She came in search of the family she’d always wanted—and found the kind of love she’d never dared to imagine.

When Katelyn Loveland’s car veered off a winding Appalachian Mountain road, she thought she was done for. That is until Cooper Robinson, local sheriff’s deputy, came to her rescue. And though Katie narrowly escaped her brush with death, she still fell. Hard.

She wasn’t the only one. But soon Cooper learns that the woman he’s more attracted to than any he’s ever met is his brother’s new girlfriend—and therefore unquestionably off limits. Yet, despite his best efforts, Cooper and Katie can’t seem to avoid running into each other. Or ignore the undeniable chemistry between them.

As they grow closer, Katie shares the secrets of her past and the real reason she moved to their small North Carolina town. She also wins over Cooper’s welcoming and bighearted family. But they don’t know that her feelings for Cooper keep growing—all while she’s dating his brother. Soon the stakes of their emotional connection become higher than either of them could have imagined. Katie stands to lose the first family she’s ever had, and a scandal could doom Cooper’s campaign for sheriff’s office. Suddenly they find themselves on the edge of another precipice—and they’re forced to make a decision that could change their lives forever.

Riverbend Gap by Denise Hunter is a 2021 Thomas Nelson publication.

Katelyn is on her way to meet her boyfriend, Gavin's parents for the first time. But she winds up teetering off the edge of a cliff after swerving off the road.

A Sheriff’s deputy, named Cooper comes to her rescue, talking her through some intense moments while they wait for help to arrive. Cooper feels an instant connection with Kate but is taken completely by surprise when he discovers she’s his brother’s new girlfriend!

Kate has moved to Riverbend Gap for more personal reasons that she lets on and has many emotional issues to work through. Gavin is also trying to put his life back together after a tragic loss, which keeps Kate from acknowledging her burgeoning feelings for Cooper.

Cooper is something of a ladies’ man, but right now, though, he’s got an election campaign to run while shooting down a multitude of stumbling blocks that could derail his run for Sheriff. The last thing he needs is to create more scandal by getting involved with Kate…. If only his heart agreed with his head.

This is, to my knowledge, the first book I have read by this author. I took the plunge with this one because it was the first book in a new series, and I wouldn’t have to play catch-up. While this is an emotional story, it is also a wonderful book about the strength of family, friendship and true love.

Like Kate, I think I could come to love the Robinson family as much as she did. The story has some nice thought-provoking scenarios addressing different ways people react to rumors and possible scandals. The story also tackles the pain and ruin that comes from drug addiction, and the toll it takes on everyone involved. There is a love triangle- and that can be a tricky sell sometimes- but I thought the author did a great with it.

As you may have gathered there is a lot going on in this story, and sometimes it gets a little messy. I love messy! I love seeing how people rise to the occasion, face their fears and own up to their shortcomings. I loved the message of healing and forgiveness, and the warm-hearted way the story concludes.

Overall, I’m glad I finally got around to giving this author a try. I hope I can fit some of her older titles into my reading list and am definitely on board for the next book in this series.

This Hallmark movie worthy for sure. I loved the family dynamics. Katie was the best and of my the sheriff was swoon worthy. This is a must read and I can't not wait for the next Riverbend romance.

With shadows of While You Were Sleeping, this romance is filled with tension and people trying to do the right thing and finding grace when they can't. It's about finding a home and restoration. And the romance is plagued with angst and sweet resolution.

This is a contemporary Christian romance that I found quick and easy to read. It starts out in an edge of seat beginning when Katelyn Loveland swerves to miss a deer on a mountain road only to wind up close to the edge of a cliff. Deputy Cooper Robinson is riding his motorcycle and sees the skid marks and follows to where Kate is hanging precariously in her car. He is able to get help for her but the two spend some tense time together and are drawn to each other. Unfortunately what they did not realize is that they are connected by Cooper's brother Gavin. Kate is dating Gavin and a college friend and coworker with their sister. What a mess ensues as the two fight their attraction. Gavin is recovering from two losses and is coming out of depression, thanks to his relationship with Kate. This is an emotional story that is much deeper than this short description as Kate has no family to speak of and is drawn to the Robinson family. She and her brother grew up in foster care and she moved to the town to try to connect with her biological mother. Riverbend Gap is a small town with a quick and nosy grapevine that spreads gossip, sometimes mean and false, making things worse. The main characters are likable and the setting is nice, right on the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina. This is a great read for those who enjoy romance with tension and a thread of faith.

