I was lucky to escape my last pack with nothing but a few scars--a cheap price to pay for my freedom.
It was supposed to be just another run to calm my wolf, but I wasn’t going to ignore those cubs’ screams for help--even if they were from a rival pack. What I didn’t expect to find was a feral vampire, or the wolf who would change everything.
The Alpha who caught me is like all the others--all raging temper and muscles. And yet…his pack is different than mine.
But no matter how much my wolf cries ‘mate’, I need to break free. It’s time I accept the truth: I don’t belong anywhere. My wolf will never settle for anything less than she is, and no other wolf will accept what I am:
Different, an anomaly… A female Alpha.
Perfect for fans of Jaymin Eve, Kelly St. Clare, Leia Stone, Linsey Hall, and other PNR Indie Author Goddesses. If you enjoy sexy alpha-holes and a headstrong heroine, with humor, steam, and action, this is for you! Recommended for 18+ due to explicit scenes and language.
How on earth am I supposed to wait for the next book???? With that ending???? I needed book 2 like yesterday! The moment I picked this book up, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! Oh my word! What a book! Gripping from the very beginning, it didn't let up. A fabulous steady pace, building up to a thrilling, if somewhat unexpected cliffhanger. And OMG Bailey is everything I need or want in an MC, stubborn, resolute, funny, compassionate, extremely likeable! Derrick is a magnificent character, erring a bit on what he perceives as being best for his pack, but supportive and totally lovable. The theme of the plot might seem like most shapeshifter fantasy, but trust me, it's not! There's a freshness about this storyline that kept me entertained throughout. Yes, there is romance but not in your face, very credible, very well defined within the storyline. There is so much more to this book to explore, and as I said at the start of my review, I'm rearing to get into the next book. I suppose I should give the authors a chance to write it first..... The sheer imagination of the authors is captured so succinctly, so enthrallingly, that I challenge anyone to try delay reading it in one sitting. This is a book shapeshifter lovers dare not miss out on!
I actually really liked this book. Although the story wasn’t anything particularly new, it was told very well and made me want to keep reading. In fact, it was a good, solid four star read for me until the end. I’ve never been a fan of cliffhangers, but I accept that they have become pretty common place so I deal. BUT, there are degrees within that trope. And the type used in this story just makes my blood boil. It ratchets up the tension, then throws in an absolute horrendous conclusion that leaves the reader gutted as they are hurled off that cliff - with the next book not even publishing for a YEAR!!! That is such a slap in a reader’s face after they have spent their hard earned money and time investing in the author’s work. It reeks of emotional blackmail that requires purchase of the next book. It makes me so mad that I DON’T want to continue. And that is sad because the book, and series had such potential.
The Yosemite and Yellowstone were once a singular pack. Now, they are enemies. While the Yellowstone has progressed with the ages, Yosemite still treats its woman as slaves. Bailey is a Yosemite pack wolf who escaped because of her secret. One night, on a run, she encounters a vampire going after two cubs and immediately intervenes. Little did she know the alpha of the Yellowstone is right behind her. Derrick is the new alpha, after defeating the man who killed his father, Victor. To bring stability into his pack, he agreed to mate with the ex-alpha Victor's daughter, Rebecca. His wolf, however, remains reluctant.
I deeply enjoyed the plot. The banter that Bailey brought added another layer to the book. The only tiff which made me reluctant is that I often connect with characters through their demeanor and dialogues. Though Derrick is 27, I didn’t feel it. He wasn’t immature. It's just I have read so many alpha's, he fell a little shorter on the scale. Yellowstone has 100 wolves, but it didn't feel like that. So I guess what I meant is I would have liked better word and world building. Other than that it was written very well.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars. I took away half of a point for that cliffhanger. *internally cries*
SIDE NOTE: Minor hints that could potentially be considered spoilers so be mindful before reading..
Overall, the story was strong. Great characters, the plot was fun though I personally found it a bit predictable in certain areas, though I wasn't expecting what happened at the end (her submission) Pacing was nice and not too fast or bogged down. Everything had a purpose and I didn't find any plot holes or confusion so overall it was a great read.
