Denji's a poor young man who'll do anything for money, even hunting down devils with his pet devil-dog Pochita. He's a simple man with simple dreams, drowning under a mountain of debt. But his sad life gets turned upside down one day when he's betrayed by someone he trusts. Now with the power of a devil inside him, Denji's become a whole new man—Chainsaw Man!
It’s Chainsaw vs. Sword as the bloody battle for Denji’s heart heats up. Denji is going to have to pull out all the stops against this crafty opponent. And when the dust settles, how will Special Division 4 move on from their losses?
This volume continues the pattern of ending one story and starting another so it can end on a dramatic cliffhanger that messes with your emotions and of wow did it ever. The protagonist is still cluelessly sweet and creepy and ultra violent, the society is incredibly messed up, and the devil hunting organization and the hunters just get weirder. For all of the insane violence and comedy, there is a strong streak of tragedy in this series. Gives me a bad feeling about where things are going but the ride looks amazing!

I'll teach you! The things you don't know and the things you can't do. I'll teach you all of them.
Tiếp tục giữa màn giao chiến giữa Đội săn quỷ 4 và bọn Katana man.
Who knew a Rom-Com volume would be one of the best for this action packed weird as shit series.
The first part deals with Aki getting his revenge. Denji of course gives us some laughs as well as Power. The fight is great and Denji is for sure getting stronger. Then we move on to Denji's first real date with Makima and it's super adorable even if I don't fully trust her. But what happen when he meets Reze? A girl that Denji begins to fall for as well.
A nice laid back arc with some good action, funny moments, and a twist I didn't see coming. Chainsaw Man is just a damn good time.
A bit of a let down after volume 4. Chainsaw Man finishes his battle with... Samurai Man (?). The rest of the book is basically about Denji going on dates and discovering women. He really likes boobs and falls in love easily.
(1) *sighs* a pretty girl suddenly shows interest in you? You know it is very likely a trap, right? Right?
(2) bloody battles are ensured when revenge is considered!
(3) more fight scenes yeah! All bloody and over the top!
(4) I can't wait for the next chapter!
(5) But...there is nothing wrong about killing zombies! You don't try to make Denji feel bad....and of course, he won't! XD
(6) Makima and Denji's dating!!!! Yeah! Sugoi!!!
(7) I really do like how Denji isn't the typical heart of gold dogooder you can find in other shonen manga, I even like he would get horny after some girls...XD
(8) I also like the interaction between Aki and the Angel Devil!
(9) I have to say that, Denji and Reze's interaction is very cute~
It took me a little while to warm up to the series again, trying to recall why everyone was fighting in the first pages and I'd finally settled down with the character stuff in the middle, but then a new female character was introduced to entice the protagonist, and I am just so tired of watching him get led around by boobies.
But I do have four more volumes out from the library right now, so on with the binge . . .
So far the craziness in the series hasn't settled down at all, in fact, it just seems to go up in every volume.
This particular volume has some very rom-com like moments in it, and the readers feel a sense of warmth but it is executed in such a way that the readers also get the sense of uneasiness and a feeling of an impending disaster. The artwork is also great, as usual, especially during the fight scenes.
The only problem some readers (including me) do/can find with the manga is that Denji, the main character, is significantly less interesting than the supporting ones like Aki, or Power.
Denji and his crew are here to settle the score with the katana devil and his cohorts for killing their teammates. In the midst of blood and carnage, hints of love bloom. Within this love seems to grow an ever greater chaos that will swallow everyone whole. With a peculiar new outlook on life, Denji allows the strings of fate to pull him along for the bumpy ride.
Chainsaw Man is getting much better. The tone and themes of the story are more serious. Denji actually had some badass moments here, showing off his new combat strategies, avenging his fallen comrades and sticking up for his grieving friends all while advancing his understanding of human relationships. I love how Denji and Aki shared a brotherly moment by making a game out of kicking a dude’s balls for killing their mutual friend in one of the previous volumes. Only this series could make something like that feel so ordinary and wholesome.
I really liked the subtle psychological horror stuff with Makima and her uncomfortable relationship with Denji. She’s very off-putting in ways that are hard to explain. It doesn’t help that she seems to like grooming underage boys into doing her dirty work. Not sure if she would technically be classified as a villain, but she definitely fits the bill.
Reze, another new unpredictable love interest enters the fray. Her interactions with Denji really hit home on the points I’ve been making about him since the beginning of the story. He might be a dopey annoying idiot, but his lack of education, terrible social skills and the fact that he’s being emotionally blackmailed and taken advantage of by everyone he has a semblance of affection for makes me feel bad for the guy.
Yuh, not much a fan of Lady Reze. But damn I love that Chainsaw Man vs. Katana Man. Augh. That's awesome! Flaunt Kishibe like a mf! Yea!
AND PLEASE BRING BACK HIMENO AUGH I HATE THIS FEELING. I CAN'T ACCEPT HER DEATH. I CAN'T BEAR TO SEE HER ONLY IN MEMORIES AND FLASHBACKS COME ON THAT'S A REAL SLAP. COME ON NOW, DO THE TRICK. WHATEVER TRICK IT IS.
Denji and Reze’s budding relationship is winning me over SO easily. Someone who speaks up about how shitty his situation is, and genuinely likes him for him? I’m sold. (If he runs back to Makima I’m ending it all).
Notable mentions: BEAM IS SO CUTE!! He looks up to Denji so much, it’s impossible not to love that golden retriever attitude. Also, Angel Devil and Aki’s reluctant-ally dynamic is so great!
Update: I started the next volume and the level of clownery I’m experiencing is insane because
I am trying hard to not binge on this, but I am not being too successful at that. I read most of volume 5 and volume 6 in one go so it is getting a big muddled what is what. Also, subplot length is variable in number of original issues, and subplots do not fit too neatly in each collected volume. But another kind of random hyperviolent subplot, not a lot of big reveals yet, Denji has another romantic interest, and I am getting more and more invested in Aki...
