s not his enemy❤️. He acknowledges that she’s his true mate, his person, his everything, and gahhhhh I was actually swooooning a lot🥰. I. COULD. NOT. BELIEVE. IT. For once, I didn’t wanna smack him lol. I’m totally loving him right now.
This book was tough in many aspects. The amount of betrayals, twists, deaths, heartbreaks… ugh… it was a lot. Chapter 15 was a tough one to go through. I was in my feelings for both Aria and Knox 🥺. The way Knox comforts Aria was so sweet yet admirable ❤️. She needed him, he knew that, and the way they come together was deeply emotional. I reread that scene because of how connected and vulnerable they were. Gahhh 🥺❤️.
One minute you think you can trust someone, then something happens where you want those characters to die, then you find out you CAN trust that person, then you can’t, then there’s a new revelation. I mean 🤯 left and right!!!
I also appreciated a couple of victories 😈 especially the big one that stops being a problem ☠️ 💅. I was loooooving that scene 💁🏻♀️ and applauding the actions that were taken 👏🏻. Annnnnd I am so excited to see how much more powerful Aria’s gonna get. The scenes where she’s able to demonstrate she’s not weak were cinematic and inspirational.
My favorite scenes were, of course, the scenes with both Aria and Knox together. They were separated a lot, but when they were together, holy f… it was worth it. The tension 🔥 the chemistry 🥵the connection ❤️the passion 😅the rawness of it all is simply scrumptious and delicious 😉. Four books in and their connection only gets deeper. I thought that maybe Knox was going to come in swinging, considering how pissed off he was at the end of book 3, but he was more analytical instead. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t have minded some physical fighting between then, but that didn’t really happen and I was fine with it. I enjoyed this too.
Luckily, the cliffy isn’t as bad S the previous books😅.
Ember CRACKS ME UP!! I mean, I also appreciated the banter between Aria and Esme lol.
What bothered me- the grammar/typos. Some were obvious ones (like missing letters).
Annnnd… I wish we have more couple time between Aria and Knox… the way the cliffhanger happened, I have a feeling they’ll be separated a lot in book 5 😩.
I loved it! I hope we don’t have to wait too long for book 5😅😬.

I don’t understand how it’s possible, but this series just keeps getting better and better. This was by far the best book in the series! Amelia Hutchins has outdone herself!
Just a couple of minor complaints: Amelia needs to get a better editor! I thought this book had more grammatical/typographical/spelling issues. Also, although I thought this was the best book in terms of the plot, the smut (which is usually SO good in Amelia Hutchins’ books) was sadly lacking; in fact, Knox and Aria were apart for the majority of this book. Despite those issues I ADORED this! Normally, a lack of smut would make me lose interest, especially when combined with grammatical errors, but the plot was just SOOOOOO good that I didn’t even care. It was a rollercoaster! I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat in suspense, I yelled at my kindle in anger, I was all over the place and LOVED it!
This is by far one of my favourite series. I’m so sad that I have to wait MONTHS until the next book comes out 😭😭😭.
There is an improvement over the flow of the story, the improvement of character development extends to beyond just Aria and Knox, the mature content isn't straight-up porn, but I still believe a good editor could make this series shine. the biggest problems I have is that: by the end of the novel it is revealed that Aria had been planning several things all along, part of her master plan right, but there was never ever ever any indication that she thought so far ahead AND the dialogue sounds like a 15-year-old was typing away in Wattpad at 2am. If there had been any comment or even inner thoughts that something a LOT deeper was brewing, ok, but there was nothing. And a huge part of the POV isn't spoken dialogue but inner dialogue and thought. The author does this with Knox as well, trying to place him ahead using events from the last book that just ring false.
The author is a massive writer, constantly putting out novels from what i can see. And they arent short novellas either. I think part of the problem is that no one is editing her books enough to catch her mistakes and she writes so furiously that she misses have the things.
like i said. overall, better than the first, a diamond in the rough, with enough development that i wonder what could be next. Due to the pandemic i read them all, i was bored. But avoid these series if you can find something better.
Don’t even try coming for my girl, this book is a masterpiece! Amelia is a beast when it comes to plot, and I’m not disappointed! If you’re a lover of epic fantasy, especially ones with beautifully crafted plot and range of characters, political drama, myth and legends, this one is for you.