I LOVED BAILEY! Seriously, strong female *alpha* werewolf is what I never knew I needed in a story like this. She has to hide her true self and throughout the book struggles with it. I really can't wait to see how she flourishes as the story continues in book two. I want to see her wolf take charge!!
Derrick was also great and super yummy! I did, sometimes, find him a bit overbearing in the sense that he felt like he had to assert his dominance over EVERYONE. I get that he is alpha and that's what an alpha does, but the second he is questioned even by his Beta, it's like he wants to rip off their head. I do get the reasoning behind this though so it really wasn't an issue for me.
Plot, I really liked the overall premise. The world building and such was pretty spot on two. I can't say that I found much I didn't like with this, so kudos to the authors!!
I definitely recommend this for any UF/PNR lovers. It was a quick and easy read and one that I thoroughly enjoyed and look forward to reading the next one. Let's just hope that one doesn't end in a horrific cliff hanger too because my heart cant take it!! LOL
Chained is not a bad start for a shifter series. It definitely gives all the things you want from a shifter romance but for the main female alpha usp of this series, it’s lacking and irritatingly too barebones.
For the first thing to be mentioned is the whole other woman thing which is very clear cut you know like the guy doesn’t see it anything more than an arranged thing and Rebecca is shown as a complete one dimensional bitchy character so you don’t see the FMC Bailey as a bad person but this thing is played till the end chapters. He doesn’t do anything physically with Rebecca so the book is safe in that matter as well. In case anyone wants to know.
Honestly I kept waiting to see this whole alpha thing playing out. In a way I get that each book probably builds towards the “rising” of the alpha but I feel there weren’t even breadcrumbs taste of this badass power that could hook me as a reader to root for this FMC. Just being so tight lipped about this till the end chapter like what exactly have you given to built upon this interest? What I got instead is a mess of a cliffhanger that shows rushed sequential things that made me go huh that sucks and it’s completely unsatisfactory. As for the vampires evil guys plot line, I don’t have any feeling since it’s quite.. impersonal still unlike Bailey’s old pack problems.
Bailey was an opportunity missed since she had a back story that could provide everything to draw a reader but the past is given in tidbits and her whole I’m unique thing gets no depth to see it explored. I’m not sure about this one.
GIVE ME MORE. I am already so in love with Bailey and Derrick.
This book reminds me of Moon Touched by Elizabeth Briggs that I also adored, so maybe it was obvious that I’d end up loving this book, who knows. All I know is I need the next book ASAP because I need to know what happens next!!!
Were is book 2?! This book made me so happy to be back at the wolves. All the pack drama is just delicious. But please If I read 'his little wolf' one more time I'm going to vomit 😂 4stars because I loved it, it was an easy story but I couldn't stop reading.

Wow! Just take my heart and I'll be yours! Because of this book "shifters" is now one of my favorite in the fantasyworld! An incredible book that had me hooked from just a few chapters in! The run, the protectivness, trying to get along - to find out the secrets, the fierce and brave maincaracter! And just a hint of romance that you just know.. Something is about to happend...! During the reading I tried to imagine this book as a movie. I dont think any actors would like to be naked as much as they are in this book. But I would totally watch it ! 🙏
Just give me the second book so I can devour that too!! 😍
I was generously provided an ARC in return for an honest review of Chained. I know you see this statement all the time but I just had to restate it :). Now let's dive into Kacey Lee's new novel Chained!
WARNING: Although the content below may be great and addictive, it does end in a CLIFFHANGER. I am putting this up for your protection because I was blindsided. I signed up for Chained on a very compacted day, lots of stress hazing my mind. So in my chaos I saw this author (a.k.a. Kacey Lee) looking for ARC readers, I'm sure she put up a disclaimer about it being part of a series. But I didn't read the fine print. Started the book, fell in love, reach the ending, and BOOM! "Book two releases 2022, for more information please subscribe to my newsletter." Can anybody cue the tears? So be warned, you will fall in love and there will be a hiatus. Be prepared.
