BLACK EDGE Series (5 books!)
Mr. Black bought me at a secret auction on his yacht. I’ve never done anything like this before. What happens when one night isn’t enough?
You must read the other 3 Tell Me books in the series to even slightly understand where this book begins. But by the end of it, we went absolutely nowhere. I'm frustrated that authors are taking what should be one or two books and breaking them up into six in order to get to the ending. Out of the 4 Tell Me books I've read so far, this one has been the worst. I am starting to dislike some of the characters, and even the writing.
Olive loves to read, and it's a wonderful attribute. (Don't we all? Otherwise I wouldn't be writing this review and you wouldn't be reading it.) But Olive drones on about her favorite author, Charlotte Byrd, and plugging other Charlotte Byrd books. Not very tasteful.
The only reason I'm going to read the remaining books is because I don't like not finishing a book. And it feels like in order to finish this "book" I need to spend another $18 in other books to do so.
At this point I wouldn't recommend this entire series to others to start. Because once you start, you need to invest in all six.
I'm 4 books down in this series yet i don't know if i like it that much or not. the characters lie so much to each other that at some point i fell myself telling them to say the truth. The most wierd thing was olive's brother ( who is not her real blood brother but still-_-) is in love with her.
It was meh. The plot seems to drag and then take a left turn. I keep cringing when she brings up his the Olives favorite author is the actual author of the book, then starts to promote another book of hers withing the book. It breaks the immersion of the read, and comes of very tacky.

REVIEW: 3.75 stars—TELL ME TO RUN is the fourth instalment in Charlotte Byrd’s contemporary, adult TELL ME erotic, romantic suspense serialized novel. TELL ME TO RUN is the continuing story of Nicholas Crawford, and Olive Kernes. TELL ME TO RUN should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of instalment number three TELL ME TO STAY.
SOME BACKGROUND: When an unknown benefactor pays off Olive Kernes’ student loans, our heroine doesn’t question but soon discovers that the mystery donor is looking for something more.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Olive and Nicholas) TELL ME TO RUN follows in the aftermath of an attack against Olive’s brother Owen. With Owen in the fight of his life, Nicholas and Olive’s relationship struggles to survive. Secrets are revealed forcing Olive to reconsider her future when our couple is tasked with one final assignment, an assignment that hits too close to home for our story line heroine.
TELL ME TO RUN is a story of secrets and lies; of perceived betrayal; of revelations, family, heartbreak and pain. Charlotte Byrd continues to build upon the mystery surrounding Nicholas Crawford, and his need to pursue the tasks at hand.
A NOTE FROM MY PREVIOUS REVIEW: Reviewing a serialized story is difficult at best; a battle to remember the previous information especially when each instalment is one month apart. I have to recall and reread my earlier reviews in an effort to remind myself about what happened, so far. Here’s hoping the author releases TELL ME as a single story line.
Favorite Quote: The thing about truth is that sometimes it’s the easiest thing to say in the world. And other times, it’s like admitting defeat and burying yourself underneath the rubble that is your life.
Favorite Character: Nicholas Crawford.
Pros: Chapters listed with POV, quick read, several plot twists throughout the book
Cons:POVs don't change much so you might forget when it does, smut (just not for me)
Summary: This is the 4th book in the series. Olive and Nicholas' relationship is getting even more spicy with the twists and steady lies. Olive is back home to help her brother who was just released from jail and while in town, so many things are revealed & occur.
My Review: Just when you think things can't get more steamy or crazy, it does! I can't believe this is the 4th book in the series and I am still being blown away. I love the different POVs even though Nicholas doesn't have as many as Olive does, it just flows together so well. The story just made me curiosity run wild and I couldn't put it down. Already downloaded the next on my KU. I really would love to see this series as a limited series on NetFlix.
This is the fourth book in Nicholas and Olive's story and You must start at book one and read in order to obtain the full story so far and not be confused. I am really loving this series. Secrets, lies, drama, epic bombshells, tension, emotional turmoil, danger, mystery, suspense, angst and steam fill this nail biting, edge of your seat romance that will have you completely invested and craving the next book. I am posting an independent, impartial review.
What caught me in the first 2 books was the chemistry between the main characters, the lust, the flirting, the love. I didn’t feel it in this book at all. With Owen in the picture, it seemed like it was put on the back burner and it was depressing.
And this author really has a thing for tagging herself in her own story, and trying to commercialize on her other stories. It’s bad taste and unflattering to read.
