Limoncello is a yellow drink, traditional of the Italian Amalfi Coast. It is a cordial fragrant drink, sweet to the right point, spirited but not too much, extracted from lemons, that brings people together and makes them happy. Limoncello has a dual function, it can be served with appetizers as an aperitif or a spritz, and it can be served as a digestive after-dinner drink. That's the reason Limoncello is a popular drink among party goers. In this booklet, I give suggestions on how to turn all the lemons without the skin, used to make Limoncello, into different products for your daily beauty and for your daily house cleaning. The people who have tried my suggestions and my Limoncello are happy people.
I am Italian born, my native city is Bari, a beautiful place in the South-East region of Puglia, on the Adriatic Sea. I began my design career as a fashion designer and worked in my own Atelier Valentina. Growing up in Italy, often I wondered what I could have possibly found beyond that horizon I was admiring every day. The saying goes: “Be careful what you wish for, it might happen.”
Well, it did happen. One day, as an opportunity was presented to me, I left my fashion work, my family, and friends to make a giant leap over the ocean. I landed in the United States where I started a new life and a new design business all over again, without knowing a soul. It was very hard, and it didn’t come easy. At times, I even doubted myself to have done the right move, however, I am the type of person that when sets the mind on something gets it done, with no excuses, and thus I went on pursuing my goals.
One of my clients suggested turning to design homes and to leave the fashion to the Italians. In the States, the majority of people don’t spend much money on fashion, but they invest in their homes and properties. She told me that and was right.
I went back to college, I was fortunate my Italian studies were fully approved, I only had to attend a few years to get certified in interior designing. That’s what I have been doing since then, which amounts to 30 years of design work between Italy and the USA. A few years ago, I also became a TV producer and added this fun activity to my design career. I am the host of my shows and produce them under my label: Valentina Design Universe.
In 2008 the country was under a heavy economic recession, it was the right moment to write that book I have always wanted to write. Up to that moment, I was writing articles for local magazines and papers, I needed to think of writing my first book. I did it and wrote five additional books after that and I opened up my three blog columns.
Naked Lemons is a wonderful short read by Valentina Cirasola. The book shares her personal experiences from using them in food to preparing cleaning products and facial masks. Who knew this colorful fruit could provide so many options? Immersing lemon peels in oil, using them in pasta dishes, as an alternative to chemicals. Wow!
As a brief background, the author is a designer and creative artist who has worked all around the world. In this book, she provides a few recipes for delicious meals and most importantly, her own concoction for limoncello, a tasty Italian drink. I've had several versions, both in a local restaurant that makes their own here in NYC and while on the Amalfi Coast a few years ago.
Between the beautiful photos, recipes ideas for design and decoration, and the tips and tricks for taking care of your skin and body, this book is an ideal delight to lend you many ideas for how to make some changes in your life. Courtesy of someone quite wonderful, I now have fresh lemon seeds from her own trees so that I can plant my own. I can't wait to see what comes up!
Naked Lemons. How could I resist this title. The entire book speaks to the authors love of color, whimsy, and style... and lemons. This quick read *bares* many uses for the fruit -- food, drink, as well as beauty and cleaning solutions. Still a sour-puss? Wait until you've tried the limoncello.