*LOL, did anyone else's mind pop to Scar from The Lion King*
Book Review
Our main characters is Bailey, "the anomaly, the female Alpha." God, I swear this line hooked me from the very beginning. Any books with a strong, badass female MC automatically go on my TBR list <3. I loved her! She was so relatable to me as a young woman (I use that term loosly). To be strong in all spaces is difficult and exhausting. It brought pieces of reality to a fantasy world to see Bailey struggle in accepting her vulnerablity and shed her exterior walls. Beautiful, to see her mature in the cacoon of a safe, encouraging environment. Her adventure begins with a vamp and instict. I mean, you can’t ignore cubs wailing for help! We follow her on her journey with the Yellowstone pack. As she experiences the pack life on the other side of the forrest. Women have standing, old laws are rejected, and blood doesn't mean pack.
The adventure of Derrick and Bailey is far from over but satisfying. In a world that wasn't so progressive, Bailey found the one wolf who was. I adored Derrick. Imagine Lukov from 'From Lukov with Love' mixed together with Garrett from 'Den of Vipers'. A caring, silent dangerous protector. #Swoon. The two begin as enemies because, well, he kidnapped her. Just a little bit. But she trespassed on pack land and smelled like a rival pack, so. . . I don't exactly disagree with him for taking her as a captive but it certainly wasn't completely a-okay. Their love story was so enthralling. A lover in between them, traumatic pasts, dominance issues, ultimatums. This love was juicy with events and troublesome situations!
I don't want to spoil the story so I'm attempting to be vague. I won't tell you about the antagonist because I would Have. To. Go. In. This jackass deserves a fate worse than death! But because I respect you and Kacey, I'll stop now.
The writing was great, flowed well. However, the first chapter was a little slow for me. If you get into the book and feel the same, just push on to when Bailey enters the woods and you're home free.
Thank you Kacey for allowing me to read Chained, I can't wait for book two!!!
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked this story. Bailey is a really strong character and Derrick is a really good guy. He has some realistic characteristics about him like doesn't always make the best choices, but he does make up for those things.
but Wow! this book was really a wonderful read! The cliffhanger ending made me really mad though. To be honest, I don't know how authors even end a series without it being a cliffhanger because there is another book that follows so I feel like I should have prepared myself for this, but I was still thrown off.
I do find some things were predictable but it wasn't bothersome. I do plan to buy the paperback when it releases because that cover is stunning!
The chemistry between the characters was there, but the plot felt forgotten throughout the book, and we didn't get any good thought processes from either the FMC or MMC. I ended up skipping some chapters.
What an ending! Book 2 can’t come soon enough! I devoured this book in one sitting! Bailey is a phenomenal FMC! She is definitely a survivor and I can’t wait to see what she does next. I enjoyed the relationship building between Derrick and Bailey. It seemed to move fast but didn’t seem to be falsely rushed. Such a great story. Wonderfully written! Definitely recommend this one!
Não amei, era pra ser uma leitura bobinha de Wolf mas passei mais raiva do que tive clichês fofinhos E ainda terminou num cliff hanger que eu não esperava mesmo 🙃
Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Okay, I signed up for this arc thinking werewolf fantasy story.i got that and some spice.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/🔥🔥🔥 ▪️Bailey is a lone wolf on the run from something or someone from her past. She encroached on another werewolf packs territory and is taken in by Alpha Derrick who wants answers. ▪️at first it's all slow burn and then you get that waterfall scene..OH MY. 🥵 ▪️ Great character development not only for the main characters but the secondary characters as well ▪️the pacing for this story was quick but not so much that you were missing details ▪️World building: kudos for how well done it was in book 1 without bogging down the story. ▪️ we got some love triangles and scorned lovers. Great chemistry where needed and wanted ▪️we have some.reasoning behind Victor's actions but I feel like were missing something here. ▪️speaking of things unsaid, can we talk about the reveal of Bailey's big secret? Didn't see that coming but once it was revealed...things kind of made more sense re her behavior ▪️Holy cliffhanger! I nearly threw my kindle as I realize how long I will be forced to wait for book 2..I need answers and need them NOW. ▪️trigger warning: domestic abuse ▪️ would definitely recommend ▪️for those interested in fantasy, werewolves paranormal romance, urban fantasy, love triangles, romance, vampires, enemies to lovers, scorned lovers,
I received an ARC copy of this book and this review may have potential spoilers, solid 4 star read.