I will continue to read the next 2 books because I’m a sucker for reading how a story concludes despite it not being great. I just hope it gets better and gets back to the same chemistry the beginning had.
The fourth book in the Tell Me series by Charlotte Byrd, Tell Me to Run continues the story of Nicholas and Olive. This romance story offers suspense, mystery, drama, turmoil, danger, twists and turns, lies, secrets, betrayal, and angst.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This book for some reason didn’t keep my attention. I enjoyed the first three I read. I will take a break and come back to book 5 & 6 once I’ve read other stories. Maybe I just need something to break up my reading.
So we’re deep into this story – in a place that’s full of turmoil. Olive knows that Owen isn’t her real brother and also knows that he’s in love with her. Nicholas knows this as well and he even tries to do a solid by tracking down Olive’s birth mom .
This fourth installment takes us on a less romantic path – one where we know there’s intense animosity all around. Olive feels a need to be there for Owen and Owen hates Nicholas because of things from their past. That doesn’t help matters given that Nicholas’s task from the FBI is to get close to Owen and befriend him. He doesn’t care much for owen but is willing to do it because of his job and because he loves Olive.
Parallel to that, we have the same story of trying to protect Owen from being killed since he’s landed himself in the hospital on death’s door and once he’s out things are still uncertain. People are still after him for snitching while he was in prison, which is what got him out on parole early, and that means that they’re always looking over their shoulder to see who’s coming after them next.
If that weren’t enough, the romance that was is really the romance that isn’t. Olive and Nicholas had something that was so precarious to begin with and now it’s even more fragile. They continue to lie to each other and trust is a huge issue. I don’t know if there’s enough good stuff out there in the cosmos to help these two.
The story line that pulls us through a majority of this book is the one where Nicholas finds himself at a cross roads. He’s being given the chance to get out of the clutches of the FBI by helping his connect there get out of a debt. Art is the guy that’s got a file on him, and Art has also entangled himself into a gambling debt. If Nicholas is able to help him clear that debt by stealing a painting, then he can be free and clear. What Nicholas doesn’t know is that Art knows all about Olive’s past in art theft and that’s kind of why this task is so perfect. He’s got someone lined up who’s experienced and capable, and sadly that leads to another rift.
Side to this story is the one of Olive’s roommate and her romance with James, Nicholas’s best friend. Syndey is in love with James and they’re planning their future together. Everything seems amazing until of course Syd’s mom wants to mean this guy – and what throws them for a loop is that her mom really likes James. Sydney doesn’t know what to do with this turn of events since she’s always at the opposite end of her mother’s favor.
Where we end this story is with everyone going in different directions. Words are said, lies are unveiled and that means that there’s no hope for any happy ending. Nicholas walks away and leaves a bit of Olive’s past for her to uncover and we can only imagine what she’ll do with that information now that she’s on her own. We’re left to wonder how safe Owen will be since he chooses a path that doesn’t protect him, how happy Olive will be because she felt torn between two men, and how happy Nicholas will be since he’s had to choose himself. We also have to wonder if the only happy couple will remain happy
I’m going to review the series as a whole because this was not a completed book. This is one book broken into 6 parts, NOT a series.
The characters where poorly developed. The story was choppy and incomplete. At one point there are two random chapters from a different POV and even that didn’t tell a whole story and there was no reason for it. It didn’t give us the information we were looking for.
What bothered me the most was the author plugging herself and her other novels in this book. There were basically random ads for herself throughout the book. It came across as arrogant and didn’t even further the plot at all. At one point she also goes on a tirade about how bookstores don’t carry independent authors and blasts them for it but then in the next breath blasts people who purchase from Amazon because it’s putting said bookstore out of business.
book 4 in this series, and even more twist and turns, Olive finds out that the people she had called her family all her life arent
after sitting by Owens bedside day and night, Nicolas, Sydney and James take it in turn so she can get some rest. After some truths were told to her by her mother she needed Owen to wake up to see how he reacted. Once he woke from his coma, she could see things were different and not in a good way.
Nicolas is forced to do one last job, being promised that once it was done his slate would be wiped clean, could he trust him? but to do this he needed Olives help, who would only do it if Owen said he would help too.
the only thing Olive can do is break up with Nicolas and Run!
I love the story it's so addictive but the books are really short for the price.
