The Baytown Boys Mysteries

Military duty called them away to war zones, but after tours overseas, the group of friends found their way back home as men, seeking the peaceful little seaside town. Now, the band of brothers, together once more, work to provide a place for less fortunate veterans to call home.

Mitch Evans left his career as an FBI agent after his father retired as the Baytown Police Chief. Returning home to take up the mantle, he was glad to be back with his family and the Baytown boys. The bonus? Reuniting with his childhood friend and teenage crush.

Victoria Bradford came back to Baytown to run the Sea Glass Inn after her grandmother’s death. A simpler life was what she yearned for. When the new Police Chief showed up on her doorstep, her heart skipped a beat as old memories came rushing back.

When one of Tori’s guests died from poisoning, Mitch was determined to stay objective while solving the murder. Then the evidence pointed to Tori as being the intended victim and another attempt was made on her life.

Mitch, desperate to find the killer before he strikes at Tori again, calls upon the Baytown Boys to assist, as he vows to protect her.

As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.

My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.

My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with.
I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.

I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters.
When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!

I love to hear from readers, so please email me!

This song so fits this book for me https://youtu.be/nZBKFoeDKJo

Mitch Evans grew up in the small seaside community called Baytown. Him and several of his males friends were know as the Baytown boys. He meets Victoria Bradford when at 6 years old when she comes to and stays summers at her Grandmother's hotel the Seaglass Inn(named for the sea glass you can find on the shore). They always liked each other but never took the step to become more than friends but they both always felt more for each other. A lie told to the heroine by her bitch of a sister spoils the chance to see him before he goes off to the army. So they both go off to live there lives but remember the good times they had growing up. Years later the Mitch and Tori are now back in Baytown and ready to put down roots here and discover that they are still interested in each other and enough to finally take the step to make their crush a permanent love. The problem is someone has made Tori a target and wants her dead and now they have to find out who and why before the don't get their shot at HEA.

Now I usually don't do any second chance love stories. Normally they went together then break up under really bad circumstances and sometimes lies and secrets are involved and there is lots of drama with them getting back together. This one was one were they didn't actually go together but were crushing on each other hard and even though a lie was involved it was cleared up really fast and not linger in an attempt to add drama or stretch out for no real reason. They were very upfront with each other about everything including their feelings which was nice. They were a great couple and I enjoyed them finding each other again.

This a romantic suspense but was also a really laid back read too. It seemed like insta love but felt like a slow burn too. It had some great flashback scenes from both H/h that gave a sweetness to their story. It is like a palate cleanser from more intense or emotional reads. It gave you some great characters that you know may get their own story told but I liked that they were incorporated in the story and you got a little of them but they didn't take over the main story but added to it. Many of the male characters as well as at least one female is an ex military and that is also talked about too.

So after a few bad read at the start of the year, this was a great one to find. I am giving it five stars just because of how much I loved the couple.

There was nothing wrong with this book. I just could not really get into it. It was a bit boring for me. But they were both all in from being reunited. They liked each other as kids but did not even kiss - hence I did not mark as a second chance.

I am a big Maryann Jordan fan. I have read and lover every last one of her books. I will be honest though going into Coming Home I was a bit hesitant. You meet Mitch in the Saints series where he is a FBI agents working with the Saints. I could never put a finger on why I did not like him in the Saints series so I was hesitant to read his book.

Lets just say that I love Mitch and figured out why I did not like him initially. Because he was a guest in the Saints series he was not necessarily a fully developed character and all you saw what him being an FBI agent doing his job.

I love how Tori and Mitch have know each other all their lives. Mitch coming home with the intentions of not making to many new changes yet recognizing a need and jumping with both feet is endearing and typical ALPHA male. I think we all have experienced family like Vanessa. A love that can span decades without any acknowledgement is a love that is meant to last forever. I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for the next BAYTOWN BOY book.

I received an Author's Copy in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! every time I read a book by Maryann Jordan I fall in love with the characters.