Wow! While there were some predictable and repetitious things, this book was really a wonderful read! The cliffhanger ending has me big mad though. How am I supposed to have the patience to wait for the next book when I NEED to know what happens RIGHT NOW?? *shakes fist angrily* The dynamic between to two main characters is sizzling, they both have nice character growth and come to terms with past situations they went through. There is really awesome female empowerment without having it feel like it's forced or awkward, just for the sake of having it. Definitely can't wait (even though I have to...) for the sequel!
Okay first off ... Oh my gosh! This book is just wow! And also how am i meant to wait?! That cliffhanger was... argh! I can not wait for book 2!
I found this book had a great plot, excellent characters! I loved Bailey! I love that she was not a push over like many are in these kind of books! It was interesting and nothing like i have read before! I really can not wait to read book 2!
The romance side of it was kind of slow burn in my eyes but also wasnt slow burn if that makes sense! So it took a while but also it really didnt compared to majority of books!
100% recommend this book!
Beware though.. there is a huge cliffhanger at the end .... !!
The whole book just had some beautiful word choices, the first chapter had me because of this and hooked me. Very catchy phrases that I adored and don't even get me on the funny comments Bailey makes. The story was beutifully written and I enjoyed reading it.
Chapter 5 was definitely my ultimate favorite chapter just because Bailey and her whiteness is Queen. That ending though, I feel like I should have seen it coming but still. I didn't want to believe it. I'm so happy this book breaks from usual Wolf norms and threw something else in the mix because I mean who doesn't love a badass female character.
Bailey was strong and witty from the start but the way she grew with allowing herself to get close to a pack after everything that's happened made my heart blead for her. Derrick was all Alpha from the start by putting his pack first, their needs and wants always came first and by doing this put him in an awful situation. The way he grew was by putting himself first for once and giving something a chance that he knew could possibly cause uneasiness in his pack. It was a good story, there was also some sexy scenes especially towards the end we got a glimpse at a Smut scene so I'm excited to see what happens next.
I can't wait to follow along Bailey's story to see what happens next. The story has great potential with the Supernatural conflict, Bailey being Bailey, the relationship that will definitely develop between Bailey and Derrick and I cannot wait to see what happens to Travis, Victor and Rebecca. Honestly her whole pack is on my black list and either Bailey rises to the top or take the garbage out. Either or would work for me.

Set in the modern day in the US, we're riding with Bailey and Derek, two wolves who have to hide their true natures as part of a hidden species alongside humans. Quick overview: Derek is the new alpha of a forest-based pack, marrying to stabilise the pack, and Bailey is a wolf on the run from her past. Sparks fly when they meet.
I went into this thinking wolves, shifters, packs, alphas, betas, omegas, okay. This has the alphas yes but the betas are lieutenants. The pack structure and how they worked was super interesting to me, I love worldbuilding and this hooked me in, sprinkling the detail throughout the action. The action is very well written, keeps a tight pace.
The chemistry between the MCs is great and I was rooting for them! Possible spoiler about their delicious chemistry -
Who will love this: Anyone who wants to see a different take on shifters / wolves especially, this was pretty special. Those who root for the strong female MC who shows true strength and resilience, not just "is written strong." Those who like their guys supportive and challenging in a growth way without being cheesy.
Who might need to take a second look: if you're looking for omegaverse, reverse harem, harem, coercion, bullying, what I would call negative or red flag relationship stuff - this ain't it. Steam is just right for me at a 4 out of 5 heat description level but 5/5 on the emotions and feelings behind the act itself.
My special thanks to the authors for the eArc of this book, I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
Y to the A to the S and omg it was so good. Everything it just felt so natural, although I'm not happy with the ending but as long as she is fine I'm not going to be mad lol.
Legit don't know what to say now. I freaking loved the banter and how both of them saw each other as equals rather then him trying to make her submit to him, I really liked that. And that, there was mutual trust. And the spice y'all, it wasn't that much honestly but considering the whole plot if there was more of it, it would be just off.
Other than that cannot wait to read the next book.
Seriously, how can a book be this good? I'm amazed by the characters - how their thoughts, emotions and just about everything is laid bare for us readers to be part of. It's incredible well-written. The plot is great and stuff keeps happening in a way that makes sense. Ah, and that ending! What a cliffhanger! My heart can barely take it.
