WINNER of Writer’s Digest 2021 Self Published Award! On December 6, 1984, twelve year old Lisa Fierer is called out of class to the principal’s office and told that her mother has been killed and her father arrested for the crime. Over the next twenty years, Lisa battles through school, addiction, relationships and various forms of self-destruction. Along the way she learns that loss, violence and betrayal create a deep desire for something she calls the new ‘f-word’: forgiveness. Thirst is about the distance between the lives we are given and the lives we choose. It’s a story about survival, hope, yoga, self-discovery and the tremendous support of compassionate communities. It touches the part of each of us that longs for the healing power of laughter, the transformative force of forgiveness and the bravery required to learn to love again.
Thirst: A Memoir by Lisa Fierer is like Tiffany Jenkins (High Achiever) meets the gorgeous story telling art of Kristin Hannah. Fierer gives readers a breathtaking page-turner that begins in family secrets until twelve-year-old Lisa is called to the principal’s office and told that her mother has been killed ...and it's her father who is arrested for the crime. Thirst offers a riveting journey, each chapter ending more shocking and compelling than the last. This unputdownable memoir travels the distance between the life we are given and the life we ultimately choose.
This book is written from the soul. Cover to cover, you can feel this is a book written with purpose, compassion, and love.
Lisa has taken a heart-wrenching and broken childhood and taught her readers that you CAN recover. Her life is an inspiring lesson, and Lisa presents her wisdom with remarkable authenticity. "thirst" is raw, engaging, soulful, and a touching portrait of a person who didn't let her darkness win. It is a wonderful reminder of what it means to be human, and of the intricate lives we are all leading.
This book illuminated many gaps and misconceptions I hold about domestic violence and finding safety. In times where domestic violence is sadly on the rise in the US, I would highly encourage you to read this book, learn more, and see how you can support those in your community.
This book is incredibly raw, vulnerable, and inspiring! Lisa is a true warrior and the sharing of her story is truly an honor to read. Get ready to be blown away. I couldn’t put this book down and finished it all in one sitting. I can recommend it enough!!!
WOW, Lisa is amazing! She has survived and written about her past in a way that makes you want to become a better, more understanding, and forgiving person. I highly recommend this book. I'm in awe that she could open up and tell her store.
So heartbreaking and vulnerable, I had no idea what this was about when I started reading it so I was completely shocked after reading that first chapter. Not at all what I imagined but in a good way!
I enjoyed this book although enjoyed doesn't seem like the appropriate word when discussing someone's life tragedies. Glad to know as a society we have made slides to help victims of domestic abuse but we have so much more that can be done.
Excellent read! Lisa is an amazing woman! Incredible strength to find her way out of that darkness. Those wounds are deep. Well done to be so vulnerable and tell her story to help others.
Incredible memoir. I am in awe of your journey. Your book has helped me release more and more and place my focus on the good. Thank you for writing such an incredible book that I couldn’t put down. You are a warrior.
Wow! I met Lisa at a yoga retreat in Montana though we both live in CO. I knew a little of her story before I started the book. Listening to it on Audible was a bonus because of the music & chanting that is included in small bites. I also grew up in a home with a controlling and manipulative father who often made us cringe in fear when we were young. The wild coincidence was he was extremely angry & would lash out at my brother as Lisa’s Dad did with her brother. This story is deep, dark & so enlightening despite significant spousal abuse, murder. It had to have been so therapeutic for the author to write it. Truth is stranger than fiction. Lisa is a marvelous yoga teacher. I’m so glad she found her calling. This is an incredible read. I will definitely recommend it to friend’s.