Here we have Mitch you might remember him from the FBI help to the Saints investigation, as we know Mitch was considering joining the saints but with his father's heart attack they asked him to be police chief and replace his father. All he ever wanted to do was leave now he is back and he actually likes Baytown because it is home. Also, his friends are home and they were the Baytown boys (hint starting a new series). Since being back in town he notices a redhead and brings back memories of Victoria or Tori, the girl who stayed with her grandmother for the summer and who he was in love with since he was 8 years old! (how cute right!). Tori and Mitch have been friends for so long but when a misunderstanding happens this leave them in separation for years. Now back in town it gives them a chance to rekindle their love. Mitch knows what he wants but he is sweet and gives her a chance to catch up to him. Unfortunately, someone is trying to kill Tori and Mitch being the chief and her boyfriend he does everything he can to protect her plus the Baytown boys protect her as well because she is one of them. The mayor and his manager on edge of wanting no bad news to hit the town he wants the case solved. With another attempt on her life, Mitch feels he is closer to solve it then BAM a twist has him bringing in all his friends help to find a killer and find the love of his life.
OOOh! boy, I absolutely loved this story, I am used to these men finding new love but the story of Tori and Mitch was cute how they met and how many years later his kid is the same way. Tori was such a great heroine, not whiny or mean she is strong and independent. Mitch was great, protective and sweet glad he got his own story. These Baytown boys(Men) sound like a great group of guys I can't wait to read their story.

Coming Home is a beautifully poignant second chance love story that had me emotional and teary eyed. It is also a heart stopping edge of your seat small town murder mystery that had me biting my nails.

Each summer as Tori visited with her grandmother in Baytown, she fell in love more and more with hometown golden boy Mitch. Mitch looked forward to her visits each summer from the first time he saw her as a little six year old till the last when she was sixteen.

“I left right after graduation and life took me a lot of places. I never forgot the little red-headed girl from long ago though. And I’m so glad we’re both back to stay.”

Former military and FBI agent Mitch returned to his hometown to take the position of Police Chief after his dad, the previous chief suffered a heart attack.
Tori returned to take over The Sea Glass Inn after the death of her beloved grandmother.

Coming Home is the first book in a new series of standalone romances by Maryann Jordan and I can already tell that it is going to be my new favorite series by this author!

This book is really, really good. It has a good plot, there is a mystery and it is not obvious who did it.
Its like a second chance romance only their romance didn't really get going first time around so when they meet again although they get together quite quickly, its based on a previous friendship.
There are a group of friends with lots of potential for all sorts of story-lines, some which are hinted at and some are yet to be revealed.
As its the first book in a new series, the beginning seemed a little long, setting up the area and some of the history of the group and the circumstances of many returning to Baytown but i think that is needed so we know this history for the rest of the series.
Looking forward to more.

My Review:

Coming Home combined several genres with the small town return of childhood friends from their military service with a murder mystery, family drama, and a warm, sexy, and sweet second chance romance for childhood crushes. The mystery aspect was intriguing yet easy to follow with interesting twists to the plot. No one in my family has served in the military and I knew nothing about the American Legion before reading this story, but I found the scene with the Empty Chair ceremony to be quite moving.

Mitch grew up in Baytown, know as one of the towns golden boys. He always knew that he wanted tro get away for a while. He joined the miltary and when he was done there he went to the FBI, no longer the job started out he deceided it was time to go home. He returned as the police chief just as his father and grandfather before him. Just as he was reconnecting with the love of his life, he must find out who is trying to kill her.
Tori loved spending her summers in Baytown. She loved being at her grandmother's Inn and getting to spend time with the love of her life. When he ran off to join the miltary she figured it was time to start her own life. She left Baytown and got married, which didn't end well. When her grandmother passed she returned to run the Inn. Just as luck would have it the love of her life is there as well. A threat of her life leaves them wondering who is responible, Mitch will at nothing to stop them.

Will they get their happily ever after or does fate have other plans? You must read this amazing book to find out

I'm a huge fan of Maryann Jordan and I have enjoyed all her books, so this came as no surprise that this newest series is AMAZING!
In this series you get to see Mitch from her other series and he is back in his hometown to take over as sheriff. His life is about to change and it's one heck of a ride! He is such a great character and I fell in love with him from her earlier books.
Mitch reconnects with Tori whom he had a crush on his whole childhood. She's still the beautiful redhead he remembers and she's in danger when someone tries to kill her. As sheriff it's his job to find them before they succeed, as her lover and friend it is more than a job, it's saving his future!
Tori is a sweet character and she plays well off of Mitch's Alpha ways. I'm really excited to see where this series grows from here.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, betrayal, sadness, pain, kidnapping, and heartbreak.