Shifters living in the woods, pack business, relationships, spice and bad guys - what's not to like?
While it wasn’t terrible or anything, I just didn’t like the MFC. She was mean, rude, and kind of a jerk. She was totally in the wrong for hating the Alpha and too arrogant to see it. The Alpha had a stupid reason for keeping her prisoner and I just couldn’t take it. Everyone was running all over him and it was annoying.
"I was smirking, and I couldn't stop it. My wolf was insanely smug at solid proof that Bailey obviously gave a shit about me".
4/5 ⭐
tw // Domestic violence is mentioned, off screen and not in detail. It is condemned and not glorified/excused
cw // Descriptive Sex Scenes
This is a romance book, more precisely a paranormal romance between two wolf-shifters (I'm sorry, I don't know if that's what they are called or if they are werewolves) and from rival packs. Escaping from her last pack, Bailey finds two cubs crying for help, in danger, and even though she wants to stay hidden to survive, she cannot ignore them and so she helps them. But that get's her caught by the Alpha of a rival pack and now she has to stay with his pack until she answers all their questions. The Alpha who caught her is like all the others--all raging temper and muscles. And yet…his pack is different than hers. But no matter how much her wolf cries ‘mate’, she needs to break free. It’s time she accepts the truth: she doesn't belong anywhere. Her wolf will never settle for anything less than she is, and no other wolf will accept what she is: different, an anomaly… A female Alpha.
This is my first time reading this kind of books (shifter romance) but I really liked it. It has two things I really like: fantasy and romance so, what is there not to like? The book is a romance but there's more to the plot than just that. Whilst it is true that a big part of the plot is all about the romance (duh) there are also some important things going on and makes everything more interesting. The story is interesting and I'm very intrigued as to what is going on and what will happen next. And I cannot stress that last part enough because, damn, that cliffhanger!!! How are we to recover from that? I can't wait for the second book and see what happens.
As I said, it's my first time reading this genre and I didn't know how the whole wolf thing was going to be described, but I liked it. It was interesting reading the wolves' personalities, what drives them and how the person interacts with the wolf. It was very cool seeing how they are kind of like entities separated from the human but are also one and the same.
Regarding the style, the story was well written. It made it very easy to read and it gave the necessary amount of information. The author didn't go on and on about less meaningful things that can make you lose interest in the story. Not once happened that I got tired of reading some description and wanted to skip it. The descriptions are precise but don't fall short.
About the characters, I'd like if I didn't say I would enjoy it if the characters had more depth, if they were more complicated, especially the supporting characters, like Rebecca and her father. I also kind of felt like the interactions with Rebecca were a bit misogynistic. Maybe it's just me, but there's something about calling her "Barbie", like being pretty and caring about your appearance was bad, that rubs me the wrong way.
Besides that, it was beautiful seeing the relationship between Bailey and Derrick build, seeing how they respect each other's boundaries (especially Derrick respecting hers), and understanding one another.
So, to sum things up, this is a very good read you should definitely give it a try, especially if you fancy romance but want to add something different too. I wanted to thank the authors and Hiddenhollow booktours for giving me a copy of this book!
Bailey is on the run in the human world away from her old pack. Humiliated beyond reason, she will keep running and keeping her secret safe, along with those she loves and left behind. While contemplating leaving the new area where she works and lives, she comes across two cubs from a rival pack in danger; she shifts and kills the threat…a vampire…in the middle of the day? Merrick, who just became alpha of her rival pack, sees her, and he captures her after a fight. When they get back to the compound, she is imprisoned. Merrick is engaged to the old alpha’s daughter. He cannot seem to stay away from Bailey; the same for her with him. His fiancée feels the threat from Bailey and takes every chance to attack her. He encases her neck in a collar that is filled with magic; it will not enable her to leave pack lands. Everything in Merrick and Bailey says MINE but they are not acting upon this. When the old alpha stirs unrest, a vamp attack occurs, and they decide to track the vamps that have stolen Merrick’s mother, they are in for a vast surprise…one that does not end well~ This book ends in a cliffhanger~ The story of Merrick and Bailey had me entranced from the beginning. The trauma she suffers will endear the character even more to you…for the obstacles, she overcomes and keeps fighting…the way Merrick cares for his pack and her shows he is a good shifter meant to lead…there are a couple of secondary characters that will also make you root for them as well…so, what will they discover and how will Bailey and Merrick save her from her current predicament? I saw this book offered in a contest, and the author generously awarded me and a few others with an ARC copy…I am so excited and happy that she did…this is truly a great story that sucks you in…on my way to purchase the other books in the series~
The plot is very interesting, I think this is the first time I read a story where there's a female alpha. This story is pretty well written and well paced with great characters and an interesting world building.