Definitely the best book within this series so far and was worth all the wait! I’m dying to read the next book and I’m beyond grateful for Amelia’s work: you can see that she’s poured her heart, soul, sweat and tears in it and I’m appreciative of her dedication and hardwork.
I don’t possess the ability to write detailed and eloquent book reviews and so I’m not able to convey with words what this book brought me, know that it’s just THAT good and I can already tell that it’s going to be one of my favorite books of the year!
Only Amelia could reveal Knox's biggest secrets in passing sentences and justify Knox's behaviour from two books ago in a way that's so incredibly clever. ❤️️
✨ MY REVIEWS CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK AND THE PREVIOUS BOOKS IF IT IS A PART OF A SERIES ✨
This book was thick but it was worth every minute of the 16 hours it took me to read. Crown and Ruins are now sharing first place in this series. This book would have had the first place solo, but it lacked a few things from Ruins I adored. Don't take me the wrong way, I still enjoyed and loved the crap out of this book and I'm still struggling to wait for the next one. 😔
I will start by saying that I loved everything about Knox in this book. I can finally he is redeeming himself and I couldn't find one thing he did wrong in this book. The amount of highlights I have of his words is astounding. The reveal about his hot and cold persona being mostly caused by hex bags and that C bitch shocked me and I can't praise Amelia enough for doing it. I felt like it was over the top sometimes and I wasn't vibing with it, but it was caused by freaking hex bags all along. His declaration, his words, his way of showing his feelings, his dirty mouth, his protectiveness, everything was stellar in this book. Even though Knox's change of heart was the main character progress in this book, I can't forget about my boss babe Aria. I would follow her anywhere in this world and even in the fictional ones. She is just so good, she is still human and made a mistake but she is self-aware, fights for the right reasons, doesn't let herself become a monster, stopped being thrown around and used by everyone around her and will make Knox grovel, I know it for sure. I keep saying she can't get better but she still surprises me with her power, resilience and strength not to succumb to the physical, mental and emotional pain she is suffering in every book. Their relationship progressed from enemies to something more and I'm praying they won't ever go back to being enemies, but with Knox's promises, I can't see it going anywhere but up from here. Even though the separation they are going through will hopefully make their love for each other stronger and they will rule together. The fact that Aria was pregnant made me cry with happy tears and then chapter 16 happened and I knew what was happening right away because Amelia left some clues throughout the previous chapters. The way those chapters were written brought so much heartbreak and I cried like a baby through them. Knox and Aria have fought to be together even though they aren't meant to be and they will rattle the stars together. Aria saved Knox's life in an amazing fashion and Knox repaid the debt twice. Knox did also a lot of sweet things, like hide his daughters' memory in his tattoos, made the ifrit carve them, brought Aria roses. He shows his love through his actions and I can't wait for him to be a father again. The fact that Aria is the son from the prophecy is so clever again and I'm relieved by it cause Hecate deserves to die by her hand and I didn't want a time jump to adulthood of the possible son of Knox and Aria. I'm also thinking Lennox and Ember made another baby and I'm wishing everything will be alright and her pregnancy will save her from any sus acts from Aden and others from the Kingdom of Fire. I almost forgot to mention how much the fact that Aria spelled her womb with the father rune and Knox's name hidden into it. How fucking adorable. ❤️️❤️️❤️️
There were a lot of deaths in this book, Reign and Rhaghana, Aria's sisters who fought bravely, Gideon, Knox's brother whose death was caused by C bitch, Callista, killed accidentally by Knox (I hope it won't create an obstacle in their relationship) and Luna, who was possessed by Hecate. However, also, some coming back from dead. Killian said this sentence in passing about Freya, Hysteria and her daughters not being dead but entombed. I'm sorry, WHAT? Sneaky Knox with his secrets! With these deaths and resurrections also came a staggering number of revelations and plot twists. Aurora is actually Freya but not in a way we expected, turns out Aurora is Mommy Dearest of our Aria and she was undermining and deceiving Aria while Aria was saving their asses. She also tried many times to kill Aria with Freya when she was a baby and Aria always came back. Celia knew about Kamara, was controlled by Hecate to do bad deeds to Knox and lied about sleeping with Knox. What a fucking waste of space that bitch was. Knox offered his head to Aria as a sort of offering and I felt him blushing all the way here from the way he was showing his catch to his mate. Hecate is also in love with Knox. The council sucks and isn't much under Knox's influence. Aria's sisters turned on her but wait, it wasn't real and only a ploy in front of Aurora. Sabina could be marrying Brander, the proxy King of Norvalla. Hecate fought with Aria three times, everyone hates Aria and while everyone was making alliances Aria was fighting witches. But, no worries, Aria stole another element and made a deal with Elias, the Keeper of the wind element, who is by the way, incredibly hot! This series is now a little bit of omegaverse because our dear Knox can knot and Aria, the alpha, find her beta, our resident snarky witch, Esme. Also, haha, one of Knox's brothers is only his half brother and his mother is a deceiving demon queen. I'm willing to bet it's Lore because of their similar characteristics. This about sums up the clusterfuck of new information we have gotten from COC. 😂
