It's very seldom that I am blown away by an author's debut novel, but after beta reading Covered in Coal, I can honestly say that Silla Webb is a true artist with her words and the emotions she depicts through her characters. This story was beautifully written, and I didn't want to put it down for a single second.
Carly Jo Simon is thrown through the wringer when Colton, her boyfriend of three years, ends their relationship without any warning. Carly is left devastated by the unexpected blow, but the icing on the cake comes the next day when she discovers she is pregnant with his child. At seventeen, this would be a lot for any young woman to take on, but when her father, the man she has looked up to her whole life, is less than understanding and refuses to support her in any way, she finds herself running away from home to start over on her own with a baby on the way.
Seven years have passed, giving Carly time to grow and mature into a more independent woman. She returns home to say her goodbyes to her ailing father and make amends, only to find that he has made her CEO of his coal mining company. With that comes the reappearance of the boy she once loved. Now Colton is all man and cocky as ever, but deep down he is dealing with his own inner demons. The closer they become, the more their secrets are revealed, but is the love they share strong enough to hold them together? I'll leave that for you to discover!
I highly recommend this steamy and suspenseful romance novel, and the ending will have you clinging to the edge of your seat!

This was just OK.
I actually picked this up to clear my head from reading about darker topics, but be aware that you will find plenty of drama here. Cheating, coke snorting, abuse, miscarriage... so, if those things are deal breakers for you, don't read it.
At times, the story was hard to follow, and characters seemed a bit juvenile, but I will read the next installment, since this one ended in cliffhanger.

Where to begin with this review?? Silla Webb has left me with my jaw on the floor! This is the raw, emotional, captivating story of Carly Jo Simon's life! From the very first chapter, you are pulled in and know this is a book you won't put down til it's finished! I felt every emotion of Carly Jo, watched as her world crumbled, but she didn't! In times when most would have given up, fell through the cracks & stayed down, Carly picked herself up, stayed strong and moved forward! At the age of 17, Carly Jo's life changed completely.....she went from being a young, carefree and in-love teenager, to alone & pregnant! She turned to the one man that had always been there for her & guided her in the right direction....her Daddy, Big John Simon! Boy...was she wrong this time!! Big John turned his back on his daughter in the time when she needed him the most, only to save his name & reputation! Left with no one to turn to for guidance, she did the only thing she could, she left. She left her little hometown in KY for the one place she always loved as much as home, Myrtle Beach, SC! She decided to make a life for herself & the one person that would love her unconditionally.....her baby!
After being on her own, becoming stronger & more independent that she ever knew possible, Carly Jo is returning to KY for the first time in seven years to say goodbye to her Daddy. He is dying of cancer and she needs to make amends. Even tho he'd said hurtful things & turned his back on her when she needed him most, she had to make peace with her daddy! But the man he has grown into, with his tanned muscles & tattoos, and those lips.....those smooth, delicious lips that turn her skin to flames with every kiss, is the sexiest thing she has ever laid her eyes on!!! It is very rare for me to be rendered speechless, but Covered in Coal did just that. There simply are no words to describe the perfection that is this story. Silla Webb plays on your every emotion, drawing you in with characters that become so personal to you, you feel like you are a part of them and their world.
Covered in Coal introduces us to our heroine Carly Jo Simon, and what a heroine she is. Her strength, determination and independence is humbling and something every woman should aspire for. The story starts off right after Carly’s boyfriend, Colton, breaks up with her leaving her sad, broken, and pregnant – although Colton doesn’t know of the pregnancy. Carly turns to the only man she can think of, her dad. And what does he do, but further shatter her heart. Devastated, Carly runs away to Myrtle Beach.
Seven years later, Carly returns home so that she can say her final goodbyes to her dying father, Big John, who upon his death leaves Carly in charge of his coal mining company, Simon Energy Incorporated. I was given this to read and absolutely was left with my jaw hanging open. Silla captured me with her cast of characters and flow of her story telling. This book was full of suspense, heartache, tension, sorrow, happiness, mystery, lust, love, and an ending that will leave your heart.......well you will just have to read it to see.
Carly is an amazingly strong character and her story is open and raw. It will suck you in and have you feeling all her emotions with her as her relationships with people are tested and pulled and Covered in Coal.
I don't know that a review without spoilers would be possible, but the characters you will either love and cheer for...or cry if the situation calls for it. And then there are characters you fear, loathe, and wish unpleasant things would happen to them due to their slime-ball antics that truly cause disgust and anger to stir.
I HIGHLY recommend this book to any romance, mystery, suspense, or all around angst-filled book.
Warning....Buried Secrets aren't the only things Covered in Coal.
Can not wait till book 2....Silla knocked me on my ass with this amazing read!!