Characters: Cooper and Katie were both well-developed characters with believable backstories.

Language: There might've been one or two not-so-reverent uses of God's name. For more sensitive readers, there was some use of slang.

Moral: This one was lighter on the Christian themes, but both characters were believers.

Plot: This plot held my attention. I wasn't a fan of the whole love triangle, but I do like how the author showed the consequences of the characters' choices.

Romance: Clean. Just kissing. Katie and Cooper did spend the night together (nothing happened) in a hiking shelter with some other people. I'm pretty tired of scenes that exist solely to put the characters in awkward situations that have the potential to turn bad, but this wasn't a major part of the book.

Writing: This is the first book I've read by Denise Hunter, and I enjoyed her writing style. It was unique (in a good way) and stood out from most contemporary romances I've read.

Overall: Riverbend Gap was an entertaining read, and I'd recommend it to those who enjoy Christian fiction and contemporary romance.

A complex, slow burn, contemporary romance - drama that will test the limits of family, loyalty, friendship and forgiveness.
Get ready to have some heartstrings pulled!

This is a hard review for me to write because I really did enjoy many aspects of this story. I was engaged from the very first scene, which really made me like both main characters and want them to be together and I really liked the ending scene when things are finally resolved between Kate and Cooper. I also enjoyed their banter. I loved Cooper’s family and I am looking forward to reading both Gavin and Avery’s stories.

What I struggled with is the love triangle. Admittedly, I am not a fan of love triangles, but when it involves family, in this case two brothers, I just feel like it is a betrayal in so many ways and the longer it went on the harder it was for me to keep reading and feel comfortable. While both characters felt what they were doing was wrong, they kept doing it. There was a point in the story where I felt it would’ve been better for Kate and Cooper to not be together. I also felt like things wrapped up a little too quickly and too neatly.

I usually really enjoy Ms. Hunter’s books, this one just missed the mark for me. I am sure others will enjoy this story though.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

RIVERBEND GAP is the first book in the Riverbend series by Denise Hunter. It is all about family and faith and totally heart tugging. It had me flipping through the pages like a woman on a mission. I had to know what was going to happen to Kate and Cooper and all the secondary characters. All of Denise’s characters feel genuine and relatable and put your emotions on one heck of a roller coaster ride. As you are reading, you will find yourself cheering for all of them, praying they can work out their problems and be happy once again. You will also wonder how much heartache a person can stand before they completely break down and shatter.

RIVERBEND GAP is filled with family drama, forgiveness, mystery and romance. It is also an emotional rich story, so much so that it just might be the best novel that I have read by Denise Hunter so far. Kate is on the way to meet her boyfriend’s parents for the first time. She ends up hanging off the edge of a cliff after swerving off the road to avoid a deer. When Kate meets her biological mother, reliving the past, and the secrets that they both hold, made it hard to put down. Also, the fact that the setting is in North Carolina which is an added bonus for me.

RIVERBEND GAP starts off with a very tense situation that will have the reader holding their breath and if they are wearing pearls, they will be clutching them! Totally intense and scary! Kate and Cooper, meeting for the very first time under such a tense event, creates such an emotional bond. Cooper talks with Kate until help arrives, trying to keep her calm. But in the process, he feels something is special about Kate, almost an instant connection. This story is guaranteed to give you all the feels, trust me on that! Hang on people, RIVERBEND GAP is an intense and crazy ride.