This book is also finally about Aria finding people she can count on. She found a best friend, fellow beast and beta in Esme. Friends and sisters in Soraya and Siobhan and they all brought two new bitches into the mix, Avy and Jasmine. I'm thankful to Amelia for finally writing in people who will have Aria's back no matter what. I know Esme is her ride or die now, Soraya and the two new ones could deceive us still but I'm not betting on that. The found family aspect of this book is making me really excited about the next ones. When talking about the side characters, I can't help noticing Amelia giving us subtle hints that Brander and Soraya will end up together and I'm still not sure about Esme, Killian, Lore and Siobhan but I'm wishing the happiest match for all of them. I wouldn't mind novellas/chapters in the remaining book about the couples that will happen. Killian, Brander, Lore and Greer all made me giddy by their dedication and care for Aria in this book, even if they stood on the opposing sites. Greer is Aria's number one fan and you can't tell me otherwise.
Now, onto the sad part. I have to mention a few little things I missed or were lacking in this book. The first thing is the smut. I was hoping Knox and Aria would have found a way to be together sooner than 85%, not necessarily physically, but overall. I liked how Knox made it her choice, it makes him even better in my eyes but still, I was missing them together. There were only two chapters with them getting in on. The first one had steamy desk sex but was humorously interrupted by Kinny and Sabine. The second chapter was all Lennox and Ember and I didn't find it as hot when it wasn't with one of the "shells". The second thing was the interaction between Knox's family and Aria and even her found family. I know there were a few chapters where they met but Soraya didn't even meet Brander in this book and I missed the banter, Lore's horny remarks, Greer's support, Brander's flirting and Killian's domineering stance which has changed and he is now team Aria. The next book will start with everyone separated again but I'm hoping Amelia will reunite everyone sooner than in COC. Killian was also affected by the hex bags, in my opinion, mostly when they were interrogating Aria at the beginning of Ruins and he was changing his behaviour from "I hate Aria" to "Knox, why are you so hateful towards Aria" to "I hate Aria" in the span of few pages.
Overall, this book was proof that Amelia's writing has a lot of depth to it and she is planning everything in advance and we can't trust and immediately react to anything till we know the full story. She plans on doing three more books and I hope the next one comes in the summer at the latest. 🤞
Lastly, I have to mention things I want to be explained in the next book, or things that are nibbling at my mind. I will save my theories for the reread because I always think about things differently in the rereads. The information I need is concerning: ✧ Sven's origin. Who is he? Could he be Freya's son? ✧ What's going to happen with the newly undead witches? ✧ What race was Amara? Why is she fireproof like Aria? There is still some secrecy surrounding her ✧ The medallion Aria picked up in the first chapter has to play a role. Knox mentioned something about a medallion in regards to Gideon ✧ The rest of the Keepers. I like they show Aria the futures and are always badass ✧ Will Aria and Knox marry each other for love, now that their marriage was nullified? ✧ Everything surrounding the Kingdom of Fire people. The possibilities bring me a headache ✧ Knox is a dragon (I bet it's the red one from the first chapter) and we suspect Aria being a phoenix, but I feel like she will be a mixed breed of dragon and a phoenix. Ember is a growing girl and I feel like that fits dragon more but I know she has some phoenix in her. I feel like this was hinted a lot in the vision Aria and Esme saw in the library. ✧ Aria is merging with Ember because she is losing her coloured sight, or does it have to do something with Avy? She is also showing a little bit of the consequences of using dark witch magic with her fingers stained and the colour not returning to normal ✧ Dimitri. I know there will be something with him when he returns from ice ✧ Hecate was placing her dark magic into unborn babies. This has to have something to do with the "curse" she placed on her bloodline. There is still the connection of Hecate controlling those witches, who lost their sons (Kamara and Luna). Based on what Celia said and what Aria saw when she fought Luna, they were both long dead and were only shells. ✧ What's up with Sabine hiding runes in Aria's tattoos. ✧ The mother who born the first boy with a face from the Hecate line. Aria didn't know which Hecate's daughter she could have come from.