Silla Webb, thank you for helping me out of my book slump and giving us this kick-ass book! Everyone stop right now and go buy Covered in Coal! Yes, I’m serious…go buy it NOW because you will have no regrets! I loved this story and the twist and turns Webb delivers kept me glued to the chair the whole day.
This is not just a rekindled romance story, it’s deep and explosive with many secrets under these character’s skins that I was intrigued during the entire book. I connected to Carly Jo,she is stubborn, strong and determined. She has had her fair share of tragedy but always comes out with her head held high. Carly Jo and Colton have off the chart chemistry but I also enjoyed her instant connection to Luke. Mmm hmm!
Moving on!
The writing is excellent, I felt like I was smack in the middle of Kentucky and the plot was brilliant! Now, we are left with a cliffhanger but its acceptable, even though I am excited where the next installment will take us!

First off, amazing job by the author. The emotions for each character were everywhere. I loved and hated both Carly Jo and Colton. Carlo Jo is this tough, hard headed girl left with no one to turn to in a life changing event. She leaves broken hearted to start over and endures even more tragedy and has no one to comfort her as she deals with so much. Colton is the guy that breaks her heart and leaves her broken hearted and alone with no explanation. He is also going enduring his own suffering. Seven years later, they meet again with so many secrets between them. Colton has grown up and will do anything to have the love of his life back. I feel he's a little too willing and doesn't give enough space between them. Carly Jo is confused, hurt, and untrusting to anyone especially Colton. As they fight to get the love they once had back, problems are arising and causing trouble between the two. It's an awesome story and left me wanting the next book now.

I was privileged enough to receive a BETA copy of Covered In Coal by Silla Webb. I have to tell you, this is one debut novel you do not want to miss.
Carly Jo is a firecracker who isn’t afraid to look fear in the face and tell it to go to hell. Life has thrown obstacle after obstacle in front of her and each time she kicks life in the balls and comes out on top.
After fleeing Kentucky for seven years Carly Jo is forced home to deal with her estranged family, their hidden secrets and none other than the one person who she never expected to see again, Colton Weston.
Colton Weston is all man, from his chiseled body to his alpha male attitude; Colton knows what he wants and will stop at nothing to get it, his current prize, Carly Jo.
Covered In Coal proves that true love can bring you to your highest highs and then leave you completely broken. Let's just say Colton isn't really good at taking no for an answer, "Carly Jo, I ain't gonna upset you anymore. You're had enough to deal with for one day. But you can bet your sweet a**, this conversation is long from bein' over. I'll see you later this week, before you leave." Also he's bossy, "let's move it, baby, I'm starvin', and I know you ordered enough food for a damned army, so let's eat!" Colton says with a sly grin on his face." Also he sort of ignore Carly's rants when she has them, "damn it Colton! I hate the smell of this sh**!" She yells back at me, scrubbin' the soot from her face with a gritty cleanser. Wrappin' my arms around her waist, I pull her to me, pressin' my di** to her a**, and nuzzle her neck." He can be playful which really surprised me, "damn, sweetheart, don't you even tease." I swat her a** firmly, and she winces." And there is one thing you will NEVER have to question in this book and that's he cares for his girl, "ah hell, darlin', I'm so sorry. Why didn't you say somethin'? I didn't hurt you too bad did I? Damn baby, I'd never want to hurt you." Colton pleads, sadness mares his face. Caressing his cheek, "Baby, I'm okay, just sore. Don't worry." That cliffhanger will be earning the author a little scolding and lots of questions from me.

This was an ARC book
I read the title and thought it would be a cute book to read, something different. I fell in love with
Carly jo and Carlton. There story was so touching. I cried in certain parts of the story, couldn't belive what
they all have gone through. I love the country feel of the story,I could see the story in my head as I read it.
Carly jo has gone through so much in her life since she was a kid, but she is such a strong woman. I Hope
there is another book coming out, because it ends in a cliff hanger.