I really like Bailey, who is a female alpha on the run from her own pack. I understand her struggle trying to hide who she really is and survive in a pack who doesn't treat her right. It's no wonder she didn't trust others easily which is why she was wary when she first enter Derrick's pack.
There's Derrick, the leader of the nice pack. He's a good alpha and always put the need of his pack before his own. Although, to be honest I didn't like it when he has to use his Alpha power to everyone else most of the time trying to show control. On the other side I understand his struggle, being a new alpha he still needs to learn how to assert dominance and make a united pack.
Derrick's pack is a healthy and strong pack which is nothing like Bailey's old pack. The male didn't abuse their power to others and that people has the same rights and freedom to do anything they want. They also take care of each other. I really love how Bailey find friendship with Lyra and it turns stronger as the story progress!
I have to warn you all with the big cliffhanger at the end! I can't believe I have to wait for the next book to find out what happen next!! Bailey is not the same scared female who run away so I'm curious to find out what will Bailey do ?!
Overall, this is an enjoyable and entertaining read. The ending tells the readers that Bailey's story is just about to begin and promises a lot more interesting things to come! If you're looking to read a light reading with paranormal aspect and enemies to lovers trope, you might want to check this one out!
A huge thank you to the author, Kacey Lee for giving me this digital copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion, also thank you to Hidden Hollow Book Tour for allowing me to be a part of the book tour!
What an intense and thrilling story! I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through, biting my nails with anticipation, and holding my breath hoping that Bailey was going to get the happy ever after she deserves. I caught myself turning the pages quickly to see how it all ends, but then that ending – DAMN- it literally came out and punched me in the face leaving me staggering with shock!
Bailey is an outstanding shifter woman. She’s fierce, strong and someone who never gives in or gives up. She is also extremely feisty and knows how to stand up for herself. When she “runs” into Derrick, the intensity of their first meet is rife with emotional turmoil but there is something else there waiting in the wings, ready to explode at any given moment. Derrick and Bailey’s interactions are filled with witty banter, explosive power plays and sexual innuendos that had my toes curling. These two were going to explode into a million pieces if something doesn’t happen soon! I am waiting on bated breath for the rest of their story!
Really well written shifter story that will keep you your toes and have you guessing at what Bailey would do at the end. The characters are phenomenal and will either have you loving them or wanting to destroy them, and the world building is filled with wonderful imagery transporting us readers to a world filled with shifters and vampires.
2/15- Ch7 - calling it now, the “Barbie” aka the MC current soon to be wifey, is going to be caught in a plot to kill MC or something of the sort right at the end of the book. This will free up MC and FC to get together nicely. Authors LOVE to do this, especially when they make the current girlfriend extremely unlikable like this one is. First meeting with the FMC there’s unnecessary bitchyness towards each other. That just tells me this author is lazy and learned from the wrong type of authors.
2/15 - Ch 12. Ok DNf: I’m bored and tired of these stupid stupid tropes. Starting out, I really don’t see how our FC is a “alpha”. Is it because she stared the MC in the eye? Nothing about her screams of the sort. In fact, she has the personality of your typical lazy writer stereotype of a protagonist. Angry for no reason, can fight only when it suits where they are in the story. Hates the MC for no reason. And is running from terrible people who mistreated her. This is literally the plot of 100000 of other books containing werewolf’s. Which is fine, but I need something to hold my interest and everything about this is boring. I just don’t care to finish. I see the plot by chapter 2, by chapter 6 I knew what the ending would be. I just rather spend my time reading something I enjoy. Sorry not sorry!