This is Victoria (Tori) and Mitch’s story. Tori left Baytown years ago, thinking the boy she had a crush on wanted her sister. Now years later she is back. When Mitch sees, her he knows he wants her forever. He has always thought about her and wondered why she left town with no word. As they become friends again they both realize that feelings are still there. But Tori has had bad luck with men in her pass and is not sure she is ready for more than friends. Mitch is trying to prove he is just what Tori needs but when a murder happens in her inn he knows he must protect her no matter what. But who is after her? Can he solve the case before she is taken from him forever?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book.

There is not much to do in a small town when you are growing up, and most of the boys wanted out of the town, they wanted to see the world.
Mitch Evans is one of the boys that left the town, served in the Military and then became an FBI agent, after his Father the Chief of Police had to retire Mitch came back home to take the mantle that his Family held for ages.
Victoria Bradford is another who returned to Baytown to run the Sea Glass Inn after her grandmother’s death. Its a life she yearned for and when the new Chief of Police shows up her heart skips a beat and old memories return.
When one of Tori’s guests dies from poisoning, Mitch was determined to stay objective while solving the murder. As they grow closer and Mitch's and his team work starts to point that the poisoning was meant for her not for the guests.
Mitch ijs trying really hard to find out who is the killer to save the woman he loves, will he save her or will he loose her again.
Great story great characters.

The story here is really very good, I have to admit. The plot was engaging and absolutely kept me on my toes with the mystery of the whodunnit and truly some really, really great characters! Seriously, I want to emphasize that this really does have very good story-telling.

But.

The writing really got in the way of the story. I mean it is well-edited - really! Not too many grammar or spelling mistakes that I can recall. But man did it get repetitive! I skimmed a lot, especially after the 50% mark. I know it's the first in a series but my god there were just so many side characters that I could not keep track of and it just felt like more kept being introduced even up to the last chapter! It was way overwhelming.

And also by 50% I was getting so sick of hearing about how the Baytown Boys all went into the military after high school and the Baytown Boys, which was just an unofficial title given to a big group of boys who were all friends growing up in Baytown many years ago, but those Baytown Boys were all ages, not just all in one grade, and isn't it great how all the Baytown Boys were back home and did you know Mitch, formerly FBI, was the known as the Golden Boy and that both his father AND his grandfather were Chiefs of Police before him and now he is Chief of Police instead of FBI and the Baytown Boys (that's just what they and everyone else in town calls them, you know - unofficially, of course) were all just such a great big group of friends and it's just so wonderful that the Baytown Boys are all around again and that Mitch is the Chief of Police just like his father AND his grandfather and it's so great he's in Baytown even though it's not as exciting as the FBI and he should know that better than anyone because literally EVERYONE says that to him but hardly anybody can talk about anything else except having the Baytown Boys around and OHMYGODSTOPIT

I did a search. 'Baytown Boys' was used 30 times (!!!) and nearly every time it was either preceded or followed-up by an explanation of what the Baytown Boys were. It was already explained very succinctly in just the synopsis of this book - we don't need to be reminded over and over and over about the Baytown Boys. I can't even make my head-voice say that name in a non-mocking tone anymore because I'm just so damn sick of reading it.

Also, Tori's (the MC) hair was described by Mitch (the other MC) as 'reddish' 9 times. I know that that is such a silly and small thing to nitpick over but I'm just saying, some creativity in the description of her hair color isn't too much to ask for. Reddish. Pfft

And everyone spoke to each other in monologues of their entire life story and all of their feelings. And these characters all talk a lot to a lot of other characters, so sometimes you'd read practically the same monologue multiple times, to different people. Just paragraphs of characters talking at other characters. I have it on good authority that actual talking humans don't do this.

Also...and I almost don't even want to bring it up but...I couldn't find a single care in my entire consciousness about the American Legion part of the storyline. I understand that it's there for future books of the series - and I get that - and I also understand the emphasis that the author, Ms. Jordan, is putting on the importance of this program... but I just don't care. And I certainly don't want to read about the meetings. There's more than a few entire scene of just meetings. Meetings that have nothing to do with the plot of the book's story. Meetings! No one wants to read about meetings.

So. I'm giving this 4 stars, maybe against my better judgment, maybe not - I can't quite tell. I'd honestly rate 3.5 but that's not an option so Coming Home benefits from the rounding-up system. But the characters and story were honestly really good - excellent use of back-story, nice depth to the characters, mostly believable motives (ehh), and very clearly well-research and well-thought out. I won't be continuing in this series, but I'm not displeased to have read this book.

So no, that's not exactly a glowing review but I actually would recommend this book to someone less irritable than myself who enjoys squishy second-chance romances with a taste of suspense in a small coastal town. This book would definitely hit the spot for that kind of person.