You ever have that one person that no matter what they did to you, you couldn’t help but stay in love with them no matter how hard you fought it?
“But that’s what true love does to ya when you lose it. It shatters you, heart, mind, body and soul, leaving nothing behind but a million tiny shards.”
Carly Jo had high hopes of attending college on a cheerleading scholarship but that all came crashing down after graduation. When her boyfriend of 3 years dumps her and her father basically disowning her when she informed him of two pink lines, Carly Jo takes off and has no intentions of ever returning.
"I'm stepping away from the only life I've ever known, stepping away from daddy, away from Colton, away from home.”
After finding her way a couple states away and working through yet another devastation in her life, she must return home to say good-bye to her dying father. Carly is not prepared for what lies ahead of her, but she takes it and does what she knows best…bucking up! She has so much strength, determination and is extremely independent that she takes on becoming the CEO of her late father’s coal mines and the one person she loves but hates…Colton.
Instead of staying down, when life beat my ass to the ground, I got up, made life my bitch, and fought back! I was determined to be happy. I was determined to be something, someone.
Sensing my fear, he presses his forehead to mine, and softly whispers, “You were made for me, darlin’. Feel how you fit in my arms, by my side? A damn perfect fit. Because you are mine. For always.”
Colton bleeds football and coal. But when he blows his knee out in high school his chances of playing football are over. So he starts working for Carly Jo’s dad in the mines. But when his addiction to pain medications aren’t enough he turns to anything he can get his hands on, including a one night stand while he was dating Carly. Carly’s dad finds out and gives him the ultimatum. Even though he did what her dad wanted; he never stopped loving Carly and hoping that she comes back. Colton straightened himself out and has worked his way up in the mines and became a supervisor.
“Don’t walk away from me, darlin’,” he whispers into my ear. Oh my god, the heat of his breath, the feel of his hardness pressing into my ass. Oh hell, I’m about to come undone. He wraps his arms around my waist, and tosses me over his shoulder. With a swat on my ass, he laughs.
Carly doesn’t seem prepared for the amount of emotions that run through her when she first comes face to face with Colton. Being the stubborn woman that she is, she fights the feelings to no end. And Colton being the hot, alpha male that he is doesn’t give up on her even after she continues to pull him in and then pushes him away. So many secrets threaten their love for each other but when she tries to shut down from him again, he doesn’t take no for an answer.
What happens is an emotional coal cart full of laughter, tears, healing and avoidance. I was never one to like a woman whose mouth is worse than a sailor’s, but after knowing what Carly goes through, she has every right to use that mouth. This story gives you that feeling that true love can bring you such highs, but at the same time teaches you that you must fight for it also. There is also a bonus, we get alternating POV’s! This really helps you understand where Colton is coming from.
The supporting characters bring so much to the plate too. Luke is the guy that made fun of her in school, but is the one she leans on when things become too rocky. And Heidi Jo is just a little spit-fire that will keep you in stitches. Carly’s sister is caring and I think she might be a saint, while Big John, Carly’s dad is a complete arse.
Rekindling lost love can lead to a heart full of answers you can’t remember you asked the question to, but you will find yourself questioning the ending because…yup, you guessed it…she leaves you hanging off that cliff and grumbling to yourself till the next book is released.

When I saw the blurb for this new book I knew I would read it. I have family that lives in coal mining country. They support their families with coal mining dollars. There are lots of folks that think coal mining is harmful to the environment. I'm not arguing with them. Mainly because I like to argue with the lights on and coal mining, however how dirty or harmful to the mountains, keeps those lights on. So when I read that this book was set in Kentucky around the coal mines. I was in.
Carly is the daughter of a the owner of a coal mining company. She has always had it easy. Her dad is the boss. They have lots of money. She has a great boyfriend.....oh....strike that. The boyfriend, Colton broke up with her. And now she is pregnant and seventeen. But that's ok. Her dad will take care of everything.....wait....strike two. Dad tells her she is on her own. Well things went to hell in a handbasket quick didn't they? So Carly leaves KY (the abbreviation for Kentucky not the other KY) to take care of herself.
Instead of staying down, when life beat my ass to the ground, I got up, made life my bitch and fought back.
Seven years later, Carly must come back to her home town to see her dying father. Colton is there too. He never left town just like he never really left her heart. But too much time has passed. Too many hurts. Too many regrets.