RIVERBEND GAP is a quick read that you can easily read in one sitting and love every minute of it. It is one heck of a crazy emotional roller coaster ride. I have never met a Denise Hunter book that I didn’t love and once I started reading I knew I was going on one heck of an emotional journey! Whatever you are reading, put it down, and run and get this book! If you’ve never read a Denise Hunter novel (and you know who you are) this would be a perfect one to hook you!

Wonderful and exciting book.
I have been a long time reader of Denise Hunter's books.
This book kept me entertained and I really enjoyed it.
You can feel the real emotions of the characters coming through.
It's realistic women's fiction that definitely belongs on your keeper shelf.
It's warm and has a feel good vibe. You'll root for the hometown hero who finds himself involved in a bit of a scandal not of his own doing.
There are some family dynamics that'll make you wonder how things are going to turn out.
I really couldn't put this down and highly recommend it to you.

I have been a Denise Hunter fan for many years and never miss one of her books. This was no exception. Written well with a wonderfully crafted story, she brings us the first in a new series set in the small town of Riverbend Gap. I enjoyed every minute. Looking forward to seeing more in the series.

I am really struggling with rating this book. Let me explain! This is 2.5 for the story, 3 for the drama and entertainment, 🤣.

Riverbend Gap is set in the Appalachian Trail area, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading about. This book is a quick, addictive read. I grew up in East Tennessee and many talked about the Appalachian Mountains and area growing up so this was a nice change of scenery to read about that was close to my old hometown.

The story begins with Katelyn (Katie/Kate) Loveland on her way to Riverbend Gap when a deer causes her to run off the road. Cooper Robinson, the local deputy sheriff, is driving by when he finds Katie off the road. He helps her get to safety, but during that time waiting for help to arrive, they have some discussions getting to know each other and they seem to have a connection between them that both can't stop thinking about. However, the one thing they don't know is Katie is his brother Gavin's new girlfriend.

Katie grew up in foster care and has recently moved to Riverbend Gap in North Carolina to start a new job with her best friend, Avery. What everyone doesn't realize is she is keeping a secret about her birth mother in Riverbend Gap and she is trying to resolve issues from her childhood there to get answers.

Cooper is the local deputy sheriff and we also follow his journey as he runs for county sheriff and many rumors circulating around town.

Honestly, I was a bit put off with this book. It was really hard for me to read a book about a girl dating a guy and stringing him along while she starts to like his brother.

Plus, given the traumatic things Gavin went through, it didn't make me root for Cooper and Katie. I had this blah feeling the whole time.

I understand this book was being realistic to what happens many times in real life with crazy relationship issues sometimes, but I didn’t love that this story went on for so long about the secret interest in each other, almost tore a family apart and seems to encourage cheating.

I think the book is an addictive read and I was interested to continue to finish this book, but I honestly don’t see myself continuing with the series.

I struggled with the details of the love triangle. They both know it’s wrong but keep doing things to encourage each other and allowed themselves to be alone together in situations they should have been grown up enough to handle. We did have some faith content and could see they were Christian but not much other than that and a few other mentions.

I was like 😱😱😱 many times and it certainly was entertaining to say the least.

I really wanted to love this but it overall wasn’t for me. I will still read more of Denise Hunter, but not this series.

It's the start of a new series by author Denise Hunter! That's something to be happy about!

The first meet between Cooper and Katelyn is a doozy and enough to spark all kinds of emotional connections. Hanging off the side of a mountain in a car will do that to you. Even though Cooper is all in emotionally, he knows he can't pursue Katelyn. It's the slowest burn romance ever because nothing is happening physically or verbally for most of the book. The attraction and growing feelings of love are all internal.

Katelyn has a lot going on in her personal life. Her brother's death, a move to a new town, a new job, her search for her birth mother, a brush with death. That's a lot, right? Katelyn has such a strong desire to be a part of a family and to belong. To be wanted. It really pulled at my heartstrings.

I loved the setting of this book, the history surrounding it and how the community is such a big part of it all. It ALMOST makes me want to hike the Appalachian Trail. But not quite. haha. I'm not a hiker.

I'm looking forward to the next book!