That's definitely not the last of my theories, I will write more after rereading for the release of QOC.
Bless you and your family, Ms. Hutchins. Nothing is more important than taking the time you need to heal. Don’t feel you need to apologize after all you’ve been through. Please don’t add guilt on top of everything else you’ve gone through. (Some of us have waited more than 10 times longer for the next Kingkiller Cronicles book, and Patrick R. doesn’t offer explanations or apologies.) We are all blessed to be allowed a glimpse into your awesome imagination. Thank you for sharing it with us!!!
This is my all time favourite series. Aria is a bad ass heroine who only gets better with each book, and Knox is such an alpha-hole. It is not an easy read and that why it is so good. It is incredibly real. You feel every emotion, every high and every low. There are moments so raw you can’t help but fall into this world. Amelia has created magic within these pages. Can’t recommend enough !!!!
It must be that the novelty of reading such violent, passionate characters with a badass lead woman is fading away because I didn't really enjoy reading this book. There were moments of a character's inner thoughts that were stretched for far too long, and moments- especially the end, which is becoming a recurring pattern- where events are rapidly outlined sequentially. Providing little to no justification for the build-up provided over the course of the book.
While I do have to appreciate the progress that is FINALLY being made in terms of Knox and Aria's relationship, it has been stretched for far too long to provide any real satisfaction.
At this point, I'll only be continuing the series to mark it complete.
No wonder it’s so long! I went on a reread binge in order to remember everything that had happened before this book (it had been over a year since book 3 came out). Man… so much happens.

I had huge expectations for this book. Sadly, it's my least favorite of the series. I am a big fan! But..... what happened here? I'm literally baffled at the high average ratings for this book.
Legacy of the Nine Realms is one of my favorite series. Let's get that out there to start. The concept of the Nine Realms, societal, and cultural structure of various species, is interesting. The history of the story kind of comes together as you go. Mystery and suspense of the present is significantly related to historical world events, characters, and choices. There is a HUGE cast of secondary and tertiary characters. They are rich, vibrant, and emotive.
I think for me, being in a fan group of Amelia's detracted somewhat from the story. Let me explain! Amelia has had a helluva year. So many stressors, obstacles and tragedies to overcome and cope with. Periodically, she'd release these exceptionally long, defensive "rants" in the group to justify the wait for this book. Let's be real. Amelia churns out books rapidly (more on this in a minute). There is no need for justification. Why did this impact my read of CoC? The characters repeatedly and repetitively engage in similar rants throughout the entire book. In fact, a good portion of this book was unnecessary dialogue.
I cannot emphasize how important good editing is. I can't help but wonder if this book could have been phenomenally better with more t.i.m.e. As noted, Amelia can be a powerhouse author, releasing books back to back through each year. But what if she just took more time for her, didn't rush it, and spent the time needed to bring a book from good to breathtaking? The book's poor editing and ADHD flow were significant detractors for me.
I'm not the kind of picky reader that blasts a book for the odd typo or error. To be human is to err. However, when these happen - over and over and over again, nearly every page - it's time to slow down and do the job right:
- Overuse of a desciptive term in a short excerpt. Eg. 6 uses of "smirked" in 2 paragraphs; 7 uses of "horror" in a page and a half, etc. A.k.a. Repetition. Here's one example I highlighted from the book: <"Honestly, I don't know." She said, honestly.>
- Malapropisms: Can be pretty awful in the middle of a character's righteous and empassioned rant and ruin the mood of a whole scene... a good example: Using "Supposovely" instead of "supposedly."
- Completely disrupted sentences where even guess-work couldn't help to figure out meaning.