A while back Maryann Jordan became my automatic one click Author. I have read and loved every book of hers so when she told us that there was a new series she was writing I was absolutely ecstatic. I kept stalking her FB page to make sure I see how far along she was and maybe get a  sneak peak at the teasers. Maryann like always did not disappoint

This book is about Mitch who we met and fell in love with  from The  Alvarez Security Series. I couldn't freaken wait when she said it was his book that makes the new series.... Mitch was an amazing guy, good Cop and and even better human. So I couldn't wait to see him get his story.

Ladies Mitch is all we thought we loved about him and more. This man is loyal and Fair. He is protective and Kind. I love how he wants fairness and Goodness for everyone. He doesn't see color, wealth or what you give him in return.

His heroine is just as amazing. Tori has  had a hard passed  and rekindling her friendship and the love for Mitch was so beautiful to watch. These two were always destined for each other. I love how they never played the cat and mouse game. They knew what they wanted and went for it.

Now in true Maryann Style she gave Angst, Twist and turns. No way in hell can you ever tell who the vilian is. I promise right till the very end she leaves us guessing. With Tori's past threatening her and it swoony and hot watching Mitch protect and care for his woman.

It was also fantastic to watch as friends and family rallied around them. They where always there to help and support. Beautiful side character's.

As always Mrs Jordan while giving us suspense and angst, she also gives us a beautiful love story with sex scenes that heat you up and make you blush like a bride.

This story as I said was a start of a new series so I'm very excited to see who is next because there are some fantastic characters and  I wanna know their story. Plenty Matches I hope to work out in the end and that they all get their HEA like Tori and Mitch did.

Another 5 ✴✴✴✴✴ read by Maryann Jordan...

The Baytown Boys series is another branch off from the Saints Protection Series. We meet Mitch in those books and this book is centered around his character.

Mitch has gone back home to a job he never thought he would take in a town he couldnt wait to leave. Never in a million years did he think he would be back. Returning to take over the Sheriff’s Department Mitch has left the FBI and entered an entire different playing field. Heading down to the local diner, Mitch thinks the woman he cant take his eyes off of looks familiar but he cant place her. Something is familiar but he just cant pin it – she came falling through the door and immediately fled – he didnt get a good look but it cant be ... can it?

Tori has come back to run her Grandmothers Inn. She loved coming here in the summer and spending her days in the sun. She also met the love of her life here. Seeing him sitting in the diner was a shock and exactly why she bolted. Why is he here and what in the world is she going to do.
Tori gets thrust into a situation she cant control. A threat on her life brings Mitch full force busting up his feelings and he will do everything in his power to keep her safe and find out who is threatening her.

There are numerous secondary characters in this release as we will get more from each. I really enjoyed this read and enjoyed hearing off and on about the Saints men. Things are about to heat up in Baytown ladies! Get your read on!

Thank you Maryann for the ARC. Its always a good read! Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.

Sigh. I'm conflicted when it comes to Mitch's story. I really liked him when he was introduced in the Saints Investigations series. I thought he was charming and especially liked his flirtation with Faith. It definitely lit a fire under Bart's ass. So when he left the Saints, I thought he would get a really good story.

I liked this. It wasn't great, didn't blow me away, but I did like it. I think I had the most issues with Mitch seeming a little different from his other team. I mean he moved from FBI to small town sheriff pretty seamlessly. Even when his own girl was threatened, he didn't call in the Saints. Just didn't fit his personality in my opinion.

However, it was a good start to the series and I really liked getting to know the new characters!

I have always loved Maryann Jordan and own every book in all her series. This is the first book in what may be my favorite series. Mitch is a "golden boy" who comes home after a successful career with the FBI. Tori is a local woman's granddaughter who spent her summers on the Bay. Growing up they are attracted to each other. As adults they reconnect and fall deeply in love. This book has great family relationships, great friendships and a page turning suspenseful plot. I could not put this book down and kept reading to find out who was trying to kill Tori. And I loved how connected the villain was with All the suspects. Definitely recommend

Mitch is the new police chief, having done his duty in the army. Tori is back too, running her grandmother’s inn.

Then it gets rough, with someone out to kill Tori, and Mitch trying to protect her while they rekindle childhood crushes into adult flames.

The Baytown boys are referred to often, really trying to lead the reader into the series. The pacing is off a bit, slow to get to the action of the novel. Jordan’s other series, Alvarez Security Agency, is much better.