Content: peril, kissing.

Katelyn Loveland is heading to meet her boyfriend's family for the first time when she veers off the road and finds herself dangling off a cliff. When local sheriff, Cooper Robinson comes to her rescue, a bond quickly forms between them. Imagine her surprise when she discovers that Cooper is her boyfriend's brother. Katelyn grows to love the family and the last thing she wants is to hurt anyone's feelings. Yet, Katelyn and Cooper can't seem to avoid one another, growing closer with each encounter.
Katelyn had another reason for moving to the small North Carolina town She is hoping to reconcile some wounds of the past, allowing her to find a path forward.
As things heat up between Katelyn and Cooper, can they temper the attraction between them, or are they destined to be together?
Another sweet Christian Roman from Denise Hunter, can't wait to read the next installment in the series.

What an awesome start to series! I loved this book and was draw in from the very beginning! Chapter 1 starts with a bang and then there are unexpected twists and turns that follow throughout the storyline. I adored the characters. The Robinson family is a family that you want to call your own. I can't wait to read (actually listen to) the next book in the series. In fact, I downloaded it to my phone before I finished this book. I highly recommend this one!

I'm not one to read the back cover of books so when I asked to read this on NetGalley, it was with no preconceived notions. Then a friend shared the premise and I hesitantly began to read the book.
What I Liked
Riverbend Gap deals with a sin that's not often talked about, at least not from the sinners' perspective. Usually you read about the victim and how they overcome the wrong done to them. I liked the twist. I liked the emphasis on grace and forgiveness. Far too often, I think people preach forgiveness without living it out.
I also liked that this is a series because series are often some of my favorite sets. I'm intrigued to find out the rest of the siblings' stories and how Ms. Hunter will tell them.
What I Didn't Like
There were times I felt the heroine could have prevented so much from happening if she just spoke up. Yet, if she had, would we have learned the lessons in the book? It's a conundrum that made me think so bonus points to the author.
Overall, I'll be moving on to book 2 once it's released.

**MINOR SPOILERS**

After reading several books outside of my normal genres (women's fiction and romance), I was excited to get back into them with this book. I normally really like Denise Hunter, but I couldn't get into this one because of the type of romance--a woman cheating on her boyfriend with his brother.

If these two characters had been single and fighting their feelings, that would have been one thing, but they lied to everyone around them about their attraction and continued to allow themselves to enter into situations where they would be alone together. It just felt icky reading about characters purposefully deceiving their family and friends.

The writing is everything you expect from Denise Hunter, but you do have to really enjoy it you have to be okay with two people cheating. If you're not okay with that, it will probably be uncomfortable to read.

Rated PG.

A new series from Denise Hunter with a new family and set of siblings.

I really liked the setting of the small town of Riverbend and the connection to the Appalachian Trail and its history.

Katie and Cooper meet under extraordinary circumstances when her car veers off the road and ends on hanging on the cliffside. He happens to drive by and helps rescue her. The time they have talking and sharing in this situation makes for a strong bond between them that's hard to deny.
When they find out she's actually his brother's new girlfriend, they try to stay in the friend zone despite the mounting attraction.

I'm excited for the rest of the series.

I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Oh..my stars! Swoony doesn't begin to describe Riverbend Gap! All the stars to Denise Hunter on this one!

Riverbend Gap centers around a love triangle and honestly it's a storyline I usually shy away from. But it's Denise Hunter, and if anyone can make me like this type of storyline Denise can. Not only did she make me like it, I loved it!

Denise weaves quite the believable tale starting with Kate Loveland skidding off the road and literally hanging off a cliff while on the way to a dinner with her boyfriend Gavin's family. Cue the cute Deputy Sheriff Cooper, who just happens to be riding by, to the rescue. All manner of high voltage chemistry between Kate and Cooper ensues. They are constantly being thrown into each other's company and the connection they feel, although they try to deny it, only grows stronger each time they're together.
Most readers would say given this scenario they should just stay within the boundaries of family first and hands off, but Denise's masterful storytelling convinced me this type of attraction could happen leaving Kate, Cooper, Gavin, and the entire Robinson family to deal with the fallout and aftermath.