- Disjointed scenes- Eg: conversation between characters switches settings without a transition or characters suddenly present that previously weren't.
- Excruciating revisits of entire discussions between characters on the same topics. Especially sex scenes. Dude.....Aria and Knox TALK LIKE ROMANCE WRITERS the whole time they're having sex! I tried imagining if a man verbalized like a pnr author in bed..... I'd probably die of laughter!
- There's sexy sex scenes, and then there's "ok.... like, get on with it and shut up already." Dragging out the scene for 30 pages is boring. If I have to read one more of the word "need".....
There were two memorable scenes that I feel were exceptionally well done. I don't want to be specific, because of spoilers, but the first tragedy scene is gutwrenching. It was well-written, emotionally evocative, and believable. So was the reunion scene.
I feel like most of this book was filler material, not containing events of significance to propel the series plot with the same measure of expectation and intrigue. I'll probably keep reading the next books because of the overall world. But, if editing keeps going this route, I'm not sure I can enjoy the overall story.
After I read CoC, I read some of my other fave authors' new releases. Also indie authors. The difference between writers and editing quality was glaring, and improved editing enriched the reading experience tenfold.
An absolutely wild ride and this lengthy installment was worth the 4 days it took me to finish. Aria is without a doubt one of the best female leads out there, she isn't perfect and is frustrating at times but still everything about her leaves an impression.
"I hear the Nine Realms welcoming me as its rightful heir and offering me everything it is. I guess that gives me the advantage of the home team, correct? Listen to it sing for me, offering to crush anyone who stands in my way. It’s so pretty, isn’t it?” I tilted my head, hearing the whimpers of the people and the world seeking to destroy them at my behest.
We have Aria evolving into a far stronger and wiser person. I felt absolutely frustrated initially because of her choices but I guess with her sense of loyalty and care for her loved ones she needed a wake-up call and that was one heart-wrenching price she paid in ( btw the betrayal wasn't any surprise considering most had already guessed what was coming since the last installment). I am utterly impressed how with each installment, the author has shown Aria grow and evolve organically and not just her but Knox too.
It was a surprising but a good turn of events to see Knox on the suffering end of the relationship making efforts for her and feeling lost and desolate without her. The first 3 books we just saw most of the effort and struggle from Aria's side to make something out of their mate bond but this time it was Knox's turn to stew.
"I intend to prove to you that it’s you I want. If I have to spend the rest of our lives proving that to you, I will. I’ll fight to ensure you’re protected, even if it means going against the entire Nine Realms to make sure you’re safe. I’ll do whatever it takes to make you see that you’re worth fighting for. You’re my queen."
Also besides their love story moving towards a more meaningful and deep bond there was also a good chunk of progress from past secrets and conspiracies being unearthed to delving deeper into the origins of their existence and stepping up their game to save Nine realms.
Phew! Now waiting for the next installment with bated breath and hoping we don't have to wait for long!
I love these books ! I just finished ruins of chaos, I can’t find a date for the fourth book when it’s going to be released?!!!!! For crying out loud Amelia please give us a date for the fourth book. I’ve tried pre-ordering it and there’s nowhere to pre-order
For all those saying "still waiting" and asking for a release date. Amelia isn't finished the book yet. She also has had one hell of a rough year in her personal life. So be patient with the queen.
I'm done. I honestly tried soooooo hard with this series. Book 3 actually did give me hope that things would improve. The beginning of this one started off good!!! Then - it was just more of the same exhausting shit.
Aria running away from Knox. Him catching her. He's a bastard and breaks her heart. She escapes. Wash, rinse, repeat.
There's not even sex in this one!!! These two assholes have sex ONE TIME at the 85% mark and I'll be honest - I SKIMMED IT!!!! I hated these people so much by this point that I just hoped everyone died.
I don't do long books - and you know this series is so fucking long. Author needs to suck a dick and shut the fuck up. I hate Knox so much and I don't care what excuse there was that he behaved the way he did - I don't forgive him. You can only kick a dog so many times before it bites back. I'm even at the point where I don't like Aria because she forgives him too often and too easily.
If she had left Knox for Brander, Killian, or Lore - I would have kept reading. Hell - I'd even take her with the dead bastard Dimitri.
Anyway - I'm done with the series. Don't care wtf happens at this point.