I'm not even sure how to write this review. Silla Webb is going to be an amazing author if she keeps this up. I got to Beta read this book and I am so happy and feel very privileged to do so. There were parts in this book that broke my heart and others made me laugh til I cried. This book will leave you shocked and begging for more! Each of the characters are amazing in their own way and you really feel like you know them like they are part of your life and that you are right there living this story out with them. Carly, Colton and Luke are my new favorite love triangle and I can't wait to see how their story finishes. Heidi Jo is a little firecracker that you love instantly! Like all stories there has to be an asshole and believe me when I say that Drew is Mr Mega Asshole! Silla is not only an amazing person but she is also a friend and I am so proud of her for putting herself out there and writing such an amazing story! I hope you all love it as much as I did!

oh. my. goodness. this is such a great read. Colton and Carly were high school sweethearts. He broke up with her before she found out she was pregnant. After her daddy rejecting her too, she leaves with plans never to return. Seven years later, she comes home to watch her Daddy die.
This author grabbed me in from the start and didn't let go, even with that HUGE cliff hanger at the end!
Being a southern girl, I didn't have problems with the dialect. That's how we sound...right y'all?

This book was absolutely Amazing!! I was lucky in getting a chance to read it before release and OMG Webb did an amazing job!! This book had me from the first page!! I will write a real review and post it here later but I just had to say just how wonderful I felt this book was.

I love Carly Jo and Colton. The emotions these characters project make you feel throughout the entire book. I love books that make me feel what the characters are feeling. You will laugh. You will cry. You will get angry. I need to know what happens next sooooo bad!!!!

Silla Webb debut novel Covered in Coal, this going to be a hard review for me to write. First a debut novel hasn’t took me by a surprise in a while. Silla is a great writer. The way she pulls you in and then has you relax and then again BAM your pulled back in. I like her originally to the story the problems Carly Jo and Colton share is realistic and she pulled it off beautifully. Silla had a great skill will descriptions. For example if she talks about the beach, you can picture that beach so clearly.
I personally love emotionally packed novels and this is one, but this is so much more than that. This story tests you to sit back and think what would you do in this situation. I like how Colton was not portrayed as the perfect normal book boyfriend that so many other books have, Colton has flaws yet he is amazing and I guaranteed you will fall in love with him. Covered in Coal does have a cliffhanger but I believe in this story I understand why I can not wait to read the second installment of the Buried Secret Series by Silla Webb.

I have had to give this read 5 stars. It was a breath of fresh air to me to read a well written book with dialogue as a person speaks. Not everyone speaks the perfect Queens English, and I'm a great believer in keeping things real even if it IS FICTION! It has to be believable, and this story was. I can't get past the fact that this is her first novel. I want to read more!!!
I'm off the old school of readers, I'm middle aged and remember when authors used to jump right into dialogue on page one! I also remember that my favourite books were those that had plenty of dialogue, and spoken on the voice of where ever that person came from. So this author really gave me a lot of satisfaction from this book.
The characters were brilliantly played out. If I have just one little critic, that would be some repetitive issues when writing POV. I found it needless on both side. But that is me, that doesn't mean it lacked anything less for me. I absolutely loved it LOVED IT LOVED IT and I hope I get to read book 2.
What did I get from this story?

I got that, allowing others to interfere and control our decisions are not always the right decisions and the adviser is sometimes wrong and will live to regret it, but not half as much as the person whose life it is.

Silla Webb, thank you for helping me out of my book slump and giving us this kick-ass book! Everyone stop right now and go buy Covered in Coal! Yes, I’m serious…go buy it NOW because you will have no regrets! I loved this story and the twist and turns Webb delivers kept me glued to the chair the whole day.
This is not just a rekindled romance story, it’s deep and explosive with many secrets under these character’s skins that I was intrigued during the entire book. I connected to Carly Jo,she is stubborn, strong and determined. She has had her fair share of tragedy but always comes out with her head held high. Carly Jo and Colton have off the chart chemistry but I also enjoyed her instant connection to Luke. Mmm hmm!
Moving on!
The writing is excellent, I felt like I was smack in the middle of Kentucky and the plot was brilliant! Now, we are left with a cliffhanger but its acceptable, even though I am excited where the next installment will take us!