Riverbend Gap is a fantastic love story, but it's so much more than that. It's the story of a young woman's search for identity and worth after feeling rejected all her life. Kate also deals with the loss of the person she was closest to and all the grief associated with that. I felt all the emotions of her loss and her journey to love and acceptance.

I love a good quote and my favorite in Riverbend Gap is, "If anyone understands the need for grace it's someone who's been on the receiving end of it more times than she can count." That's one of the inspirational lessons of this story, extend grace to others just as we've had grace extended to us.

Riverbend Gap is funny, endearing and will twist a reader's emotions every which way before you breathe that sigh of relief that all will be well for the characters you've come to love. I enjoyed this book so much I've already added the second book in the Riverbend series, Mulberry Hollow to my must read list for next year.

Take a bow Denise Hunter, you've written one swoony heartwarming story! I appreciate Thomas Nelson, through NetGalley, making a copy of Riverbend Gap available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.

I own the ebook copy of this novel, yet I began by listening to this book on Hoopla in order to get ready for book two, which is coming out soon. About halfway through the audio book, it stopped working correctly, so I switched to the ebook. From what I did listen to, I enjoyed the narration of the audio book and it kept me intrigued.

I had put off reading this one as I am not usually a fan of love triangles, yet there are a handful of love triangle stories that I have read and loved, so sometimes they end up being a very good storyline.

I ended up liking this book, yet the middle section of the story caused me a good deal of anxiety and I ended up reading it in small amounts. I felt bad for everyone involved and was relieved when Cooper and Kate's feelings were revealed.

I think the author did a good job of presenting the reasons that Kate and Cooper both tried to overlook and not act on their feelings. Gavin's recent divorce and painful loss made decisions harder for these two and they ended up not handling things well. However, I think things were wrapped up nicely and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Katelyn Loveland's car veered off on a winding Appalachian Mountain road, and she believed she was done, but that was before Cooper Robinson, a local sheriff deputy came to her rescue. There is an immediate connection between the two, but they soon find out that Katelyn's new boyfriend, Gavin is Cooper's brother, and her new boss, Avery his sister. Small world!

I connected with all the characters and even though I did think there was some going overboard in terms of emotions, it was still very realistic in their reactions because when have humans ever acted appropriately all the time? Katelyn had baggage of her own on top of her feelings towards Cooper, and I felt it was done well as she sought to cover up what she couldn't quite express, even though her actions did cause some angst between the Robinsons brothers. I thought her character to be very sweet. 4.5 stars. I'm looking forwards to Avery's story in the next installment.

This is a nice, easy romance read! Katie and Cooper are in uncharted territory as they realize that Katie is dating Cooper's brother. This aspect for me was a little difficult to wrap my head around. I enjoyed how much Cooper's family rallied around each of the family members and was there for them.

Deputy Sheriff Cooper Robinson comes across an accident. A car is preening on the brink of falling off of a cliff. The problem is there is still a passenger inside. After nearly hitting a deer, Katie Loveland's car swerves out of control and perches on a tree hanging over a cliff. Cooper talks with Katie until help can come, trying to keep her calm. But in the process, he feels something is special about Katie, an instant connection. They are able to share and communicate easily. The problem comes when Cooper tries to return Katie's phone, he finds out that Katie is his brother Gavin's girlfriend.

I loved this story in all kinds of way. It was sweet how Cooper and Katie tried to refuse their feelings for one another. Yet they are constantly being thrown together. Neither one of them wants to hurt Gavin, yet they are magnetically drawn. And in the small town of Riverbend Gap the rumor mill is alive and well.

Riverbend Gap is a clean Christian romance by Denise Hunter. Ms. Hunter is such a skilled story teller, being able to bring her characters to life. She can convey their feelings and deep emotions. You really start pulling for the Katie and Cooper. I loved the dialog between them, all the way to the end. I am looking forward to reading the next book, whether it is Gavin's or sister Avery's story. Riverbend Gap is an exciting place to visit.

