When one says "more of the same" it's typically considered a negative review. In this case I mean it that my usual content warning about this series still majorly applies. If you have problems with even cartoonish bullying, stay away. This series thrives on making people uncomfortable with its subject matter, and even though there is a progressive lessening to the degree of the bullying in each volume it is still very much there.

With that said, God help me I love this series and am delighted to see the continuation of Sempai and Nagatoro's extraordinarily dysfunctional relationship.

Now, while I said "more of the same" I actually need to compliment this volume on a couple of the changes it did manage. While it still remains an episodic comedy series, this volume actually had several chapters that acted as something of a mini-story arc rather than each one being a random encounter between our two leads. This volume also fixes my main issue with the previous volume, where I found Nagatoro's friends annoying. Here their antics are far more amusing and they play a good foil to her character.

So, do I recommend this volume? Let's face it, if you've gotten this far, you know what you're in for. While much lighter hearted than that first volume, you're still in for a mean spirited little comedy... and this volume was, in my humble opinion, one of the more amusing ones in the series. You know what, I'll go so far as to say that overall it is the best volume thus far. While it didn't get quite as many laughs as some of the previous volumes, the quality and story telling is significantly improved and it's finding more of a balance in all of its qualities. A solid 4/5 and recommended to all of you who managed to get a chuckle out of the first three.

Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro, Vol. 4 (My Kindle Review)

Senpai reluctantly goes to a summer festival and has Nagatoro and her crew as company. While making fun of his scrawny physique, she helps him get in shape and uses her teasing as a tool to help him gain confidence. It also looks like she’s getting more protective of the guy has her friends also tease him. pc. 146. B+ (83%/Very Good)

On top of the sadistic teasing relationship between the main couple, I love the dynamic between Nagatoro and her group of girlfriends. They're close, but they are teasing and cruel also, pushing Nagatoro's jealousy buttons carelessly and pointedly in turn.

Another fun volume. This time the two love bugs who pick on each other meet at a festival and start to show their true feelings. Love is in the air. Good stuff and cuteness.

Senpai and Nagatoro are at it again. Between festival time, the new school year, new “friends”, and the dreaded school marathons, it’s non-stop awkward between an overprotective tormentor and an exasperated victim, both of whom remain too shy around one another by half.

I know I say this a lot, but it’s hard to understate the smile this book now puts on my face every time I get a new volume. It’s just the perfect mix of acid and sweet, with a huge dollop of comedy now that the author has really figured out the characters.

Nagatoro reeeeally likes senpai and, god help him, senpai reeeeally likes Nagatoro. For all her merciless teasing, however, Nagatoro completely falls apart whenever things start to turn serious and therein lies the rub (at least during the piggyback section). She’s got plenty of bravado and then no follow through and seeing her frazzled really leavens these stories.

The hilariously overprotective jealousy of Nagatoro is also a big part of the charm. She might not be ready to move things along with senpai, but woe betide any who try and get closer to him than she is. The speed at which she moves to shut down the festival event was very funny.

Even my most hated duo, Nagatoro’s friends, are growing on me. They expand to a trio this time, courtesy of unnamed new gyaru girl, and things get even more ludicrous. The new girl is much more interested in senpai than the other two (although by the end of this volume...) and there’s actually a really nice moment when senpai helps everybody ditch two lunkheads that might be the most purely sweet moment of the series to date.

The rest is the same old blend of antics and make no mistake - this book does great antics. A lot of it is in the execution - the denouement of the fireworks scene is a hilarious character moment for both our leads that shows that senpai knows how to take advantage of the situation, but both of them are so very easily spooked.

Art is decent throughout - the new character is a typical design, but well done, and the maniacal facial expressions make Nagatoro more cartoony than ever. Naturally the author manages to tone this way down during infrequent fan service shots, but they’re way less obtrusive than other books of this type (and make a modicum of sense, even if the stretching section goes from an educational blurb into male gaze mode so very fast).

I still don’t love the art when it goes insanely noodly however - I can tell the author is having fun but it gets a bit much after a while. Nagatoro is going to have an ink sac by the end of this series, given how many flailing tentacles she summons up when she gets really animated.

Not every story is great - minus the hilarious expressions, the box carrying one has a very predictable set-up and payoff, although it also has my favourite omake page of the whole volume. The characters carry themselves with a certain charm I am really coming to enjoy.