I received an ARC for an honest review. I can not believe that this is Silla Webb's first book. I am absolutely speechless! This book was beautifully written. My heart broke for Carly. That poor girl went through so much. Then Colton ... Oh my word! I have never seen a character love someone so much and was so persistent to re claim her. I truly believe that no matter the tug and pull and all the heartache and stuggles with trust that Carly and Colton are soul mates. But it isn't easy with Luke around! He is also a character that you will fall in love with! Then Heidi Jo is the sweetest! I don't want to say too much with out giving it away but it did end with a cliff hanger that made you say What the Heck!!!! I adore Silla and fell in love with this book. It is a must read for everyone! I am anxiously awaiting book two and my fingers are crossed that it will end the way I see it should but I know that Silla won't disappoint us! Remember Silla Webb's name because she is a up and coming author that is going to take the reading world by storm!

I am speechless regarding all the rave reviews. I guess if you like cheating? If it is alright to ignore your true love who is in the hospital? If it's okay for someone to not admit to cheating because they don't feel they did any thing wrong? And if it's okay to treat your true love bad for six weeks because you cheated? This book is for you.
This heroine was awful. I felt she was selfish. Do I feel sorry for what happened to her yes, but that does not give her the right to stomp all over the one person who loves her more than anything. She knows how he feels, but she is too self centered to realize the damage she is causing to those around her. Her new best friend is a guy and she leads him on. I can't believe she did that. He is suffering for his own emotional tragedy and now you have the heroine playing with his heart too. She is a train wreck.
If you like women that trample on the people that care about her..this is the book. I won't be reading book two, because I know her true love will forgive her and quite frankly....I can't!

HOLY CLIFFHANGER!! (Don't worry you are warned in the opening pages of the book). I was given an ARC copy to review and I will do my best to do it justice without giving away spoilers. Let me just say that you must read this book! The story was compelling, well told, and will leave you with allot of OMG moments! I really liked the character Carly Jo. She is one of the finest examples of a strong heroin that I have seen in quiet awhile. She is faced with many challenging situations throughout the book and rather than taking them lying down she came out swinging. Though Colton was a sweetie and was trying his best to right the wrongs that he made with Carly 7 years ago, I am anxious to see how the storyline with mysteriously broken Luke develops in the next book (wink, wink Silla...lol). **Just to let you know the story is written with Eastern Kentucky dialect. It wasn't a problem for me being a Southern gal but it may be different for some.**

Are you looking for a great new author? Are you looking for a five star rated book? If so, this is definitely the one for you. I was so excited and anxious when I saw the description for this read. Wow! I sure wasn't disappointed. This new author has written an excellent book with both amazing storyline and characters. I immediately found myself attached and couldn't put it down. The characters were so well written that I found myself inside this storyline. I felt every emotion(emotional roller coaster). I am from the region so I was thrilled at the descriptive and inclusion of terminology that reflects the culture and area. I did not feel that this would cause a struggle for a reader not familiar with the region. I would highly recommend. Follow this couple from heart ache to recovery....then let me warn....a cliffhanger. I am so in need of this next story. I honestly felt heartbroken at the end. Great story,,,,, AndreaAH

I hate reading reviews of what happens in a book instead of finding out for myself as I read,so here is my short review. I thought this was going to be a predictable romance novel ( I read several books a week) but I have to say I never knew what was going to happen next, and couldn't wait to see what the author had planned as the ending.
I often read book 1 in a series and have no interest in reading the next release and feel like I wasted my time and money, but I can't wait for this next one in the buried secrets series! The characters and story line were perfect in my opinion and I am so happy I bought this one.

Holy cliffhanger batman! I know some folks curse the dreaded cliffhanger but I absolutely love them!
This book was an awesome debut. I am absolutely gagging for the next! I love the characters and the drama of the story. The story was driven with no lulls or skip-able spots. It had a great balance of drama/angst and happy moments. You are absolutely cheering for Carly and Colton even though they are both highly flawed characters(yes I said both). On the nit picky side, there were a few little typos but nothing huge. Oh, and Heidi Jo is ridiculously cute and I love her name;) I recommend this book and I cannot wait for the sequel.

I am blown away from this book! Wasn't really sure what to expect and boy it just blew me away! Carly Jo and Colton have such a great connection. Raised in the coal mines, Carly is forced back to the life she left behind! She wasn't planning on staying for long but her daddy had other plans. She's now CEO of her father's company and now back with her ex. Colton is just wow! You want them to make it. His undying love her Carly Jo just melts you! This is a great debut for Silla Webb and can't wait to read what happens. Yes its a cliffhanger and even I screamed at my kindle when it ended! But I can not wait to see what happens with these two!