Not bad, will give it another chance.

New change

When you head back to home after years gone by...Mitch and Tori had had a crush to each other since they were little and now they are back and ready to see where it takes them, if someone don't take Toris life first.

I like the characters, but something in storytelling bugged me, can't really tell what, ok story to read still

4.5 stars!!! I really liked this one!! Why not 5 stars? There wasn't any huge dramatic event that caused my rating to drop. It was just small things that added up! First I understand that this is the beginning of a new series and a slight connection to another one but there was WAY to many characters introduced in this one. Another thing was that it was very repetitive. There were at least 9 or 10 times it was mentioned that the h met the H when she was six years old and fell in love. Also the constant mention of the Baytown boys. I get it, I know they were known as this but I think I counted almost 30 times this reference was used. If I find myself noticing a phrase or certain word used so much that I start counting them? It takes away from the story for me. Some other small things that just needs a little editing included:
-Getting the two doctors mixed up
-Mixing up the word her when it's supposed to say him
-timeline gets mixed up. In one part it says they were going to the dunes the next day and then later it says a few days later they went to the dunes, then it says last night she mentioned going to the dunes..
-ages get mixed up. The h said at one point her sister was just a year older then later it said when she was thirteen her sister was sixteen.
-it's states a couple different times the inn was built in the 1800's then later says 1900's.

Like I said, these aren't huge things but they distracted me from the story and it was a really good story! I liked all the main characters in the book and the story had a nice little mystery and a steamy romance! I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good book that doesn't have a lot of angst and no push/pulling away from the characters! All of their drama was from outside sources and I love that trope in a great book!!

Let's get one thing out of the way first .... grab this book! If you're a fan of Maryann Jordan's works be rest assured that you will not be disappointed. If you've never read any of Ms Jordan's works then don't hesitate and 1-Click this as you will know why Ms Jordan is so beloved amongst her readers.

Now, I love small town romances. Maybe it's because I'm a born and bred citygirl and small towns have always intrigued me. Ms Jordan laid a solid groundwork for this first book in this series. I was thinking of how do I describe the pace of this book? It started off like as if you were taking a gentle and easy stroll, it might be slow but it wasn't boring because there are many things to see. Then when you least expected it, it shoot off in a run and it'll make your head spin. There was more than enough suspense to keep you turning the page.

One thing that Ms Jordan excel is how she breath life to her characters. I know that going into this book I will love Mitch, that's because I love every H that Ms Jordan wrote in her books. I am picky when it comes to heroines, I hate ... hate the typical "damsel in distress" situation and thank the book Goddess that Victoria is not one of them. I love the connection between these two. Victoria has gumption, she has backbone and she trusts Mitch. I like that the unfortunate misunderstanding that they had when they were in their teens were ironed out early in the book. I not only love Mitch and Victoria, I truly adore the secondary characters as well. Those Baytown boys are sure hot, sexy and Alpha as heck! I see many future possibilities with them and I look forward to reading all of their stories.

Having written all the above, I have to say though that I'm not really liking the way the flashbacks were written. That is the only negative thing I have to say about this book. So go ahead and 1-Click this book and if you're a new reader, welcome to the wonderful world of Maryann Jordan where the men are Alpha panty melting hot and you will always have your HEAs.

** I was lucky to be gifted an author's copy but the review was of my own honest opinion **

Coming Home involves an ex-FBI agent/Army MP, Mitch Evans and innkeeper, Victoria “Tori” Bradford. Summer childhood sweethearts, Mitch and Tori return to Baytown after years apart. Mitch serves as the local chief of police, taking over from his father, and Tori running an beachfront inn, from her grandmother. The couple instantly click back together. Then a guest at the inn is poisoned and the mystery is a foot. Family and friends get involved and many lives intertwine to figure out the culprit and in the end, save Tori.

Mitch and Tori are both solid personable characters. Mitch is the strong alpha male but Tori has spirit. The chemistry between the two is rich with several detailed sex scenes but also just holding and care.

Coming Home starts off strong with details of Mitch starting his new job and reconnecting with the town. However, there are several flashbacks to summer childhood sequences that help develop the characters and friends but seem to slow things down. Jordan seemed to be laying the groundwork for other characters’ books while I really wanted to figure out who was the killer.

Finally, the killer is caught and the happy ever after is set up. No spoilers but Jordan ends the book with a sweet 10 years from now view of Mitch and Tori.