3.5 stars - I’m so, so close to rounding this up. This series knows exactly what it is and what it wants to do and it’s found a comfortable groove to just exist in and I really appreciate that. It’s just fun to watch these two fumble about and I quite enjoy how it’s grown since the first volume.

I appreciate this series because I was like Senpai in high school.

A new girl has joined Miss Nagatoro's group of friends. Will she be competition?

I'll probably check out Volume 5 when it comes out,.

This continues to get better as it goes along, and the art is cute. Also, embarrassed Nagatoro is too cute! I also like how Nagatoro at least becomes more playful as the series progresses. Her friends come on a bit strong, but they are becoming more playful as well, and Nagatoro is always there to protect Senpai.

Such a good volume.

So many Senpai & Nagatoro moments alone and bonding. I really missed scenes like these. I really enjoyed this volume.

I absolutely love this series.

That kouhai, omg is she adorable! Yes, she's clingy, demanding, possessive, controlling, & borders on being verbally abusive, but she also cute, I mean she's such a cutie. This sure brings me back to junior high. I wasn't a nerd per se, but I was kind of a loner, except I had this small circle of close friends, I guess we were the outcasts lol. We didn't care. But, my bestie came out of the closet in 7th grade, so all the girls adored him. He & I were constantly together, so much so, that people called us The Skipper & Gilligan, & would question one of us if the other wasn't present. Well anyway, there was this group of about 6 girls. You could say they were gal girls. They were all cute, & all very popular. They would only talk to a few select other girls, & very few boys. However, like I said, they adored my little buddy, & so since I was always with him, those girls assumed I was either gay or bi, & was his boyfriend. I wasn't, I've always been straight, but I didn't care if those girls thought I was gay. Because, they ALL wanted to dance with ME at the school mixers. They would purposely snub popular boys & instead come literally yank me off the bleachers & out to the dance floor. I loved every minute of it. Yeah, sometimes those gal girls teased me, but it didn't bother me. I chose not to let it bother me. Sometimes they would pick on me in the halls in silly little ways, yet by the time junior high school had ended, all 6 of them had put at least one love letter in my locker! Even the boys who played sports were jealous of me. They would ask me in the locker room, why was it that all the cute girls liked me, but not them? What was my secret? I knew, but I wasn't telling! Only differences between me & senpai in this story is I didn't have curly hair or glasses, & while he paints, I drew & wrote songs & stories. By the end of junior high, I had written a love song for all six of those girls. They each had one, in secret, thinking they were the "special" one, not realizing I had written one for all of them. Of course they would never have revealed it to the other gal girls. I wasn't one of the "cool" guys. Ah, that really brings back fond memories. Yeah they razzed me sometimes, but I just played along. There was no harm in that. So you guys who think nobody likes you, well you might just be surprised to find out who exactly admires you in secret, so always be yourself, & be true to yourself. I eagerly look forward to the next volume of this story!

Not deep, but it is fun.

Throwaway stuff, but I do enjoy this. Watching the main female character be protective of senpai is something of a joy.

3.75 Stars. This volume had slightly less jokes and delved more into Nagatoros friend group and their relationship with Senpai. Still a great read as always it just seemed to have less laugh out loud moments. It was quite nice seeing the lead main characters spend more time out of they're element together.

AMOURS EXCENTRIQUES (4)

Positif____
Un rythme de croisière.
Des personnages faillible et parfaitement imparfaits.
Nagatoro, tout simplement.

Négatif____
Trop Court! On en veut +

TLDR: If you're this far, then you probably already enjoy the manga. If you're looking ahead to see if the manga is worth it, then I would argue this one is worth it. I know it can be a lot, but try reading the first 4 volumes and if you still don't like the manga then drop it.

Longer Review: I actually think this is the first volume that I enjoyed. I don't think that it doesn't have some flaws, but it is the first volume that I feel has a balanced approach to its teasing. It still could be seen as bullying, but it is not that bad. One other thing that is really good is that it makes our protagonists look good. You actually begin to like Nagatoro (I think) and can tolerate her. She is annoying, but in the way you would expect from reading about a high school romance. She is not unrealistically annoying or harsh though. I actually really enjoyed this volume which is good because I was debating dropping the series. I would give it an easy 3.5. It could maybe be a 4 but there are a few flaws.
One other really nice thing with this volume is that the stories are beginning to become arcs. This means they span out over several chapters. This makes the stories a lot more enjoyable and fleshed out than when it was a lot of stand alone chapters. I actually enjoyed this one. While I still wouldn't really recommend it to someone, I would continue looking into it and look forward to the next volume.