Denise Hunter has long been one of my favorite authors, and I always look forward to her new book releases. Unfortunately, I didn't realize going into this one that it's largely about cheating, and that is not my cup of tea, and this ended up not being at all what I was either expecting or hoping for.

As with every one of this author's books, I did appreciate the vivid storytelling, and the setting that truly comes to life on the page. Hiking is not something that's too big in my area of the world, so I loved learning about the culture of it, and hearing the stories about the many communities that depend upon the travelers coming to their trails for their livelihood. I also loved the emphasis on family being so much more than just blood relations, and the way that faith is intermixed throughout a large portion of the story.

However, I just couldn't get behind the romance at all, and I'm sad to see this kind of scenario playing such a prominent role in a Christian fiction title. The part that bothered me the most is that Kate and Cooper seemed to only have a problem with their actions because of Cooper being Gavin's brother. The reader was left feeling like if Kate hadn't been dating Gavin's brother, then the cheating wouldn't have been an issue. Not what I was expecting or wanting from a contemporary romance, and definitely disappointing.

Final Rating: 3/5.

Thanks so much to Thomas Nelson for allowing me to advance read and review this!

You've read books that end on a cliffhanger. Well this one literally starts on a cliffhanger. Katelyn is on her way to visit Gavin and his family and skids off the road and her car is hanging on the edge. One wrong move could send her over.. Cooper Robinson comes her and keeps her calm while waiting for more help to arrive. He is immediately attracted to her. Later he finds out that this girl is his brother's new girlfriend. The more he is around her the more attracted he is to her. There is a chemistry between those two that is not in her relationship with Gavin. He finds himself falling in love with her but he feels in his heart that he can never have her since she is in a relationship with Gavin.

I enjoyed this story as I have all of Denise Hunter's books. I'm looking forward to reading the story of Cooper's other siblings.

I received a complimentary e-copy of this book. All opinions are completely my own.

"How could one little kiss cause so many problems?"

It didn't start out that way. . . .but it did start . . . with a harrowing cliffside car accident and a knight-in-shining-armor deputy who literally talked Katelyn Loveland off the edge of disaster. . . . . only to find out that Cooper Robinson was her boyfriend's brother. Talk about coincidence.

"Why couldn't he have met her first?"

Cooper would never even consider hurting his brother Gavin, so dousing his fire of attraction to Katie was the first order of business, except that she kept showing up on his radar. Circumstances kept throwing them together, she was so easy to talk to, and his family absolutely adored her. Of course they did. But eventually things came to a head, and boy did they ever!

A sweet love triangle of a story, by definition somewhat predictable, but written by an accomplished author who knows how to begin a story and definitely how to end one!

Riverbend Gap is the first book in a new series by Denise Hunter. This book is set in the Appalachian mountains in a town that is on the Appalachian Trail. Katelyn Loveland misses a deer on the road, but her car is hanging over a cliff. Deputy Cooper Robinson happens upon her and rescues her. There is an immediate attraction for both of them. But it happens to turn out that Katie is Cooper's brother's new girlfriend. This book made me think of the movie Dan in Real Life. Which was super cute. I'm not one for love triangles as a general rule, but Hunter weaves this story into a really enjoyable read with a sweet ending. I look forward to the next two stories featuring Avery and then Gavin.
*I was given a copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Publishers and this is my honest opinion.

The thing I love about Denise Hunter, is that I can always count on her to deliver a stirring but clean romance that holds my attention at every turn of the page. Her latest novel, Riverbend Gap, is a testament to her skillful storytelling ability. I adored the complexity of the characters, the situations they struggled through, and the message of healing and forgiveness. Hunter wove all these elements with expert care, creating a story that came alive before me. As this is only the first book in Hunter’s newest series, I know I will fall more in love with her characters as each book releases.

This book is a guaranteed win! I strongly recommend each and every one of Hunter’s books.

I received this book from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