In conclusion, Coming Home was a solid 4 bubble book. A great story and looking forward to seeing the friends fall in love. Personally, I am looking forward to Brogan and Aidan’s book(s).

I'm just going to start out saying....You must add this book to your MUST READ list!

The Baytown Boys all left after graduation going into the military. Some returned just fine, some didn't return and some are living with affects of war. They are working together to form a branch of the American Legion to help others and their community. What a great thing to do.

Mitch has left his job at the FBI and is now returned to his hometown, Baytown as the Police Chief. He's the 3rd generation Police Chief and has some big boots to fill.

Victoria (Tori) visiting her Grandma in Baytown every summer. Mitch and Tori were really good friends in their younger years. Going their separate ways after high school. She returned to Baytown after inheriting her Grandma's Sea Glass Inn.

Both are reconnecting with their childhood friends and each other. Those two have some serious heat! I had to do the hand fan wave a few times.

A guest dies in Tori's Inn and the intrigue builds from there when it's discovered that Tori was the intended target. The Baytown Boys band together to protect one of their own while Mitch is trying to discover who it is before more harm comes to Tori.

This is an awesome book. I was guessing right to the very end.

This is small town at it's finest. There is just something about small towns that draws me more into the book.

I am already a huge fan of Maryann's and this book is a great start to her Baytown Boys Mysteries Series. I can't wait till the next one!

Mitch Evans has been away from Baytown, working as a FBI agent, but when his father has to retire as the Police Chief, he decides to come home to take up the mantle. And he's glad to be back home near his family, the Baytown boys again. Plus, he can reunite with his childhood friend and crush. Victoria Bradford is back to run the Sea Glass Inn after her grandmother's death, as a simpler life is what she wants after her marriage ended badly. But life gets more exciting when her old crush, Mitch, shows up on her porch. They start to spend time together, and feelings quickly follow. But then her ex-husband shows up on her porch, followed by her evil sister. By that night, a guest turns up dead, poisoned, and the evidence shows that it was intended for Tori. Can Mitch figure out who is trying to murder Tori before they strike again? Coming Home was a very sweet story that quickly turned exciting. Tori was a wonderful heroine that I loved from the beginning, while Mitch was a great hero. Together they were awesome together! And the entertaining cast of secondaries made for very humorous moments that kept me laughing. Maryann Jordan's talented writing style had me transported to Baytown, and I didn't want to leave. And her twists kept me dropping f-bombs, with the final twist shocking me silent! I cannot wait for more of this series, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Former military man turned FBI agent, Mitch Evans, has returned to his hometown of Baytown, VA to become the next Chief of Police...a family tradition of sorts...following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. Adjusting back to small town life, including gossip, will take a while...especially when you throw in the major and city manager who seem to care more about catering to the seasonal tourists than the town as a whole. Mitch certainly has his work cut out for him. Then he runs into his childhood friend, and crush, Tori Bradford. Tori used to spend summers in the beach side town with her grandmother and enjoyed the time and friendships forged over the years. She never quite got over Mitch...and his betrayal with her sister. Now she has inherited her grandmother's bed and breakfast and Mitch is back! How will she handle running into him? Mitch doesn't give her much time to ponder...he asks her out and the pair begin dating. All is well until it isn't...one of Tori's guests is poisoned and it appears that she was the intended target. Can Mitch and his small team of officers solve the case before it's too late? Some drama with Tori's ex husband and her sister keep things lively. You will never guess the identity of Tori's would-be-murderer. Great start to the series and I look forward to the story's of the rest of the Baytown crew.

The Baytown Boys are back in town, each doing something to benefit the town. In this first book we center on Mitch although we do meet all the others.

Mitch has his hands full with his new position of Chief of Police. There's much he wants to upgrade, things he wants to change, not too quickly but a process. The best part of coming home for him is Tori. He fell hard for her when he was only eight and those feelings have only grown over the years. He never really expected to find her in town though.

Tori only spent summers in Baytown, but she loved being there with her grandmother. With the passing of her grandmother she is now owner of the Sea Glass Inn. Being here has all the memories of her and Mitch and those summers coming invading her mind.

It's a fun read as we get to know Mitch and Tori's past and watch them once again become a couple.

Now there are a couple of folks I'm not fond of and that's the Mayor and the City Manager, oh and the Mayor's secretary too. Can't wait to see how they develop in future books.

With a threat to Tori but no obvious motive, things escalate quickly.

Fast paced with plenty of suspects, lots of friends and Tori and Mitch burn up the pages just about every time they're together.