Honestly this whole series so far has me feeling so detached. I struggled through this book and I was honestly so so bored. Everything that happened felt underwhelming and I don’t want to, but it’s not a good book for me. The main couple has zero chemistry for me, even at the climax of the book when it was supposed to put the readers on edge and create suspense and surprise, but I just wanted to get it over with. I think the only thing I genuinely enjoy about this series is how easy the reading process is. The writing is simple and easy to read through to the point where I can read a book a day of this series with little to no issue. But I also really want to be done. I’ve been dreading book 5 and 6 but I feel as though I can’t DNF it because I’m already so far into it. I don’t have any more expectations, I’m just ready for the finish line.
1.5 stars: This book was broken into 6 different parts (unnecessarily), when it should have been one book within itself. That parlays as ‘greed’ to me from an independent author. Unfortunately, I have already read the first 4 books, and will have to painstakingly complete the next two parts simply to NOT have an unfinished series. 🙄😩
* Poor Character development * Never-ending plot additions & twist. * Chapters and POV’s not seamlessly flowing together. * Lacks the chemistry of the first two books, that the two main characters had. * A plethora of typos. * Shameless plug of said author, in her own book from the FMC, as well as plugging additional books by said author. Tacky to say the least.
So the journey continues, Olive finds out her brother Owen is not her real brother and her mother is not her real mother. Owen just got out of the hospital from a gun shot wound the people looking for him put there. Nicholas tells them they need to do another job and disappear then things start falling apart and Olive has papers telling her who her real mother is. She has also discovered Owen who she thought was her brother is in love with her so we must read the next book to find out what will happen?
This is book 4 of a 6 book series and, oh my god, as this series goes on it just keeps getting more and more intense!! Every time I think there will be a resolution to one of the things going on in Olive’s life, 10 more things pile back on!! It makes for a real page turner because I was actually surprised when I got to the end of this book and said, “Wait! What?! That’s the end?!” I freakin love this series!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I first heard about this book on booktube and I really liked the idea but I was aware that with book dealing with this type of subjects it was either going to be a hit or a miss with me and I am excited to say that it was definitely a hit. I started listening to the series on audiobook as a way to pass the time and I quickly grew invested in the story.
In this book we follow Olive as one day an anonymous person drops a package at her apartment with exactly the amount of money she needs in order to pay for her student loans. Olive doesn’t know who sent the money or what they want in return.
The concept of the book is not new, but I liked the execution. The characters are enjoyable and relatable and the plot had a few twists which made it fast paced. In this installment of the series we find out more things about the characters that make the plot much more intricate. I have started to get attached to the characters and I just want them to have a happy ending.
In this sequel we find out more about the characters and their motivations and although it was still kind of short I still have a lot of book in this series so I can wait for more answers. There are so many little things with this book that keep you engaged and once you realize it you are up at 3 am trying to finish this book.
Overall, this is a solid romance novel that is great when you want to get out of a reading slump or just want to read something easy an entertaining. Some parts of the book were a little unbelievable, however that did not affect my enjoyment of the book. If you are interested in the book I would definitely give it a chance.
p.s. I don’t know how I fell about Charlotte Byrd being her main character's favorite writer. I laughed but at the same time I cringed. p.s 2: I don´t think I will continue on with the series, its taking too long for something to actually happen.
So bored! I tried to finish the series, but this book ended it for me. I can’t take it anymore. There’s multiple typos that are pretty obvious- not sure how they were overlooked. And the classlessness of this author continues to drive me nuts! Going on about her OWN books and sneaking in jabs about how Ebook authors are under appreciated. Just a strange vibe overall. Storyline is all over the place- I don’t recommend.
Fourth Book in a series and I think I need to take a break as the story is going into a strange direction with an unexpected adoption story and now we are going way back into the real parents love story and saga. The original couple are on the outs. The adopted siblings may have romantic feelings for each other? It ends without answering anything and you have to keep reading however not sure I want to anymore.
I finished the third book and started the fourth one not long after. A few hours later I came to the end and the cliffhanger was amazing! I loved everything about the book. The anticipation of all the events unfolding one after the other is wonderful and I love it so much
Well I’m already this deep, guess I’m going to go for the next book… this series has turned into more than a dark romance.. it’s all deceit, lies and heists. Also, I HATE Owen…. He’s creepy, and I feel like he plays the victim… This books ending was blah compared to the last ones… I feel like it’s late in the series to be adding new pivotal characters. .
Not a huge fan of the ending of this book, but I do like some of the cliff hangers that it left me. I’m nervous to continue reading because I want the happy ending but a part of me doesn’t think I’m going to get it, at least not in the way I think should happen. So far, this is my least favorite of the books.
